new the hero need some suggestions plz - Hero CDMA General

hi i just got the hero and switched to sprint from tmobile cuz im waiting for the evo ......... i have already rooted and flashed a rom im fimilar with all that as i have had a g1 a mytouch and nexus .... i just need some help on choosing a fast stable rom with sense im kinda sick of plain vanilla android n i like senese . well thanks in advance also would like to run apps 2 sd if possible thanks

I have hardly tried them all but I would recomend taking a peek at Damage Control 2.08 It's my current daily driver and is working fantastic!
Truth of the matter is pretty much anything based off the latest sprint 2.1 leak is going to be pretty fast and solid. Lots of people doing great work out there. Been tempted to lean more towards an AOSP style of build lately but have been happy with DC.
*Edit: I see that you came from a Nexus one. Do realize this phone is drastically underpowered in comparison to the N1 and that IMHO Live wallpapers should be avoided at all cost. not many things you can do to really make this phone 'as fast' as the N1's 1Ghz snapdragon but it really is a great little phone for as ancient as the CPU technology under the hood is.*

Try aloysius 2.0.7 it rocks

i also run DC 2.08 ROM and it is great.. I run it with sense and LWP. I also use the new A2sd with class 6 card. The hero is running smooth.
i also run some TrevE themes on top of it.
side note.. I would like to know your thoughts on how the Hero with 2.1 runs vs the Nexus.

i mean the hero cant compare to the nexus at al as far as speed bc of the processor ..... but i will say this its def alot more snappy then my g1 or mt3g rite befor i got rid of my nexus i had a mt3g i was using the new cyanmod 5 wich is 2.1 and then wen i got the hero i flashed darchdroid wich is basically cyanmod 5 n its def a lot faster on the hero than it was on the mt3g .... now on another note to the guy that was refering to me selling my nexus to go to the hero to wait on the evo i had to do that bc i spent alot of money on the nexus bc i had to buy it out rite now i only spent 50 on my hero n im saving money on my bill as i was paying 93 a month with tmobile for the unlimted everything plan n now im on sprint its gna be only about 70 a month after my first bill bc of activation n taxes n all that n im gna be getting the evo a cheaper price bc im getting it on contract i cant see it being more than 200 maybe 250 at most ...... bc look at the hd2 its now only 99 on a new contract with tmobile so yaaaa i will be saving money all around ...... n the money i spent on the nexus was money i needeed n i should of never had to do it ....... but now that im done explaining myself wich i didnt need to do im happy to be on the hero forums i was a really active member on the g1 forums n was even a beta tester for a few devs n im really hoping to be able to maybe be some help here ... thanks for the warm welcom every one

Recommendationz???

iight, Friday is gonna be a sad day... I'm sellin' my MyTouch cause i needs some moniez... But obviously i'm not gonna go wit out an Android phone... So, here is the reason for this post... I had a G1 about a year ago but was to chicken sh** to Root it, i have rooted my MyTouch and its pretty smooth and not havin any issues... The question i have, is which out of my fellow xda'erz would you recommend for me??? G1 or Cliq??? i cant afford a nexus or Cliq XT, but i think i want that lovely physical keyboard back... and if you recommend one over the other, was the rooting and flashing ROM's pretty easy???
thanx for your opinions.
i would say if you have a g1 already, use it. i dont personally know, but all the specs for the cliq seem to mirror the g1. roots easy! i recommend the 1 click method. as far as roms, pick one. they all seem to be a dying breed. i have ran cyan, dwang, super d, and some 2.0 breed. i liked dwang a lot, but had some problems with mms. i really didnt have super d long enough to comment on it. as far as the 2.0 breeds, i dont recommend them if you rely on your phone as a phone. the g1 just isnt capable of handling them like the bigger brothers. im back on cyan 4.2.15.1 right now. i still like it, but cyan isnt messing with it too much these days. someone said he's going to release a 4.4 version. i think if he does, it will probably be his last.

G1 without a doubt.
As far as I know the cliq isnt able to be rooted and there is way more development for g1 as well.
Ive also heard many complaints about the cliq's physical keybaord.
Lastly, if it isnt rootable then it isnt good in my book.
And for the record, Super D is a must.
Nothing else can touch it especially since the latest release (yesterday).

