Can't adjust brightness - HD2 General

Ok I was using spbTV and all of a sudden the screen got darker and every since then i haven't been able to brighten it.
It's only a problem when im plugged in.
I try to goto brightness on the backlight settings but power supply brightness isn't there, i can only adjust battery brightness.
I've already soft reset, removed SpbTv and still have the issue.

backup you contacts and whatnot then perform a hard reset

Same problem

Looks like this app is breaking our HD2s. SPB is a great company, I'm sure they will try and work out a fix if you let them know what happened.
Is this happening to anyone else using a different app?

I had the same thing happen to me. I had to do a factory reset. I could not find any way of bringing it back from that. I guess the guys at SPB didnt test it out on the HD2. They should be fixing it soon. I wondered if I was running spb mobile shell if it would have done the same!!?

i had the same problem i figured out how to fix it!
go to the registry
hkey current user
controlpanel
backlight
change acbrightness to 10
and
brightness to 10
save and exit
its fixed
now you have your sliders back
enjoy!

Thanks for that info radiohead7778580, it worked perfectly.
BIOYAM.

Thanks!!
I knew it was something in the registry but I'm far from an expert so I didnt want to go poking around in there. You saved me a reset. Thanks again

no problem glad i can help

All praise to you my friend! I had the same issue using SPB shell. Fixed perfectly! Thankss a million.

For those who do not want to mess with the Registry, I've added the Registry Settings into an easy to install CAB file. Just install to main memory and your Brightness sliders will be returned.
This sets your brightness to FULL (10) on both battery and AC power, so be sure to go in and adjust accordingly for your preferences.

Disable Screen Alignment

Is there a way to disable te screen alignment utility on the QTEK 2020? I mean the welcome.exe that runs when your battery was empty or when you do a reset?
I'm searching my ass off but i'm not finding anything.
I think it would require i OS ROM modification since it is "factory" clean if you loose the power. Extended rom customization kicks in after the screen calibration.
It´s a painfull process to calibrate but ít´s an even more painfull experience with a non calibrated screen
/Regards
Would you really notice it if you wouldn't calibrate the screen? Would be the same like not calibrating a joystick on a PC? If you don't do that you always keep moving because the joystick thinks it's not centered.
I'm just thinking here, during the calibration, would there be anything saved to the registry, of the calibration, because then i would be able to export it to a .reg file and let it be imported during the extended rom customization?
I gonne search some more...
Why all the effort to avoid the calibration? After all you are only forced to do it after a hard reset and the time it takes is minimal compared to the following Extended ROM installation. I can't see why it's such a big deal :?
because i have more than 1 PDA to configure

Because it is a great hassle to have it always appeared when you press your Joystick and Calendar hotkey together. And I need these buttons when I play some games or use Sega/Atari and other emulators ((
because it's a touch screen it's much more troublesome not to calibrate
i mean a joystick if no callibrated will wander but a touch screen will not know where or what you are pressing on with the stylus or finger
the alignment isn't a problem for me. just the stupid copy/paste tutorial is a nuisance. But unfortenately it is in the OS. In the beginning developers here tried to make a custom welcome.exe but they gave up. The effort was too much for the benefits.
Great! I didnt know about the joy + calendar button :-D
Rey, my guess is that calibration is device individual so they cant be copied. But using the joy+cal trick at a later stage makes removing it in the OS ROM much more interesting.
oh well, at least i found out how to automaticly get the GMT zone in, so i can just click next and don't have to scroll
For those who are intrested:
Fill in the setting, i have it on GMT +1, then go to your registry editor and export the following value out of the registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Time]
TimeZoneInformation
save somewhere and put it an a the EXTENDED_ROM in a .CAB that auto installes, i put in in the IIWPO.CAB in platformxxx.reg works for me
Restorator

Try Restorator utility (search this forum on: restorator) for individual and multiple setups. Works for me! Thanks to SP!
Unfortunately, it doesn't solve our alignment issue
Dunno if it can help..but I remember ..some cooked ROMs for XDA1 haven't got this Copy-Paste procedure.. some programmer have removed it.
So,try to search for it..

