Questions about MMS & SMS - NOT RELATED TO LAG - HD2 General

I am looking for a couple of fixes. I have used search, but i can't get the exact answers. Any assistance will be appreciated.
1. SMS, MMS don't get sent:
If I send a message and loose a signal the message stays. The phone does not automatically send once a signal is found. How do I get it to try and resend on its own? I see the resend option, but I am hoping that is a last case option. Not the ONLY option.
2. All MMS messages have to be viewed in landscape:
It does not matter if a picture is attached or not the phone ALWAYS downloads a message. Even if the message just has links to articles someone sends me I have to wait 10-15 seconds to view it. It comes as an attachment. How do i stop this from happening?
3. CC: & BCC: Fields Gone:
What the heck happened to these recipient fields? Most of my time is spent on this phone sending messages. Especially for work. Is there a setting that I am missing to these fields are active. This would be a major setback to me if not.
Thanks.

Truncated SMS messages

Hi All,
I'm running 1.66.00WWE & when i send SMS messages to people sometimes only half of it comes through for them. The SMS's are not over the character limit, for example a 20 char SMS sometimes only comes out with the first 10.
Anyone else had this problem or know of a solution?
I've had this problem before. For the recipient, it's similar to that of recieving a multi-page sms which of course takes time to update on their phone.
I just wrote it off as a service provider problem, but if others have the same problem, maybe it is handset related.
Truncated SMS Messages
I too am having problems with truncated messages (just no text actually) on some occasions. Not sure if it is reception related or what. Can anyone help. I'm running latest versions of ROM on o2 XDA II, using an Orange SIM
In my case it was all or nothing. I ended up putting +44 in front of all my UK mobile numbers and that seemed to solve it -not sure if it is the same problem as you are having though.
I also had the similar prob before, and got it solved with the help of gazzaman2k. Try this out, this might do it.
1.) Go to Inbox
2.) At the bottom, Click Accounts, then Accounts again.
3.) Tap *SMS
4.) Untick \"Send SMS messages using unicode when necessary\"
5.) Press \'OK\' then the \'X\'
Let me know if this fixes it.
was supposed to POST reply to thig, but Gut_S beat me to it, hehehe.
YUP, unticking that SEND SMS using UNICODE when necesarry will solve this problem, and TELL your friends about it. SERVICE providers GAIN a LOT from this bug coz you might think your sending only 1 SMS but actually it is counted as 2 or even 3 mesages by the network.
cheers.

anyone having texting issues?

So i'm having a problem with texting on the g1.
1) receive a text from someone not on your contact list.
2) add user to contact list
3) reply to text message
4) text message thread name shows as someone else
5) text goes to first person on contact list
6) delete text thread
7) compose new text, (select that new person)
8) text goes to new person
9) text thread shows as the same person from as person in #4
10) person from #8 replies and you receive it just fine.
11) reply to that text, but it goes to first person on your contact list. You don't even have to reply, when you open the text thread, the top left name shows a different name.
I have 2 contacts on my list that is linked all funky.
I have tried deleting the contact from gmail and adding them again, but I still get the issue with them.
oh if you leave the retarded thread sms there (that is displaying the wrong name) and compose a new text to the original person #8. it sends an email to #8 (that #8 cannot reply to) but shows up in your text inbox with "(no subject)" as the message preview
i know you probably sound crazy but i've had that exact same problem but good job on the description
hbguy
i'm glad i'm not the only one. LOL
factory reset fixes the issue with that user's contact, but now I have to reinstall everything.
I had a similar issue where I had an email via mms sent to my phone monthly. Like, [email protected]
Once that came in - any sms I received (when I hadn't started the thread) would say it was from that email. When I tried to reply it would go to the first person in my contact list (Aaron for example) rather than the [email protected] or the original sending party.
Only way to fix it (and this is TMo's advice too since it's now a known issue) is to not get the email anymore and do a factory reset. (Haven't had the problem since then, but will be nice when it is fixed.)
Yeah, I've had this problem as well. Bloody annoying.

