HD2 disabling WiFi -> 3G autoswitch when idle - HD2 General

Hi, I am new to HD2.
Guess some one else have come across this problem as well. I use WiFi connection to check email or weather. I have email checker set to 5 min. When screen is on, it is checking emails using wireless and shows notifications if any new emails received. But when I put device away and it "goes to sleep", it automatically disconnect wireless but enables 3G data connection. I do not like this default behaviour...
How to disable autoswitching from WiFi to 3G?
P. S. deleting 3G connection settings is not an option...

Oppisite problem
My WiFi does not go into standby when the screen shuts down on my US T-mo HD2. I had this option on my TP2 and whenever I put the phone to sleep the WiFi would dis-connect and auto re-connect when it woke up so how do I get mine to do this?...Thx...Tj
NVM I figured it out...lol.

Mine is reconnecting wireless when I wake it up. Trying to figure out how to prevent it disconnect wireless, because when 3G comes in in standby mode, email checker is unable to update messages...
p.s. thinking what great phone it would be if you take hardware from hd2, software from n900 and put it together

At least a couple of the articles I read seemed to indicate using 3G actually drains the battery more than using wifi....go figure.

Do not know about battery.. but changing registry values from "0" to "1" didnt help wireless still off while on idle and 3G is on automaGically... uhh..

Here's the cab I use for that...I don't know if it just applies the same regedits that jfmckenna posted above, but it seems to work for me. It's one that I used on my TP2 originally, and when I tested it on my HD2 it does keep the wifi connection on when the phone goes into standby.

Nah, it's not the 3G that drains it. I would guess that these folks that are having problems are not near a T-Mobile tower usually.
Even if the nearest tower does offer 3G to 2nd-party connections (not likely, this would be a city-to-city agreement), the phone will naturally try and find a T-Mobile tower with 3G support.
This "tower search" is what drains the battery. 3G is much easier on the battery than any other connection, IF you can camp out below a T-Mobile owned tower.

if wifi is still not staying connected go to this thread and download HD2Tweak there is a wifi options and you just need to activate wifi and standbymode. This should do the trick.

Wow!! Now everything is OK with WiFi, many thanks!
Are there any way to force default email client configured with (gmail via pop3) to notify my about new email while in standby? Just like SMS notification.
I have special sound set for email and it works while I use the phone (beeps on new msg/email). But if email arrives while in idle, phone beeps only if I take it in hand and awake.

Tweak for GPRS Always On????

Greetings...any experts here can figure it out how we can tweak the reg to get GPRS Always On? Please advice...
ya...so i am
please anyoune give us some solution for that
thanks in advance
isn't it that when you sync your device with your PC, the GPRS gets disconnected? or is there also a tweak that automatically establishes the GPRS connection once you remove the sync cable?
Try http://www.gb-soft.cz ;-)
What is your experience with the battery life if GPRS is always on?
It's a little worse than with gprs off. As I'm having an imap-client running, my battery-life is down anyway & it needs the connection. I do shutdown the connection @ night, so I'll leave it open tonight & report the diff. tomorrow.
Cheers, M
GPRS will turn off automatically...after few hours...dunno why...
I need just a reg tweak to make it ALWAYS ON...
i know about thr Tweak Programme... but it caused problem on my PPC sounds settings...
so i would prefer just a tweak entry in registry...
HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\(GPRS connection name)\AlwaysOn = 1 (DWORD decimal)
ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\(GPRS connection name)\AlwaysOn
At me such section does not exist.
yea...too bad...i dun hv it either... :shock:
Strange I got it from an other post & verified it in my own registry. What is missing?

When in standby for 8 hours my battery life reduces by 3% when gprs is off & by 7% when gprs is on. That was the only diff during the nights I tested. So conclusion is simple.

like garikaa, this part ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\(GPRS connection name)\AlwaysOn does not exist in my registry.
boybi,
Sorry being unclear, I understand what's missing, but don't understand why.
Are you on a recent rom?
Cheets, M
my ROM is 1.11WWE
Could be cab or rom related. Maybe I got some time tonight to inspect some cabs I installed.
Hope it's worth it, maybe it doesn't even solve the original problem.
M
These settings a coming from the ext-rom cabs in rom 1.13, with this rom I got gprs always on by default.

Thanks for the information. For me it means no-go for the GPRS-aways-on. During an 8-hour night (or day), based on your figures, battery is down only by an acceptable 24% without GPRS, while by 56% with GPRS.
It is a huge difference. You have to charge your Magician twice a day, if GPRS is always on.
Uhm you misunderstood me a little. The 3% is total battery decrease in 8 hours, not per hour. Same goes for the 7%. So the relative diff is great, but absolute diff...is acceptable. & Yes I do charge once a day at least & more when gaming, browsing etc a lot.

