[ROM] Private Stock 0.3 - Droid Eris Android Development

Here's a rom I use for my Eris I hope you like it.
features
Nexus One lock screen
Wifi Tether
not sure if I'm going to keep up with this one cause I'm waiting for the 2.1 Kernel source so I can finish my vanilla rom. try it out and let me know what you think guys
http://android.grdlock.net//index.php?direction=0&order=&directory=rigamrts roms&

Could you possibly post some screens or additional features or a list of things that work/don't work so we could have an idea of what we're working with.
Also, is the N1 lockscreen transparent or does it allow wallpapers?

Kernel source for 2.1 is released, work on the vanilla rom

Is this rom based on the latest leak?

no it's the second rom leak. everything works at least for me. it does not have the log in bug. it does not have the full market in it cause i forgot to put it in this one.
funny thing with this rom is the nexus lock screen is clear so you see your desktop. thought that was cool so i kept it.
pretty much this is my daily driver minus a few apps that are paid for. the vanilla rom i'm going to do i really won't use but figured people would want it. i'm going to try to add some cool features but private stock is my personal rom if people really like it i'll keep up with it but right now there are so many sense roms out there mine is just one of many that have flooded the forum.

im really all for any vanilla based rom. sense bogs down the phone too much imo
will your vanilla rom be oc'd? and is it based on the new 2.1v3? (really looking forward to a nice oc'd vanilla rom w/ google voice fixed 100%)
thanks for sharing!

my 2.1 is based off of the nexus one 2.1 not any of the eris roms. i've got it to install load up to the setup screen but because the touchscreen needs to be fixed i can't tell what else needs work but the rom itself will load. no there will be no sense in this rom it weighs about 60 megs so you'll have lot's of room for apps. i'm planning on adding apps2sd and overclock but first i need the rom to work mostly before adding other stuff if you guys can help by testin it once i get it to load and work this will be a badass rom.

In for Vanilla ROM with OC and down to help test.

Which 2.XX Rom is the best so far? What are you using?

im currently running AOSP 1.6 rom with gbhil custom kernal with setcpu, I really wanna switch to a newer ROM im reading alot about.
1. flipz n toast 2.1 v1.8-7
2. darchstar Cyanogen (like) 2.0.1
3. darchstar AOSP 2.1
which seems to be the best ROM with the most features and close to everything working correctly?
What is everyone using?

Still using fresh 1.1 Rom, going to try darchstar's AOSP 2.1 today. I will post when finished and let you know how it goes.
i won't use any 2.1 rom until the official comes out.
Now that multi touch and open gl is out thanks to toast, the sense 2.1 build has everything but the camara , mms receive at least for me it isnt working, and vvm
But I like the cyogen like 2.0.1 build a lot
I'm having problems in all of 'em. I like the live wallpapers, market, and maps of the AOSP 2.1, but there are quite a few bugs of things working then not working, then crashing, then working a little.
The Sense 2.1 is kinda nice, but no paid apps in the market and no live wallpapers.
I like the browser in AOSP more than the sense browser.
I haven't tried the 2.0 yet.
I don't think any of 'em are ready for prime-time. They're need, but all have critical issues.
official 2.1 is coming out soon, so I don't see much motivation to go for a custom 2.1 ROM.
Using darchstar's 2.1 right now and it is really fast!! The camera not to big of a deal(not working), But other than that should really give it a test try!!

