Important Questions everyone needs to know - HD2 General

1. Can the sense UI be somehow positioned into landscape mode with a .cab?
2. How do you get into the registry? All visible is HKM? no HKLM files found anywhere...
3. How to search for specific threads under one phone on xda.

1. Yes, use attached cab. It will rotate the display when you rotate the phone into portrait. I only know this to be working on the HD2.
2. What registry editor are you using?
3. Navigate to the forums for that model, and any of the subforums there that apply to your question, and then use the "search this forum" button in the top right, immediately above the list of threads.

Thanks ALOT, you dont know how much this helps, also i am using RESCO for registry, but i think i found a youtube video for that. Thanks alot, if i could award you something i would, (if there is, please do tell as well) (like a thumbs up, or +karma, or whatever this site may use if any)

ok so for the landscape cab, do i need a soft reset, and would you happen to know if cookies home screen mod works with the hd2 landscape? also, how do i find this app in the start menu, when i soft reset my phone, nothing happened when i switched my phone to landscape, any ideas?

I'm afraid that I have no idea if this works or not alongside of co0kie's mod. A soft reset after running the cab should be all you needed to get the rotation working, there's no app to run (or icon for it) after that, it just runs in the background.
You can try one more soft-reset (I think mine took 2 to kick in), and I would also go into settings and calibrate your g-sensor if you haven't already.
Also...are you rotating it the right way into landscape? so that the hardware buttons end up to the right of the screen? This cab will only do the rotation in that direction, and back.
I'm afraid the only officially-sanctioned expressions of gratitude here are the ones issued by the treasury...but this small bit of assistance isn't even worth the time it would take, so your words do the job just fine Pay it forward (here at xda, if possible!)

FYI:
It does work with co0kie's mod but it replaces some of the menu items while in landscape. I can definitely live with that, thank you for the awesome app.

You're very welcome, glad it's working for you
For anyone that hasn't seen that tweak before, you'll want to check out the thread I found it in, there's a bunch more very useful stuff in there:

Anyway to keep phone in Landscape?

is there anyway to keep the phone in landscape, permenantly (even when I close the keyboard?)
i'd like to know about this aswell for the wizard.
I've never tried it personally, but I saw this:
Start > Settings > System tab > Screen
then choose Landscape
Does this help?
thanks for the reply.
that only works until the keyboard is flipped out again!
there must be a way to stop the OS from flipping when it hears that command.
Hi!
Sorry to dig up a post - i thought I'd rather dig this up, than make a new post .. so that no one has to repeat themselves
ERmm - yes, is there some sort of mod, or way to make your TyTN stay in Landscape mode permanently?
Yes, I go to the system settings and change the Screen rotation to landscape, and it stays that way .. and i slide the keyboard out and it stays that way as well .. but as soon as i slide the keyboard in, the damned thing decides to get back into portrait .. sigh .. anyhelp?

Yeah, I've made a hack for this. I'll release it shortly.

Hey V, can you PM or IM me when you get a chance. Thanks
i launcher allows you to rotate screen pemanantly along with the other thousands of things it does!!
futuresbright: does ilauncher maintain the orientation when you open and close the keyboard?
V
you can edit the registy just serch you reg for landscape and portrat copy the landscape ones and past them over the portrat one but why would you want to do this?
This is a good option to have, I think it will be very useful for people who use the keyboard a lot.
ill try and find the exact keys and values for you to change but if you want to change back youl have to edit the reg or hard reset
sorry posted reply away from device last night.forget what I said about ilauncher it does revert back to portrait once keyboard is opened and closed.sorry.
n00b question:
How does one regedit on a PPC?!?!
Thanks for the answers guys! I just prefer the landscape orientation, and find it a pain in the arse that it reverts back to portrait when i open and close the keyboard.
~Louis x_.
I needed this feature also on my Universal. I am using it only as car navigation. So I used a magnet which I glued on the back of the car holder (brodit) thus everytime I put the Universal in the cradle (slide it in from the side) the screen automatically rotates to landscape.
i've been looking at the registry and am unable to find what to change.
I have a solution to this, but am working on a more elegant solution. I didn't look for a way through the registry.
Did javaoverride2003's suggestion above work?
V
couldn't try javaoveride's suggestion - didn't know what keys and such to play with .. hum ..

Hi Vijay, - Any news on this app to stop the autorotation? Much appreciated.
Yes, VJUzumaki is pretty much finished in its current form, but I didn't release yet because I was curious if the registry editing method mentioned worked, in which case there's no need for it.
If the registry method doesn't work, I'll release it.

