has anyone of you experience this problem? in previous WM version 6.1, once you paired the PDA phone with say your laptop via bluetooth, then you are supposed to go Internet sharing click on PC Connection:Bluetooth PAN, Network Connection: Internet, once you press on "connect" button, the screen will show "Connected" . Now you can go to your Laptop & press Network Access service and laptop would be able to access internet wirelessly via your PDA phone.
but now in HD2, once you press "Connect" button it will go into device selection mode prompting you to select a device..and it always failed to connect if I choose my Laptop.
Any advice what went wrong?
Btw, HD2 becomes so disappointing really, besides the SMS not-send problem, my HD2 goes into sleep mode & unable to wake-up when presson hard button..quite frequently.. sigh..
I've got the same problem. Want my internet sharing back please! Has anyone got it working, and if so how?!
When I pair my phone there is always a bluetooth peripheral device driver failure (have manually installed wmdc and the driver) so didnt know if this had something to do with it?
Thanks.
Owen.
Can anyone help on this please? Are other people's working ok? What software/radio are you using?
tried down grading to radio 2.05 but still not working
I have another kind of problem with BT sharing mode. Probably, it is on the side of laptop, but any suggestion would be nice.
On a WIN XP machine, I do the connection as usual, XP asks me for "Allow to connect", so I click YES. Then it looks like connected, I get DHCP, DNS, GW is set, but i cannot even ping the phone(192.168.0.1), not talking about any internet IP. Bluetooth PAN networking is enabled on XP.
On other laptop, WIN7 x64, the procedure is the same and it works!!! There is just one more confirmation on the phone, something like "Allow internet access to....?" I select yes and all is fine. Same DHCP, same DNS, same GW.
No confirmation about allowing access when paired with XP, probably because there isn't even a try from the computer(as it cannot reach even its own default gw).
BT file transfer works on XP without problems, just TCP/IP no-go. Maybe some firewall(win fw is OFF), hidden process, service, group policy setting...?

I have an O2 XDAIIi with 802.11b wi-fi connectivity and a wireless home network. I can connect my XDAIIi to my network access point router very reliably and also my home PC laptop to the router but I do not know how to get my XDAIIi and PC to connect to each other via the router. I would ideally like to use wi-fi rather than bluetooth to connect Activesync for synchronisation. Has anyone managed to do this?
Also, how is it possible to synchronise your XDAIIi (or any other pocket PC) with your home PC remotely, e.g. from a wi-fi hotspot?
I've done this, works great, but an issue is, I understand, that ActiveSync 4 and beyond are going to remove wifi syncing. Eeek.
But, for now, from memory, I think you just set ActiveSync to "get connected" over ethernet I think (the screen where you choose USB, Serial etc). I don't think you do anything special on the PPC, although I might be mistaken. You do have to manually start activesync and choose sync though on PPC.
I'll have to check my settings when I get home.
Re syncing over public wifi: the reason AS 4 removes wifi syncing is because there's no security in it. So public syncing, although techinically feasible AFAIK, might not be safe. But, caveat emptor.
Sorry for being vague, someone infront of a router can probably tell you more, this is just to say it can be done!

Thanks for your reply. It's really good news to know it can be done. It would be really helpful to know a bit more about your settings when you get home. In particular, do you need to allow your home PC files to be shared/visible? Also, when I open Activesync on my PPC and click Tools there is only the option to connect via IR, nothing else, even when I have a Bluetooth or WiFi connection active?

I wrote a dutch utility how to connect Active Sync through Wifi.
I hope you understand it.
You need ActiveSync 3.8.
And it's important that you create a partnership between the device and your PC through USB.
http://www.leukbellen.nl/activesync/
Good luck.
Yep, listen to adewidt.. connect up normally through USB and activesync as normal.
Then, stick in your wifi card and ensure you can browse the net through PPC. Sort this out first.
Then, check activesync on pc is able to use "ethernet" on the "get connected" settings page.
Once that's happening, I think you just load up activesync on PPC and choose sync (where it says "sync" about 1/3 of the way down the screen on the left, click that). I think it then tries to sync over the network, ie wifi. Activesync on your PC should detect this and get to work.
You don't need to be sharing any files etc, and is not advisable on publically accessible networks like wifi. Also, ensure your firewall is correctly configured. I don't think you need to set anything in partcular for AS if you can already USB sync, but ensure you're using a firewall always when wifi-ing.

