Hi all, I just got a new HTC HD2 from T-Mobile US and wanted to know if someone can point me in the right direction on how to install Android. I'm pretty familiar with Android since my first Smartphone was the HTC Dream/G1 (which I miss already) and the only reason I got this phone besides the specs was that I heard you can hack it to run Android. I have no clue about Windows Mobile phones since this is my first one (and I don't like it already LOL) but if I can get Android on here then maybe she's a keeper...any help will do, thanks in advance.
Sell your HD2 if you don't like WM. It'll be a while before Android is on it. Android is possible on the HD, if you want to get that phone.

WOW! So Android hasn't been ported to the HD2 yet? Looks like I'm taking my phone back to T-Mobile and sticking with my trusty Dream until the next best thing comes out.
nice job on the research there buddy....
heres the android thread btw. very far from an android build.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=651632
may i advise you to at least try out wm first though. its actually not that bad, and i think that sense makes it look much nicer than android
you didnt look into this stuff before you went and got the phone? typical... "shot, then ask questions"
You're going to miss the speed of the hd2. I had an HTC Dream too.
You have 2 weeks to try it before you have to return it if you don't like it.
Hi Guys I have been a winmo user for a while and then i moved to android with xperia x10. however i am thinking of changing my toy and unable to decide between 2 HD2 and desire.
for me i felt both OS as same for my usage in fact i liked winmo for exchange support more.
so if you guys have to make a choice which one would you like to go for.
Waiting for your honest advise.
HD2 is best looking phone IMO, problem is, WM is running. I chose a Desire because of that, not the same looks, but same specs + Android.
Aka, Desire if i had to pick.
i played arround with android on my hd2 and now i wish i had a desire... android seems more like what win mobile should have been... althogh android is so young... android is much more smoother and the integration with google, gmail, social networks is much better than win mo... on top of that the market has much more options that win mo...
AFAIK froyo supports exchange server...
my bad...i posted a Q earlier that is HD2 the best option, and i was suggested that HD2 is indeed the best option as compared to any phone including Desire...
desire has a plastic body...so that is something i wouldnt like much...and above all HD2 has the best display

At it runs beautiful!
again for me this is a no brainer just buy the hd2 and if you want run the desire android build.
that way you can have both in one handset with a bigger screen.
so seems that everyone suggest that I should go with Android ?
so now if i flash a android ROM on HD2 will it be as good as Desire since desire was made for Android.
Also do we have a stable Android ROM for HD2 ?
Please help guys i got to buy it in 2 to 3 days

IMO the Hd2 is much better than any android device out there currently.
The Hd2 is NOT a capable Android device. I had a Nexus One that I sold to get the Hd2 off of craigslist for cheap thinking I could run both. Only problem with that is the fact that your running an entire operating system off of the SD card on a phone not designed to run it at all.
People that have never used Android will say it runs fine on the Hd2, but I had the Nexus One for 6 months and I can really feel the slowdown and battery issues.
I would recommend the Hd2 to anyone I know but NOT if you need to have Android. I like WM 6.x much better on my Hd2 over Android...

Cmon man don't act like a little girl about this decision. If you want the Hd2 then go for it but dont try to act like we are really going to be the determining factor that makes the decision by rushing us. Yeah we might tell you something you like but have a pair and make a good decision yourself
i dont know why but the desire feels like a girls phone
my choice would be hd2 WinMo is way better than android to me...only boot android occasionally to play some games or use some apps that are missing in Winmo its a win win situation
will a custom ROM have android instead of WM6.5 ?? i mean it will direct boot to android or we still have to open android from WM6.5 ??
at the moment you run android as an application in windows mobile.
other way is to flash andoid to nand like we now flash our windows mobile roms.
as far as i know there is not enough room to flash both OSes to nand. <- pls correct me if im wrong
oh ok when it will be 100% functional with everything working it could be flashed to nand without the WM ?
why did u buy a winmo phone when u want android?
...the world as we know it...will come to an end... lol well what's most likely to happen is people wanting to get windows phone 7 on the phone.

loooooool i saw the title and was about to write the exact same thing ...
what would happen ..... it will run 100% no more no less , alltho i doubt that will ever happen cuz it occasionally has bad days on nexus too , like all the OS-es

i think thats wrong. android is NOT an app running in windows mobile. this would mean android is runnning as some kind of emulation. as far as i know, winmo is still needed in order to initialize the hardware. by starting haret.exe, the wince-kernel is shut down and a linux bootloader is started.
hopefully we'll be able to flash an android rom to nand and have a device which can hold either OS equally. I personally like the fact that the HD2 can become versatile. I agree - that if someone wants to run android only, he should buy an Android device. I wanted to have a taste of android with the ability to run WM as i have for the past 4 years.

I bought the device with the intent on running android. I am not help bent on completely removing it
There hasnt been a device until the evo 4g that had the same screen size. And since i dont hop carriers I cant use the evo.
The my touch 3g slide screen is too small
The my touch screen is too small
The samsung galaxy screen is too small
The g1 screen is too small.
The samsung behold 2 sucked !
THe cliq sucked
The nexus 1 screen is too small
So people do have reasons to have the hd2.
Plus a lot of people I have met with the hd2 didnt realize what they were buying. Most people hate the phone. They then see mine with android and fall in love.

