I just got my hd2 yesterday and today im trying to figure out how to use the wireless router feature that supposodly comes with the hd2. but there is no wireless router under the wireless control section. I also went to go to the help section on the phone thinking maybe that would help me out but there isnt a help icon either even though the user manuel said there is one. Can someone help me out plz?
in wireless controlls you should have a wifi setting thats how you connect to a wireless router, if thats what you mean

Who did you buy your HD2 from? It seems quite a few operators have removed the Wifi Router application.

sorry, wrong sub-forum, ask this in http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=262
not trying to be harsh.. but you obviously lack some basic knowledge about wifi networking. first read this, and try to reflect bit on youre diamond
above that you question can never be answered with so little information about the problem... its like "help my car doesnt start, what is wrong with it?"
understand?
good..
i ve bought diamond 2 days back..... i want to connect to the internet on my phone using my laptops broadband connection....how to do that... ive tried sync but still no websites open...can u help or moro info
still this isnt the place to ask this question.. but ahh well her it goes.. hopefully some mod will replace this into the right subforum...
you have 2 possibilities...
connect to the internet trought activesync. or make use of the wifi router you already have..
i would go for the last option,
just turn on youre wlan on youre diamond, seek youre router and fill out the neccesary info, like the passkey...
if that does not work, sort out the settings in youre router... you must be sure youre router accepts new connections...
last time i checked, via activesync i always have inet... but i never use it trought that way..
Interestingly enough, the SSID created by one Android device cannot be seen by another Android device.
I used HTC Hero to create an SSID using WiFI Tether. Both my G1 and Nexus One fail to see the SSID created but my iPhone can.
Could anyone please verify this for me? I have AT&T and use a HTC Hero (Telus) for HSPA and since Nexus does only crappy EDGE on AT&T, I want to use HTC Hero as a hotspot for Nexus One to feed on.
Thank you for your time guys!
I can't verify this as I only have my Hero to test it out.
But I can make a suggestion. On the Nexus, are you able to manually type in the SSID of your Hero? (In cupcake, you go to Settings -> Wireless Controls -> WiFi Settings -> Add WiFi network... dunno the exact path in Eclair)

I tried the Manual route, no go Is it true that Android phones cannot do adhoc WiFi? If an iPhone can do, why not Nexus One? Puzzling to say the least!

I haven't had a use for WiFi Tether yet... when I get home I'll see what I can figure out, but that probably won't be much. I was under the impression that the phone operated in Infrastructure mode, not Ad-Hoc.

So that is the reason (not adhoc mode) it ain't working. What puzzles me is that the iPhone works flawlessly! Will check with WinMo device and see how it goes. The author of WiFi tether cited adhoc mode issues to.
His response :
"What I know ...
You can't join adhoc-networks by using the built-in 'wifi manager' on all android-
devices.
There is a adhoc-client-app available here:
http://moss.csc.ncsu.edu/~mueller/rt/rt09/readings/projects/g3/
But I've never tried that - so no idea if that's working or not."

i downloaded the adhoc client on both the g1 and the n1 still doesnt see each other in incoming event
would like to use the g1 as a tether to the n1 so i can jus use wifi only on the n1 since i only i got 1 sim card
maybe someone with a lil more brains than me can shed some light/instructions on doing this...
Hi,
What is the registry setting (if any) to change the WM 6.5(.x) setting from WiFi channel 1 to any other channel. This is an important setting to get the HD2 WiFi Router to work also in an environment with heavy WiFi traffic around.
Sorry that my attempts to search for a solution has failed. Please feel free to flame me. But when this is done, please post llink to relevant thread, if any.
Regards,
artreides

Hi,
I had a problem where no wireless device would pick up my HTC HD2's wireless router. In the end I changed the WiFi channel of my office router and all worked perfectly, so if someone has the answer to how to change the wireless channel on WM6.5 please post it
Maybe the channel gets assigned when you hard reset the phone as I had to change my WiFi router away from channel 11, so I assume the phone is on 11.
Cheers
surely its all done via the router not the phone, the router broadcasts on channel X and the device just accepts on that channel
Is there any solution to this issue? would love to know the answer.

@Richy99 & p107r0: can you read in English with understanding?
What about the router function embedded in HD2? artreides is asking about HD2 WiFi Router so please don't reply until you know how to change its channel settings or you've got something really valuable to say

my bad
....
No worries...
... but, going back to the subject: anybody knows how to change it? I don't believe it is locked down to the hardware so there has to be a way to change it software-wise... anybody?
WMwifiRouter has a setting for changing channel but the inbuilt router does not & I have not seen a reg value linked to it in my registry browsing ...

I'm having the same issue. any answers to this would be great. i'm brand new to the smartphones but was a geek from way back... its awesome how far tech has come and all but it's been ten years since i played with linux or any kind of actual programming or networking. while i am eager and excited to learn this inside and out... a cheat sheet of sorts to get me started would be great.
Lets see
Have you tried to use another Navigator as OPERA? or tried to confirm if you have Internet Connection trough wifi? you can try this with the Windows live Messenger for WM or with the Windows Marketplace.
Another tip: try putting off the Security of your router. i remember than in WM5 (few years ago) my wiza Won't connect to the router because the Security was WPA. to get it work i just put WEP security Password.
Good Luck!

Yes I have the same issues, but he is working on another build right now. I am sure they are working hard.
You do not need a app for this. Go to Settings<Wireless & Networks<Tethering &portable hotspot<and then select USB tethering or Portable WI-FI hotspot.
I use this ROM and I use the Portable WI-Fi hotspot like all the time.

In that case then I think you either don't have the correct drivers for your HD2 to connect in this way which is a easy fix. Just go to control panel while you have your HD2 connected via USB and with the Tethering on. Then go to device manager and find your HD2 there, you will know it when you see it, then click on it. This will make it drop down then right click on the dropped down device icon and select update drivers and then get from internet.
If this is not the problem open ActiveSynce or WMDC on your computer and uncheck allow USB connections and see if that helps.
For me, it works with my iphone but not working with my Mac Book.
I had the same issue, just yesterday I found a fix the WiFi tether app(wifi tether 3.0-pre11.apk) the older WiFi tether apk files did not work correctly. The on-board WiFi works great. You will know when you get the right file, the icon color changed from green to yellow. I have been testing this out for about an hour now and all is good...
Also I can receive e-mails when I am tethering via the on-board WiFi or tethering app, but I can not send them. Does anybody know why this is. This is the same with all ROMS, so nothing to with the ROM (which is great) ...Any ideas on how to fix this settings issue...Thanks
