Evening ladies & gents, thought i already posted this but I can't see it!
I'm having a problem connecting my laptop to my HD2 using the 'Wireless Router' facility.
I've had a good search around and tried everything that everyones talked about:
-I've changed the name to 'HTC' and WEP key to '1111111111'
-I've tried the manual 192.168.1.1/24
My laptop can see the 'HTC' network, but when I go to connect, it thinks about it for about 15 seconds and then says 'Windows was unable to connect to HTC'.
Im using a Compaq CQ10-101SA netbook with Windows 7 Ultimate x86 and it has an Atheros wi-fi chip in it
I am currently connected thru the USB cable.
can you check if you selected ad-hoc or infrastructure on the Compaq.
I remember seeing this on XP or Vista, but I dont know where the option is in 7.
Is there no one else having problems with the Wireless Router facility?
I had similar problems. And solved them by disabling bluetooth on both sides, laptop and HD2
Same for me
Hi VinoKirk,
Exactly the same problem for me ... i've added the connection manually in Seven... but it do not connect automaticaly to this connection even if it is checked as "connect when in range"...
Seven is seeing my HTC but fail when trying to initiate exchange with it.
My windows xp is connecting without any problem...
Did you guys enable the Wireless N options in BSB tweaks or HD2tweak?
I had similar issues (network visible, but unable to connect) and disabling the WiFi-N tweak helped. Maybe it'll work for you too...
Grtz
Lukas
I had the same problem, I found that enabling ad-hoc mode for my wireless card let me see and connect to the HD2 router without any problem.
In Win 7, go to 'Network and Sharing Center' (left-click on the wireless icon in the system tray), then click 'Change adapter settings' from the left menu. Now right-click on the 'Wireless Network Connection' and choose 'Properties'.
Here you will see a 'Configure...' button, click this then select that 'Advanced' tab. The properties that show will depend on your card, but you need to look for the 'Ad Hoc'
settings - make sure you have ad hoc enabled and then you should be able to connect.
Hope this helps
Juste updated my drivers
Problem solved on my side .. i've just updated the microsoft drivers for my wifi card to intel one ... problem solved, everything is ok now...
Ad Hoc mode is on channel 11 on these new drivers
I also have a Compaq with Atheros wi-fi Win 7 - 64 bit
and have trouble connecting to Wi-Fi Router. My other Win 7 - 64 Dell links right up. My Win 7 - 32 bit no problem, only this Atheros. I have the latest driver, ad hoc and wireless n off.
If I connect to my home network automatically as usual and then try to connect to HD2 it will connect but no internet. If I turn off the auto connect to the home wireless network, re-boot, and HD2 is the first to connect it connects and has internet just fine.
I have tried this multiple times and always the same. Deleated and installed newly downloaded drivers.
Anyone heard of this kind of problem?
Thanks so much for your tip, Lukas!
I was trying today to use my HTC HD2 Wi-Fi router with my Windows 7 laptop, but I just couldn't get it to connect. But, when I disabled the BSB WiFi-N weak, it worked immediately! You're a life saver!

Hi Guys
Sorry if ive posted this in the wrong place (Admins, feel free to move it if need be)
Well... My old iMate JasJar (HTC Universal) died completely last night, so today I went and got myself an OKTA Boss... Im pretty sure its an HTC Manufactured phone, just cant quite work out which model... But anyway... Onto my problem
I regularly work out of the office and rely on my PDA for internet access, I used to use the USB Dialer for WM5 with the JasJar and it worked just fine.
Now the new BOSS has WM6 so has Internet Connection Sharing... But I just cant get it to work...
Everytime I connect it the icon in the taskbar (Im running Windows XP SP2 and ActiveSync 4.5) searchs for the IP address and then fails to find an IP, coming up with a error in a bubble:
"There is limited or no connectivity on this network connection"
ActiveSync works fine, as does browsing and copying files to and from the phone within My Computer, but Internet Connection Sharing doesnt...
Heres what Ive tried so far...
-Turn off USB Connections in ActiveSync (on PC, have to do this anyway or PDA complains)
-Diabled Windows Firewall (on PC)
-Disabled or deleted all other network connections and old USB Modem drivers (on PC)
-Turned off "Enable Advanced Network Functionality" (on phone)
-Tried 3 Different PCs and 4 Different Cables (all with same results)
-Yelled @ various peices of IT equipment in my house LOL
So any ideas on how to fix this?
If not then my Screen Name is living up to its meaning.
mabey the phone is not getting gprs/edge?
Make sure you close the ActiveSync when it try to start, you can do it with the X Button
or simply use the
Setting > System > Memory > Running Program
select ActiveSync and the click Stop
If you do this quick the internet connection will up if you let the ActiveSync run long enough it will set up PC to your device connection for data syncronization/transfer only with no routing to internet.
Hope this help
Maybe Your service provider does not allow you to use your data connection to share with the pc, try using pdanet that way you can syncronise and use it for ICS at the same time