Enlarge your today screen (how to remove the bottom menu bars)

If you're looking to get rid of the menu bar at the bottom of the Today Screen, read on. This is not a new tip, but might save you time, as there's a lot of different versions of these programs flying around. Only the one below works on WM6 / HTC Touch.
I personally find that the Menu Bars at the bottom of the Today Screen really spoil the look of the HTC Touch's sleek black/grey theme. Besides, the Comm Manager and Contacts are both accessible via the spinning cube (or the camera button if you install Double Launcher) so there's no need to have on the Today Screen, you may as well get more space for plugins, or just to keep everything looking neat and tidy. See screenshot below!
Here's how to banish them forever (?!) :
1. Download ToggleTodayIIAlpha from this link:
http://www.vijay555.com/vj/releases/vjtoggletodayii/vjtoggletodayiialpha.exe
2. Copy it to your \Windows\Startup directory. (or somewhere else and paste a shortcut instead)
3. Go into the registry and edit this key:
HKLM/Software/Vijay555/VJTodayToggle
Change these keys:
Softkeysize = 1
StartSize = 26
TrayVisible = 1
That's it! I've had no massive problems with this so far, although I haven't been testing it for too long. I'd be interested to hear how people get on in terms of stability/bugs. You WILL get problems if you try to use any of the older VJTodayToggle programs in the thread on this forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=243211
(SIP keyboard staying on, SIP moving to the top of the screen, menu titles disappearing but not the background, etc.)
...in fact, that's precisely why I'm sharing this info with you, as this thread is 39 pages long and it's only towards the end that things become totally clear! I'll post again if there's any unexpected side-effects, I'm currently minimising BatteryStatus and I don't know whether this will
Good luck!
Carlos
NOTES / ADVANCED
=======================
A: If you want to make your screen even neater AND still overclock your Touch, then, in step 3 above, you can make TrayVisible=0 then you can minimise the BatteryStatus plugin and it won't show up on your today screen. (right click on batterystatus icon, choose 'show rows -> minimise') I haven't tested this properly yet.
B: If you want to explore hiding the Start Menu, feel free, it looks superb when you first do it, but then I have found that the HTC biotouch (spinning cube) automatically re-instates the start menu bar when it's deactivated each time.
C: Please note, this program ( tt2.exe) DOES NOT TOGGLE, even though it's called that! Again, it's a 39 page thread, I warned you...
D: You can also run TT2.exe with a -config option to avoid editing the registry, but this would actually make the above even more long-winded to explain to any n00bs.
E: A nice new HTC wallpaper is doing the rounds without the logo. (As you can see from my screenshot, it's mis-positioned with the extra screen space) See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319830
F: Vijay555 has been meaning to release a new (non-alpha) version of the software for some time, but sounds pretty busy. He seems like an all-round splendid guy though and I'd like to thank him for this software and his continued postings/programming.
I have the HTC X7500 WM6 and I've been desperate to make it works.
I've been trying other version from the 40 pages thread, so I'll try this one and I will post result.

Good luck! The honest truth is that after I'd posted this, I discovered a couple of bugs that appeared in soak testing. I gave up in the end - it worked 90% but I would still occasionally get conflict, e.g. the SIP keyboard would appear at the top of the screen sometimes and only a soft reset would put it back where it was meant to be!

Yep I confirm that, SIP keyboard is there, and sometimes as well softkeys stay there after softreset.
Well actually for me it's even worse, it's hiding the system tray (the bar just above the softkeys bar) where we can add shortcuts icons and keep the softkeys bar enabled..
Im disappointed but thks for vijay555 for all the efforts
Perfect... without HTC Logo is even better...
Thanks Carlos,
I've just installed and its working fine. With the clean background from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319830 looks even better.
Cheers,
Marcelo

See my original post, have you tried setting TrayVisible=1 in the registry, this should show the system tray.
I followed exactly what u posted, it displayed it correctly the first time, then after soft reset it was displaying only the softkeys bar and hiding the system tray bar
Thks anyway
How does this look on screens BESIDES the today screen? I have used other programs on different WM phones in the past and although the bottom bar disappears on the today screen, it is still on other screens.
Also, can you use the bottom of the screen or is it just dead space? Some of us have moved the HTC Home Plug to the bottom of the page and if it is just dead space, it is going to look bad....

The menu bar is visible on other screens, this behaviour is by design. I cannot see why anybody would want it invisible on other screens, as you normally need those softkeys for menus in most programs!
As far as I know you can use the bottom of the screen, it is not dead space. But why not try it out - it's unlikely to do any harm. You can always delete it from your startup directory to uninstall if you don't want it.

Well it works well so far.....(Not my screen, Neo's screen @ HoFo)
I can't remember if the TrayVisible setting even works - I think it was something I was intending to build in, but never got around to it.
Apologies... I'm kinda programming again, had lots going on, so never finished the app. Sorry for you guys having to use my unfinished piece of cr*p. I'll make it work properly one day!

