Does the current HD2 that one can buy from various sources work on the ATT 3G network with a current ATT SIM card?
No, You will not get 3G. the current phones do not have the 850MHZ that ATT uses for 3G.
You have to wait till mid to end of this month when the phone is out with the 850MHZ.
Where is this info from? if this is true I will certainly be getting the hd2. Will it be 850/1900?
The phone will have 850MHZ.
I have been told it will should be out mid to end of this month in Australia.
I bought my HD from there and will be buying the HD2 as soon as it is out.

From HTC australia. It'll come out for the Telstra's NextG network which runs on 850/2100. Since AT&T is overhauling their 1900mhz tower for the much faster 850mhz, the 850/2100 Telstra version is very ideal.
i'm kinda afriad of buying the HTC HD2 that will come to the US in the Q1 of 2010.
I have one question about it ,,, if i bought it " US HD2 " ,, is it going to work outside the US and work with other carrier like the iPhone for example?

Ok let's clear some things up. The "US HD2" is the T-Mobile version. T-MOBILE. What does this mean? If you're with AT&T and bought the "US HD2"/TMobile version, you can talk but will be limited to EDGE for data...no 3G. The HD2 is a quadband phone so you can use it to talk all over the world. Notice that i bold only the word talk? You won't be able to get 3G outside of the US unless the country/carrier you're visiting has 1700/2100 UMTS/3G band (which most don't). So if you're visiting other countries, you can talk all you want, but will more than likely stuck with EDGE for data. Period.
So let's recap:
1) "US HD2" = T-Mobile USA version
2) Telstra NextG HD2 (australian) = compatible with AT&T 3G
3) HD2 is a quadband phone for voice. You can talk on pretty much any country.
4) HD2 is a dualband phone for UMTS/3G/data. You will be stuck with EDGE unless you have the correct band.
5) Tmobile sucks
6) ?????
7) PROFIT!

Not at the same time. To use a carrier's service (data or voice) you need a sim from that carrier. So to use at&t data you need an at&t sim; to use T-mo voice you need a T-mo sim. The HD2 is not a dual-sim phone, so you can only have one sim installed at a time, and therefore can only be using either at&t or T-mobile at any given time. You can swap sims if the phone is unlocked to use the other carrier's services. I have no idea if the Telstra HD2 will be unlocked or is unlockable...maybe someone who is using a Telstra HD in the USA can respond to that issue.
Hope this helps.
so i take it that T-mo and ATT use different frequencies for their 3g?

Yep,
T-mobile use 1700MHz 3G frequency in the USA when most of 3G compatible devices (at&t) run on 850/1900MHz 3G/HSDPA freqencies
Hi,
I am a new user and I hope I am in the right place.
I just came back from Sydney Australia, and while I was there I bought teh HTC HD2 phone. WHen I got it it had all the Telstra crap on it and It was useless for me since I have t-mobile.
After I bought, I updated the ROM to RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.66.405.2_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.07U_2.06.51.07_Ship.exe
I had to use HSPL but I got it to work.
I just arrived to New York today and I could not wait to turn on the phone and see it in action. To my dispointment, I could not get 3G on it. The band and network are set to AUTO. The only thing I get is Edge.
I tried all manual bands and no luck
So then I tried to update the ROM to LEO_2.02.531.14_WWE_B28223\LEO_2.02.531.14_WWE_B28223
But it does not seem to work, no home screen just HTC and the windows start icon, phone and contacts appear on the bottom. Dont know whats wrong?? but perhaps some can shed some light.
Going back to ROM to RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.66.405.2_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.07U_2.06.51.07_Ship.exe for now.
Just want to know if I am on the right path?? Will this phone I bought work with t-mobile 3g service?
and what ROM is the best for this HTC HD2 phone and how can I get it?
Any tips would be awesome !
Thanks

That phone will not work with US T-Mobile. Sell it on ebay and wait for the US T-Mo HD2.
T-Mobile uses the weird 1700/2100 UTMS bands in the US, and pretty much only phones made specifically for it will work.
Crap'po'la
I was afraid of that. so I can use it, just wont get 3G
So no ROMS would help right?
Is there A ROM that is better then what I have now? I have RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.66.405.2_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.07U_2.06.51.07_Ship.exe
Thanks
hey richsark ill take it off your hands
Hi, well... whats the offer? on a 3 day old phone??
pmed........

