Hi guys,
Lately I have been developing a kitchen to help ordinary people learn how to build their own ROM on HTC-based Android devices. It allows you to do basic things such as rooting a shipped ROM, adding apps2sd, modifying the task killer memory threshold, etc.
Today I added some settings to make it work for the Droid Eris, but I am unable to test it, as I don't have an Eris.
Here is the link to the kitchen:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246
Please try it out if you can, and let me know if it works
Before flashing any ROM from the kitchen, please make a Nandroid backup first of your existing ROM!
Thank you, and enjoy!
I will cook a rom with your kitchen and test it on my Eris. Thank you for your work.
Will update with results.
UPDATE!
kitchen mostly works, the roms build and they flash onto the phone. had a few problems with setting task management, then tried option 14 and 15 with a few errors as well, so i just skipped that and just did a very basic rom build. so the core of the kitchen works and you can build roms, the issues i am having could be with my setup or it could be that DSIXDA was unable to test it before releasing, but for an untested kitchen it is FANTASTIC!
if this works does this mean we can overclock our phones..?

what from the first two posts made you think this?
because i was reading that with this we can make a rom that doesnt belong on our phone and make it to where it can go on our phone. soo if we get a rom that can be over clocked will that work
Thank you!! Of course I am damned by the leak but I feel a root coming on and this will really come in handy...

I don't believe you would be able to make a ROM that have the capabilities to OC. With all these current ROMS that have been made by competent cooks, yet none of them OC. But hey, you might be able to and prove me wrong. Which I do hope you can. But I have read from a few forums that OC is not that possible.
We don't have the source for 2.1 for our phone. When we do then OC'ing will be possible. That won't be released until hopefully with or shortly after official 2.1 OTA is released from Verizon.
Thanks!
Probably won't be cooking as much as fiddling with ROMs to suit my own ideals of them, but this seems like it might open the doors to a lot more people.
Just tried porting the DarchDroid ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5663463
From the base of this:
eris21official-root.zip: http://www.multiupload.com/YP1BIUOF60
Everything was successful and I got a signed ROM, but it wouldn't boot. Just got stuck on splash. Tried doing logcat too but nothing showed up.

Please make sure you can flash an actual Eris ROM before you start work on porting roms from other devices. Let me know how that works out.

Yesterday there wasn't any Droid Eris support, that's why it wasn't working yesterday. I had to modify the kernel build command a bit for the Eris. Actually, now that I think about it, the code from yesterday should still work, as it correctly figured out the kernel's base address.
I'll dig into it a bit more...
quick quesion, what are the main differences between hero and eris roms?
Sent from my Eris using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
So where Can I get a stock eris rom since you advise against using nandroid backup???

Basically the kernel's physical base address and the WiFi module. There are a few minor things as well. I did not port an Eris ROM myself when I had the Hero, but this is what people have told me.

dsixda, when i tried to follow your setup guide for your kitchen, i noticed that you didnt have any links for x64 based linux setups. i tried to find the java bin and jre install files but linux is new to me and i dont think i grabbed the right ones. would you be able to point me to the right links for those on ubuntu 9.10 x64?
thanks!
Have you tried obtaining the Java package with the sudo command? Unfortunately I have not tried the 64 bit method, nor have I been asked about it before. If you find a way please let us know.
If you guys are still having problems with the cooked ROM not booting, then I'll ask some of the experienced Eris cooks around here for help.

I will try cooking a new ROM right now. No porting or anything, just a cooked ROM from the original 2.1 root with some apps removed so I know it is different.
Updating in a few...
I'm working on a ROM right now using your kitchen. I just recently came across your kitchen while searching the forums. I am using version v0.38 and I'm assuming eris support is on v0.39, correct? Should I just extract the the files into the same directory that I have been using for v0.38?
I'll let you know when I sign and try to flash if it works. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Dag, this is like my 4th post on this side of xda-developers this week...
Anyways I hope you guys can help me.
Im using the latest AT&T Rom for the Rhodium as a base and I'm dropping in 2016 Manila and it will just not work. The AT&T Manila (2013) will but when I load the 2016 manila it will not. The first time it worked but now there is no way to get it working. I started over on my kitchen and still no dice. One thing I noticed is that Menu Enhancement isn't working correctly now. Could that be related? Anything that I should be looking at? Start icon Loader is the one that came with the 2016 Manila. Thanks!
do you have it cfc'd. Thats what I had to for it to load on my girls phone. I had similar problems using the same files from my hd2. Worked fine on my phone but wouldnt load until I cfc'd them on hers.