Thanks chaps. Yes I did just about manage to understand the dutch instructions and it all works fine. Very happy :-D
I tried to use Trinity as a modem and did not manage to make this work.
I connect the usb cable. Start ISharing program on pda. Click conect. Says connected. 3G connection works. However the laptop is not connected to the internet.
Bluetooth also does not work. I can't find a way to create a PAN as they call it.
I would appreciate any suggestions as the manual is not clear on this topic
edit: i start internet sharing on my pda. i choose bluetooth. click connect. it says: Device setup finished. On the PC connect Bluetooth PAN.
On the PC i find my device. Find available services. Double click on 'Network Acces Point on Trinity'. I get a message that the computer is connecting and then an error: The Network Access connection failed: Could not connect to the remote device'
edit2: finally solved it.
I had to enter advanced bluetooth config on laptop. Under 'network access' properties I selected 'allow other devices to create a private network with this device'. Now it works.
hi,
i had the same issue, using bluetooth, but it´s the same, i guess.
you need to connect the pda with the pc, and when you get the connection, you go to the program menu in the pda, and select in the submenu connetions usb/bluettoth pan and connect.
the dial up connectiosn should start.
tell me if suceed.
i start internet sharing on phone. then go on bluetooth->quick connect-> network access -> my phone name. then it works as i mentioned above. but i had to change some properties in my bluetooth configuration to make it work.
The same for me : when I try tu use it as a GPRS modem for my TomTom Rider device, the Rider says that the DUN profile isn't provided as a service by the Trinity !!! Use to work perfectly with my old Magician !!! I'm really disappointed ! Will see if the brand new ROM with GPS feature corrects this...
try to start internet sharing first (in trinity), connect to gprs and then start bluetooth services discovery on tomtom.
I'm not using bluetooth, but trying to use the phone as a modem using USB with a laptop. It works, but is really flaky, so would appreciate some pointers on how to fix the problem.
First thing that I do is connect the phone to my laptop via USB. Activesync starts up on both the laptop and the phone. Then, when I start the Internet Sharing program, the phone stops Activesync and connects to the network. Everything works fine for a while and I am able to surf the net on both the Trinity and the laptop with no problems for a while. The problem is that after a period that can vary from 10 minutes to 1 hours, the laptop loses the internet connection. The phone is still connected to the internet though and I can still surf using the PDA. It's just the laptop that loses the connection.
I have to reboot the laptop and soft reset the Trinity to repeat the process to get internet on the laptop going again.
Any ideas what's causing the problem? I've tried disabling Advanced USB Functionality on the Trinity, but the problem is still there...
Hi,
I have found several posts somewhat similar to this one but actually none of them reported exactly my problem, that's why I dare posting a new thread.
After first use of my Touch HD in "Internet Sharing" mode, ActiveSync stopped working at all. Every time I connect the phone to a laptop with USB cable, it shows the option screen with "Internet Sharing" chosen as default. I can tick the ActiveSync radio button and then Done button but I get no connection. The laptop shows a new "local connection" with some private IP assigned but ActiveSync icon stays grey. The DiskDrive mode works fine but here also something has changed: HD does not remember this option as default for the next connection (as it used to before). I tried that with two laptops, same effect. Tried unchecking "Enable advanced network functionality" - no success. Tried soft-reset the phone and restart the XP on laptops - no success either.
I am using ActiveSync quite a lot, although in Guest mode only, for new software installation (many do not have CAB versions) and quick data transfer that does not disable all my software installed to SD card (as the Disk Drive mode does).
I guess (still not tried, however) that a HR would fix the problem but I think it is not a right way to switch between Internet Sharing and ActiveSync
any help would be much appreciated,
regards, Michal.

