Earlier today I got into a discussion about CRT monitors with a bunch of nerds. We all spoke lovingly of the ffffffTWWAANGGGGGGG noise that degaussing makes and the general benefits of doing this action periodically to your screens. One of the gentlemen in the room mentioned that his Motorola Droid Evo 4g has a screen flicker and washout much like a crt that needs a degaussing.
This led me to wonder, "Why hasn't the dev community created a degaussing application for our phones?" After all, we spend dozens to hundreds of hours and dollars in modification to and accessorizing our phones. Why not take it a step further and make sure that the screen itself has an even longer life?
So who is with me dev scene? I'm to damn stupid to develop this application as my fundamental knowledge of how linux actually works on a ground level is severely lacking. I implore one of you randy fancypants out there: Please help nerds have that delicious fffffTWANNGGGG again.
Edit: I just realized this would be much better suited for general android application development. Can a mod move it?
hey matey, this would be a great idea, however lcd's dont need deguassing lol
althought it would be amazing as a screen on animation or a timeout animation lol
i can see why you want a degaussing feature but i dont really think its necessary and that's wiithout taking into account its impossible lol.
degaussing is he method of clearing magnetic interferance and other electrostatic interferences out of the screen that just dont effect a lcd screen which is one of the benifits of them
great idea though!!
Okay well that being said I think it would be a fantastic boot animation/noise.
of course ! that would be amazing, using it as animation and boot animation would be cool... have you seen the CRT animation for screen off and on, its on cyanogen mod roms its pretty neat!

No, it's part of all gingerbread Tom's and was made by Google.

ahh fair enough then sorry
SGS4g actually needs degaussing- mine at least
I tricked a nephew of mine to trade an old samsung S4g vibrant (tmobile) with a relatively new Galaxy Y. I wanted to play around with an older phone for tweaking experiments and I noticed after a month now (and 5 Roms and several wipes) that a shadow of the android keyboard shows up everytime the screen displays a white background. It does not show up on black though and it reminds me of the old degauss issue with crt monitors.... Is there any solution for this?

This sounds exactly like LCD burn-in. I don't think there's much you can do about it if the screen already shows ghost images like that.
A fake degauss would be a great animation for a FC, but since something is already crashing, wouldn't the animation have trouble playing smoothly, especially full-screen?
(Apologies for the junk post, but I'm trying to get enough posts to give feedback on stuff in the Dev section.)
Having played around with the boot animation I'm wondering if you'd (you reading this) would consider taking the time to outline what you think makes a good custom boot animation...
I'd love to put some effort into making quality boot animations of varying types - not necessarily what I think is nice or cool but rather, what the community would like to see. What 'you' want to see.
I'm open to any and all original idea's and suggestions. You'll get full 'concept' credit if your ideas makes it into a new release.
Let's hear'em.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vCYj3aiQE4 CAN YOU DO THIS?
Well I played around with the stock version but I can't get the zip under 14mb at 1280x800. Seem like overkill imo.
Also, it is kind of all over the place in multiple itterations.
I kind of feel bad now - having asked for suggestions and opening up discussion, just to put the breaks on the first idea that comes in ): I am sorry.
I edited my original post to include the word, original.
Don't be shy. Throw your ideas agains't the wall and lets see what sticks. This is an open discussion for everyone.

I would like to have triggers boot anim permanently. That is all. [vibrant]
If I wasnt throttled, id post a link for u to see. It really should be THE standard for all android devices.

I'm not rehashing boot animations. Sorry guys.
Just bumping back to page 1. Still looking for discussion - your thoughts and what you'd like to see.
Don't be shy. (;
How about an X-wing type craft, with an Android instead of an R2 unit, I don't think that I'd even have a cockpit, just an Android. Doing a final trench run, and as the pan out an apple blows to bits as the craft flys at ya.
If I had the talent that would be what I would make first. I'd love to see it.
Can you do this with the Acer stats?
MOD EDIT:
PLEASE UPLOAD A SMALLER IMAGE SIZE
There are already some faux-pc start up boot animations. I'm not interested in rehashing boot animations.
How about start with the iPad bootscreen then have it fizzle and die replaced by a dancing android
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
lol! That could be quick and easy to do.
Personally, I always wanted to design a simple bootscreen(not that I have any clue how to do it)of the zig-zaggy heart monitor screen flat lined and then slowly getting a heart beat back as it comes on...possibly if you wanted to, instead of the blood pressure and pulse rate numbers in the corners throw up the processor speed or whatever numeric stat you wanna stick there. Possibly even a little flashing android in place of the little flashing heart.
Either that, or just a picture of Steve Jobs' head on a pike...just kidding.
Don't want ANY boot animations.
Anything running like that will slow the boot down, even if it's just 1 second.
Why do people what all pretty pictures and fancy spin window animations when all they do is waste time and power??
ALL my anims are turned off, both the A500 and Windows 7 desktop.
Hate animations and fancy twirl-openings, page turns on book reader, etc

