Anyone experiencing any reception/coverage drops in the past couple of days? For some reason, I was getting a good 2-3 bars in my house, but for the last couple of days, I'm only getting 2 and sometimes none! Drop calls happen more frequently and I go into roaming way too often. Is there something going on with Sprint's coverage? I'm using fresh 2.0d and my PRL is 60664.
Yes. My prl is 60663, but yeah I've been experiencing intermittent service in my house (will drop from 5 bars to none for a minute, and then back up) Also switching between EV and 1x more frequently than usual.
Started noticing it a couple days ago. I am running Damage 2.07.2

Well, I didn't want to start messing with radios yet, as the issue only popped up a couple days ago and I've had this radio for nearly a month.
But, if we find that everyone that's having issues also has the same radio (which is the case so far), I suppose it could be the issue.

Good luck to you guys having the issue. Hope it gets sorted out.
i've had this problem on and off for a few years now with whatever sprint phone i have alot of variables can go into it i.e. weather, tower upgrades, amount of users on cell towers at a given time. can all result in a dip in bars intermittently ( however u spell it lol) this has been my experience. but i've never noticed an actual difference in call quality when it happens. hope this helps

Anyone else having issues with maintaining a data connection with Fresh 2.0d today? I am using the 2.32.40.11.09 radio version. Just checking...I am in the Memphis area where there has been a lot of flooding. Not sure if there is some type of outage or what.
Yes and no, I have flashed one of my heros to metro pcs and until I installed 2.0d I never had data connectivity issues, now it is endless, but again this is a flashed to metro phone, so I dont expect it to work right, now as for my other hero, I have 2.0d and left it on sprint's network, and I have no issues at all. Best I can say is try to revert back to stock sprint radio (they are posted on Fresh's site) or it could be an issue with your location as you suggested.
Turns out I'm getting crappy reception in general while at home. It's never been great, but not good. Seems to be way worse in the last several days. I called Sprint to complain and they are sending out an Airave unit. I have no complaints with Sprint. Their coverage isn't as extensive as ATT and Verizon, but it works for me and I've had good experiences with their customer service.

Most all comm links from the cell sites back to the switch, even those that use microwave relays, eventually make their way into the ground sooner or later. And the cell control units are at ground level (the little houses next to every cell site). Fiber break is the preliminary root cause.
im runnin 2.0d as well, nothin wrong with it here in vegas
UPDATE - - see my post on page 3, the issue is confirmed as a Sprint network problem. I'm in KC, no problems. Denver 2 hours ago, couldn't load this page without timeout. Call Sprint and demand it be fixed!
Update 2 -- I just got off the phone with Sprint this morning (6/18) and they confirmed the issue. They have lots of reports of problems in Denver and Colorado in general. They say the issue started on 6/13 and affects 3G, 4G, third party messaging, and data roaming. They're not accepting any more trouble tickets, however, she did note my account that I reported the issue was occurring since that time for me, and she said once the issue is resolved, I should call back to ask for credits to my account for the loss of data use. I would urge ALL of you to call Sprint today and report the same so you can get your account noted and get some money back when they fix this crap.

Hi there,
I'm having a VERY flaky 3g connection after rooting and moving to flipz and damage roms. I don't think it's either rom, instead I think it has something to do with either the radio flash, or with Denver's 3g connection in general. Anyone else having similar issues? I've seen at least one person using each of flipz and damage seeing that.
Any ideas at what might cause the 3g connection to get hosed? It will cut out during file downloads, etc...it seems like it can't hold itself for more than 2 minutes. It will still say there is a connection, but you can go to google.com in the browser, and it will timeout.
I've updated PRL and Profile several times with no luck, I've tried the old radio and new, both affected. PRL 60665 is what I have now.

I have a stock EVO that is having the exact same problem. Seems to time itself out after a min or so. My wife has the same phone and no problem.

Can you check and see in the software information if you have the same baseband and prl version? You might be able to help us figure this out. Thanks!