Hi, The phone I bought straight from the Telstra shop was unlocked. I did put my SIM in it and it registers as TMobile but no 3G. ( I did this in the States) Over there in Sydney with my Tmobile SIM it was 3G !
My guess is the bands are not compatible. I am stuck with Edge I guess... unless there is a way to make it work
Thanks
TMobile will have a roaming agreement with Telstra which means while in Australia you will have connected to the Telstra 3G network using the 850MHz frequency, but as a "visitor". Once back in the US the TMobile network uses 1700MHz which the Telstra version of the HD2 won't work with.
I travel a fair bit to the US and UK for work so prior to the HD2 I had a 850/1900/2100 UMTS phone which covered me for AT&T in the US. Now that AT&T are moving to use 850 more widely the lack of 1900 won't be a problem and 2100 is used widely in the UK and Europe.
Hi,
I bought an x10 from 3 hong kong, fully unlocked. I brought it back to Canada and there's no 3G! I checked all the frequencies and should be all compatible, entered rogers APNs and still no 3G.
Is it possible to get the x10 to work on 3G on rogers?
No unfortunately. The X10 you got from Hong Kong is the international version and it does NOT have the correct 3G bands for Canada/US. You do get quad band GSM but you can only get EDGE. You would need the American version of the X10 in order to get 3G.
Yeah, tough luck. I'm still confused as why AT&T and T-mobile has different 3G bands. Rogers and AT&T use WCDMA 1900 MHz bands while T-mobile and what feels like the rest of the world (just kidding, but at least Europe too) uses WCDMA 2100.
Stop me if I'm way out of my league but my question is WHY?
And isn't it possible to just buy the phone from Rogers directly, cash?
Yea you can buy the phone from Rogers directly with cash but it is still locked. You need to get it unlocked before using it on another carrier.
Why do you need it unlocked if in Canada Rogers is the only one using that frequency?
that's the problem. i can't use rogers phones since i travel a lot. i have to buy a world phone of some sort.
I heard you can root your phone and change the frequencies. is that possible?
I was assuming Flamso might need it for AT&T or some other carrier. Also, it's not just Rogers that uses the frequence. We do have Telus and Bell now. Buy an X10, get it unlocked and use it on Telus or Bell.
Telus and Bell aren't CDMA?
I know Fido and Rogers are the same.
You shouldnt have a tough time selling that one here. Doesnt it support the aws band that wind mobile runs on? AWS 1700 i think

what color you have? I have a BNIB unlocked X10i white wanting to trade for a X10 locked to rogers
email me if interested
i have the luster white x10i from one of the ebay seller in HK, and it works with T-mobile USA 3G network. UMTS band is 900/1700/2100. Rogers are using 800/850/1900/2100. I dont think you could change the frequency as it is part of the hardware.
Is there a way you can boost edge speed? i can't load facebook or weather with edge. it always times
Cheapest Canadian X10 unlock: http://www.mobileincanada.com/?l=en&u=all&coupon=facebook $5 CAD
T-Mo US and AT&T use different frequencies because spectrum is regulated. Whoever has the deeper pockets can buy more of it.
T-Mobile & Wind Mobile use the same 3G frequency (Band IV 1,700 Mhz) whereas Rogers and AT&T use Band V 850 Mhz.
Telus and Bell Mobility are also now HSPA so you can use unlocked Rogers 3G devices on their network too.
Bell has a tool on their website where you enter in your IMEI and it'll tell you if it's compatible: http://www.bell.ca/support/PrsCSrvWls_GettingStartedGuide.page#4
Scroll down to: Q: How do I check to see if I can bring my phone to Bell?

the Hong Kong X10i version will support T-mobile USA 3G network. the UMTS bandwidth is 1/4/8 which is 900/1700/2100. I got my luster white from hong kong ebay seller, and it works with T-mobile USA 3G network. For X10a (american version) the UMTS bandwidth is 800/850/1900/2100.
so that's why they have x10i and x10a
hardware difference for the 3G network to link with.
x10a is designed for north america
x10i can link on at&t's 3G just because it match
Just sign up with WIND mobile and enjoy because the X10i is compatible with the AWS band (same for T-Mobile down south). But if you are out of their coverage area then there won't be any 3G service (falls back to GSM + EDGE).
The X10a from Rogers will work with Telus and Bell HSPA 3G networks once you have it unlocked.
it does not matter what kind of x10 firmware you have. if your phone is originally a x10a, it has att 3g bands that works with rogers. if you flashed it with x10i firmware, you can still use the 3g because flashing the firmware does not change the bands.
x10i will work with rogers but you only get edge aka 2g.
hi every one im thinking about buying a tmous htc hd 2 cause of the 1gb rom 576 mb ram , im just wandering if the phone will work in australia 3g , vodafone , i found out download band for voda is 2100 and upload 900
can some one shed any light on this should i buy the tmous htc hd 2 or t8585
thanks in advance
No, The T-Mo US HD2 won't work on those 3g bands. You want the t8585.
Or the 9193. which is the AU model that will work with ATT USA 850 band 3g

