I flashed the CM eclair build and then flashed back my donut nandroid backup. Now I dont have the Market installed. Any ideas how to get this back? I tried reflashing the latest CM donut build but that didnt work.
thanks
The latest CM donut build wouldn't include the google apps like the market because of the whole C&D debacle from months past. CM doesn't include any more google apps. The fact that you flashed his CM5 build and then back to one of his donut builds means that you shouldn't have ANY google apps. If you somehow have all of the other google apps and are just missing market, then you need to find the vending.apk and push it using adb and reboot.
in the post where you got the rom for, under the link for the rom is the link for the google addon, it is the google apps like market etc., install the zip through the recovery screen, like you did the rom itself. it caught me offguard too.
go to the forums for g1 development and its the cm 5, would you like a pony

Hi, I am currently running Cynogen 4.0.4 on my rooted Mytouch 3g. I used the one-click method to root it. I also downloaded the 4.1.11.1 to my computer just incase. Do you guys think I should go to the 4.1? Is is the same? How do I upgrade and will I lose all of my apps if I upgrade?
I was also considering to just go back to stock because Cynogen got stopped. Will Cynogen ever be making new Roms? If not should I be going back to stock because I just want to have the newest features and updates but still have a fast phone.
Just one more question now about settings, I have the Hero keyboard but I activated the touch vibration when I type and now I want to disable it. Everytime I disable it I start typing and it comes back. How can I fix this? Thank you.
You can't upgrade to Cyan 4.1 at the moment as he has taken his downloads offline because of the legal dispute with Google.
I would recommend RogersRom 1.5 (see my signature) if you want a fast rom with Cyan's kernel, compcache, betterbrower etc. personally I would not go back to stock as the mods made by the devs here at xda are worth keeping.
Not sure about your keyboard vibrating ... have you enabled haptic feedback in Spare Parts? You might need to turn it off in there as well as in the touch input settings.
Haptic feedback is DISABLED so I don't know what the problem is. I will just uninstall and reinsatll the hero keyboard. And just to be sure Cynogen is done completely with roms? If so are there any other good roms besides Rogers that are not hero. And how do you install a new rom on top of the Cynogen one I have? Thanks for you help.
to change roms just wipe and flash over it. as for Cyanogen I don't think he's stopping anytime soon. check out his website..cyanogenmod.com
read his updates,
he's still in full force.
There are several ways to get the cyanogen roms =P... Just do some search =P...

push the far right button on your phone and type "Cyanogen"
install cyanogen updater for the market and it still works
Install cyanogen updater from the market and it still upload the new roms if you want cyanogen 4.1.11.1 you will have to change in the setting to display experimental roms he has a new one out but it not in cyanogen update i just did this and all my apps wallpaper and contacts are still there
I upgraded CM 6 to CM6.1 RC2 and everything went smooth, except when you turn the nexus one on there is no market or gmail from google as if they some how are no longer part of the phone.
When I upgraded I did it from the phone itself so when i was ask if i wanted google add on I click yes and once it went to the booting process and the new CM6.1 RC2 was running I could not find the market or my contacts I could not sync my phone to the google server...why?
Hum.....read the thread and find the link to Google apps. You will then need to flash Google apps on top of your CM6 ROM.
I know sometimes the Google apks fail to download in ROM manager.
So should i download the CM 6.1 RC2 from the phone since i have the ROM manager and not get the google add on and download it from a PC, save it to da sd card n then do it manually?...please explain...thank you!
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Download them both from the pc to sdcard .. then flash in recovery .. cm first then add ons
I just went to cyanogenmod website n i guess i was not da only one with this problem!...apperently you can no longer download CM 6.1 RC2 because not having android market or gmail...please if someone can help develop this ROM correctly...thank you!

Uh, I have no idea what you're talking about. CM6.1 RC2 is still available for download. If you still have it loaded, grab the GAPPS package from the wiki (link below) and flash it over your current ROM (no need to wipe first) to get the Market, Gmail, etc... back.
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Passion:Installing_CyanogenMod
I notice if you go to cyanogenmod website and click on downloads and then experimental and you see CM6.1 RC2 and if you click on it it says you can not download it anymore because it was reported as broken because not having Market or gmail.
On the same website if you go to forums and then see nexus one it will give you a link to download it from the links they have on that forum....so my question is which one is really true?
any ideas?
Considering I'm running CM6.1 RC2 with everything working perfectly, I'd say it's not a problem with the build....
Edit: I just checked the page - you can actually still download the zip. Someone just reported the file as broken, but that isn't a note from the devs (they have better grammar).
CM Roms haven't included Google apps in a long time.
Google asked that their programs weren't included because they are copyrighted material. Android being open, you can still download the GAPPS (Google Apps) pack and flash over CM's latest.
This has been the method as long as I've been on Android.
I got downloaded it from your xda website and it works!!!...now can someone tell me what is the mayor changes from CM6.0 and CM6.1 RC2? the only thing I can notice is the fm radio...anybody can tell me what also is good with this ROM?
By the way....I love cyanogenmod!!...much better than the stock one!...Keep up with the good work developers!
Anybody has some input as what is da mayor change between CM 6.0 and CM6.1 RC2?...i want to explore my new ROM....any ideas where should i start?