I don't believe this is the case at all. If it was blank, all you'd see is a blank screen while the system files and the OS prepares to launch the GUI. I'd rather see something than a blank screen.

As far as I know, there is no way to stop the boot animation except to replace it with something blank. All this will do, however, is cause the screen to be blank while the system loads. I don't believe it will speed it up. And the amount of power the boot animation uses it minuscule. If any, during the course of the average up-time.

Be that as it may - I think you've confused the boot animation with desktop animations. They are not the same nor interchangeable.
This thread is about ideas for what people would "like to see" as a boot animation - what plays as the tablet is loading. It's about fostering ideas.
No, I haven't confused desktop anims with boot anims.
All I'm saying is that ANYTHING the cpu is doing (including displaying animated thingys) takes up cpu cucles and memory. if it has to break off reading a file to shove the next frame to the graphics gpu side of itself, it has to take some time. Time I'd rather it used to boot up..
If I have to have a boot anim, I'd rather it be super basic, barely there than have a multi swirly 3D effect running.
"This thread is about ideas for what people would "like to see" as a boot animation - what plays as the tablet is loading. It's about fostering ideas."
I accept that, but my answer to that question is still "nothing", or "the barest minimum" - it's still an idea, after all, and a valid point.
Well nobody's going to argue with you personal opinion of boot animations. So... moving on...

I kid, what kind of graphics are used, format?, I haven researched...
P.S. Anyone knows where I can download virtuous picasso boot animation... It blows me away

You should make a boot logo based on what rom you are using.
Eg: If I have Virtuous Galaxy rom I can download a neat looking boot animation showing something with Virtuous Galaxy loading.
@gammaRascal - I appreciate what you say about not wanting to rehash your previous efforts but for those of us who drool over your animations it's rather like throwing a dog a juicy bone, no matter how good it is he is always going to beg for more! Would really like to see your "GR-Frosty v.2" animation but with the Android replaced with your new "geared" Android figure. By the way I have previously let you know that Frosty v.2 works beautifully on OTA 3.1 - still does - no lag - have you had your update yet?
Why it is there is no 'post' boot animation audio for the iconia. I remember back when the newer phones were dropping I was told it was due to a kernel config that prevented the D1 from doing it but why in the world would they not do it for the iconia?
I mean there are a ton of boot animations both of high quality and character... audio with it would be totally awesome.
Anybody know of a fix for the ridiculous amount of lag on Pie? Between that and the sad excuse of video recording, I'm really debating on going back to my buttery smooth Z2force. The only problem is this phone is pure eye candy, comfortable to hold, and my hands have betrayed my eyes recognition of the lag and fell in love this phone. . The performance is more like snapdragon 620 than 835. Any help regarding this situation would be highly appreciated
I have no lag on Pie, beta 3 or official. Sounds like your due for a full wipe
Well now that sucks considering I just moved about 90gigs to the device and thought I did a full wipe but just notice Alexa still installed. The funny thing is I had very little late lag on Beta 3.

You're only saying there is lag, you're not describing where you are seeing this lag?
The only thing I can say is I thought apps would open faster on this, I have a phone with a SD625, and between this and the Essential, opening and closing apps seems like the same speed. But the startup on the Essential is faster...

