How or what should I use so that the phone notifies me that i have a new message without showing part of it in the notification bar??
if i disabled "Received Notification" it won't let me know when i get new sms ...
Use Handcent SMS, there is an option for 'privacy mode'.
doesnt work whether i check the "Privacy" in notification settings or not it keeps showing the message concent in notification!
You have to turn off the notifications from the default message application.
dude i of course i know that ..i did that already, only handset giving me notification now...and it shows the msg content whether privacy is on or off :S

Do you know there are two 'privacy mode' options, one for the notification and one for the popup. I just tested it and it works as you wanted.
actually im disabling the whole popup thing. and i set the notification's privacy ON.
nothing
Ah yes, I've just noticed what you mean. It doesn't show it when it alerts you of the text but when opening the notification screen it shows it. That's not very useful is it? You could email the developer?
I just emailed him. thanks alot anyway.

Is there anyway to continue using the HTC Messaging interface & get a message notification "message sent" ? anyone knows how to get back the ability to get an indication that your message have been realy sent?
Any registery tweak to enable this ?
No one with a solution? no one needs the "message sent notification" ?
i remember that is an option in ur mobile... cant remember where but u can change the setting to have "message sent delivery"
What I've done is to install Advanced Config cab that I had on Touch HD and enable delivery notification in the messages settings. I've not sent an SMS since that but am assuming it should work.
No, so far this has not been acheived without disabling the sense SMS UI
I've been watching daily as I too want a sent notification!
Sorry - that's me told!!

Have you tried turning on Setting/Options/Request delivery report/ in All Messages?
Also, have you seen this from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638 (number 52):
"O2 sadly do not support sms delivery reports no matter even if you enable them in sms settings or the registry. An alternative way is to add *0# in the body of the message followed by a space and then begin your message. The recipient does not see the code but you will get a message back saying when it has been delivered."
This is working for me.

Fella read the thread title, sent notification not delivery report
I have put an annoying alert on for "message not sent" occasions. Atleast this way I know when its deciding not to send. As it did this morning. But oddly, only my girlfriends number. I could text anyone else, just not her.
I jiggled about a bit and it is sending her messages again.
Its the first instance of any such behaviour.
Has anybody got this working yet?
I disabled HTC messaging MAINLY so that I could get this functionality back!
I've been looking for this feature too but can't find any posts about the registry tweak to enable it. I've found the registry key that enables it on the HD but that doesn't work for the HD2 as the messaging system is HTC's and not Windows.
There has to be a way to enable this on the HD2.
O2 delivery report *0#
O2 apparently dont support sms delivery reports. I know that using the short code before the message sends a report back - Is there anyway to have this short code entered automatically before sending the message. It would be very handy as I generally forget until I've sent the message.
Delivery report and sent notification are two different things.... one confirms that the message was sent out and not sitting in your outbox. The other tells you if your recipient got the message (via an sms)....
There is NO way to have sent notification with the Sense UI (HTC messaging). It just a completely different app that bypasses the Windows one completely.... only way to get this functionality is to disable the HTC messaging app and revert back to Windows. I prefer this anyway... its faster and less buggy. My keyboards also play nicely with the WM sms app.
If you want to do this, just google it... you may also need to use Advanced Config 3.3 to enable sent notifications which is usually disabled by default...
Can some of you guys tell me the reg entry to disable HTCMessaging?
So, no solution yet on how to get a "message sent" notification ?
I tried looking all over in all related forums.
Tried looking at all the published tweaks
However, so far, i didnt found any solution that will help me get an indication that my message indeed was sent out.
No mate i've not found anything yet
Hello,
Still no solutions?
Geeeez.. Everyone needs the SMS notication badly & same goes for me,
wish someone can create a cab file that when SMS were sending out
a loader appears on the taskbar or just above the text counter "0/160"
& when loader fully loaded it meant SMS have been send out.
This has happened to me twice already in 1 month.
1. SMS sent by my wife showed up in thread of another person in the messaging client. However, when I click the SMS bubble to go into the SMS, it shows on the top bar that it's sent by my wife.
2. I received an SMS from Mr X, so went into the conversation thread of Mr X to reply him. The SMS however, was sent to Mr Y! When I checked, the SMS sent was reflected in the thread of Mr X, but when I click on the SMS bubble to go in, it shows that it's sent to Mr Y. What is worse is when I exit the thread, it shows that it is Mr X's conversation thread, but when I go in, it becomes Mr Y's, with all conversations between X and Y in that thread! BTW, X and Y have 2 very different mobile nos.
Now I am very scared to send SMS, not knowing if it will get sent to somebody else! Anyone encountered this? Any remedy?
i had something weird like this and put it down to me being silly clicking the wrong thing.
I also notice that when i send a sms to "hannah" sometimes the name "helen" is shown at the notification bar which of course ****s me up considering some of the conversations i have!
can't quite put my finger on whats going on to give a full explanation but i noticed something odd too...
Sounds scary.
Do you guys get any feedback from the phone that the message was sent successfully? I don't, and find that troubling.
in the conversation window as soon as i click send the sms content turns into a "sending...." then once sent displays the sms content again. on a unsuccessful sms the phone notifies you and the sms colour turns grey.
maybe try dropping your signal somehow, flight mode or something and try sending a sms and see if it notifies you on a unsuccessful sms.