nah, it was officially set at 2Q2010, which should be not too far off.
I agree with others, despite the massive amounts of work going into getting the kernels and roms working correctly, I will wait untill the official 2.1 as well...
wow either no one else here is trying Darchstar's 2.1 or 2.01 or im just lucky. I think his 2.1 is the best rom out, and I am including all the 1.5 and 1.6 roms in argument. Its my everyday rom, and I am a HEAVY user.
No camera = deal breaker for some.
no mms.. deal breaker.. But I use Sprint PIcture messaging website to get the missing pictures.. lol... and so I still use Darch's 2.1
the main purpose of the eclair i dev for is actually hopes of getting all hardware working in eclair with a .27 kernel. with that being said once sprint releases a 2.1 build for us we will be able to use a custom kernel in it. allowing for mods that extend beyond the build itself. the gsm hero devs know about this advantage as the .29 kernel they have runs slower then their .27 kernel in the builds. ive actually been passing my work on to lox as we fix things. trying to get them closer to a fully working 2.x build with .27 kernel under the hood also. all the 2.x builds will be buggy until we get atleast one official one to nab apps from and such. im thinking of the future right now. when sprint releases a rom and everyones pissed about source again. plus what we learn now will help us all later. i cant say one build is better then another. i guess its if u like sinse or aosp. or want this but not that. to me im just glad we are as far as we are. think about this... the dream guys dont even have opengl (as dream devs have come already looking to use our work) in their 2.x builds and the camera is half baked. also multitouch is a app hack. we have all but camera supported in a little .27 kernel and weve only had source for a few months. most said we wouldntve gotten this far in such little time. but we proved them all wrong.
I have been happy with every rom that I've found on this forum.
Gumbo 1.5c was the first I tried, and it was great. Some minor lag issues, but everything worked.
Now using toast + flips 2.1, and it's amazing. I miss my camera, but I'm not going to complain about it, because having multi touch and the consistency of how the phone runs is whats doing it for me. Thank god, I don't have to wait until Sprint releases one!
No offense to toast or anyone working on the 2.1 Sense ROM, but I tried it, and for me, it just didn't feel right. It was somehwat fast, but it did have moments of lag. Also, I didn't like all of the HTC stuff that came with it. I flashed darchstar's 2.1 AOSP, and WOW. It hit the spot. It's snappy because of the AOSP, and it has nothing "junky" in it. All I've done is flashed the HTC keyboard to it, and now it's wonderful Snappy, 2.1, AOSP, it's great. I don't really care about the live wallpapers, althought the Duck Hunt one was pretty nice.

Can we access picture mail from our phone browser and how do you know when you get a new message?
I'd like to throw it out there that after removing HtcCopyright.apk from darchstar's 2.1 AOSP, I've gotten rid of a lot, if not all, lag from the ROM. The speed also got ridiculously faster.

Advice anyone?

I hate Sprint.
Anyway, I'm about to root my hero and install DamageControl v2.08 - heard this was the most stable, fastest 2.1 out.
Before I do this, I want to make sure of a few things. Is there anything I should be aware of concerning this ROM? Will everything be working as far as camera, phone, text, keyboard, etc...
I was told it is way better than 1.5 in every aspect but am I going to be sacrificing anything (basic at least) besides the warranty and risk of bricking?
What should I expect coming from 1.5?
Sorry for being late on this...but I'm sure one of you guys will take the time out to explain this to me.
You can find most of the answers to your questions in the DamageControl dev thread.
As far as speed, I can't guarantee it is the fastest. It looks like it still has sense, and sense is a jerk as far as speed goes. I haven't ever tried DamageControl, but you'd be better off looking for something that has Sense stripped from it if you're concerned about speed.
FreshToast is really fast, but it isn't based off of the the leak, so you lose camera. It's overclocked and fast as hell, though.
there are a few cool features coming from 1.5 to 2.1, market looks different, you have pinch zoom on the dashboard, my 1.5 had rosie (the rounded menu bar at the bottom) so that wasnt new, sense is pretty and shiny and is nice to look at.
i did find it a bit faster, but i still had a bunch of sprint bloateware installed.
personally i use sushi rom based off fresh 2.0d, which is fast as heck, but is lacking a few features id like, which ill get to installing when i have the time.
good luck!
ps. totally keep a few rom zips on your SD card if you can spare the few hundred mb of space, so you can play with a few roms without needing your computer.

