I recently downloaded and ran an application, yes I have forgotten which one it is, that allowed me to add a quick link to my icons that allowed me to turn on or off the weather animation - this was a nice little feature...I would like to re-instate it but as I mentioned above it what ever gave me the link eludes me...call it old age...
Anyone able to shed some light on this I would be very greatful...
Thanks in advance
Scott
Co0kie's home tab has that...
MaxManila has it too, but it sounds like you only had a simple shortcut icon and not a theme.
Is there a way I can remove this application or change the registry to 'weather animation always on'? Every now and then the animation is turned off by itself (or by something I'm not aware of), I thought I had accidently hit the toggle button, but I'm pretty sure I didn't (moved it to a different spot on the screen so I wouldn't hit it when scrolling).
I have installed it with the Cookie home tab-cab.

choose the wall paper from animated wallpaper link not weather wallpapers (menu - home wallpapers - animated wallpapers -album and choose your favourite wallpaper and it will be shown without weather animations ) good noght
no i want weather wallpaper but without weather animation
There's a option called 'weather animation on/off switch'. You'll find it when adding a shortcut to your home screen.

The normal wallpaper shows the weather in the centre, but not the animation, so it does what you are asking?
It does show the animation, but only once. You can switch it off by the shortcut I mentioned above.
That weather animation shortcut is a part of Cookie's Home Tab. I don't think it is a part of the standard HTC Sense options. I use it, and it's great.
It is? I love it! I just got my HD2 and installed that cab almost immediately.
If you go through the 'Animated Wallpaper' option, amd select 'All' from the menu you then get all the wallpapers from weather, but without the annoying weather animations - only a small one when the actual weather app updates...
i am using elegancia rom and it has cookie hometab editor and cht editor. but i cannot figure out how to turn off this damn weather animation.. anyone please?
Hi all, I thought I'd share a mini breakthrough I had with Animated Weather performance on the Sense 2.5 home screen on the TP2. The animation is 100% fast and smooth if you DON'T activate any wallpaper.
I'm using the stock WM 6.5 South East Asia ROM with the stock Manilla version 2.5.20121225.0. I was recently forced to reload my TP2 after a bad application install required a hard reset. I immediately noticed how much faster the weather animation was after the hard reset. It was 100% fast and smooth. So I only made incremental changes until I determined what the cause of the slowness was.
As soon as I enabled ANY of the weather wallpapers, the performance of the animated weather dropped to around 70%. The problem is that there's no way to remove the wallpaper after you've selected one - you can only change it to a different wallaper - so I had to do a hard reset again to restore the animated weather performance to 100%.
Does anyone know if there is a way of removing the wallpaper using a registry edit or a file system edit?
I know that Max Manilla has a 'remove wallpaper' feature in it, but I've found that the weather animation is still only around 70% with Max Manilla installed.
Have you also tried to slide up on the homepage, to display the 9 quicklaunch buttons? That also gives a fast, and smooth weather animation, even with a wallpaper.
The wallpaper itself is not the issue, it's the elements that are on the homepage that cause the problem (clock, calendar).
I think you can remove the wallpaper in the registry. It should be in [HKCU\Software\HTC\Manila].
Yes I think you're right, but I also believe that the wallpaper is like an additional element that the animation struggles with. If I have a wallpaper enabled then I can only have another 1-2 elements displayed before the animation suffers. With no wallpaper I can have 1. the clock (with the weather insert) 2. the calender and 3. the quick links, all displayed, and still have excellent animation performance.
I'll have a look at that registry key after work tonight and see if I can find the setting to disable the wallpaper.
I'd probably say those "elements" like the clock and short cuts and email and missed call notifactions are probably more important to ...... everyone.... then having clouds float across their screen

What I'm saying is, you can have all the elements displayed AND the weather animation nice and smooth, as long as you don't enable a wallpaper. I for one, happen to like the animation

Thanks for the tip. I found out that if you've enabled a wallpaper and now you want to disable it you just delete these 2 entries from the registry:
HKCU\Software\HTC\Manila\CachedBackgroundPath
HKCU\Software\HTC\Manila\HomeBackgroundPath
Neither of them exist prior to enabling a wallpaper
So, is it smoother once you delete these keys ?