Can some one answer this question. What windows mobile 6.5 do, that android can't do? This is my first WM phone and I tho it was alright. I would of got the Evo but I can't switch carriers until the end of the year. Since now we got android, I'm staying with t-mo. I pay full price for this phone ($560.00 in NYC) I first regretted and since android I don't. Anyways I found that android do much more for me than WM. So if I'm wrong please some one tell me. Ps: excuse my english.

For me, I would consider the NAND flash for Android ROM the 100% fully functional since that is of primary importance to me here.
I bought my HD2 even though I knew it had WM. And at the time I didn't want Android at all, just my WM, but with some configurations & such.
But now that I have Android running on it instead, I never want to go back.
And just like someone else said, there ain't an Android phone around that have the same hardware specs as the HD2. Except the EVO, but I've had my phone a long time before they released the EVO. And from what I know it's only available in the US. Maybe I could import one and configure it to run on Swedish networks, but wth..
The wife and I got this phone and she didn't realize it was Windows Mobile. This was my first experience with Sense UI and thought it was awesome.
I loved the phone for what it could do and actually "Used" it to it's potential. She "HATES" it. Then again, I don't blame her. Sense fails hard when it comes to texting and load lag
She can't wait till I can flash Android to her phone. Me, i'll stick with my options.

I don't think people who HATE WinMo buy this phone with the sole intent of putting another OS on it. I think most people bought it for the screen & the media capabilities. For me, I saw a lot of potential in the hardware specs and bought mine cause it's the last real WM phone(I'm sappy like that) and because it's a GSM phone that I can unlock & use for years to come. It was like buying a barebones PC that I could run whatever I want on & have multi-boot systems.
I decided to run Android on it initially out of sheer curiosity, and so I can learn the next OS I'm gonna be using. When WM dies out(it's GOING to happen, so we may as well face it), Android will be what I will move on to partly because its Linux & open source, and partly because there's no way in pus-spewing, blood-gutted hell that I would ever use an iPhone or Blackberry(WP7 has NEVER been an option). I must say, Android runs VERY well on this phone even in its current stage of development, I can't wait to see how awesome it'll be as a fully flashable rom. I'm already almost to the point of not even missing WM anymore. I've been running it for a week now & I'm getting to know how everything works & I love it. Very versatile & powerful, and quite stable. I don't think I quite realized just how many lockups and crashes I was really having with WM until I started using Android as my main OS. The first time I used Android I HATED it because I had a bad build & an underpowered phone(One of the first leaked Froyo builds on a Sprint Hero) and it ran like crap. But with the combo I've got now, it's simply awesome. Everything is so integrated & all the programs mesh together so beautifully. It really does 'just work', and it's hackable & customizable at the same time. Best of both worlds. If & when a NAND version of Android for the HD2 comes out, you can count me in.
Don't get me wrong, I will ALWAYS love WinMo. I think it's the best mobile OS there ever was, and it's incredibly sad that it's dying. It would still be going strong if Microsoft had just marketed it better & hadn't copped out with WP7. But I'm not gonna stay with a stagnant platform that nobody develops for anymore(I'd have stayed with Palm OS otherwise), and I was honestly starting to get bored with it. I had pushed WM to it's limits & did everything I could possibly do with it, and it's just time to move on. I believe Android is the wave of the future, and will eventually overtake the iPhone in popularity.
Plus I love robots, so anything named 'Android' is automatically cool in my book
I agree with you wholeheartedly. Friendly robots are a plus in my book.

Once android 2.2 is fully working, android gingerbread will be released and people can start working on that. Windows phone 7 is also a possibility. Ubuntu is still under development as well. The possibilities are endless.

I have confirmed that Windows Phone 7 is being released on several devices on November 8th. The tmobile version has two devices, the one that interests me is the HTC HD7 (and dell venue pro). Nice looking phone 4.3 inch screen, but major difference is it has three buttons (touch like the HD).

Thank you for the bad/good news!!!
I actually just signed up to get a HD7 as soon as it's released. I keep seeing that there are too many driver/hardware compatibility issues to make wp7 work on the hd2...
A little f'd up because HTC hinted that anyone who bought the HD2 would be able to upgrade when wp7 came out...it's a good thing that we have great chef's otherwise the HD2 would be a waste

android on htc hd7 same as htc hd2??
now that this phone is coming out will it be the same process to run android on this new phone hd7, or is it more complicated then the htc hd2. are these the same phone basically spec wise except for touch buttons and a kickstand. lets strat the comparison, as i just ordered a hd2 to put android on it but not sure if the hd7 will run android better.
hd7 is not out yet how do we know if you can even run android on windows phone 7! we will all have to wait and see!
Hopefully our great devs here will be able to port wp7 over. Cotulla already got it to boot up on the hd2, which is a great sign. Considering the hd7 has the exact same hardware as our hd2, wp7 has the possibility to run great on our phones. We can only hope and support our devs. Time will tell.