Fresh toast is actually based off of 2.0d which is like DamageControl, they have all sprint stuff, sense ui, and everythings included. But fresh toast has a different kernel which as of right now the camera doesnt work. And fresh toast i dont think comes with sprint stuff. I was just clearing that up
But with almost every 2.1 rom other then the overclocked ones. Everything pretty much works and you wont lose anything.
The best advice for you is... read the post of each rom and look at What doesnt work or what does work, or read the Change logs they will tell you what is new to the rom as the dev added them.
You cant go wrong with Fresh 2.0d or damagecontrol.. DC rom is basic, but comes with an App that will let you do more advanced things by the push of a button. I recommend you stick with that choice.
ok i just rooted it...
how do I install DC v2.08? I already downloaded it. Now what?? lol
nevermind got it !
with EC 2.08 you do not loose anything!!!
just get a lot of new and better things.
i think it is faster than 1.5 and more stable.
after you have DC Rom installed.
Nandroid again!!
then look at installing a2sd
If sprint doesn't release 2.1 soon, then yes I'm right there with you and I WILL ROOT my phone and follow all those on XDA. I should have already technically.
I want sense tho...so it sounds like damage control is the best eh?

i love sense ... DC roms have it.
there are other ROMs based on DC, and will have sense too.
I run sense with live wallpapers on DC, with a lot of widgets.
No problem with performance!!!!!
go ahead jump in!! you will be happier and forget about the Sprint UPdate!!!
Thanks Dan sent you a PM.
What about the samsung moment? For my wife. Any tips on a ROM that would work for the moment? Sorry, probably shouldn't be hijacking this thread.
I love my Sprint service. I hate their update schedule. I also dislike a few of their policies. Overall, though, they are the best wireless service I've ever had.
That being said, I LOVE DamageControl 2.08 on my rooted HTC Hero (Sprint/CDMA). I wiped, rooted, ROM'd, removed all the Sprint crap and other apps I didn't want, then put on all the apps I wanted. My phone rocks now.
I'd recommend it!

Going to start my own ROM

So, with all these ROM's flying around, i am deciding to create my own. But i have One big question, is there really any reason for me to? Seeing as there are already so many good ones out there, would mine be welcome with open arms and tested by people? Am just curious before i start cooking.

Its always better to have more choices I believe. And who knows, you might become the next American ROM Cook.

u may very well be the next American ROM Chef
if you finish that sense rom try and put htc widgets on a non sense rom! that would be so freaking cool!!!

Hehe, I'll bet if you make it "cool" enough looking and show this in screenshots, some people will try it on that alone.
And like mentioned regarding 3rd-party apps, even though they are "free", their license doesn't always allow anyone to freely distribute them.

ok, so, ive made some alterations, apps, launcher ect, and wated to load it up and test it, well when i went to flash it, it said cant find.....(bad), any ideas?
Ill be more than happy to help you test this ROM out...
I'll also test for any up and coming devs out there. but i will give you guys some tips on which roms i choose and why.
1. Everything has to work. I use my exchange email, gps, wifi and maps on a regular basis.
2. I love having the ability to overclock but i dont really see a point for ridiculous frequencies. Its not like i'm running a gaming server from my phone. I have the ability to overclock to 825 mhz and still be stable with my current rom but i keep it at 710 for my battery life.
3. I love having different launchers, lock screens, status bars and things like that but live wallpapers are a no go. Every time i touch a live wallpaper my phone freezes and reboots.
Right now i am using ic3rom 2.7 because everything works and it has wired tethering.
If you guys can create a rom that everything works and do some extensive photoshopping it is almost guaranteed to be a hit.
Hit me up on andirc.net #droideris
I'm lurking occasionally. But I'd love to even get involved in cooking up some roms with DS36 or chaous2000
I'm d33d in the chat, and I'm available at alexinslc [attttt] gmail [dottttt] com
Isn't that what open source is about? I'm no master of code, but I can learn fast.
Also, my eris is open to testing roms with very similar guidelines (must have exchange, gmail, txting, and phone.) that's about it. Would like 3G and Wifi if possible.

