I didn't find the option to view contacts list from Messaging, Email, or Gmail apps that came with X10. So, it is getting frustrating to send message to multiple users as I now need to type few characters from each person's name to bring their contact information. The problem is when I have several people to send the message I tend to forgot who I already selected.
My question is, is this an Android 1.6 lack of feature or X10? For messaging I downloaded Handcent SMS which has the feature to select contacts from list like any dumb phone has. I am surprised several little and basic features like these are missing in X10.
I hate using apps that don't blend well with the nice Bluish interface of X10. So, apps like Handcent SMS spoil the rich experience of X10 but I have no choice but to use as selecting multiple users is very important.
yeah a little annoying I agree, but you can totally customize the look of Handcent you know right?? Just use backgrounds, colours, and fonts that match the blue SE Timescape theme.

I only see Sense or iPhone theme on Handcent SMS. Font's I can select System Fonts. I am trying to get the same dark blue background like in the default SE Messaging app.

I'd say try to set the backgrounds in Handcent to the blue SE ones included on the phone, like either of the two in "Wallpaper Gallery" you can choose when you want to set your Wallpaper. I'm not sure where exactly they're located on the file system, I just briefly looked and couldn't find them, but maybe someone else knows or maybe it's possible to download them online somewhere??
Furthermore, there's 4 different font packages available for Handcent on the marketplace, I'm sure you could find a font similar enough to the default one of the SE messaging app, then set all font colours to white and you're golden. Please post your results and if you happen to find where those SE Wallpapers are located, thanks

Thanks. Got it all setup to close very close in theme to SE's blue. I had to download the wallpaper from online as I couldn't locate the one sitting somewhere in the system folders.

Is there a problem with selecting more than one contact? I mean, I can send one text to different people using the default messaging app. Just compose a new text and write a couple of letters that the contact starts with then select it and write a couple of letters for your next contact. Works perfectly for me!

I have contacts with multiple numbers (home, work...etc). It seems there is no way to select the alternative numbers using the default messaging app.

That's the only way possible. But it would have been better if showed the contact list with a "check box". That is how it is on most phones and messaging apps. Having to type the first two characters is not going to be easy when trying to send message to several contacts as you need to remember who you already entered plus the worst part is if one of your contact has two mobile phones and the second is listed as "Other" number, it will never show up by entering couple of characters. You have to open that contact from Address Book and choose that number to send message.

Yes. This is a pain as one of my friend carried two cellphones. One work cell and one personal which he carries mostly on weekends. I can't chose his personal number from Messaging app. I have to open the contact and choose the number to send message.
I hope SE engineers are reading this forum. They really need to implement lot of these simple easy changes in their next update.

Oh, I see. Well then, I've only got one number for each contact. Can't help you then.

Hi,
I would like a more intuitive messaging application. Can the standard messaging application be replaced and/or disabled. Ideally I would like to direct text and mms messages from different people to be routed into different folders and to password protect some of these folders if possible.
I would also like to kill the messaging 'envelope' icon that is displayed when a new text is received. I never want to see this.
Any idead for any/all of these, the last one is the most important to me.
many thanks,
malty
I'd like that too...
Please help us...
Thanks

Ehehe! This looks like a one man - many women situation!!!
Anyway, to disable messages notification go to : Settings - Sounds and Notifications - Notification - New SMS and uncheck everything.
As for filters, folders and password i can't help, but if your friend owns a PPC too you could install Jgui ASMS (http://www.jgui.net/asms/) on both phones and use its encryption feature.
You can also try Smart Guard Pro: http://www.handango.com/PlatformPro...806&Ntt=smart guard&productId=185976&R=185976

That's kinda pricey...
I don't think it has the option of sorting incoming messages into different folders...
Did anyone try it? I don't want to spend $40 for something I won't use...

Does anyone know if smart guard is wm5 compatible? I've emailed the programmers but havent had any replies
InfoSharp or create your own with SKschema
InfoSharp does all theses things http://www.mycnknow.com/.
SKschema has many nice scripting tools but would be more difficult since you have to create your own scrips. But it does work nicely.

Question:
Does this program use default SMS location or does it use its own?
infosharp does this perfectly (after some poking of the settings). The manual isnt very well translated into english but you get the idea eventually will report back any problems as they occur
many thanks for the recommendation
Malty
Sounds interesting...
Is InfoSharpe a bolt-on for the existing SMS software in the phone, or does it replace it? If so, is there anything the standard software does that this doesn't?
How long is the trial period and can it be cleanly uninstalled if not happy?
Andre
it runs sort of parallel to the original messaging app so you dont lose any functionality. Im using infosharp for sms and messaging for mms/email etc. Infosharp obeys the rules you apply to each contact or group (or every contact) and one of those rules is to not display in inbox, which means it doesnt get passed to 'messaging' and the txt messaging icon does not get displayed, as i required.
If you dont have 'do not display in inbox' checked, you can carry on and use messaging as normal.
At the moment I have a few folders set up, girlfriend, mates etc and it routes them and notifies me exactly as i require. Some contacts have no notification at all and i only know theres a message if i actually check the folder theyre routed to. Some have modified notifications and some have the ordinary notification.
SMS can be routed to custom folders and be available in only infosharp or routed to the inbox where they are available to both messaging and infosharp.
as it runs in parallel i cant see theres a problem uninstalling. It doesnt seem to mess with any system files but as i havent tried this i cant say for sure.
Good stuff.

