Haha just for comic relief i wanted to start this thread :d
anyone else having huge problems with this phone when being drunk?
I accidently dropped the phone last thursday. I was in a club and my back cover flew off! Haha
I thought about this topic too, but I can't answer this question yet...
With my old D750 I was able to call any contact I wanted - at all time. Actually without dropping the phone or dial a wrong number
I don't know how, but I've managed it
You missed a few options:
"No, its just as hard to use SOBER never mind drunk!"
"Yes, but no harder than any other phone.".

Ah yes, i don't think there is a way to edit the poll though Are these options true for you? I think it's pretty easy when sober but my other phones were much easier when leaning against the wall of a bar and trying to text message with double vision lol
ahhahah when i'm really drunk i can't use my phone but i can't walk on my feet too
Just think, it's a new selling point>
X1 may save your relationship.. NO more embarrasing drunk calls!

hehe, ever i not drunk now, still have chances to miss click with finger, lol
Well... maybe its better to not call when being drunk, so that you wont call people sleeping innocent at 4/5 in the morning.. i had that on my p990i the next morning i saw that i called 5 numers but that was much like 341426 and that number doesnt exists ..
i wouldnt risk damaging it lol...so i use my old w580i when i go out. But if i were drunk in the house with my x1 i'd probably say it was harder than some other phones simply cause of the touchscreen.
Maybe this is an idea for a new panel, one that is very easy to use when you are drunk and has taxis and kebab shops on speed dial, lol
Nice thread
I find the phone fine on most occasions, but like someone said a while back, never buy this phone for your girlfriend/mother/grandmother (unless they're relatively geeky and have a bit more patience than your average, erm, trying not to dig myself a hole here, but you get what I mean).
It's not the most intuitive phone to use, but when setup properly with a nice GUI it can be easier to use. It's just that with basic WM you have to be quite accurate with the stylus/finger. And as we all know, accuracy goes out of the window when you're drunk...

Who else calls their N1 "my precious" ?
Mine is otherwise known as "ribbon of endless joy" after the Star Trek Nexus Energy Ribbon - or it was until I realised it had no vibrate or haptic functioning and had to send it back (with an unlocked bootloader...) Hope I see it again.
Dayz ...
I sent mine back with dusk under the screen and unlocked bootloader. I had them send me a replacement first. I hope they don't charge me a repair fee.
hahah funny other people do it aswell, i ever since i got it i call my n1 my precious but thats gonna change in a coupple of months time ;D

I was wondering where that choice went!
I decided that Google chose a stupid name in superphone. Because of that, I call the N1 the godphone.
Ok so I get a voicemail from my deacon at church. He's asking me to pray for a lady in my church that was rushed to the hospital.
Here's what he said:
Hey Tony, I'm gonna call Chelsea and tell her this too...umm Pray for, umm, Charity Lena. She's having to go to the hospital. she has chest pain. I'm gonna call chelsea and let her know too. We'll talk to you later, bye.

And this is what Google Voice transcrobe:
Hey Tony, Clark, what's up. Tony this to sounds great for Jerry Lee that she had to go the hospital, she's got chest pain and I'm so pleased for her. I'll, Michael Chelsea and let her know to. I'll talk to you later. Bye.

When I read it first, I laughed... then I got sad after I heard what the message was really about.
you can't expect it to be 100% accurate, the fact that it works well and better than microsoft tellme is enough
One that I got earlier.

It doesn't do well with people who mumble a bit it seems or those that don't enunciate very well. I know some people who leave me messages will never be close to the transcription while other are always transcribed fairly well.

All the transcriptions I've ever gotten have been unintentionally hilarious. Once in a while it's almost close enough to figure out what the person was trying to say, but most times not. I figure that Google included the transcriptions with Voice specifically for their amusement value; they're certainly not actually useful for anything.
I thought some of mine were mistakingly in another language
My point was that Voice turned what was supposed to be serious and somewhat sad into something hilarious. Most of the time it is in the same ballpark of the messages...but this one changed the entire tone of the message.

Any app which is like Siri?