Moved on, c ya guys

Hey guys. I've finally bit the bullet and moved on from the Hero. My new phone is the LG Optimus S. The one thing I'll say to you guys is if you have an available upgrade but don't want to pay some bullcrap 4G charge and a few hundred bucks, the Optimus S is the way to go. With the stock ROM, it's already snappier and quicker than the Hero, even overclocked and with CM. My sister has my Hero, and as of tonight we're not really on good terms with each other, so I doubt I'll be able to contribute much to the Hero anymore.
So with that, I bid you all farewell.
P.S: I'll still be on XDA though, don't worry about that!
Off you go

From HEROC to EVO SHIFT
This has been a great experience for me and my HEROC. Thanks to all the DEVS that supported this phone to the end.
I have recently upgraded my HEROC to a EVO SHIFT. Hopefully, I will see some of you over the Evo Shift Forums and we could all start over.
Looking forward to rooting, roming, and to the development of this new phone. I'll check back once in a while to see what kind of progreess the Heroc is getting.
Take care y'all...
I'd consider an Optimus S if there were forums for it on XDA.
Is there CyanogenMod for it? Custom Kernels? etc.......
Awesome! I am awaiting arrival of my Optimus as I type, come on UPS There is already some development as far as rom and OC Kernel happening. First thing I want to try and mod is getting Firerats to work I am happy to see your grabbing of the Optimus S, I seen Deca tweet something about possibly grabbing it too! Join the forum if you havent already, Thunder Rom looks to be fastest!

That'd be awesome if Decad3nce joins the Optimus S boat! Really, I don't even see a need for overclocking the Optimus S (sad to say it). Undervolt would be nice, but not an overclock. Everything already runs so smooth and snappy, it feels like what Android is really supposed to be. I've been running live wallpapers and ADW Launcher, and the scrolling is SMOOTH, no jaggies or anything. If you're looking for a regular 3G Android phone on Sprint, the Optimus S is the way to go.
I'll go register on Android Central so I can start with that I was thinking about seeing if I could compile AOSP 2.3 for it, so I'm going to try my hand at that
EDIT
I think gbhil has the Optimus S too!!

Well I have had my optimus S for a little over 1 hour and this thing is pretty bad ass! I hit 1262 in quadrant, I can play Angry Birds in REAL time, LOL. The phone has a good feel in my hands, like the hero does. I only wish the screen were the same, but I will get over it. The custom rom "Thunder Rom" is fast, I will make some edits of course. Who knows if we can get enough users maybe we can get Cyanogen Mod for it
The only difference is the screen is made of fiberglass instead of actual glass... But believe it or not, I kind of like the fiberglass better. The screen is slicker even without any oil on it, unlike the glass screen.
I'm going to see if I can port my CyanogenSense theme over to it
you gonna try a webos port to that phone too? j/k
enjoy your phone, im sure glad i dumped my hero when i did and got the evo. people are dropping like flies around here. ive never seen soo many people leave a phone in a little over a years time. that goes to say alot.

Yeah, I have a feeling that if Sprint gave better support for the Hero and din't just dump it, people wouldn't have left so fast. Believe it or not, the Optimus is just as snappy and quick as my friend's Galaxy S... It's remarkable when you go from the Hero to another phone, because you can actually see how Android is supposed to run. I don't even need a task killer anymore, since the Optimus doesn't slow down at all.

Should i get the HTC Evo

I am thinking of getting this phone but if heard some bad things about it. ive had non stop issues with phones since the HTC mogul. i had the HTC mogul replaced 9 times due to keyboard failures, then HTC touch they sent me and HATED it, then they sent me HTC touch pro and it was decent but had it replace 23 times due to keyboard issues even after the redesign of them. then i got the palm pre and after the 3rd replacement they gave me a HTC Hero which i love. but i dont like how slow it is tho but the style and sense system i really like..
so is getting the HTC evo a good idea?
so for being so long
Seeing that this is an EVO forum I'd guess most people will say it's a great phone.
Why don't you tell us what you're looking for in a phone. There are a few really nice phones coming out in the upcoming months. Do you have to be on Sprint?
get it you dont know what your missing out on
I don't think you will have keyboard issues with an EVO......
What are you doing to your phones to have them replaced that many times? I have never heard of anyone having so many issues before.
omg!
23 times... that is twice a month for a year!!!!
really?? IF true.. i would be a hell raiser in their store.. they would be scared to see me coming every other week!!!!
why would you want another HTC device?? you love punishment?
that said...
I love my EVO!! best phone out .. RIGHT NOW.
but... there are issues with a small portion of these phones..
and with your luck with htc..you will find all of them.. or they will find you!
normally i tell people to get th evo... but you... i hesitate.

with verizon i had 39 replacements in 2 years (i broke the front screen of one of those phones, everything else wasn't my fault) Since switching to sprint i had one replacement since june.
If you liked the Hero you will love the Evo has all of the features and so much more, plus FASTER!
Go for it, there is always the 30 day return option.

lol the 23 replacements were with in 6 month's. they were internal issues. i always use a case, screen protectors. i am very careful with these phones since there so damn expensive
im looking for something as close to the Hero as possible. ive heard alot of good about the Evo, but also alot of bad.
also thank you for very fast replies
I have never had to replace a phone -- I guess that's just me though. All I know is that if I ever had that much trouble with a phone maker, I would never again buy their product.
Edit: I have never had an issue with my Evo and I have done a lot of flashing. I have also switched 10 of my friends to an Evo and the only complaint has been battery life - which was easily handled with rooting.