Are you able to create backups of all the folders? And does this program do it, or do you have to get something else?
Thanks
Luke
again its not something i've tried but there is an export / import function and also theres a file where i think everything is held anyway. (*.srm) They also do a program for the pc which can read the sms.
check the manual out here

Threaded SMS is nice but if I have 5+ SMS messages in my inbox, I have to open one, read, goback to the main screen, click the next unread message, etc.
It would be nice to be able to read the next unread message by click Next or a shortcut key.
Is this possible? Anyone seen an application that does this?
There is no native way to disable threaded SMS and I don't know of an app that does as it's very much superior to standard message collecting. If there was an app I would be surprised.
Threr are several SMS apps on the market.. I'm sure one will do what you ask - it's something that annoys me too... haven't had time to try the different ones though.
None of the 3rd party ones do MMS as far as I know, so I'm currently stuck on the stock one. If that's not important to you there may be one that suits.

Yea, none of them seem to have that option. The closest thing is SMS Popup. I like it, but it only shows the latest message.
I know how to send a text to multiple recipients, but it seems a long winded way of doing it. like selecting one recipient then going back into the contact list and doign it again.
On my Nokia E65 I could just go into my contacts list and put a check next to each name, very handy when sending a text to 30 or so people.
Is there a way to do this on Touch HD?
I face the same prob too... its kinda tiring if we have so many receipients to send to... one by one... even a low end phone can allow user to tick as many contacts at one go.. hope someone have a shortcut for this prob..
yep its a bit of a nightmare having to add contacts one by one.
what you need is something that will "Group" into your SMS composition menu.
something like this....
you can create new groups and add contacts as you see fit. then when it comes to composing the mail, just add the group you want. works really well.
i organise my 5-a-side games using this. dead handy.
This really annoyed me at first but I then found it a lot easier to just begin typing contact names into the To: field, and then using the auto list to select them rather than using the contact list if that helps.

Saves a little time, but if im sending to loads of people i might not remember their name unless i see them on the list first.
Show me the check boxes......
Try MassMessage (just check a box before each name, and send it to everyone you choose in the list) and SMSDRFIX (choose to see the number, the name, both)
can i assigne this mass message to the touchflo interdface so that launches when i click messages as opposed to the standard WM messafing centre.
I can only see it in in the start menu buttons.

In this prog you can only use groups for SMS. I have several categories (subfolders) in Outlook of my employees' e-mails. I'd like to send email to a group, not only SMS.
The other thing that bothers me is that the groups (categories) this program shows do not have complete database. For example, group "employees" has 20 entries, but only 12 show with this prog. Also if I choose "all contacts" it merely shows 10% of all I have. Any fixes? I'm using v1.4.8.
Ive downloaded and use Handcent and yes it is nice. The reason I looked for and started using it was because of the lack of add recipient option when composing a new message in the stock app that is included. I feel like Im just missing how to do this in the stock app. Is it possible? It seems like it would be the most basic option but I can't seem to figure out how.

Normally,in the stcok app, after you put the name of the recipient, you just have to tap again inside the recipient box to add another one. else if you put phone number instead of a contact in the phonebook, then you just have to put a comma between the two phone number.
You misunderstood. The idea is that I don't want to have to type in their name. I want to be able to choose from my list of contacts in my phonebook.
I think the only options now are separating recipients with commas or FORWARD the message to another recipient after you have sent it out. I prefer the latter since it doesn't create a whole new thread.
lol is no one actually reading the question???
I haven't come across a way to add recipients, I always just type the 1st 2 letters and add them from that, IMO its easier than scrolling through a list of a few hundred people
Open contact list. Long press contact then select send message. It then opens messaging app.

Seeing as everyone is misunderstanding you're request I will give you the short answer.. No.
You can't select multiple recipients from a list in the stock app, unlike handscent, where you can.

Hello,
Please have a look at the attached screenshot taken from the Samsung SMS app.
As you can see, numbers are underlined and if pressed it opens the dialer, and these numbers are not actually phone numbers.
I also tried ChompSMS (used to use it on all my previous android devices) and it acts the same.
So I believe this is not related to the SMS apps, it is related to a setting or something that converts numbers to dialer numbers.
Is there a way to get rid of it? I had HTC One A9 before that and ChompSMS never did that, even the HTC SMS app didn't do that.
Thank you.
Lot's of apps try to identify phone numbers this way. If it's not a phone number just don't tap on it. I don't see it as a real problem.
Thank you for the reply. Actually it has nothing to do with any SMS apps, it depends on the system, but I just wanted to see if there is a way that can remove the link.

I have similar problem, but still bad... the highlighted numbers (text) are in similar color as the background, so not visible easily.... please help
Though I am ready to install new app (preferably one without ads), I wish to do it by changing settings.
Note:
Changing an accessibility setting resolved it, but that makes it look bad