Keep Connection Alive - Ozone

Hi everyone,
I ordered my Ozone the day it became available on VZW's site, and xda-dev has been the only place that I've been able to find any truly helpful info. This is my first smartphone, and the community here has been invaluable. Thank you all.
I have a couple of issues that I haven't been able to figure out yet. The one from the title - I use two apps; Pandora and WMtorrent, that time out - no matter what I've tried- when I start them and put the phone down. Especially frustrating in Pandora... I can only sing along with the first two minutes of any song now - very embarrassing at parties.
I am making an assumption about the source of the Pandora problem, I know it isn't supported on the Ozone. If I'm wrong, please correct me.
I've hunted around in the registry, but I haven't found anything to tweak connection settings yet. Any advice appreciated.
Also, if anyone knows how to set the phone to always use wifi when available, that would help too. I set Start> settings> connections >advanced to either automatic or wifi, and as soon as I get out of range it defaults to VZW as the preferred connection.
Lastly, the HTC ref name for my phone is 'Cedar'. Any difference worth noting? I'm looking forward to the cooked ROMs that are being developed for the Maple.
Thanks again for a great community.

I'm having an identical problem with Pandora except I find even if I'm surfing the web or making button presses within Pandora, the song still times out after about 2 minutes. That happens with each and very song but it will eventually switch to the next song if I let it sit. I'm on the Sprint HTC Snap.
With the HTC Dash 3G (T-Mobile version of the Snap) there is a couple registry edits you can do to keep the connection open.. perhaps there is something close for the other versions. Here are the reg keys foe the Dash 3G:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\
{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\
Connections\*your connection name*\AlwaysOn = 1
There will be two *your connection name* to look for one is Data the other Internet (Internet is usually assigned to WiFi connections or 3G)

Yup, that worked for me! I bet it'll kill battery life though. This must be a problem specific to pandora since none of my other streaming radio/youtube apps lose collection. Still... Many Thanks!
I tried this reg edit but it still cuts out. One time one song played all the way through, never before or after that though. I'm using a 3vo rom on the HTC OZONE for Verizon (CEDAR) any thoughts? I think I'll update to the latest rom by 3vo tomorrow.

I tried changing my power settings but it didn't seem to help, maybe I just need a clean start, time for an updated rom! Thanks for the help though!
I'm now running the latest rom from HTC tried the registry edit, rebooted my phone, and still my pandora cuts out after about 2 minutes. Any suggestions on what my power management settings or any other settings should be to make this work?
Thanks.

Solution of keep wifi on when standby

ROM Based on T|6.5|ROM|WWE| ★ EnergyROM "Leo" (23016) Oct 11 ★ Latest Manila 2.5 / Twitter Tab! ★ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4720931#post4720931
Step1: Turn off WiFi, then set value "never" in Settings-Connections-Wi-Fi-Wireless Networks-Menu-Advanced-Turn off Wi-Fi if not connected in.
Step2: Set
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\TNETW12511\Parms
Change value of HTCKeepWifiOnWhenUnattended to 1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\Suspend\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}
Change value of (Default) to 1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\Resuming\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\Unattended\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}
Change value of (Default) to 1
Step3: reboot and enjoy WIFI when standby!
I test it with my T5353 for many certain long enough standbys, it works correctly.
Note1: Do everything when WIFI off.
Note2: if no data transfer, WIFI still automatically disconnected for saving power during standby. So if you want WIFI always on:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\Suspend\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}
Change value of (Default) to 0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\Resuming\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}
Change value of (Default) to 0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\Unattended\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}
Change value of (Default) to 0
as I remember, in Advanced Config there is an option - after how much time to disconnect.
Do you know what it is about that ROM that allows this fix to work? I'm just wondering if this fix is specific to something in that ROM or if it's more generic (eg Windows 6.5.)
I've just tried it on the stock ROM and it doesn't appear to work (I'm trying to get scheduled e-mail syncs to work over wifi during standby.)
How is battery life with this fix?
Note2: if no data transfer, WIFI still automatically disconnected for saving power during standby.

Am I right in thinking that it willl still then reconnect if data is needed again (ie. every time e-mail is scheduled to sync.)
In Spanish Vodafone ROM (1.40.164.3 ESN), there is no such option as "Keep Wifi on"

As my test, "keep connection" means you open a software that need internet connection at any time, like MSN or Skype. I test data sync, data sync WON'T work (WON'T work means it can't sync data when standby, not means it can't make wifi on durning standby) durning standby if I only make such changes, even I open my Skype and I'm sure I had kept it online.
I find EnergyROM is different with other ROM, compatibility is much better as my opinion. So may be my solution only work on EnergyROM, but you can try other ROMs.
PS: WIFI won't make the phone obviously hot as I test for a whole night.
Good luck.
In an Spanish Official HTC Rom (1.39.412.2 (49068) ESN) it works like a charm!