I'm very surprised to hear that your 9193 locks onto an H or 3G icon with Vodafone. EDGE, sure, but that's 2.5G data, not 3G.
The 9193 supports 3G/HSDPA on 850 and 1900MHz
The 8585 supports 3G/HSDPA on 900 and 2100MHz
Everything I've read about Vodafone points to them using 900 & 2100MHz bands for 3G/HSDPA.
band
i am using 900 2100
i used a cab to add more bands
BAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! ROFLMAO
You're an idiot, stop posting misinformation.
If you use Telstra then you need the t9193 model but if you use any other provider you will need the t8585 model to be able to access the full 3G service, I could be wrong but that's what caught me out.
I am on Vodafone and I have the T8585 with H E 3G & G bands via 900/2100.
gamecore is correct T9193 for Telstra, and T8585 for others eg Vodafone etc...
ok i am new to this but can someone tell me what's the different between
the
T8585 and the T9193 (i know that the T8585 is the one with the 512 rom) so is the T9193 the telstra verson of the HD2?
i am going to america next month and just to make things clear
(i am on optus)
if i want to buy a HD2 with the 1GB ROM it won't work in Aus ?
so should i buy the normal verson of the phone (T8585)?
if i just want to use the phone for call, text, mms (no internet browsing) can i get the 1GB one ? or would i still get the T8585?
so if i want the phone to be able to use the internet(not wifi) "on the go" and check e-mail i will need to get the T8585 right ? ( the one with less rom?)

STHD,
A brief lesson in mobile phone protocols, and which model supports what:
T8585 & T9193
Worldwide
GSM, 850/900/1800/2100MHz
GPRS, 850/900/1800/2100MHz
EDGE, 850/900/1800/2100MHz
T8585
Australia (Voda, Optus), Europe, Asia
3G/UMTS, 900/2100MHz
HSDPA, 900/2100MHz
T9193
Telstra AU, USA (most), Japan (I think)
3G/UMTS, 850/1900MHz
HSDPA, 850/1900MHz
So,
Both the T8585 & T9193 can use the following services worldwide, on any carrier that uses the GSM (NOT CDMA!) mobile network:
* Calls
* SMS
* MMS, assuming you have some sort of data plan supporting GPRS or better.
* Mobile web & email, but only at GPRS (data rates of 56-114 kbit/s) or EDGE speeds (up to 236.8 kbit/s).
The T9193 supports 3G/HSDPA on 850 and 1900MHz - Telstra & most US carriers use these frequencies for 3G data.
The 8585 supports 3G/HSDPA on 900 and 2100MHz - Most European, Asian and all other Australian providers use these frequencies for 3G data.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Mobile_telecommunications_standards for a heirachical view of the technologies.
Three key points here:
1) You can't (AFAIK) buy the T8585 model from a network provider in the USA. They will all be T9193 models.
2) If you're *visiting* the USA, and indend to to use the phone on Optus when you return, buy the T8585 model from somewhere in Asia or Europe (http://Handtec.co.uk is my personal recommendation). You can still use the phone when you go to the USA for calls, sms, and gprs & edge data, and get full 3G/HSDPA speeds when you come home to Optus.
3) Ignore the 1GB Flash ROM on T9193 model. The T8585 comes with an 8GB SD card - just install all your apps on the card. This has the additional benefit that you don't need to re-install every time you flash another ROM.
Make sense?
Phrak
So basically you need the T8585 for Optus.
If you get the T9193 for optus network you can do everything that the T8585 does but you wont be able to use 3G it will only be 2G or slower for web and emails on your phone.
ok thanks Phark that really help me out working out the issues
just to point something out from Phark post
T8585 Should be T9193/T-mobile verson
Telstra AU, USA (most), Japan (I think)
3G/UMTS, 850/1900MHz
HSDPA, 850/1900MHz
not picking on you (Phark) but just want to make sure everyone gets it or else it will be confusing (am i right?lol)
but another thing is that on the htc website it says that the aus verson (T9193) of hd2 uses "Australia: 850/2100 MHz" i donno if the info is wrong or what...
Also T-mobile and [HD2 US(from PDAdb)comming soon] have 576Mib of Ram which is 100 something more then T8585
So i guess i will get the T8585(Will get that in HK)
Haha and i really like how Phark quote *visiting* USA...but i am really going there Haha

hd2 telstra t9193 - Vodafone Australia
Hey Phrak,
This is the cab i used for geting the extra bands
http://htcpedia.com/forum/showpost.php?p=57342&postcount=6
is this the correct band for Vodafone Australia?
UMTS(900+2100)+GSM(900+1800)
If not what should it say???
Is there a hardware difference that the t9193 will not have the correct data connection? Or is it just software?
Interesting CAB - I've just found the same software built into the latest ENERGY ROM I've flashed to my Leo.
More research is needed methinks. I'm more than prepared to be proven wrong on the T9193 supported bands.

It it's not Telstra, then it will NOT work on AT&T 3G. AT&T 3G requires 850/1900mhz and the DHD's 3G is on 900/2100mhz
also telstra is 850/2100 so ........ it may still not be perfect if you import
I have the european hd2..is there a way to use 3g? I am only using edge service..any type of hacks?
thanks
might help to tell us what country and network you use.
I live in Canada, using fido network.
It will not work. The NAM (North American Model) HD2 work in America while the European HD2s work in Europe. It's a hardware thing. You can't just "change" it and it will work. You'd need to buy one that works on Fido's network.
find out what band they are using, probaly find it wont get 3g on the phone
