Showing Company instead of First Name in People Tab? (Sense 2.5) - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

For individuals I like to use nicknames in the Company field of my contact cards. This allows me to have my contact's full names in the card, yet sort them by their Company (or nickname). That is to say, for my father I would put his full name, but I'd like him to be sorted as "Dad" which is placed in the company field. This is happening just fine in the "All People" list and it worked just fine in the contacts tab of TF3D 2.1. The "company name" is also displaying properly when the person calls. However, the People tab of Sense 2.5 seems to show the first name regardless of what is being displayed in the "All People" list.
Does anyone know if this can be changed? I'll go sniffing through the registry when I get home from work, but I figured I might as well ask and hope I get a solution before then.

Custom Contact Fields

Hey,
Does anyone know if it is possible, through the supplied T-Mobile 2.26 ROM or third party software, to create custom contact fields? For example, say I want to have one contact called Papa John's Pizza and inside that contact have three fields named Anytown, Springfield, and NYC each with a number. As it stands now I have to either make a seperate contact for each location or have one contact and make each location say home, work, and work2. The latter choice makes it near impossible to remember which number goes to which office. I have many contacts that have multiple numbers that do not fit neatly into the supplied fields. On my old S60 phone this was quiet a simple task but I just can't seem to figure it out on WM5. Thanks for the help.
You can use IneSoft Address Book to add custom contact fields. The extra fields will be save as Note.
To mark a phone number you can put the text inside the phone number itself. E.g.
Work: +123456789 (Springfield)
or even
Work: Springfield +123456789
where "Work:" is the field name provide by Contacts application. You can use any character that can't be dialed (e.g. not a digit, * or #). Though some letters may cause problems, e.g. 'p' may mean 'pause'... I write my comments in Russian and therefore has no such problems
I use this solution for a long time. It is not specific to an OS or application.
And yes, IneSoft Address Book is good, not only for additional fields! This was the first application I purchased for my TyTN.

This would be really neat if Voice Commander 1.6 would recognize it, but it doesn't.

Prioritizing Called ID display for Multiple Contacts with Same Phone Number

I'm running 6.1 MR1 and sync my contacts with an Exchange Server.
I have a number of contacts that have the same office phone number, and I'm trying to figure out if there is some way to specify which contact info is displayed by Called ID when there is more than one person/entity with that phone number in my contacts.
For example, say I have individual contacts for the ABC Company, John Doe and Jane Smith. All three have the same work telephone number. When I get a call from that phone number, it could be John Doe, Jane Smith or anyone else at the ABC Company calling. Let's say that in this situation, my caller ID display always shows the incoming caller as John Doe. Is there any way to tell Windows to display the caller as the ABC Company information when it receives a call from this number instead.
I've embarrassed myself too many times thinking one person was calling when in fact it was someone else!!!
Thanks!
I've love to be able to do this too.
My problem is that I have a shared address book with all workers at my business with home as well as work numbers. My name and number are obviously in there. In a different book I have my wife's name and our home number. Whenever she calls, my name, as it's alphabetically before here, shows up first. I've tried putting a period or space before her first name hoping that it would move her up on the list, but it moves her down to the last spot of people with the same last name, and I can't change my name in the shared book.
If you're working off personal address books, I'd see if you can fudge the names so that the one you want to appear shows up alphabetically first. Then I think that's the one that gets grabbed with Caller ID
the other option. if you can edit your contacts. Would be to remove the work phone number from the individual contacts. That way it only shows for 'ABC' Company.
Thanks, Nec . . . I've removed the work numbers for the individuals as a half-baked work around. The problem is that some of them are favorite contacts (Spb Shell), so if I want to call them at work, I have to go through the directory instead of just using the picture shortcut.

People tab

I have tried to find if this has been answered elsewhere so I apologise if I have missed it.
Got my HD2 this morning and the first thing I did was update the firmware to 1.48.
Synced with Outlook and it has my contacts. Tried to put my wife on the People tab as a favourite. My previous phone would have stored her and I would have had to select her work or mobile number after selecting her picture on the tab. However, I see I have to choose which number when I add her as a favourite. That's OK - so I select her mobile number. I then try and add her again with her work number as a separate favourite but that deletes her first entry. It looks like you can only have one favourite per contact even if they have more than one number. Surely that can't be right? I don't want to have to create separate contacts for every number for my favourite people!
Have I missed something?
TIA

Choose which number you're most likely to call - once the contact is added as a favourite, if you tap the name (as opposed to the picture) it will bring an "action" screen listing call mobile, call work, call home, send message, send email etc depending on what info is available for that contact
Thanks for the help, Isadora. That's good as it means I can have more favourite people. The only disappointent is that it is a little more difficult to hit the name instead of the picture if you're walking fast or something like that. But thanks again anyway.

If you add "View Contact Card" then the default action for that contact is to bring up the action list where you can call them, text them, email them etc..
It's a bit more like the original people style that was exhibited in TouchFlo.

When you select which contact you wish to add to the grid on People tab a seperate window will be displayed ^ the phone numbers & the option to add contact card will be there. Good luck!
Great! That's just what I needed. Now why can't a 310 page userguide tell you that?
Thanks

How to configure 2-line Contact info in HTC's People/Contacts ???

Now that most of the HD2 big issues have been sorted, thanks to the XDA-Dev. team's genius and fantastic efforts, I've got a little niggle for which I'm hoping someone has a solution.
(Except for Friends), most of my Contacts comprise the individual's Name and Company, sorted by Company Name first, followed by Person's Name. SO with HTC's People/Contacts only providing only a single line, the person's name often runs of the end of the line when the Company Name is too long ... annoying and useless.
I've resorted to using Vito's FunContacts, which apart from an elegant UI, great functionality and nice graphics, gives me 2-lines of Contact Info ... which works just great. (Though it's glitch is that when the app fires up it overrides HTC Sense and kills Today and the Sense tabs - my work around is to start it with WM6.5 Today running then switch to HTC-Sense and keep FunContacts running and only minimizing when not used avoiding the app start-up killing Sense).
BUT to save memory I would prefer to stay with HTC's People/Contacts, which should be able to provide the same 2-line Contact Info - as per the "New" / "Add a new contact" and "Me" / "My contact card" at the top of the list.
My expertise and ferreting hasn't been up to the task of even finding let alone tweaking the contact s data format ... can anyone help me out. Cheers.

Ideas for handling contacts

I've been toying with some interesting ideas and I wonder if they already exist. Google Contacts allows you to add a nickname for each person but, as far as I can tell, it is not used anywhere. I would like the person's full name listed under People with their nickname either in parenthesis or in quotes [for example, Robert Smith (Bob) or Robert "Bob" Smith]. Also, instead of showing their full name when they call, their assigned nickname would be shown. When using the voice command, I would like to be able to address the person by both their nickname and full name. These features, of course, would optional on a per-contact basis and you would have choice for the format of the nickname and how you want everything done. I think a setup like this would be a revolutionary idea and I can't believe that Google or someone else never thought of it.
Common usage scenario: I have my mother listed in my phone book as Denise Dillard. Her nickname is setup as "Mom". When she calls, I want the screen to say "Incoming call from Mom." I also want to able to speak a voice command saying "Call mom" to dial her number.
What do you think about something like this?