Tried everything. I dropped in 2012 (it was 2013) and it worked but I drop in 2016 and it wont work no matter how many packages I replace. I don't know how it used to work...
Are you adding all missing stuff from initflashfiles.dat from the manila 2016-based ROM to the one you are cooking?

I will try that and report back, but the first time I did not do that and it worked. My v0.10 (first build I ever made) worked with no hiccups. Now it won't work for the life of me.
Thanks and I'll report back.
Attached the Initflashfile.dat from Leo 3.04 that use Manila 2016, it came from OEM_Lang 0404 so i suggest you to copy and past only Manila references. (backup your Initflashfile, dat before).
First i want to say thanks to all the developers that got involved to make this possible. Their hard work and sleepless nights are greatly appreciated.
I tried so many combinations of ROM's and Radio's that i gave up and nearly lost hope until a friend of mine at work found the perfect combination of Windows Mobile and Android to load on the US Tmobile HD2. Maybe i should buy him lunch tomorrow .
I think many are experiencing the issues i had, soooo.... I wanted to share this information and show you all little lost sheep out there how to get to the light at the end of the tunnel.
If you want to start from scratch, meaning from the factory ROM on the phone, then do what i did and follow the instructions below in the same order i performed them. If you are savvy enough to follow along without starting from a stock ROM, then more power to you. These steps are for the dummies like me who are out there and cant follow instructions.
Again this is for the US-TMobile HD2's. I dont know that this will work for the EU HD2's. Try at your own risk.
Step 1
Install the TMO Stock ROM. Click Here
Step 2
Root your TMO Stock ROM by installing 2.08.HardSPL. Click Here
Step 3
Install Energy's "Stardard-Energy" ROM located on the US TMO forum but for your convenience.... Click Here
Step 4
Install Radio version 2.12.50.02.2. Click Here
Step 5
Copy shubCRAFT's "Android" folder to the root of your SD Card. Click Here
- (I edited the startup file to prevent the "cant access tty; job control turned off " error message, therefore this install should be plug and play.
- When the copy is complete, place the SD CARD back in your phone if not already, and run clrcad & haret from the Storage card.
- You can also use the auto boot loader .cab file on your WM rom to autoload Android. Click Here
Updated: 8/7/10
For those of you who are having issues and don't know how to modify the startup.txt file. Here is a copy of the startup.txt file without the "loop_partition=mmcblk0" command line. Click Here
Just copy the file to the Android folder and overwrite the existing one and you should be all set.
Step 6
Here is a new 1GB userdata.img download link. Click Here
The old one was giving issues with texting. If you guys want a bigger userdata file let me know. This will also fix any download issues from the Market and prevent low disk space errors when attempting to install an application from the SD card.
Update: 8/7/10
Here is a 4GB userdata.img for the ones that wanted a bigger file. Click Here
I'll have to try this. Keep having the static/echo problem no matter what radio I use. Currently I'm running ChuckyROMS and dan1j3l's Froyo build. Got one more radio to try and if that doesn't work, oh well, I'll try this combo.
As far as I remember I am using ChuckyDroid and Radio 12_50.2 and matt latest version and no echo/sod since yesterday and got about 20 hours out of battery life. Must mention I use the phone "alot" so my battery drains accordingly

Wow are you serious 20 hours ????
I'm using:
LEO_Cloudy_1.6 and Radio 2.12.50.02_2
mattc Leo + Froyo w/Sense RC1.4
together with Cloudy AndroidLoader too
Working perfectly, no robotic voice
the new zimage is what kills the echo, nothing magical about it.
Frustrating!
Even with the new zimage, clean SD, I still get robo-voice. I refuse to clean out my stock TMOUS ROM / radio though...there has to be a fix that doesn't require me to do HSPL....(i own a mac...is there an easy way to do HSPL on a mac?)