Just checked them and they are exactly the same, although she is now having the same issue. To be more specific, the 3g icon shows upload and download for a length of time (20 sec to 2 min) and then sometimes shows only the upload arrow. The upload icon flashes a few times and then 3g drops completely. Usually upon returning to the home screen it seems to reset itself, only to repeat once internet is accessed or application is installing.

This is the exact same behavior I'm experiencing. I've tried both radios, multiple ROMs, etc. The only conclusion I can draw is that it must have something to do with the PRL version, or the infrastructure itself here in Denver.

I have tried everything I can think of (short of giving up and calling support) and still no dice. The thing I can't figure out is what could have changed in the last 3-4 days in my neck of the woods to suddenly have such intermittent coverage. I have had Sprint for 10 months with absolutely no issues, now I can't even check out full websites. Makes the Evo a lot less fun for sure.
I dont think its just Denver. Im thinking sprint is throttling perhaps. Its affecting 4 people in the DC Maryland VA area that i know that have EVOs

I had the same problem in Denver until I flashed the OMJ rom. now works. Try it. Also 4G working better. No idea if the issue is radio or PRL or something. I will post my info screen when I get a chance.

Umm 4G? I thought Denver wasn't supposed to get 4G until July. I heard that Coors Field has a low power 4G broadcast from it. If you are receiving 4G, what part of Denver do you live in?

I've seen 4g by I25 and I70, but haven't found it anywhere else yet. It's definitely not down by centennial or parker, where I work and live.
Awesome find on the OMJ Rom al! I'm going to try it, and then touch base with flipz and toast to see if they have any thoughts as to what it might be.

I work downtown. Definitely the best signal I get is near Coors Field, but I have seen 4G as far south as Broadway & I-25 and as far north as I-70 & I-25.
Speeds are variable. Looks like they are getting all the hardware in place and testing. Hope it means that full 4G will be online soon!
No dice for the OMJ rom for me. I flashed it, and had the issue reproduced within two minutes of the rom being up. Hung in the market, and then timed out in the browser on sprint's powerdeck website.
I noticed that the upload arrow was solid throughout the entire time of the behavior occurring.
Well, shoot.
Just a thought, I notice on my sprint home page that I've used 3.5GB of data this month.
Could this be throttling maybe? I know someone else mentioned it earlier, but just noticed this usage amount on my own page. can others experiencing it check their usage as well?
meh

I'm at Lincoln and I25. However I'm now thinking this might be due to data usage. What is yours at this month per Sprint online? Maybe we can either confirm or squash that as a possibility.
631,500k data so far. I would think they would let us know if they were throttling, no?

Something's screwed. I saw 3. 5 gb used earlier on Sprint. Com and on the way to the airport, checked again, saw 500 mb on my wifes hero, 780 on mine. Calling Sprint tomorrow.
I will do the same.
I'm in the same part of town as kmartburrito and had this issue the other day with Flipz 0.2. I just restored my flash of Flipz' stock with the OTA update and new radio. I'm having no problems with that setup.
Haven't had time to flash anything else yet, but I'm planning to unlock NAND this weekend and check out Flipz and Damage's new stuff. After reading this thread, I think I might just leave well enough alone until things stabilize a bit.
Well I left tmobile because I was having terrible service everywhere I went. Low bars, texts not going through, dropped calls, etc... I pretty much forced them to let me out of my contract.
I have been with sprint for about a week now and everything has been going well until a couple days ago... I'm thinking it may be when I installed damagecontrol 2.3, the day it came out, it seems like ever since I have been getting really week signals in places I used to get decent coverage, on top of that today I experienced problems with text messages not going through..
I really hope this is just a problem with DC's newest rom, if not and if this is the sprint service that I will be receiving, it would be hypocritical of me to stay with them.
If anybody may have any clue as to what may be going on any shed light will be greatly appreciated.
I realize that I can just install another rom, but I doubt it's the rom...
I'd try flashing just back to stock to see if it fixes any of your issues. If it does, now you know! Otherwise, I'd give Sprint a call and complain a bit to see if its anything on their end.
I really wonder just how many EVOs Sprint has sold because I got my first network overload error today - and that's from Sprint service since 2006 - and I got it three times in a row before my call connected just to be disconnected three times more.
Sometimes, updating ur PRL does wonders for service. U can also make your Evo force roam. Look it up, it might be worth a try.
yeah update your PRL
Definitely... I updated to 60667 today and I saw data speeds above 900kbps since I got the device - I hit 1.3 down pretty consistently and I'm not in a high signal area...