Eugene OR TeamWhiskey 2.2

So it looks like they both have working 2.2 builds out in the wild now. My question is which one is better, or which one are YOU going to use? Let's try and keep the comparison here, that way we don't clog up both of these wonderful dev's threads.
I have never used either since I'm still stock. What was the general consensus before their new 2.2 builds?
I wouldn't know. They both have a huge following though. What I have noticed is that each one has very loyal followers. It almost seems as if its "either one or the other". But since it is now 2.2, it is a completely different ball game.

Fair question, but somewhat irrelevant in my opinion. My experience with stock vs cooked ROMs (MT3G CM6) is that the only real advantage is better speed. Sure, a few different user-experience changes, but that's all. An the stock ROMs are far more stable.
My stock Vibrant is already plenty fast. I'm rooted and can use root-only apps. My Dolphin browser already displays Flash. JIT will make it technically faster, but will I actually notice..? What would Eugene or TeamWhiskey add to that...?
Have not tried either but am running fusion by team wiskey with there kernel. Phone runs to good to worry about 2.2.

This statement is very inaccurate. When was the last time you installed a bionix rom?
I'm running the 2.2 and it is flawless. 2.2 offers a lot of improvements over 2.1 besides flash. If you don't know what those are then you really shouldn't be giving uninformed information.

Which one looks like stock? Both? I really despise the all black theme I see on the 2.1 Bionix roms. It just looks tacky in some places like the notifications pull down and it's too black. I see Macnut looks kind of like stock.. no screenshots included with either tho. Either way I've downloaded Macnut and I will be installing it ASAP. I'll try the other 2.2 rom next..

2.2 is A VERY BIG update. I dont know about Vibrant, but it should improve battery, it should run faster due to JIT, it has MANY extra features, and its compatible with 2.2 apps (new Gmail, Chrome-to-phone, youtube, flash...etc). move to 2.3 is not that big
that said, i trust TW more then Eugene.
Personally I think it's too soon to be worried about which one is better for general use. I'd give it a little time for each to get some additional polish unless you just enjoy flashing roms all the time every time a new one comes out. Chances are there'll be bug-fixes and tweaks to both in the next few days. Wait for that and more feedback from the early adopters and then decide...
When I got my phone used it had Eugenes rom on it, but I felt Bionix and team Whiskeys roms have been the best roms besides CM.
Put it this way I have only donated to 2 developers, #1 CM and #2 Team Whiskey.

It isn't flawless. Calendar doesn't sync. Holding back results in a FC (new screenshot feature not implemented properly). I've had inconsistency in the market. Don't get me wrong, I'm using it and I like it, but don't throw the word 'flawless' around so easily.
If you remove screencapture.apk that fixes the back button long press fc and you need to install calendar(something).apk to fix sync issues..
It all comes down to personal preference. My experience with Eugene's 2.1 ROMs are that they're TOO skinned. I personally prefer Team Whiskey.
To answer your question about which looks more stock, Team Whiskey hasn't really skinned the Obsidian ROM all that much, so it basically looks like Stock TouchWiz.

there is a fix already for both
I was using Macnut R7 and was about to flash R9 but Team Whiskeys downloaded faster. The major difference between R9 and 7 is, wi fi calling, modem and working gps with some minor tweeks.
If that is true then my comparison won't be too far off.
The biggest difference between the too is that Team W is a near perfect leak of the official 2.2 rom and Eugene's has some mods like built lag fix and a modified version of T.W. which for the most part is better than stock (not perfect but better; in my opinion)
That should really be what makes you choose which one you want.
Secondary things to think about is that, whiskey roms are known for getting official ota's which is nice if you want to get the official with little work, but its still kinda glitchy and slower than Eugenes, but not in a bad way. If you are running stock without a lag fix then you won't notice much. Eugene's rom is highly modded and some stock things won't work like if you still have avatar on your sdcard, and since his is a port there are some remnants of I9000 and cappy things floating around that can throw you off. But it is less glitchy atm and too me looks better. It has a lightly themed Modified TW. But you can get and install that yourself if you want there is a link in the macnut thread.
Hope that helps. I'm Running tw's rom now but I'm going to check out R9.