U don'nt have to HSPL again to install the Radio, and neither will u lose any data, so just go ahead if an new radio will help resolving the robo-voise
Does flashing the stock tmo rom first really make a difference? I've flashed like crazy to get the best combo but haven't had the stock rom since I first flashed.
No matter what I do I'm still getting massive background noise (mic gain?) downloading energy + shubcraft now, let's see if this does it!
I can't say its perfect... it seems clear... just very low volume.. I do love how well this is all coming along!! what 2 weeks and it almost totally usable ?!?!
us tmo hd2
Radio version 2.12.50.02.2
Energy's "Stardard-Energy" ROM
shubCRAFT's Android build

Its not the rom but the audio driver that the rom uses. Look for robotic sound problem thread in this section for the files.

You know guys, I really gotta say this. I think its really mestup that when you try to download the "Standard-Energy Rom" they give you the option to either pay them for a fast download or suffer through their agravating super slow download that they intentionally made that way for who ever doesnt wanna pay up.
I noticed the "Affiliate Program" they have which for those of you who dont know, it just means that every time someone goes and pays for the "super fast download", there is someone behind the scene getting paid for making you pay. That someone is usually the one who provides the link to that website.
Why am I exposing this? because who ever is doing this should at least have the curtesy to let us know it is NOT free to download and HE will make money when you choose to pay, not just thinking he's fooling people to a comission- which he is.
The last time I tried downloading for free, it took 2 1/2 hours and at the end I got a little "Error" message saying there was a problem downloading and the download could not be completed. - .. as expected for not paying up right?
How do I know this, because I AM an "Affiliate Marketer". I know how this stuff works, but I dont work this way.
has anyone realized this is a emulator .....lmao

Yeah you got it, thats the only "magical" thing. With the last Radio all Echos are gone and the Bad Backround noises too.
No one must try diff ROM and Radios anymore.
I use the Original 1.66 Stock ROM and Darkstones Desire v5 (my absolute favorit) and with the latest zimage the last Soundproblems are solved.
I only wait for GPS works in the v5, coz than it is the perfect build.
Thank you for this post! Very helpful

ROMeOS has been updated to v4.17 expressly for Android Compatibility
I just booted into Android and it said there was a software update. it downloaded, but of course won't install on my phone because it's running from the card and my phone turns off and boots back into windows whenever i hit 'install now'. does anybody know what the update is? it says it has new features and new performances so i'm dying to know what it is. did anyone else get this message recently?
I had the same thing happen to me on froyo sense, I just ignored it, it wont install.
yap,Me TOO ingored it
Errr why would you need them? We get the latest greatest Android builds right here on XDA. We're probably ahead of the game anyway with regard to features thanks to the awesome developers here!
it's 2.2.1 update OTA
Use your file manager to located the downloaded update file, open it on your desktop, extract the contents of the patch folder and put them into your current Android folder. Reboot and it should've updated.

What does the update do anyway? Will it mess up our system since it's a custom build?
Sorry if there's and alternate thread going on somewhere, I don't see the update working by simply adding the patch file contents to the root of the Android folder...or is it just me

...or a different scenario could be that some people are still using older builds, say Darkstones Froyo 2.1 build from 18th Aug, because they've had no probs and wondered if it was possible to update?
Poor Darkstone's a busy man judging from the work he's done lately...hate to keep pestering the guy for an update
Thanks anyway.
Hello guys! Just picked up my Nexus 7, loving 4.4.2 so far, but sadly more eager to try out Oxydo v16 kernel than anything and for the life of me I can't figure out why the files are zips, but yet downloading them yields a non .zip file on my computer, or directly to my Nexus. Has anyone else ran into this issue? I have 4 years under my belt with Android but yet I'm seeing something so simple is being very complicated :cyclops:. Any ideas??
Also I am currently running Purity ROM with the stock kernel.

No I have not, lol, sadly I can't believe that wasn't a first try on my end, I will do that after work. One thing that doesn't make sense though is all .zip files in the developers drop box have this issue, yet no one has reported it?
Well, I just downloaded the latest version of Oxydo from his dropbox site and it worked fine for me. The file I got is a zip file already. Im not sure why it isnt for u. Which browser are u using and do u use winrar or some other software?
If renaming the file works for u, just ignore the above and reply back
Firstly, I am greatly pleased to see someone appreciating my kernel so much as to download and try it before anything else when there are clearly so many things to try out here.
Secondly, when downloading from Chrome it often snips the ZIP extension. Doing what @anshulratchet has said will make it flashable.