I'd be a little skeptical about trying the same process on the HD7, will an uploader work or will it brick the phone. we know what happened with the the hd2 hspl was neccessary. And, if the drivers are so different that the wm7 is incompatible with the hd2's hardware...i would assume just throwing the android we have now onto a diffent device is asking for trouble (althoug from everything I'm seeing, the hd7 is almost the same thing... i dont like the fact that the 16gb of memory is on board...will it have an sd slot?)
I'd wait until someone successfully does it

When I looked at the spec it look like it the same processor as my HD2 except for the button. So it can be program to use Windows Mobile 7 without programming the other buttong? Just curious. Can someone check it out? Thanks.
Oh you dear, sweet, uninitiated. Allow me to clarify some points:
1-WILL THE HD2 GET AN UPGRADE TO WP7
A-Officially, no. This was announced some months ago that the HD2 will NOT be getting an upgrade to WP7 from MS or HTC.
2-DOES THAT MEAN THAT A CUSTOM WP7 ROM WILL HAPPEN?
A-Maybe. As it has been stated, Cotulla has booted WP7 successfully on HD2 hardware, but it is uncertain as to wether it will work in day to day use. His team is currently VERY secretive about what is/isn't working.
3-WHAT ABOUT ANDROID?
A-I have always said, if you wan't Android, buy and Android device. WP7 will almost certainly NOT work with current Android builds. Different hardware, different drivers etc. Oh and WP7 is not compatable with CE applications...which means HaRET...and pretty much any program written for WinMo.
I hope that clears some things up!
Hi HTC HD2 freaks,
Last week I tested Mango on my HTC HD2 (EU).
After some work I succeeded with the installation
of Rom XBmod Yuki v.2 and updated with the original version
Updated with Zune. Please do not ask me how I did it because it was
a lot of work because I did not keep track of all I did during the installation.
I only want to tell you about my experience with Mango on my HTC HD2
First of all Mango is fast both not so fast as Android on my HTC (TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 v3.6.8) It looks nice and this OS is easy to work with the app`s from the market place where nice both there where many app`s I did not find yet.
Activation code:
Everythings works and I activated with an original HTC HD7 code that I got trough the Windows Servise Center in Germany, I am Dutch and I speak German. Well so I convinced the lady from Microsoft that I lost my Activation keys and if she make me a new activation code. The ask for your name and telephone number so a gave the a German name and telephone number I found on Google. She did not find the name so I said something most have gone wrong in the fist activation. So she made a new code for me and It work great.
So after a few days of exploring I changed back to TyphooN CyanogenMod 7
v3.6.8 because I mis the open source possibilities and the much more extended OS.
Mango Review:
Fast with nice Live Tiles no nice Themes.
Nice interface both not very adjustable not open source.
No nice widgets, no adding pages.
I did not like the Explorer 9 it is my opinion not very mobile friendly it duos not adjust the pages text like in Android. So no good and for me the most disappointing!!!
Not much text pasting possibilities.
Not so much sharing possibilities as in Android.
Conclusion:
Android will not loose many users to Windows Mobile and when the do many will com back after the experienced the OS.
Nokia will still going to cell less Smart phones because of Windows.
Android will go on winning more users and Apple will stay second.
Windows Mango we will see. It is a nice OS for non Android users!

OK, this is only your opinion.
I don't share this opinion.
I hate this public opinions on mobile OS.
Do you know why ?
Well it's up to user which OS looks to him the best mobile OS.
Everyone should work with the OS that can be the most efficient for his work.
Nobody can say WP7,Android, Meego,Symbian, OS X, are
bad OS. They have simmilar functions but in different UI and that's tha point.
Not everyone likes the same UI.
Thats my opinion and stop saying the your public opinion because nobody care. This is my advice.
There are always people that have to react because they feel affendid.

It's because the way you write your piece, that might offend people.
You write it as your opinion has to count for everybody
You think Android is better for your HD2, which is fine. I am running official Mango now for 3 days and to be honest, I'm sticking with it.
If everybody would start a thread saying what OS they think is better, XDA would be a huge mess.
You stick with Android, if that works for you. No biggie
I tried various OS versions and builds thanks to my HD2 and I am forever grateful to the developers who gave us all an opportunity to do so on one device.
Up until Mango I was sticking with my Android Gingerbread build and the times I flashed Nodo and other WP7 variant I didn't last long and returned to Android because I missed the interface, the applications - all the lovely things that make Android such a fun OS to use.
When full, properly working Mango came along, the OS choice became much tougher, because I was quite taken by it. So here I am with the best of both worlds - Mango off Nand and Gingerbread off SD. During the day I switch back and forth many times, each OS has its advantages and I am glad I don't have to decide on just one.
I love my HD2!!!! Before I got it, I told everyone that it is a phone of my dreams. It didn't let me down.

I strongly disagree... Have dual boot WP7 + CM7 2.3.5 and all that I can say that Android behaves much better on HD2 than WP7. Android is much adjustable and flexible than WP7 which reminds me of an Apple (iPhone) limitations. Will wait for a stable version of Mango and will give it a shot then will write a comment about it