SMS timing issue

Hello,
I seem to be having an issue with the time stamps on my text messages. The ones that I send are okay, however the ones that I receive all have different times on them. For example:
If I send a text at 8:15PM and receive a reply right away, it'll show my text sent at 8:15PM, but the reply will have a back dated time... Maybe 5PM, 4PM... something like that.
Any ideas why?
Thanks!
I find this but its by no means universal. some messages I recive are an hour ahead others are not. I recived two messages at almost the same time & one of them had the wrong time. I can't wait for the new update to fix all of these little issues
I've seen this problem since my G1. It's still suffering from it, as is my Magic and my Hero.
I'm still having the same issue.
My received text messages show a time of 4 hours behind.
So if I send a text at 6:30 and receive a reply at 6:32, it shows 2:32 as the received time.
Does anyone know if there's a fix for this? I have updated to the latest (leaked) firmware, but still no luck.
Thanks!
Are you all on the same network? Might not be the phone because i've never noticed this

Click to collapse
Was just going to ask this... What network are you on, have you set network location to automatic by carrier, if so, set it manually to the city / country you are in.
I'm on O2 and have been using the network provided values.
I've set it to manual and text someone at 12:44. The reply came in a little while after and was stamped 12:45 so no issue there it seems. Strange.
I'm now getting issues now with texts in fairly quick succession.
The time stamps can be the same i.e. 21:17 but a reply from someone will sometimes appear before my original text in thread view.
Also a reply came in to one of my texts with a time stamp before my original text. This was displayed "correctly" as before my text, but the fact its timestamped in this way can't be right.
Anyone else seen this?
It's like the phone is looking at minutes for accuracy, not seconds. Also taking the timestamp of when a text was sent from the other person's phone as the time received to my phone. Hm :/
I get this on Orange when I receive a message from the US. All my outgoing messages are listed at the bottom of the conversation, while the one received from the US are at the top.
UK based conversations are all threaded correctly.
Ok thanks.
It never used to be like this so I'm wondering after prolonged use the sms database gets a bit corrupted somehow?
For me it seems to behave like this: for outgoing (sent) messages I see the time that is set on Hero. For incoming messages, however, Hero shows the time on the network provider.
I assume there is some header in SMS message containing the time, and Hero uses that instead of using the time Hero has when the message arrives.
I started using the Network Provider time (automatic) to get rid of this.

Can we have a sticky about the SMS issue?