How did you "move" the HTC Home plugin to the bottom part of the Today-screen without any plugin above it? I searched all over the forums, but I cannot find the answer to this question

Use the HTC Home customizer to "unlock" it. Then you can move it around like normal.
However, it doesn't redraw correctly on the right side if you unlock it, and a scrollbar comes and goes.
i have a other solution!! PCM shrink installe it and your bar remove it s very easier! For become to the original config juste delete the programmz!!
won't stick
Hi..very nice and easy Zip File..just one problem: the toggle won't stick after a soft reset = one has to go into File Explorer..double click the Toggle File and only than the screen is "clean" again.
Any way to make the toggle "stick"?
I have not this problem! I install the cab i going on the explorer and today shrink and clik on after i reboot my pda ans the bar not appear ... You can try put a abbreviated of today skrink in WINdows/started for star the application automatic on windows sartup
the result of the appl:
I have this running at startup on my Tilt, works with screen rotations and everything! And the hard keys are still mapped to calendar and contacts for quick access, awesome.
Many thanks, couldn't stand those useless soft keys before.

Landscape in Diamond 2?

I have searched heaven and hell to find a way to get the D2 running in landscape view, that is for it to switch to landscape view when you rotate the screen. So far I have found apps that allows everything but manilla and its tabs (including home page) run in landscape.
Is there a way to do this?

You can make use of the Topaz drivers itself to do auto-rotation. You do not need to install additional application running in background.
There're some registry editings to be done. Nevertheless, you can use this application to help you enter those into the whitelist. You need to soft-reset after inputting all the applications you'd like to auto rotate.

Landscape manila for d2 is more annoying then useful, if you tilt the phone past the tilt point either way (portrait or landscape) it will rotate and take at least half a second to change screen, and it enerally takes more to come back to portrait. This makes it difficult to immediately read stuff or accept calls as the screens changing layout and the buttons end up in different places.
Landscape would only be useful on phones like the pro2 and it's previous variants when you need landscape while the keyboards out. Other than that just make your mail programs etc landscape capable.
There are other threads with reg keys and apps to use, just follow those and see if they give you success.
Cheers,
Scott
Graphics from the manila tabs aka TD2 homescreen are not designed for lanfscape view, therefor its like Scott (post #4) sayd, more annoying than usefull.
Thanks a lot guys. I think I see your point. Funny thing is that it was my recently installed S2U app that drove it home. It was annoying as hell when it kept switching to views.

expanded zoom slider capabilities

i had an interesting thought while struggling to see around my fat thumbs as i attempted to navigate through manilla on my device. what if there was a way to use the zoom slider on the bottom of our device to navigate through manilla?

Search Topaz forums for "Zoombar"
I know a guy was configuring it to work with specific programs but not sure if they had it working for manila.

He doesn't want to zoom manila, but use default zoombar as navigation (scrolling) key for left and right.
Maybe volume keys can do the work.
unfortunately the edit only makes the zoombar work with scrolling up and down through manila
try ZoomAdds works good for me.
EDIT: did not read first post properly... can't move manila but works in other apps.
I sent a PM to the developer of ZoomAdd's hoping he might be able to shine some light on the subject for us. Maybe if we get enough folks interested we might catch the eye of someone with enough know how to make it work.

Hints n Tips

Since we don't have a hints n tips thread yet, here's one. Just a few odd things I found...
1. I think it's a WM6.5.3 feature, but for some reason, if you install either Dutty's task manager, or the HTC Task Manager linked below, tapping on the taskbar brings up a larger version of the bar, with a magnifying glass icon that will allow you to enlarge the screen and pick out small buttons more easily. Not sure why this isn't enabled out of the box, or why doing this enables it. S:
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-htc-task-manager-v2-0.html
2. A far better task manager (and the only one I could find that works) than the installed MS version...
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-arkswitch.html
3. The same CAB that can be used to add a "Mark all as read" item into the Outlook menu on the HD2 (item 47in link below) works on the Mini as well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638
4. Manual rotation of the screen using a long press of the "call" can be done the same way described in the above HD2 hints and tips thread, mentioned in post 5, by downloading rotate.exe and putting a long_send shortcut into \Windows.

Its user interface is better designed. It uses the screen space better, with larger, clearer text and a built-in close button for each task, rather than the select-endtask approach required by the standard task manager. Switching is done with a single tap rather than a double-tap, and it is activated by tapping on the left of the taskbar rather than by using up a program launcher space. I haven't installed a screen-grabber yet, but the attached image should clarify, have a look and compare.

I'm afraid I didn't, that's a stock image of the task manager, not my device.
THX a bunch man.
Here a explanation for the "rotate screen" program, so you dont have to search through the HD2 thread.
Make a shortcut of the "rotate screen" program, rename it to long_send.lnk and copy it to \windows, then long press call button and this program will be executed, rotating the screen.
Try MMTaskManager. It's a better task manager. App thread found in the Windows Mobile Apps & Games forum of this site.
what's rotate screen program..?
