first of all, i'd like to say that your post is kinda confusing.
but with your question, are you tethering?

Are you using it while charging as you mentioned? If so is the screen set to full brightness?
Have you checked your uptime vs. awake time? it should be awake 15% at max...menu>settings>about_phone>battery
Do you live in an area of fringe reception?
Are you using any high power draw apps? e.g. something is using wifi or searching for gps indoors?

yeah i forgot the tp2 battery fits the hero too.
The other day while at was at work my phone started getting hot. I pulled it out and was like "What the Hell." It said I was roaming. I was standing outside at a location I'm always at. Turned it off and turned it back on and it fixed it. Could be a possibility.
Hot Hero
Mine was also getting like that. I thought it was the battery because while charging it would be very hot and would not go above 19 percent charge. I took it into Sprint Repair and they checked the battery and said it was "fine". She told me that the Hero was Known for having "low battery" issues. LOL, I told her that this was not the Low Battery issues they were speaking of. Anyways, came home and found my usb chord for charging had a knick in it, so switched it out and been pretty good since.
Long Story, eh? I guess I wanted to say, check the charger for any damage.

most htc phones are famous for having crap battery life. they cram more & more higher specs in the phones and give us small batteries. thank god for ebay!
yea so i changed chargers with the tp2 also, hmm, yea the phone gets hot while its off and charging, reception in this area is pretty good and its not looking for gps cuz when i was using the phone the only thing i was doing was talking which does make it hot but yea nothing else like no wifi or anything, the tp2 gets hot when theres like tethering or when someone is talking on it but its pretty cool otherwise and that screen is huge!

Thought I would ask this.
Lately, when my Hero is connected to a car charger, I would sometimes get a blinking amber light (it will coincide with a blinking green light, which I know is new mail or message notification). This usually happens when I'm streaming a radio station or using Pandera while using a bluetooth car adapter.
I have looked around for any documentation on this blinking amber light, but to no avail. When I've had a lack of power (for instance, from doing the same things using a USB cable connected to a computer), I would get a message on the phone saying there's insufficient power to run everything and that I need to plug the phone into an A/C outlet.
Thought maybe one of you may know what that is. Seems to stop when I disconnect the car charger, so I'm pretty sure it has something to do with that.
Thanks.
I too have experienced this behavior. From what I gather I think it is related to the battery over heating.

Not sure why its overheating, but it always happens when I an tethering over wifi and have the phone charging at the same time. It also happened to me once when using the navigation app and charging at the same time. The battery was hot to the touch.

The battery itself isn't capable of handling the powerdrawn from the wifi tethering. I noticed that it stopped doing this when I got the 1800mah batter from mugen.

I have the 3600mah from Seidio and it does it. I did have this issue with my stock battery as well.
It's not that the battery can't handle the power draw, because it can. The heat is coming from the CPU and antennas which are working serious overdrive when WiFi tethering.

Anyway to remedy this or do I just have to basically deal with it?
It means some sort of battery problem. My girlfriend dropped her phone in a cup of coffee and it flashed amber-green-amber-green before I told her to pull the battery so it didn't fry.

Well, I didn't drop the phone nor the battery in anything. And it's strange that I've seen this issue on two different batteries (the original stock battery and now this one). And it only seems to be happening with the car charger.
I'm going to put another car charger in the car and see if that helps.

my girlfriend SLAMMED some vice grips down on the screen. like from a foot above it, yesterday. what she was doing with vice grips i will never know.
no scratches, nothing. i'd like to see what these things are capable of.