No it doesn't.
I get great signal, I may not get great signal bars but I don't usually lose signal and i've had one dropped call in the year i've had sprint.
My DX seems to be dropping signal from 3G to 1X constantly. I'll go from full bars on 3g to 1 bar on 1X? I did the *228 option 2, I update my PRL often.
I'm still on stock 2.2.1 w/ root. Does anyone know what could be causing this. I've had this problem since I bought it in November.
Thanks.
I've had similar issues for a couple months now. Verizon tells me they are upgrading the Alltel towers here (east central Ohio). Every time I ask them about it they tell me it should be ironed out by the end of the week or some time the following week.

Also have this problem from time to time, but I'm on Fission 2.4.3. No idea what's causing it, but I may SBF and take it back to Verizon.
Yeah mine does this as well. Only fix I know of is to turn airplane on and wait a sec and turn it off and poof, 3G again.
I don't think it has anything to do with upgrading their towers though, it's likely to get you out of the store and to save them time from giving you a replacement. I can only think it's something with the antenna in the phone.
the update was supposed to also update the radio portion of the phone. Did you get the update?
The baseband I have BP_C_01.09.07P This may vary by geographic area.
I had this issue when on the stock ROM, but it has not happened in the weeks since going to the 320 leak and now to the 340 OTA.

For the past week or so I have suddenly had terrible reception while at work. My signal seems to constantly bounce between 6 bars and 0 bars...then to roaming which behaves the exact same way...then back to sprint. I have tried upgrading and downgrading the Radio/Wimax/etc and I always seem to get the same results. Sometimes my phone shows full coverage but when I call it just rings and rings without ever actually ringing on my phone. I was originally on MikG 3.0, then moved to Sprint Rooted OTA, now I'm using Team Nocturnal Stock ICS themed. At first I thought it was an issue with the update or radio but since I have reverted to older versions of both the radio and gingerbread itself and the issue persists I'm at a loss. I am told that no towers were removed or anything.
It could be a hardware issue. A friend of mine who also has an Evo had that happen. When he took it to the Sprint store they told him it was an issue with the antennae having somehow disconnected within the phone. So if anything I'd suggest try taking it to them for this.
Solar flare That was announced earlier this week? both my evo and Co workers white evo and fiancees evo shift been acting up all week. ie, being stuck on 1x or roaming where we usually get no issues. Just a thought?

I would say def hardware, take it to a store so they can check the antenna. Might just switch it out.

Haha....I gotta say I started laughing when I read this. Then I started to realize that today my reception is back to its usual fantastic state. I've been playing with it all morning and I have yet to get terrible reception or roaming. Coincidentally the effects of the solar flare have just dissipated I believe. Granted it seems like very few people had this problem and I would think if it was the solar flare it would have affected far more people but I can't deny the possiblity.
I'm having the 1x issue right now on my Evo.. started a couple of days ago. I'm in Yuma AZ
Hmm well if your issue is anything like mine hopefully it will fix itself shortly. Have you tried updating your PRL or the radio software itself? Granted those things did nothing for me but perhaps you will get different results.
Network overload?
Had 1X for 2-3 days and it drove me crazy. Spoiled I guess. All of a sudden phone went back to 3G last night. I am now settled back into reality and my need for speed.

I am having this exact issue, and have not been able to figure out what's causing it. I'm rooted running the latest Evo Classic v.0.0.6 by tommytomatoe. I've updated my profile and PRL.
Oddly enough my web speeds seem fine, but whenever I'm on a call they sound choppy, and eventually I get disconnected. When I watch my signal bars it hops around from 4-5 to 0 every 15 seconds or so. Up to this point I've never had any problems, and always had a great signal.
Is it time to un-root my phone and take it in to RS or the Sprint store? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.
I hate to post again, but I'm still quite lost as to what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