Would be nice if there is an audio feedback, but your suggestion is good.

you could play around with the delivery reports in the SMS options menu, i believe they are carrier related though?
my phone does vibrate when i recieve a failed sent sms message though, maybe this could be customised with a notification ringtone. i currently have it on silent since i get like 30 twitters an hour.
On my phone, if a message is sent successfully, the date and timestamp will appear on the lower right of the sms bubble. If it's not successful, the bubble is grey and both the sms notification ringtone will play and notification appear in the notification bar

That's what I thought too when I had that option on, but it does not notify me.
Upgrade to JG3, it was a problem in JG1.
Strange, I don't hear the ringtone or the notification.

it's just a software glitch, i've had this problem with some 3rd party SMS software in my windows phone, so reverted to the stock SMS software, however in SGS it seems ok so far.
there is a 3rd party SMS apps for SGS "ChompSMS" check it out, it might solve the problem the few of you are experiencing
No problems here, 250~ SMS already sent this month.
Argh! It happened again this morning. Using handcent now. a pity as I find the stock messaging app to be quite good

I have the same problem. Can't find where to disable missed call notify in status bar. Turning off missed call LED doesn't help either.
I had same problem and googled it... simple solution.
Call your cell from another phone, leave a message.
Then go into voicemail on the cell and delete messages... it somehow takes care of the stuck notification, even if you've tried deleting THAT message before...

I don't think you understand what they want done. They don't want the phone to show a missed call icon in the notification bar.
Seeing as how to get rid of the messaging notification was under messaging app, i would think it would be a setting in the phone app but the phone app has no settings :/
Hi guys, hope you can help!
Basically the embarrassing situation has occurred a few times now when I'm showing my friends some features of the DHD a personal text comes in which was meant for my eyes only, however the first two lines of it are displayed in the notification bar when it arrives.
Surely there's a way to stop this from happening!?
Cheers!

If you're using HTC stock messaging app then there is no way to stop it. A solution would be to use messaging apps from the market like Handcent SMS and the likes. It will give you the ability to pop the notification but does not show the content.
I've just had a friend ask me this as well. Wanting just a notification sound and icon rather than disclosing the sender or the message body on the lock screen or in the notification bar.
I've got a DHD and don't mind if people see what i'm receiving, even to the degree that i've installed an app called ChompSMS which brings up a window on the homescreen displaying the full message.
I had a fiddle with the ChompSMS settings and it seems that you can increase the privacy settings to make it anonymise the notification, however as soon as you unlock the phone it will still show the full text in a window - I only fiddled a little bit, but couldn't find a way of disabling this without losing other features.
I uninstalled ChompSMS (for the purposes of this experiment) and had a look round at the generic (HTC) messaging settings and it seems like it's all or nothing, as soon as you turn off the 'received notification' option it greys out the options below it, meaning that you get no notification whatsoever when someone messages you (except for the green circle on the messaging widget - if you have this on your homepage).
I'm going to try installing Handcent (another popular messaging app) to see if I can make it do exactly what my friend wants done. I'll message back if I manage it.
Mike.
OK guys, this one has been bugging me for a while now so i am asking for help. Im looking for a way to keep sms private on my phone. Currently I am using the privacy box in handcent sms (which is great for the most part) except for the fact that the notification system in the privacy box doesnt exactly work in my favor. If you turn notifications on and you recieve a notification it pops up the prompt for you to enter your password to the privacy box ( i can hear her saying "so why do you have a privacy box huh???) the other options for notifications are either for trackball light up or led notifications (which were obviously lacking). I just turn notifications off however theres obviously no way to know when youve recieved a reply.
So im sure someone out there has the same issue and im wondering how you guys work around it. any input helps thanks
just lock the phone with password....
use go sms pro. multiple privacy and notification options. and it's free.
Peronally I use Call Blocker app by NQ mobile, It has a lot of functionality including a private space which is password locked, and contains the SMS and call logs from the people you hae added to that list.
Personally, I dont use handcent or go sms' privacy option, i dont know why lol
however, i use app protector / other apps which locks multiple apps, to lock my personal stuffs like gmail, whatsapp
also i use GO SMS and enable the "privacy notification" mode so it only appears a logo at the top and tell you "new message" but without any information about the message. no sender, no content
i recommend you use my method too! hope i helped and happy messaging