Speaktoit or Vlingo. I use neither because it doesn't work well enough for me.
Just found iris. Not bad.
Iris? Never tried that one, I'll have to give it a whirl.
The iris app is still in alpha stage, but its an interesting start. To tell you the truth I just use the built in Google voice search which looks like might get an update with ice cream sandwich. Otherwise I know many people like Vlingo.

Iris? Sounds like Siri... Gotta check it out... Too bad it's just alpha
Are we all aware iris is siri spelled backwards.....oh we are ....good just checking

there's a great story behind iris: it was developed in only 8 hours during a hackathon last weekend. it's not very good yet, but it has a lot of promise.
Iris
Download Iris. It is alpha and at this point just for fun.
Vlingo is another option.
Or Google Voice Search which in my opinion is no different than siri.
+1 to Vlingo. Used it back when I had my BB and used it since I got Android. Voice search, dial, reads my messages while I'm driving. Love the ability to yell at the phone to wake it up and have it do what I need, totally hands-free.
i would be very supprised to see anythink like siri work properly on android. i;ve tried several apps mentioned here, and most seem far too laggy to really be of any use.... and that is if the app doenst crash on you. speektoit was insain on craching last i tried it....
i have my doubts siri actually works as good as the comercial, the jury is still out for me till i get my hands on one to test it...

ALL these apps ,including Siri, depends on Really good data connection... so, yes if your data connection is poor, it will seem laggy .... so far speaktoit seems really good (TO me ) , but like i said, they all depend on a great data connection... best be,t try them on a wifi connection ....
PS .. I take great offence with you saying "i would be very supprised to see anythink like siri work properly on android ".... fact is google voice search ,an app built in to all android phones, does all that siri does plus more, and it is well integrated into the OS ... the only difference is voice search will not answer you with voice ,but with text.. its been around long before siri just not popular ,but once again ,this is why Jobs and his products were so successful ... He didn't invent the wheel , but he knew how to convince the masses that he redesigned and streamlined it , and took full credit for its existence...
SO please don't put down the android OS, it is still young and growing, to the point that Jobs feared it ...

Actually I disagree if you use siri you will find it is much better than google voice search and cooler as well. I am not dissing Android, bit could u tell google voice search "will u marry me" and it will tell you that's weird.

Like I said ... The guy took what was already there and made it "COOLER " ,so now its the next best thing... its like video calling, doesn't sound as cool as "face time-ing"......
Back to on topic ... all of the above apps works great .. maybe even better than siri, but we will never know of siri bugs, because as you know, negative feedback about apple products never last long in apple forums or on the net ...

How is that useful for anything but novelty?
Let me guess: You have about 20 different sound boards on your phone, and a family guy wallpaper. Your ringtone is the sound of a fart. And you waste hours each day playing the "moron test" app.

Siri ONLY runs on a dual core iPhone4S. Siri would suck on a single core iPhone4. Siri needs mega horsepower and even in the iPhone4S it's laggy. The point is that if you try any of the Android voice assistants, the more horsepower you have to throw at it, the faster it will respond. So don't try and compare a single core phone and expect to be the same as a dual core one.
Well iPhone 4s with dual core and a little bit of multitasking ( if one can call it that) , and behold it has the same issues that other dual core real multitasking phones are suffering form ....
Look at some of the settings being turned off or tweaked, to extend battery life ...... siri.

1. Iris is pretty terrible, imo.
2. Vlingo is good, I recommend it.
3. You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Siri makes voice actions look like dirt. They aren't even that comparable, imo.

go to a carrier store and try a 4s. It works as well a the commercials. The fact that you doubt something that takes 5 minutes to test in one of 3 carrier stores (here) is laughable.

Additionally, the synthesized voice on android is markedly worse than on iOS or WP.

That's a good point. It seems really cool to tell your phone "put a note in a calendar that I have to prepare a paper due on next friday", but just try to do it when the lecturer, or your boss, or whatever, keeps talking Also voice activated sms would be hard to bear. Did I want to end the message with "piece, bro"? Hell no! Et cetera, et cetera.