i really enjoy the HTC phones and the things i can do with them. and with the android system im am very pleased. i just always get lemons. im not exactly on the lucky side lol. but i have had no issues with the HTC hero. only issue i screw up loading a new rom and it locked the phone up but i fixxed it.
I had a hero before my evo too. I loved that phone to death, but it was so damn slow. So when the evo came out I got it, and ive only had 1 replacement since july because the phone broke inside. Overall this phone is amazing. I dont have any problems with battery and the phone is super fast. Definitely get this phone!!!
thank you speedy.
@ Maximiano, i kno i keep going back to HTC but its the style of them i like. im bound to get a good one eventually and the hero has worked so far. as for the battery..... im use to it. the palm pre had a HORRID battery life. i was lucky to make it 4 hours out of the few i had.
Well I think the battery on the Evo is good. I unplug my phone at 6am every day and plug it in at 10pm every day. At 6pm im at 50% so this phone holds up durring the day. As for use:
30 mins of calling
50 txt
5 emails
20 mins of internet
Angry birds 20 mins
(Angry birds ****s on the battery)

Honestly i say yes. The Evo feels good, its fast. Even stock sense isn't that bad. You have the option to root your phone, can stay on a sense rom, and with different kernels, you can make your phone perform faster. The Evo is all touch, so no keyboard to replace.
lol angry birds rules. its so slow on the hero. but by the sounds of it. seems like its about the same life as my hero.
i do:
50-200 txt messaging.
15 emails
2 hours of music/movies
15 min-30 min of talk time.
15min-1 hour of a game. (zenonia, angry bird, ect.)
@ teh roxxorz
lol im sick of keyboard replacing. i miss how fast i use to be with a pull out keyboard but i been doing well with a touch screen. and that swype ive seen seems interesting. but thank you for the tips
The EVO is an amazing device and you wont go wrong by getting it. The stock software is passable but we have an awesome development community here and a TON of great ROMs to choose from. That being said, im sure Sprint will be releasing its successor come summertime so if you can stand it, i would wait to see whats coming out. 22 months is a long time to wait for an upgrade so you'll be kicking yourself if you buy the EVO now only to have the EVO2 (or whatever it will be called) come out a few months into your new contract.

There's alot of great devs and support for the EVO. It think it what sets this phone apart from any other. Good luck and enjoy (when you get your flash fixed).

im a Sense freak. i am gonna go with myn's warm rls5 with slayer69 cyan dragon theme.
i was thinking if i tried to flash it to see if i liked it and to see if it would fix my LED flash problem. but idk how to UNROOT the evo like i did with the hero. cause idk where to get the RUU for the evo. its on there main site for the hero but not the evo. just tells me how to hard reset by holding the volume down and power on and clean drive.
If you want instructions on how to unroot the EVO this thread on this site talks about it and has links to instructions on what you need to do.

I've had an EVO since launch day but I just bought my dad one over the week. He's upgrading from the RUMOR so it's a big step up for him. Radioshack had a promo over the weekend. Turn in your old phone and credit a $50 dollar credit for either a new EVO or EVO shift. So total it was only $150 plus tax out the door.
Also new to the EVO forums, got it today, cant wait to get home an root-root-root.

Welcome, try cm 7
I bought an Evo almost entirely because of our dev community.
Currently running MikFroyo 4.5 with Slayer's Dragon Theme (it is badASS) but I've run quite a few others. Huge CM fan (it's been on all my rooted phones at some point.
Great devs, great phone, adequate service. Yeah, I love my Evo
Plus, we have a Honeycomb rom being cooked up by AndroidBall. Excited about that as well
lucky you. i cant run the slayer69 dragon theme. its a SICK SICK theme toon. it just keeps crashing on me. but
Welcome to this old decrepit phone. In few months I'll be ditching mine. I'm just waiting to see what radio hacks develop for the cdma iphone.

evo4g died, free upgrade to what?

my evo wasnt receiving mms for what ever reason so i called sprint. they lady said the best thing i can do is use my gold membership to upgrade to a new phone. ive been running evokings various, gingerale, and mikfroyos on the evo. needless to say i dont look much at other phones and i was wondering what would be the best upgrade for messing around? i heard, but never researched, that the evo3d had the bootloader locked, what about the nexus s? sprint doesnt have alot of options and im kind of fond of htc sense, any advice?

evo3d is a good way to go and the evo3d will be unlocked by september either via alpharevx or htc otherwise id wait to see if you want the photon and if you get either one the sgII should maybe be at sprint soon idk hard to say otherwise if you just want a phone to get you through a year you could go with the nexus its supposed to be pretty good
September is a long time. Nexus s is not really an upgrade.. so either get your evo fixed or go with sgs2, photon or 3d(if you like it)
Deck's + SZ + SuperCharger script + ViperMod script.

I'm waiting for the SG2 but if your fond to Sense than you should go E3d. Honestly if I was you I would research before you make a decision. To each his own though. Even better if your content with your evo get it fixed and wait another year. Imagine what they would have then.