Double Post Sorry
PRoblem short and sweet:
1 laptop running win xp
1 desktop running vista home premium
ATT 8525 running wm6 and rom ver 3.62.502.2
radio 1.54.07.00
Both machines update daily for updates.
So i use my ATT 8525 to do internet sharing, laptop connects and works great. I can even do some bit torrent downloading but it is slow
the desktop machine running vista will connect but the the internet sharing application on the phone will show a message "waiting on network" and vista will disconnect. problem happens in no apparent time frame and happens with all applications.
THis has happened on ATT 3g network and Tmobiles edge network so it has to be a vista problem. I know this is not a vista forum but hoping someone knows what the problem might be.
I've done alot of goggling and found nothing on this.
Thanks for reading. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
hm.. if i understand this correctly, you are trying to get both machines to connect to the phone at the same time? that will not happen because the internet sharing is only designed to share 1 at a time. i believe there is some router software for windows mobile that can get your connection from the phone to a broadcasted wifi. you can then connect as many machines as your device can support to the "router" ran by the phone. the tilt should be able to handle 10 clients.
another way would be to share your connection that is shared with the mobile.
mobile <-> laptop <-> desktop
connect the mobile sharing to the laptop and let the laptop share the connection with the desktop and connect the desktop with the laptop, not the phone. this will add significant latency but who cares if you want to use 3g data, its always slow. i cant think of any other way you can do this but give the second one a try first. its probably the cheapest to set up.
No, i am not trying to use both computers at the same time. i was just saying that it works on the xp machine no problem, it's the vista machine that is not working correctly.
Connecting with Vista...
Curious can you sync with the Vista machine... I suggest trying this (I have the opposite setup as you but had a similar problem... Desktop-XP Laptop-Vista)...
Under connection settings, USB to PC - there is a box that says "Enable advanced network functionality" I have to check and uncheck this when switching between the two...
For me (maybe different for you) I have to have the box checked on my laptop (Vista) but UNCHECKED for my desktop (XP)... not sure if this is tied to the OS or the hardware, but give it a shot. But this allows me to both sync and use Internet Sharing accordingly.
Hope it helps.

Well i have uncheck the ""Enable advanced network functionality" on the 8525 for my vista machine. So far I am staying connected even under heavy network load. We will just see how it goes.
Thanks KZIWarrior.