Hi Michal,
When you started Internet Sharing mode on your laptop I dont think that should have interferred with your ActiveSync. Internet Sharing basically turns your PC into a DHCP server just like a router - it hands out IP addresses (with a given range, subnet mask etc). Internet traffic can then be routed via the PC.
Check your IP settings on both your laptop on also within the connection settings on your HD. The IP settings on your HD should have a static IP address and NOT be set as automatically assigned, as you suggested.
As you have the same problem on two laptops I would hazard a guess that its the IP settings on your HD, try changing this.
Best Regards.
I guess there is a misunderstanding. I used my Blackstone as Internet Sharing device, not the PC. The phone was connected to the Internet via GPRS/EDGE and the laptop was using this connection.
regards, Michal.
Hi There!
I am trying to work out what I need to do to get my laptop (Win7 x64) to connect to the internet via my (hd2).
I have paired the phone, and initally it said there was a device driver missing. I found a link that said install windows device centre 6.1 and then specify the driver to be the Microsoft Corporate Bluetooth Radio device.
I can dial #00* from the dial up connection, I can see a dial up connection being made after username and password (left blank) and I am showing as connected, but there is an exclamation mark over the connection, and I can't surf or ping or anything.
I am missing critical information I am sure, but I am unsure what?
The best way is to open Internet sharing on the phone, and selecting to use Bluetooth PAN. Then, on the PC, connect to the HD2's network service.
Hi I am sorry, I am not sure I understand, do you have a few moments to provide some greater detail?
How do I tell the PC to connect to the HD2's network service?
Actually it's even easier on the HD2. Open the internet sharing app, select Bluetooth PAN as PC connection, click connect, and the Bluetooth manager will come up and ask you to select the (previously paired) computer you want to have the net on. Nothing to do on the PC, just set your new network as home or public when the popup appears.

When I try to pair my Viewpad 7 tablet / big smartphone using the method above, the HTC HD2 reports that the Viewpad 7 doesn't support Personal Area Networking. I presume that means the Viewpad's BT is DUN instead of PAN. Is my only solution to change my HD2 to a new/different/better operating system than WM6.5? Like, Android?
Hello All,
Here is my problem and I need help.
Situation:
Laptop WinXp is connected to Internet via cable modem.
Now I want to make access to Internet via Wi-Fi from laptop for WM 6.5 device.
I manage to connect and browse Internet with other laptop via laptop connected to cable modem –internet. WM device is showing connected to SSID but Internet doesn’t work.
Internet access via ActiveSync and USB cable is working perfectly but via Wi-Fi doesn’t
After many hours browsing various forums I couldn’t find any good working solution.
Any help is highly appreciated.
Regards and Thank you.

How can I at least connect WM6.5 using Laptop's Internet?
I have WM6.5 device (HD2) with no data plan. At home I can use wifi to connect to internet. However at work, I have ActiveSync 4.5 on laptop but It does not connect to Internet. I read somewhere that using ActiveSync WM device can use laptops internet, but I could not get it to work. Can anyone tell me how??
Intermittently with some setting change I was able to get internet only via Internet Explorer in HD2, and at one other time only in Opera, but never from any other Apps (like GoogleMaps, HD2 sense's Weather, etc). It could be when I tried InternetSharing on my laptop's WinXP's network connection to wireless Network or to LAN2 (LAN to Wireless or LAN to LAN2. LAN2 is automatically showing when my device is connected via ActiveSync). However I am back to zero now.
I wonder it has anything to do with Company's Firewall policies. On my laptop Firewall is turned off. But then I was not able to get this to work at home either.
I have the following settings on ActiveSync's "Connection Settings":
All six items checked.
3rd Item dropdown box has COM3 or DMA (could not figure out any difference).
4th item dropdown has Automatic or Work Network.
connected via USB cable.
Let me know what is it that I am missing??

Try changing the 4th item dropdown to "The Internet"
Try unchecking the "Allow wireless connection on device when connected to the desktop"
The 3rd item dropdown doesn't matter if you connect via USB.
Can someone figure out how to sync via WiFi?
Undoubtedly, technology problems hold you and your company back. That's not good for business and as such it's a great idea to get the problems fixed quickly. For several small companies, small business computer support isn't confined to one person within the company; rather, it is tech support that is called in.

I tried and that did not work. Is there any body who got this working, if not in company settings, what about in home settings??