You could do a little Google'ing and find out...maybe a search for "CyanogenMod Changelog"?
Here, I did the hard work for you:

Ooo let me be another canadian to google that for you !

If your wife's phone is rooted and you install this, you will lose root. If that's not a big deal, then go for it.
does the update delete everything on your phone?
if so, how do u backup/restore stuff? and how do you get the apps/games u purchased back without rebuying?
any other issues to know about? does the update reinstall att bloatware? do i have to put it back to stock to update?
i rooted to uninstall that stuff and to be able to install 3rd party apps, but never used a custom rom.
i'd really like to be able to use my 8gb sd card for apps since i have no space, so i am thinking of updating now and rooting later once it's available.
Why does everyone pay for apps that's what 4shared is for :-D

If you are already rooted, then you should seriously look at and consider Liberated Aria FR008. This ROM is based off the European Gratia complete with HTC Sense and does not have any AT&T bloatware, has an OC kernel and also used Dark Tremors Apps2SD which is much better than the native Froyo App2SD feature. If you like HTC Sense and want the Froyo 2.2 features, then this is the ROM to use.
If you choose to install the AT&T Froyo 2.2 update, it will wipe your phone clean and you will loose root and you will be stuck with all of the AT&T bloatware with no way to remove it.
For apps that you bought and paid for in the Market, these apps are tied to your gmail account, so if you reset your phone, you can reload the apps from the Market without any additional charges.

Yes, flashing a new ROM will usually delete anything currently on your phone. If you are rooted, You can use "My Backup Root" to save your apps and settings, text messages and phone log and then restore them after you flash a new ROM.
Here is the official thread about CM 7 RC1:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=956223
Here is where you can download CM 7 RC1 and the nightly updates. Starting with Nightly 11 the code base is now Android 2.3.3.

is that the best one? issues?
i was waiting for this official 2.2 update for some reason, but now i realize i shoulda just used a rom. so i can backup with myroot (which i already have), but i'll have to reinstall the app before i can restore? reinstalling wont overwrite the backup folders on my sd card will it?
whats the best/free way to backup a non-rooted phone apps/contacts? mainly contacts?

Yes, if you backup with myroot, you have to reinstall myroot from the Market and then you can restore the backup. Flashing a new ROM will not wipe anything on your SD card.
For contacts you can export them to your SD card or sync them with your Gmail account. If you export them to your SIM card, the CM 6/7 ROMs cannot read them off the SIM card.
thanks
whats the diff between cm7 2.3 and the 2.2 you mentioned above with htc sense?
cm7 does not have htc sense? what is so special about htc sense anyway? will i miss it?

CM 7 is based on Android Open Source Project code. It is almost as pure Android as you can get UI and interface wise. You can still customize the UI with widgets and such, especially if you buy some from the Market. So bottom line is with CM 7 you can customize the phone however you like.
HTC Sense is the UI that is built into the stock Aria and now the AT&T Froyo update. That UI uses special widgets developed by HTC to enhance the user experience and these widgets only run on an HTC Sense ROM. Will you miss Sense? It's hard to say. It's really a personal preference.

thanks.
i dont think i'll miss it after reading some more on it.
so do i have to start off with the original update-cm-7.0.0-RC1-Liberty-signed.zip
then update to a nightly, or can i just start off with the most recent nightly? wasn't sure since they are about the same MB size.
also, what about this app2sd dark tremor thing. do i need that? why is it better than the regular app2sd?

You can just flash the latest CM 7 nightly, but you need to follow the installation steps listed in the CM 7 RC1 thread first (i.e. format system, format data, format cache, etc.).
DT Apps2SD isn't as big of deal if you are going to run CM 7 IMO. If you were going to use the Liberated FR008 Sense ROM I would recommend it because it does a better job than the Froyo 2.2 APP2SD.

Hello Jamie,
because of legal issues the google apps is not included in the rom. You can find a zip to flash in the official thread of that ROM, http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/11667-cyanogenmod-61-for-hero-v610-12072010/
Br,
Henrik
Reflash the rom. It comes with the market right? did you do your wipes etc? failing that, you can download a market apk i think from somewhere in 'general'. That will be the updated market anyway. I sometimes have to flash it as the older market doesnt seem to show all of my downloads...annoying when updates are avail. anyway, i'd say reflash.

well, show's what i know! i have had it where i've flashed roms and the market hasnt installed mind....
I recently installed the newest MIUI build which is running pretty stable for me however the latest Whatsapp is not installing (says it's incompatible...). I found this thread which tells me that I can install an old version of the program and be able to run it, however every time I open it, it asks me to update to the newer version (and surprise! Whatsapp doesn't "support" custom ROMs). Is there any way to trick the Market (or "Play"...horrible name btw) to install? Thanks!!
I couldn't did it in the market or restore it from tibu backup either

Seems like there's an update addressing problems with the Market...let's see how it goes!
google for whatsapp apk and install it manually BANG
rather go to whatsapps website on your phone and it will let you download latest version....