I accidentally dropped mine about four feet straight down onto a concrete driveway. It landed face down, with the screen hitting directly onto the driveway. Have one very tiny chip in the glass (about the size of a grain of sand), but the phone still works. No cracks or other scratches.
.
i purchased one of those backup batteries on ebay from china, after about 2 weeks it came in.
upon opening it i compared it to my battery, the new one said htc inovation on it but looked like a knock off counterfit to me. so before ever putting it in my phone i put it in the included charger and started charging it. once it was complete i tried changing batteries and as soon as i put it in my nexus one the little led at the top right started flashing from green to orange, the screen wouldnt even flicker. as long as this battery was in, even if i plugged it in it would do this. i left it plugged in over night.
i really dont wanna wait for a new one so im wondering if there is a way i could fix it. im going out on a limb and suspecting that the charger that came with it is the problem, as it seems to be some weird universal charger. so for the past few days ive had a led attached to the battery and it still i not dead. once its completely dead im going to try to charge it with my nexus.
any other ideas/insight you guys can give?
I know you can get a bit of info from /sys/kernel/debug/battery_log
I'm not 100% sure on how exactly to interpret that though.
I've also had what i assume is a dud battery from ebay. Exactly the same issue - flashing orange/green LED. I'm waiting for them to ship a replacement. I guess I'm not really that surprised. It's not like it's a genuine battery. I was kind of expecting problems with it i guess.
yeah it reminds me of those fake louie vutton purses you see on the streets in big cities, says htc on it but i doubt htc had anything to do with making it.
i bought one just like it for my g1 a year ago and it worked fine, still works to this day with no noticable difference from the legit one that i got it with.
i got a refund but i hate to let it go to waste i wanna try to fix it. when i hook it up to the led it shines so its obviously giving power, but every few seconds or so the led flashes, im not sure if this is the battery or the fact that i have the led taped to the diodes lol.
did you get one of those universal battery chargers with yours? i got one that you have to slide the connectors to fit the battery and i have a feeling its about as high quality as the battery. im wondering if that had anything to do with it?
that's what mine did when it got dunked in water....
did you dunk the whole phone or just the battery?
ive noticed that the phone flashes from orange to green if you try to turn it on while its plugged in without a battery in. perhaps it means insufficient power?
just a heads up, i put the new battery i got into the charger that was included in my first backup batty the charger is this one from this same seller
http://cgi.ebay.com/Multi-Purpose-B...wItemQQptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item3efc5b5855
not only did it destroy the new battery but it melted part of it after litterally 10 minutes of charging.
BEWARE of that charger and probably that seller as well
it probably would have burned my house down if i had not smelled it before walking out the door

okay i need help i have been been jumping from rom to rom trying "EVERY" fix that its on this site trying to fix this issue flashing kernal after kernal but nothing is working i thought it was my battery but i brought it to a sprint tech and he said the battery tested good so now i'm really lost okay here it goes My battery will drain from 100% down to 80% within 5 minutes and usually will be dead within 2 1/2 hours after being off of the charger with moderate usage such as calls text and checking email. and then the craziest **** happen to me when i was trying the htc fix posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&highlight=htc the phone will hit 0% and shutdown; I'll place it on the charger (AC wall charger, not the usb adapter) until the orange LED stops blinking; I'll turn the phone on and once it's fully booted it will read 53%......all of this within 5mins of going dead! WTF!!! have the most recent radios/PRI/PRL with this rom stock no tweaks and before like 2 week ago ny battery life was great i was running decks newest but i flash the flyer express and the rainy day rom and ever since battery life went crazy
Have you tried a different battery?
Nah that's my next move but bye the tech at Sprint saying my battery was good figured I wasn't the battery

How on earth can they test that? Ph wait its showing full charge it must be good :-/ anyway how old is it? Mine started showing its ass after about a year and became in bearable latley. SBC never worked well after the first charge for me it wouldn't charge unless I flashed something else then back. Weird I know. Anyway I bought 2 extended batteries off eBay and it came with an external charger. My silicone cover fits it without a battery cover so it's hardly noticeable. In the morning before work I grab the spair and last all day now streaming the radio. Oh btw just in case anyone else streams just as much as I do, sprint WILL send you a letter if too much of it is from roaming. And no I have stock prls.

I have 3 EVO's in the house so I have bought about 6 batteries off of ebay with these small dock chargers just to keep on hand. When a battery is getting low, I just shut down the phone and insert a freshly charged one. They are really cheap, $3 or $4 each. Some of them come from US sellers so they arrive in a couple of days. They seem to work just as good and last just as long as the ones supplied by HTC, probably made in the same factories in China.
I should have just bought several of those instead of the extended but I kinda have gotten used to the silicon case holding my battery in. When its swap time there is no prying fingernails under the cover. And the camera seems to he more protected.