I've searched for related topics, but none are quite on point.
The following works for XP, but not for Vista, and I cannot figure out why.
(Note: I have the unlimited data plan, please use with caution if
you do not have the plan).
I am using AT&T as my carrier.
Using CeRegEditor, I performed the following on my Motorola Q 9h global device running WM 6.1, USB connector is connected from phone to PC:
1) changed HKLM\Comm\InternetSharing\Settings = "ForceCellConnection"
to "" and rebooted
2) In HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4...}\Connections,
changed ATT ICS and MEdia Net "ReadOnly" value from 1 to 0
On the phone itself, I then selected Start->Settings->Internet Sharing:
PC Connection = USB
Network Connection = MEdia Net
After issuing "Connect" on the phone, I have internet access when the phone
is connected via USB cable to the Windows XP PC, but not when connected via USB cable to the Vista PC.
====
I have tried Bluetooth instead of USB when connecting to Vista, to no avail.
I have tried to obtain a new IP address for the USB connection, to no avail.
I disabled Norton firewall, to no avail.
I disabled the wireless card I installed last year when my internet
connection was DSL with a wireless access point, to no avail.
The phone connects ("syncs") fine with both PCs. On XP, the application is called 'Microsoft ActiveSync', and on Vista, 'Windows Mobile Device Center'.
I appreciate any advice you have.
It should work. I am using Vista SP1 and a WM 6.1 cooked HP 614c. Even managed to use the data connection in a virtual machine running on the same system. As soon as you hit ´Connect´ the sync session gets disconnection (status in Device Center is disconnected). Then Vista should detect a new connection called Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device. When running it for the first time, a driver will be installed. After that it detects a new network which you can setup using the Network Center. Did this happen in your case?
Hey duckyman, thanks for responding. I do see the 'Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device' on the Network and Sharing center, but the connection is listed as 'local'.
I did notice that once you hit 'connect' on the phone that the WM Device Center application on the PC lists the connection as no longer connected.
This is normal behavior, however, as the same thing happens on Win Xp with the corresponding 'Active Sync' application, and the XP connection works for me.
I think the problem is with Vista. I will try one more time with Bluetooth instead, I noticed that under 'Bluetooth Settinngs' on the phone that though I had enable bluetooth, I did not check the box "Allow other Bluetooth devices to see this phone".
Have a look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407563
It works perfect on Vista and win 7
has anyone of you experience this problem? in previous WM version 6.1, once you paired the PDA phone with say your laptop via bluetooth, then you are supposed to go Internet sharing click on PC Connection:Bluetooth PAN, Network Connection: Internet, once you press on "connect" button, the screen will show "Connected" . Now you can go to your Laptop & press Network Access service and laptop would be able to access internet wirelessly via your PDA phone.
but now in HD2, once you press "Connect" button it will go into device selection mode prompting you to select a device..and it always failed to connect if I choose my Laptop.
Any advice what went wrong?
Btw, HD2 becomes so disappointing really, besides the SMS not-send problem, my HD2 goes into sleep mode & unable to wake-up when presson hard button..quite frequently.. sigh..
I've got the same problem. Want my internet sharing back please! Has anyone got it working, and if so how?!
When I pair my phone there is always a bluetooth peripheral device driver failure (have manually installed wmdc and the driver) so didnt know if this had something to do with it?
Thanks.
Owen.
Can anyone help on this please? Are other people's working ok? What software/radio are you using?
tried down grading to radio 2.05 but still not working
I have another kind of problem with BT sharing mode. Probably, it is on the side of laptop, but any suggestion would be nice.
On a WIN XP machine, I do the connection as usual, XP asks me for "Allow to connect", so I click YES. Then it looks like connected, I get DHCP, DNS, GW is set, but i cannot even ping the phone(192.168.0.1), not talking about any internet IP. Bluetooth PAN networking is enabled on XP.
On other laptop, WIN7 x64, the procedure is the same and it works!!! There is just one more confirmation on the phone, something like "Allow internet access to....?" I select yes and all is fine. Same DHCP, same DNS, same GW.
No confirmation about allowing access when paired with XP, probably because there isn't even a try from the computer(as it cannot reach even its own default gw).
BT file transfer works on XP without problems, just TCP/IP no-go. Maybe some firewall(win fw is OFF), hidden process, service, group policy setting...?
Hi,
I have found several posts somewhat similar to this one but actually none of them reported exactly my problem, that's why I dare posting a new thread.
After first use of my Touch HD in "Internet Sharing" mode, ActiveSync stopped working at all. Every time I connect the phone to a laptop with USB cable, it shows the option screen with "Internet Sharing" chosen as default. I can tick the ActiveSync radio button and then Done button but I get no connection. The laptop shows a new "local connection" with some private IP assigned but ActiveSync icon stays grey. The DiskDrive mode works fine but here also something has changed: HD does not remember this option as default for the next connection (as it used to before). I tried that with two laptops, same effect. Tried unchecking "Enable advanced network functionality" - no success. Tried soft-reset the phone and restart the XP on laptops - no success either.
I am using ActiveSync quite a lot, although in Guest mode only, for new software installation (many do not have CAB versions) and quick data transfer that does not disable all my software installed to SD card (as the Disk Drive mode does).
I guess (still not tried, however) that a HR would fix the problem but I think it is not a right way to switch between Internet Sharing and ActiveSync
any help would be much appreciated,
regards, Michal.

Hi Michal,
When you started Internet Sharing mode on your laptop I dont think that should have interferred with your ActiveSync. Internet Sharing basically turns your PC into a DHCP server just like a router - it hands out IP addresses (with a given range, subnet mask etc). Internet traffic can then be routed via the PC.
Check your IP settings on both your laptop on also within the connection settings on your HD. The IP settings on your HD should have a static IP address and NOT be set as automatically assigned, as you suggested.
As you have the same problem on two laptops I would hazard a guess that its the IP settings on your HD, try changing this.
Best Regards.
I guess there is a misunderstanding. I used my Blackstone as Internet Sharing device, not the PC. The phone was connected to the Internet via GPRS/EDGE and the laptop was using this connection.
regards, Michal.