Curious behaviour after hard reset

Hallo community,
my Ameo showed some problems since yesterday:
The Screen brightness when running on battery couldn't be adjusted anymore. It stayed always to lowest level.
Soft reset didn't work, had to perform a hard reset therfore.
Now there occured some curious things:
When choosing "Einstellungen (settings) - System - Beleuchtung (Illumination ?) - Helligkeit (Brightness ?)" I can only adjust "Energiesparmodus (Energy saving modus ?)". Until hard reset I had had two settings "Battery" and another for a connected modus.
Another thing:
When choosing "Einstellungen (settings) - Persönlich (personal ?) - Menüs(menues ?)" there are some menu items twice. It is "web'n'walk", "Nachrichten" and "Tray Display". "Web'n'walk" and "Nachrichten" are both ticked and I cant untick them to remove from startmenu.
How to remove these double items from the menu and how to untick these unnecessary items ?
Dieter
Sounds like a good time for a second hard reset.
Did you restore settings from a backup thew first time? That could be it.
I did have some "baby growing up" issues with my Athena the first go around. I tested, re-tested and generally <censored> around with it.
After I had to hard reset, and I tried to remember what worked, and what didn't.
Keep in mind, nothing works perfect but things can be worked around.
Had the same problem and this post from Daryl Mushtaq solved it for me!
-----------------------------------
hi Devany
not sure if you managed to find a resolution but i too had a similar problem.
i think mine was caused by phonemanager (which i have since uninstalled)
i found that when on battery power the slider in backlight settings did absolutely nothing. the only time the backlight would become brighter was when the alarm was going off.
searching throught the registry i found the solution.
navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\controlpanel\backlight
change the onoffbat key to 1 (mine was set to 0)
once done press the power key down for ages to reboot.
my slider now works fine.
hope this helps

Sorry - is a Newbie question:
how can I search the registry on a mobile device ?
how to navigate to the HKEY ?
Dieter
There are lots of registry editors for PPCs I use resco reg editor because it came with resco explorer but there are plenty of free ones.
As always with registry editing BE VERY CAREFUL you can easily brick your machine if you don't know what you are doing.
Thanks to confucius.

[Q] Is it possible to make the phone stay in a fixed orientation?

As the titlequestion says, is it possible? I want my X1 to stay in landscapemode, AT ALL TIMES.
Registry, hack or impossible? All answers accepted
Um... I won't be of much help here, because I don't know how it was done, but i heard it was possible. So keep searching .
Start->Settings->System(Tab)->Screen->General(Tab) Screen Orientation Portrait/Landscape Dunno if permanent until you change it.
Yes, it's possible using mortscript. Then one would wonder, why would you want that?
Easy thing:
Get Schaps Advanced Config tool. Go to the setting where you can set the display orientation. Set 270 degrees to "True", 0, 90, 180 to "False".
The slideout will no longer rotate back to portrait now.
Keep in mind that other tools (AEButton, QuickMenu) can still rotate the screen if they want.

Camera Initialisation Error

Hi,
Before posting this, I searched the forum and have only found posts years old.
This issue I am facing at the moment is a camera/video camera issue stating the following:
Unable to initialize camera. Failed to set up the camera device.
I only really noticed this happening since doing camera related registry tweaks such as the 8MB, or additional hidden modes. Originally I applied the tweaks using a registry editor, but now I use the lastest BSB Tweaks application. The issue seems to arise whether I have the tweaks turned on or off so I am not suggesting that the tweaks are actually to blame. I have been tweaking this phone so much that it could be anything.
Anyway, a random soft reset here and there fixes it, but I was just wondering if anyone else has experieced this issue with the HD2?
Thanks in advance.
Sounds like you may have inadvertantly caused this issue with a bad registry edit.
If so, you'll need either a complete overhaul of the camera registry settings, or a hard reset.
I've only ever used the camera tweaks in BsB, and my camera works fine (I've never seen your problem). If you like, I'd be happy to either export or list the registry keys and values off my phone that might help.
Were all the registry hacks within one key, do you know, or where they in different places. (I don't know if there's just one key for camera settings, with sub-keys, or if they're spread about the registry.)
Hi there,
I've been getting this also, I think I've narrowed it down to the swype keyboard I'm using...
I haven't changed default keyboard with SIP so I have to manually change keyboard whenever I boot, sometimes the swype keyboard doesn't come up, it flashes like it's going to change but remains on the default keyboard. When this happens I can't start the camera. When the change is seemless the camera works fine. A soft reset usually fixes it.
Are you using swype? Have you tried removing any other tweaks to see if it helps?