So all this happened sometime during the night of 7/1 & morning of 7/2. I noticed when my alarm went off on my phone, my phone was EXTREMELY HOT. Very uncomfortable to the touch. However the battery was at 100%. Not really thinking anything of it, I used it as normal and when bedtime rolled around, I plugged it back in the stock cable & charger. No "beep" indicating it's charging. No change to the battery icon. I started troubleshooting and testing it with different cables/different charger combinations. My phone would not charge at all but everytime I connected a charger to it while it was turned on, it started getting very hot.
I eventually just turned the phone off and attempted to charge it again. When it's off, it won't charge (but won't overheat).
I did notice that when I used another charger (that had an LED indicator of when it was charging), it would completely go off when I plugged my GS4 to it.
I'e never used any other charger with my GS4.
Any ideas WTF is going on?

Can you give us any insight on the phone such as any custom flashes or possible root permissions to apps that might affect the battery?
Most likely than not the battery might be fault, I highly doubt it would be anything else unless it's flashes with a certain kernel or rom that might have a bug or two.

Oh. Sorry about that. This phone is as stock as it gets. Nothing custom about it.
I talked to AT&T Chat this morning and they said they think it's the battery. I've never really heard of a battery preventing a charge problem, but that's what they told me it was.
The crappy part is, they are sending me a battery first (and if that doesn't work), they told me to call them back to have the phone replaced. What's worse is if it isn't a battery problem, I'm out a phone for the entire weekend until Monday or Tuesday.

I think in most cases (i don't know AT&T) they send you a replacement and ask you to ship your phone into the box your new phone came in.
Either way I would think that it is the battery especially with your phone overheating while charging Of courses there are cases where the plug or cord is at fault so you might want to give those options a try as well.

I might want to try that option (get a new phone) despite them sending me a battery first. I'll call them back.
My phone has about 15% left (I turned it off after I realized I couldn't charge it for troubleshooting purposes). I notice now that the phone gets really warm (around the camera flash) when on. This is without it being plugged in and only turned on.
I've tried 2 other chargers (A Griffin and a Belkin that I use for my other phones for work) and none of them charge my GS4. When I plug it into my Motorola Droid Razr (work phone), it charges that just fine. This is really frustrating. Any other weekend would be fine, but it's the freaking 4th of July weekend and I won't have a phone for the entire holiday.
Thanks man, going to call AT&T to see if I can sweet talk the rep to just send me a new phone. The battery is scheduled to come Friday, so maybe they can ship the phone that quickly.

I'm not the biggest tech guy when it comes to phones but I think around the flash area is where the battery connectors are (where they make contact with the phone), so that might result in it getting warm. Although with you not charging it it can still be the battery being faulty.
I would call them back and try to exchange the full phone just to be on the safe side. I still think it is the battery but if your under warranty why let it go to waste?
This happened to me with an HTC Sensation back in 2011. They sent me another battery and it still did this. This could be a common defect among logic boards. Anyway, I get a warranty replacement right away. In your case, it won't matter what rom your using, it will always do this.

Thanks guys. I did what you said on Wednesday and AT&T is sending me another phone. Should arrive sometime today. My phone's been off for 3 days now. But with about 10% charge left, I'm curious about something.
Do you have suggestions on how I can make a backup/copy my settings from my old phone to the new one? Remember, my port isn't working. So not sure if this is even possible.

Best bet would prob be to see if you can get an app quick that backs up everything onto the SD card and swap the SD cards when the phone arrives. Or manually back up what you can to SD (pictures, songs etc) using apps like ES manager etc
PLEASE! Im experiencing same issue with my phone, any solution?
I purchased a defective sgh-i747m (Canadian version of the s4) and, when I connect the phone to as charger, the area where the charging cable connects to the motherboard gets extremely hot. When I try to boot the phone with a good battery, the Samsung logo appears, then the phone turns off. Can't seem to get the phone to charge the battery without getting really hot. Only solution I found was changing the motheboard.
i just got this problem today and a bad time because im leaving in a week, but i decide to leave with out a battery for a couple days see if that does anything
As the title says, Phone won't turn on. There are no led lights at all. It does get warm after being plugged in for a little. I had jrkruse's hybrid_bra1 stock safetynet samsungpay...... rom on it. It was rooted. Very minimal processes running. I actually had basically everything stopped and greenify on. Phone was around 40% battery. I plugged it into charger, took my dog outside, showered real fast, washed a few dishes, then came back in to room within 15 minutes to my phone being dead and hot. It's never got this hot before even while rooted and plugged in with this rom on it. I have never had it get that hot. Was just formatted the day before and really bare but, that is what happened.
A couple battery apps I had put the batteries remaining life capacity at around 60%. It held a charge poorly. Even for 60% capacity it felt weak, considering how little I did on it lately. I am thinking the battery may have took a crap but unsure because it warms up when it is plugged in. I plan on getting a battery soon since they are inexpensive and replace it to try it out.
Just wondering if anyone here has any experience with this and can offer any advice.
Thank you in advance.