htc hero flashed to Android 2.3 Ginger Bread or prefer to Android 2.2 Froyo

htc flash hero to Android 3.2 Ginger Bread or prefer to Android 2.2 Froyo
I wanted to ask how it is flashed to Android 2.3.Denn as I can read it here it is indeed the rom, but it is generally weak for the Hero? Or rather 2.2 flashed? For I bröchte already a rom, the but also in German
I still have Froyd Villain Rom but I read a lot of good about the 2.3 roms and I am waiting to change over as soon as the RC are done and Elelinux puts out a definite version of his rom(or Cyanogen).
For the german part, I decided for myself to go with english because it is easier to find as it is standart on the roms and it is also easier to describe with the english words when I have problems (also the descriptions use the english terms). As far as I know in most roms you can chose the language and it should work without problems...
but how do I braid at all? because I have 2.1 on it yet
I am not sure what you mean by braid, but if you mean root, than here you go:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4257045
The roms can be downloaded here in the forums and then just flash them as indicated.
pigtail I mean how can I flashed it?
I'm using latest version of Elelinux-7.0.0-RC1-Hero-v0.9 and it's running good so far

I'm still on froyo but with a gingerbread theme. I'll probably wait until cm7 is final.

I think I'd very much prefer 2.3 Gingerbread
Will probably flash CM7 tonight just to check out... hopefully it will become final SOON ^^
BTW, I'm new on the forum
I prefer gingerbread using cm7 nightlies atm
I'm on the cm7 nighties too. The default keyboard alone makes 2.3 worthwhile!
First time ROM user....
I was at a loose end yesterday and ended up using ROM manager to install Elelinux 7.0.0 version of Gingerbread on my GSM HTC Hero, TMobile branded G2. I have been messing about with root and launcher pro/ADW for ages and was getting really bored with my Hero, too slow for lots of apps, too old etc. This ROM has given it a new lease of life and lots to play with. I haven't fully worked out what's what etc and am loathe to fill it up with lots of personalised settings and apps because I might well find myself flashing another ROM before long. Thanks be to Google for storing most of my stuff in 'the cloud' and making me NEVER have to lose my contacts again.
I am impressed with this ROM, no crashes, fast and efficient. Only a bit of graphics lag on swiping across screens.
Also, does anyone know why there is no pinch on homescreen to show miniature versions of the screens?
Thanks,
Hamish
Try putting two fingers in opposite corners of the screen and slide them to the center

I think Froyo is probably the fastest on Hero from what I've heard and personally experienced with a mix of Ele CM6.2 Speed, and Ele/Cronos Gingerbread builds.
The difference though, especially with Ele 1.1.1 for me at least who doesn't really have the animations and runs at 691MHz isn't enough for me to want extra speed by downgrading to 2.2. I'm happy enough eating some gingerbread everyday now, although it took a while!
Since my last post I realised that I was on 0.9. I then tried froyd villain but got scared. I now have 1.1.1 and it's great. One problem is the gps losing it's fix. Any ideas on how to fix?
I LOVE the new photo gallery and the camera seems better too.

There's a fix on post (change gps libs from CM7 nightlies..)

I put gingerbread 2.3 on my hero and it was so much better for a while.
But now for some reason it has started to run a bit slow not loading the home screen. I have not able to figure out why yet.
Do not want to go back to 2.2 now.
Launcher pro does not seem to like gingerbread for some reason. keeps force closing.
Still learning android an dhow to troubleshoot and optimize.