There's a lot of topics about this, and a lot of conflicting information. A lot of arguing, and it's quite difficult to get the info you need.
I suggest that a topic, maybe even this one, be stickied with the current status of the problem as it seems to be the most common problem around.
After a period of successful use, SMSs will suddenly get stuck in the outbox and not send (to check, turn your messaging to traditional mode which will give you access to a folder drop-down) - no amount of resetting and retrying will send them.
HTC have apparently been made aware of the problem and may have a fix on the way.
Current solutions being put forward are:
a) Keep your message amount trimmed down - delete as many old messages as you can
or
b) install this cab http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/Tweaks/Zenyee-Disable-HTC-Messaging-82632.shtml (or follow the directions here - a bit more hands-on but the same result http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556614 ) to revert back to the default WinMo messaging service - a little less shiny, and doesn't have the benefit of pulling the contact name from your contacts when you get a delivery receipt, but is still perfectly functional and actually removes the slowdown from the messaging tab too.
If this is sticky'd, or if another one is made and sticky'd, can I also request that conversation be kept to a minimum and any info that crops up be immediately put into the first post?
Just to add to this with my personal points of experience:
* Normally you can tell if the message has sent if you watch it for a few seconds after you press send and it briefly flashes, though I still always check the Outbox folder to make sure.
* Sometimes when you check the Outbox folder it has messages from other folders (such as your inbox folder) which is wrong, just keep switching from inbox to outbox to get the true view of the outbox folder.
* An indicator for some people is that there is a problem was the volume bar not showing up correctly in the music player when music was playing, also caused stuttering in the song (possibly due to the volume keys actually skipping the playing track forward or backward with each press?) Normally when this was observed it was a tell-tale sign that the SMS bug has struck again.
Solutions (or more accurately, temporary work-arounds: think duct tape around a leaky pipe )
There is NO final guaranteed solution that works 100% of the time for 100% of people, however here are the few attempts that I know:
1.) WORKS FOR ME EVERYTIME SO FAR*::
- Soft reset the phone (turn it on and off).
- Go to your outbox folder (options, view traditional mode) and open the unsent message(s). Select all and copy the message, then delete it. Start a new message, paste the text and send again. This works everytime for me, though it is annoying turning the phone on and off.
- If you have whole bunch of unsent messages in the outbox then open up word/notes program and repeat the previous steps, copying and pasting all messages that were unsent in the outbox. This really really sucks if you have a lot of messages that didn't send, which is why I always make sure to regularly check my outbox.
2.) Another less successful (it seems) is to change your network to GSM only; mixed response, doesnt always work, or if it does the problem comes back again anyway at some point.
3.) Go in to the settings and add +44 (i.e UK area code or whatever your country code) in front of your SMS number (the network number) - again I tried this and did nothing, mixed responses but in my eyes does nothing.
4.) Add +44 to the beginning of every number in address book: did nothing for me I doubt this is a solution.
5.) Send yourself an SMS to clear your outbox: I tried this twice, never worked for me
That's it off the top of my head, to conclude though the best method I have found is to simply turn it off and on and copy and paste then resend freshly composed messages.
The problem may not be there for ages, then suddenly hit your phone, dissapear, then come back. With my old HD2 it happened about 3-5 4 times a day, with me turning it off each time, with moderate texts (maybe 10-20 max a day). I received a replacement HD2 today and after sending about 6 texts I have not had this problem but this means nothing, I'm expecting it to rear its ugly head at any second...
*Note that when I say 'works for me every time so far' I am not saying that this is a solution to fix the SMS bug, merely that it is a workaround (albeit not a good one) that has worked every time for me so far. However there have also been reports of people turning the phone on and off and the message still not sending, though this may be due to them holding their finger on the message in the outbox and pressing 'resend' which in my experience hardly ever works. Deletion and resending the pasted message seems to be the best way forward, apart from disabling the HTC messaging app altogether that is...

Weird MMS Problem

Initial Notes:
Using a rooted Verizon S5 with stock KitKat ROM (NK2), but this problem also persisted on a rooted Lollipop ROM (OA8).
This problem persists on the stock messaging app as well as all messaging apps I have downloaded from the Play Store so it seems to be an issue with the phone itself. I'm currently using Chomp.
------------------------------------------------------
Problem:
For the longest time, my MMS messages would come and go at what seemed to be the most random times, but I've finally come to notice that the only way I can get an MMS (including group texts) to send or receive is if I send more than 1 at a time.
For example, if I try to send my wife a single pic, it will hang indefinitely, literally for days sometimes. However, if I send another pic to ANYONE (including myself), the pic that was 'stuck' waiting to send to my wife will then finally send.
Also, if I long-press the stuck outgoing MMS, and choose 'resend' it will usually send, but then the recipient also gets 2 copies.
I've also noticed that when the stuck MMS finally does send, I frequently RECEIVE multiple pics or group messages from friends who sent them long ago. It's as if successfully sending an MMS from my phone has somehow unlocked a stuck setting somewhere in the network, which then allows all existing MMS to send/receive.
Also, I've noticed that if I attempt to send 3 pic messages, sometimes only 2 will actually go through. If I want to send the 3rd, I have to generate a 4th pic message also to any recipient. I've gotten to the point where I just decide in order to make MMS work, I have to do one of the following:
- Send 2 pics to the intended recipient
- Send 1 pic to recipient, and then forward that same message to myself.
- Send 1 pic to recipient, and then also forward it to someone else.
So I have come to learn that I do have a work-around of sorts, but it's incredibly inconvenient, and just flat-out weird to me. So it's obvious my MMS can work on this phone, but why do I have to send them in pairs?
Sent from my SM-G900V using XDA Free mobile app