It will be smoother but you will lose your wallpaper
Another way to improve animation performance is to minimize the number of things appearing on the home screen. I recommend using Cookie's home tab to remove the quicklinks
That way you can keep your wallpaper, have smooth weather animation, and still have access to quicklinks by swiping up
(Actually the clock involves a lot more lua scripts so removing the clock would be more effective...but I don't think anyone would do that )

I have a better idea... removing everything from the main screen. This way it will be very very fast.
Come on let's be serious !!! If you remove the quicklinks and a few other stuff you'd better with Sense 2.1
If removing the wallpaper makes an actual difference it's worth it (I like having a black or dark one anyway...). Btw Valkyrie ROMs are quite smooth even with the wallpaper on (Just wanna see if I can get it even faster)

It's definitely smoother after you delete these keys. Even if you've selected a black wallpaper, deleting these keys will still help because it actually removes the wallpaper altogether, so there's one less thing the animation has to contend with.
I can't say if this is a good idea for those of you who have Cookies Home Tab or Max Manila installed. It works great for me though, on a stock ROM running Sense 2.5. Back up the Manila registry key first if you're not sure, so it can be easily restored. It seems there's no need to disable Touch Flo while making these changes - they can be made on the fly while touch flo is still running.
I tried this (deleting the two registry entries) on the stock Sprint 6.5 ROM - works great! Noticable improvement on the home page. Thank you!

come on dude...it's not like you will lose the quicklinks altogether...all you're compromising is an addition swipe
but anyways I myself prefer no weather animation, it's all up to the user

Man, same here.
It kinda irritated me in the first place having redundant information (to the weather tab) making Home tab elements harder to read, but then when I realized the effect it had on performance, it was GONE-dee.

Resco Explorer 2010 or PHM Registry Editor

Yes- it's called a registry editor, and there are a number of options (Total Commander, PHM Registry Editor, etc).
If you don't know what you're doing, though, be careful- don't start deleting things you don't think need to be there, and so on. You can mess up the system in a fundamental way.
Thanks for helping, downloading Resco Explorer, will let you know what have I done with it

After changing my clock to an analogue one (from the Fallout theme here), the weather animation is a lot smoother. Everything is a lot smoother actually, so changing the clock does wonders for everything really.
Holy crap! You're right! I've been irritated with laggy homescreen for so long and it's that damn clock! Thanks for the tip!
i think is not related with the clock but the weather icon which below the clock...when i use cookie home tab and i use "clock without weather"...my homepage weather animation immediate feel lot smoother and faster...
Any way to just dissable the full screen weather animation? i want the weather... just dont care for the animation that comes up on the whole screen.
I hoping someone out there could help me out. I'm trying to figure the path from icon to application that the icons on the slider have. Some icons on the slider, (photos & videos, sprint navigation, etc..) when picked, take you to a different looking version of that application versus click on the icons in the programs list. What I'm trying to figure out is, where or how do I find what application the icons on the slider are linked to, by path or otherwise. If you could provide me with any help, I would appreciate it.
Thanks
Sense 2.5? Cookies Home Tab Editor allows you to change what applications launch with some of the slider tabs (along with a bunch of other awesome customizations).
You will need to have both Cookies Home Tab, and the Editor installed.

I'm not trying to change the applications that the slider icons open, I'm trying to find out the path that the slider icons have.
just a quick question. i just got an hd2, how do you remove the clock and other widgets (icons/calendar/etc) from the home screen?
Do you want to remove all of HTC Sense (all the tabs) or just parts of the Home tab?
All of the tabs: Settings tab>All Settings>Today>Items Tab & deselect HTC Sense & select Windows Default
Parts of Home tab: Install Cookies Home Tab & edit to your liking.
i like the left to right scroll feature, its the other stuff i dont like on my screen
give CHT a try. You can have up to 4 screens for the Home tab & change around what is shown on there.
sweet. now, how can i use an animated gif as a wallpaper?

Not in combination with CHT!