I'm using the swype keyboard and also have done the camera super fine reg tweak and have had no problems. I didn't use BSB tweaks and I didn't do the reg setting for more camera modes.I also haven't changed default keyboard with SIP.

I am using Swype also, but never experienced an issue using this great keyboard. After posting the message, I did a soft reset and it is working again.
I think I will remove Swype for a while and see if the problem returns. I have all the CABs on my SD card anyway, so not a hassle to reinstall.

Since there's only a few of them, I'll just list the values I have, rather than export the lot and end up changing ALL your camera settings.
These are the values for the registry keys in the 1st post on that page.
HKLM\software\htc\camera\image\jpegquality\superfine
5Msize = 746028
HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\P2
EncodeFormat = 48
HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\P1
EncodeFormat = 2
HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\recparam\MP4VGA
BitRate = 2097152
Hope this helps
Edit:
How strange - I didn't put that space in "superfine", and it's not there when I edit the post!

It doesn't happen all the time, only when I try to change from default to swype keyboard and it *doesn't* load properly, then the camera issue appears. I've also applied all tweaks for the camera using BSB.
It's very random but I've now flashed to Miri's rom and so far no swype issue and no camera issue!
Thanks, I will check these settings before and after toggling them in BSB Tweaks.
My hd2 has the same problem.
I just tried hard reset my device and install new rom, but it still comes out all day.
Some time a soft reset can take effect, but some time only hard reset can make the camera work.
When the issue comes out, it seems the Opera Mobile 10 beta can not work correctly either.
PS: I didn't use any of the tweaks.
I also got this error once and a soft reset corrected it. Don't know the actual cause.
I have BsB tweaks installed, but no Swype.
I had this problem before too, i remember it happened after I made registry tweak on the video recording quality. its gone after I restore to the default value. I did not use swype keyboard, but i did installed bsb tweak.
I had this problem as well when trying to create my own reg cab to change all the settings I wanted upon a hard reset. It messed with a lot more than just camera not initializing. I narrowed it down to the camera reg settings but not sure which one, I couldn't bare hard reseting my device 5 times in one day.
The only reg tweak I have for the camera is the 8MP one which hasn't messed it up.
happened to me too.
have BsB tweaks installed, dont have swype.
only soft reset fixes the problem.
I didn't make a registry tweak manually, I did this with BsB tweaks and don't have any problems with it. I really think you need to change back, the reg. tweaks you did manually! GL!
ok, restored all default camera values in the registry - problem still exists.
i found out that if i soft reset the device and then start the camera it works fine.
problem happens when i use a program before using the camera.
any ideas?

Just uninstalled this. Lets see if that makes a difference. I dont even use the camera, so despite noticing the problem, it doesnt actually affect me much.
I have this problem approx. every third time I want to use the camera. The only way to fix it then is a soft reset.
I've installed several tweaks/patches but no swype.
Hi all,
I had the same problem but I manage to solve it in a very weird way.
This might sound really strange, but have any of you put something between the battery and the cover? When I went home over Christmas I use another SIM card to lower my roaming charges. I didn't want to loose my other SIM card when not is use so I used a piece of tape and put the sim card on the soft "pillow" on the back of the battery cover. It just barely fit and I was happy with the fit.
When I did this I also started to experience that the camera could not initialize. At first I thought it had something to do with my old SIM, and I did a test to put in my new SIM and the problem disappeared (this without my other sim between the battery and the cover) I thought I just had to live with it until I got back and could start using the proper SIM. But when I got back I switch SIM but the problem still existed. I then started to suspect that it was actually the other SIM pressing against the battery that was the culprit and as soon as I removed that the camera has been working fine.
So the only conclusion I could make is that if there is pressure on the battery that somehow causes the camera to not initialize properly.
Hope this helps...
Cheers
Jonas

By any chance you installed spb tv?
HKCU\ControlPanel\BackLight\Brightness Change to 3
I had the same problem like this, because of the stupid SPB TV program. It sets the value to 0, which is out of range(1-10).
Just reset the registry value as 1-10 then the slider will come back.
alsalahi, even if you haven't used spb tv I would still start by checking that reg value, I've read about it getting changed by other things as well, and changing it to a value >= 1 always seems to clear it up just fine.