You say your battery was already outworn, It may have died. I think you should try with a new battery, Or take it to a technician who can test the phone's hardware to see if there is anything else broken
i've only had one similar case with an s3, which would turn of at random % of battery. But when plugged turned on. I replaced the battery and it worked fine then

funny story....
The mic in my Nubia Red Magic broke and I sent that back to hong kong for repairs like 20 days ago. Before the Red Magic, I used this galaxy s7 edge my friend gave me. I gave it back when I got the Red Magic and told him to sell it or something. Not much later, decided to buy it back off of him for $200 to give to my mother. She loved it. I had the gs7 edge with me exploring prepaid provider options for my mom when the Red Magic mic broke. So then I decided to borrow the edge from her till my phone got back and few days later I break this one too..
I feel naked without a phone for so long haha

I have the same rom, with charging issues. I don't think its the rom causing it. The s7e are getting old and the batteries are taking a toll with the age. My phone will charge up to 81 at night and stay there. I get better results with wireless charging so i just top my phone off during the day with my wireless charger. There is a code to reset the battery's internal memory, if i find the link on how to do it I will post here for you.

Thanks for reply and alright let me know if you find out. My phone had no problem charging to 100% Its just the 100% on the status bar wasnt 100% of the 3600 capacity from wear. My friend's also does the same thing as yours except his he cant charge more than like 24% haha. He just uses it as a plugged in music player in car.... I am getting battery in the mail tomorrow and will see what I can do.

I have not done it because it requires draining the battery and I never get around to doing that. Hopefully it will help you out. Good luck!

A little late, sorry. lol.
Thanks for suggestion, however, I may have worded my statement incorrectly. I meant to say that My phone would charge to 100% and the status bar displayed it as 100% but, the health and total capacity of the battery in mah was not the maximum 3600 or so due to simple wear and tare. It isn't apparent within any stock android feature however, battery monitoring apps like accubattery gather statistics after several charging sessions and estimate the current mah capacity. Mine was much lower than the default oem stated value of 3600. So my battery could be charged 100% but the 100% is really only 2400 mah lol. It was obvious either way by noticing that after my time using it and the previous owner's bad charging over night habits, that the battery was gradually needing charged more often lol..
I did read about the calibration method before when I was first looking into the battery issues. It seems it is more often done after a new battery is installed.
I screwed up a new battery install at the last second. I had to stop due the tiniest little round metal piece coming off from a very light swipe of my plastic spudger.
It was a very small wire connector piece. Unbelievably irritating. I didn't even finish because I doubt it would work properly. I beleive it is for the rf cable or something not sure. The red one on the left bottom side of the logicboard/motherboard whatever. There are three of them.
I took it apart and put it together a couple times prior to this and in a hurry it popped off and I couldnt find it. I couldnt find out the exact part name online so I could buy one and solder it back on. I did find a site/ supplier that has a plethora of them though. They are tiny coaxial connectors/pins. I didn't look through them all but there are 6,000 some listed under coaxial connectors (RF). https://www.digikey.com/products/en/connectors-interconnects/coaxial-connectors-rf/437?k=coaxial pin
I haven't gotten around to asking samsung or the digikeys support if they could help me find out which it is. They have different sizes and frequency ratings or speeds and such. The phone is packed away until I manage to figure out which pin to buy or if I pull 80$ or so out of my behind and buy a whole new motherboard logic board haha.