If I were you, I'd wipe everything, and then fastboot the full official pie update. Just to fully eliminate software.
Hi there I am the same boat like you . I got lag typing on keyboard scroll is not smooth at all .I tried reinstalling the latest build and factory full reset pus wipe all data .I can't resolve the lag I think they rush to get it in the same date like the pixel but is not optimised for this device for example get an icon and hold it and get it to place it in another location you will find out that the icon is behind when you move it
The only and I think temporary fix is by doing this
Go and click 5 times on build number and go in developer settings you will find there touch sensitivity set it to 10 let say default is 4 I think . You will improve touch latency a bit .
I just bought the device I don't know how it was on Oreo but I can say on this pie build official is not smooth
@mookiexl got to the Developer Options;
Windows animation scale - off
Transition animation scale - off or .5x
Animator duration scale - off or .5x
Also increasing the 'Touch Sensitivity' increases the scrolling speed.
Play with these and watch it fly! LOL
It would be great if someone can take a video so we can actually see this lag with our own eyes.
I just got my phone and it turned out bad, sending it back, new one on the way. It makes me wonder now if all the stories about bad hardware is true on these phones, since I've never had a bad phone ever in my life, then my first Essential turns out bad.
Wifi problems connecting
Statusbar icons appearing in white, turn all black
Phone speaker, bad quality, can't even turn it up, or it gets distorted
Head speaker, is low, volume isn't loud enough
Adaptive brightness doesn't work
Volume got stuck at one point when it was set as all the way down, no sound, then I wasn't able turn the sound back on, nothing would happen on either buttons...
So hopefully new phone arriving will be better, and from this experience, I think I'll keep it on Oreo for a long time, until people start raving over Pie.
And between a SD625 and this SD835, can't say I saw a big speed difference too... hmm

I hear ya brother. To be fair I haven't had any of those other problems I heard about before buying the phone besides what's mentioned in this thread. 3rd party camera apps with full manual control drastically improved camera quality for my device. If you want to see the lag I'm taking about just YouTube it.
As far as SD625 and Sd835, there's a huge difference for me being a power user. Lots of gaming, editing videos, download big files, or even just transferring data from internal to external sd you will definitely see a big difference in performance during any memory extensive task.
@mookiexl
Do you know any YouTube videos with the same issues you're having, you can show us?
I only found one for Camera Portrait Lag.
Fastboot install of 9.0 over the official July 8.1. Magisk root.
No device lag or issues with WiFi, volume or any of the things above. The only lag I see is my own getting to grips with the UI changes.
USOpen device used in the UK.
It sounds like you're both having some kind of install/integrity issue. Did you test the checksum?

All I've done since receiving the device is take all system updates and then unlocked bootloader which in turn wipe data. See the video I posted for details. If you have another SD835 device to compare it too try tha,t or better yet don't because it will make the lag very bothersome once you know its there.
That video is a year old. I have no discernible lag even with upward of 20 apps in the background, but I'm not saying that you don't.
Also, I had this and a Google PXL at the same time up until a few weeks ago. If anything, the PH1 was better, smoother and faster.
I've got serious lag... Keyoress lag, stuttering during scrolling. Could it be because of RAM usage? The stats in developer options say that I using 3.4 out of 3.9 gb on average....

Hi Guys,
I noticed Samsung included a nice futuristic animation that goes around the front camera cutout whenever you try to unlock the phone or take a photo with the camera.
I was wondering if it's possible to get the same animation on the OP6T, around the notch, whenever one gets a new message.
I understand there's the scare of screen burn, but i think if it's well done, it can look quite nice and solve the issue of lack of notification LED.
Anyone?
That would be really nice if someone could do it ! 1+ from me !
I doubt it bc 6t notch is not embedded in the screen like the s10... But you can try this....

I'm not sure about the technicalities, so i can't say much!
But when it comes to the apps everyone is using out there, they seem to hurt the battery life and are sometimes unstable, while this feature would be extremely slick and helpful.
Samsung also did it with a notch on their M phone, I think. So it's possible. I'd really love to see that implemented by OnePlus.
How can we get this to the attention of the developers?
fixed it
use the app KLWP and code yourself a good live wallpaper, worked for the notch of my pocophone f1
Is there a way you can share that and explain how you did it?
Why would you want something goofy like this, witch, since it is an animation, will take video memory, processing speed & battery life to perform? I hear people complaining all the time (not just Oppo phones) about phones being slow, poor battery life bla bla bla.
All that glitter/bling/eye candy comes at a cost.
I for one, turn on developer options, and set all my graphics to 0.5x.
If I wanted goofy animations, I'd buy an iPhone.