Hi household,
Tried this fix with Stock 6.5 ROM on Rhodium. Unfortunately didnt work.

For 6.1 all that I needed to do was step 1 in your post with the replacement above. But now after every reboot HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\BCMSDDHD1\Parms\HTCKeepWifiOnWhenUnattended gets set back to 0!!!
Waaa I need help - I really miss having my WiFi always on!

bluetooth connection problems

Hi guys !
I'm opening a new thread because I would like to fix a bad problem of the neotouch that actualy is causing me many problems.
The neotouch has obviusly bluetooth connection but when the phone is connected to another device via bluetooth and the phone goes in stand-by mode, the connection go down...it just reconnect instantly at wake up...this is bad for me as I need to have phone connected also in stand-by mode..
I think that there 2 way to fix this problem, or we say to the phone to not disable bluetooth when stand-by mode is on or we prevent the phone to go in stand-by mode when a connection is up and running. Personaly I think that the second one is the easy way ...
So I have really no idea of how I can do this, so I hope that unforseenenemy, arto, netnerd and anyone that know can do this kind of things can help to figure it out...also a rafyvito's help would be appreciated...
Thanks in advance to everyone that get interested...
Hey mate, the answer lies as usual in this forum

Anyway i still hope that acer will fix the sleep issue.... it is really annoying indeed
yeh I have give it a try but it's not the best...I mean we should have don't sleep bluetooth !! Anywy I would ask something else, is there any way to modified htc bluetooth settings in order to not have stand by mode while bluetooth is running ??

yes device still go in sleep mode but if you tried to comunicate with the phone via bluetooth from an external device it respondes now ...without it doesn't
so here are a few updates ! :
we have by right now 2 method to use our bluetooth connections !
The first is a registry tweak and you can find it here :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Power\State\Suspend\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}
-change (Default) DWORD Dec to 1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Power\State\Resuming\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}
-change (Default) DWORD Dec to 1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Power\State\Unattended\{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006}
-change (Default) DWORD Dec to 1
this will continue to let you phone to go in stand by mode but will keep connection open so expect a low increase of drain battery ( anyway I have not noted much more consumption. ) this is thanks to Funky B.
The second way is use a program called "don't sleep" bluetooth that basically turn on bluetooth and disable stand-by at all for the device when the program is turned on. This has been created ad hoc from oldsap so many thanks to him for his job , you can find the program here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=483149

Change to GSM

Hi there
Am confused. Am running Manila 2.5 and have recently installed an icon set for the Comm Manager. Previously when I went into the Comm Manager the 3G option (which is labeled 'Change to GSM',)was marked as OFF (this was how it was when I first used the phone and I have never had a need to change that). But since I installed the new icon set, strangely, when I now go into the Comm Manager I notice that the 3G option in showing as ON (Green) and I cannot turn it off. I tap the On/Off button but unlike the Wireless or Phone options nothing happens.
I do not believe that I need the 3G functionality to be on (as it was not showing as such until recently, and as far as I know I do not want to 'change to GSM') when I have the Data Connection on, and therefore I would like know how to switch the 3G off (incidentally I can switch the Data Connection on or off at will)?
Can anybody help/advise
Many thanks in advance.

What phone do you have and what ROM are you running? If I understand your question correctly you are asking about switching between 3G and EDGE (aka 2.5G) at will or on demand. If so you need to do a registry edit. Using your registry editor go to "HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting" and change value of "ShowUMTSBandPage" to 1. Do a soft reset and this should do the trick.
However my question to you is why would you want to do this? You do lose speed because EDGE is a slower connection. Not to mention you cannot do both data usage and phone calls simultaneously. Only in a few instances could I see this tweak being truly helpful (aka being in an area for extended time where 3G bandwidth is extremely weak and cuts in and out a lot). The one benefit would be possibly better battery life.
Hope this helps.

Hi aybarrap
Thanks for the reply.
Have reviewed the situation and conclude as per what you have said that the gains are outweighed by the losses...so I will stick with 3G.

3G eats alot of battery, GSM all the way if you never use HSDPA (WiFi + WEP cracker ftw).
Anyway it's: settings (in HTC slider) > wireless controls (comm manager basically) > press on phone > scroll down to the bottom and choose BAND > change to GSM/WCDMA (3G)
Glad I could help. Just keep in mind that if you are big on battery life this is definitely the tweak for you as mentioned by ArtieQ. I personally use this tweak because my workplace gets low 3G signal and I tend to drop calls if I don't apply this tweak. Not to mention the battery life is eaten super fast by all of the switching back and forth. I turn on EDGE only at work and back to 3G when I get off.
