Capacitive touchscreen fidelity test - HD Mini General

Hi guys.
I saw this thing a few days ago and thought you guys who have the HD Mini could test this and tell us future owners what the performance of the touchscreen is like:
http://labs.moto.com/diy-touchscreen-analysis/
Watch the video and please do the test. I m very interested in the touchscreen accuracy of the HD Mini.

No tv out
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=437730
I wonder why htc would omit a feature like that?
Would this be a deal-breaker for anyone?
In a word...NO!
TV out is the last thing I would require from a high tech ppc like the HD...
TV-out is a must for me. With the new pico projectors coming up. Imagine beaming your Slingbox Video from your HD to the Hotel room wall. Or have powerpoint presentations without having a laptop and heavy beamer.
I hope the Russian Version, Quarz or somthing will be my next one. It has TV-Out. A Touch Diamond lookalike... i would love this one. Touch Diamond like is nicer then the HD Design i think.

I must disagree. Touch Diamond and Touch Pro look really ugly to me.
THe HTC Touch Pro does have TV out... ugly or not!

compare HD vs Touch Pro

Hi all,
I know these 2 models are quite different. What I would like to discuss is how good or bad the Touch HD is, because I've been quite disappointed with my Touch Pro that I just sold.
This time, I want to evaluate properly before deciding for a new PDA.
So, the guys who have a Touch HD, or better: who know the Touch Pro, please express your views and feedbacks (honest ones) on this device.
Thanks.
You could try looking here for a few relevant posts: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=444459

Maybe you could list what you are not happy with on your Touch Pro.
Having dedicated problem areas to work on makes it easier for a reply and quite often gives quicker results too.

MultiTouch on the HD

Hey guys, i was just wondering that, does the HD have multitouch capabilities. a couple of months back we saw the diamond has a little bit of multitouch in it. is there anyone out there that can test the hd to see if it can do "multitouch"
I don't think we have the type of touch screen to support that. Even if, Apple just got a patten for it, I expect lawsuits will fly over that shortly.
What do you mean with, the diamond has a "little bit of multouch"?
Do we really need another thread to discuss this?
The Touch Pro and Diamond have a capacitive touch pad below the screen. The HD does not.

advice please

hi all, im relativly new to all this having had an n95 for the last year or so.
I have the choice of the samsung omnia white 8gb or the htc touch hd. With the omnia ill be on a 12 month contract, with the hd an 18.
Anywya, its driving me insane trying to decide, so id appreciate any advice you could offer.
the way im looking at it at th emoment, i like the fact that the omnia has a flash, built in memory and seems to be faster (reading on here there seems to be a driver issue with the hd).
The worrys i have about the hd are the driver situation(reading on here people seem to have delay issues with tomtom and i use gps quite alot, and weather without the device will be powerfull enough to run heavier apps and the lack of a flash and inbuilt memory.
However, what i love about the hd are the community you guys have. Looking at the forum (i may be totally wrong) but itlooks like you guys are not far away from getting android working on it, which would be cool as. Also, i like the way you can use the features from the other phones such as touchwiz and the xperia squares thingy.
Anywya, i dont know much atall having used symbian for the last 6 years or so , so please give me your honest advice.
Everyone looks at their phones differently.
It is decision that others can't make for you.
Evaluated the facts and make a choice.

Couldn't have put it better!!
Only you know what you are looking for in a phone. Look at both specs, read up on both of them and evaluate which one is best for you.
Both have pros & cons, but you are right, xda developers is an awesome community to be part of and the tweaking & roms available are of great use!!
Is there likley to be any resolution to the driver situation. Im hoping that with the release of the magic mabey we will also have android running perfectly on the touch hd.
But then if i go for the omnia, its only 12 months i have to stay and i get the flash camera.
The omnia techinically looks just as powerfull as the hd touch, but with a lesser community of devs.
Grrr, descisions descisions!

Camera on the Omnia is superior to the HD's, but I don't really use the camera function as I have a 10MP camera anyhow. I stated before, it all depends on your usage. If your looking for an Android phone, there is other options out there as Android on the HD appears to still be a long way off!
thanks guys, i think ill go for the omnia. I use gps and camera alot, so with the lag and no flash of the HD i think that just sways it for me.
And the omnia is only 12 months, so i can upgrade in 10 at xmas. Hopefully by then the htc will have resolved problems with the drivers and mabey have android running.
Omnia looks like it can do pretty much most of the things the hd can do and only downside is the smaller screen and resolution .. am i right in thinking this?

What you could do, which is a bit risky, is trial them both, i.e. get the HD and try it out for a couple days then return it saying you aren't happy, then get the Omnia and do the same thing. If you prefer the Omnia, just keep it etc
I had an Omnia for a few days and returned it as soon as possible for a Touch Pro (now have HD).
Omnia was rubbish, screen is poor, especially in sun light. The Op/sys was extremely unreliable - they've probably fixed this by now. There is no stylus except on a string and the interface is just a simple overlay on top of windows (bit like TF3D) so you need a stylus. Sound was excellent, camera was OK but I'm not a big photo maker with PDA.
The sensitivity of the Omnia acceleration detector is either too sensitive or not enough, I was not able to get it right. The touch screen sensitivity is poor - it needs a hard tap to make things happen.
What else? memory was not so big as on HD, screen resolution is not as good as HD, HD is just way way better.
BUT, it's a personal choice. However, I would highly recommend waiting for the new Omnia now and not buying the old one.
how do you find theHD though? In videos i have seen it seems to stutter alot and lag.
mmm
I got the touch HD , as I fell in love with the Orginal Touch .. I use PC's alott and starsted getting thumb strain with Nokia phone .. so went to the Touch .. loved this .. then went to the HD ... bigger screen etc.. I love it .. what It cant do .. is not worth it ..
i had the same dilema myself and i ended with the HD
if you want a brilliant display, cool factor and xda community go with the HD
if you want a decent camera, snappy interface, huge memory and avi movies with no conversion go with omnia
all other things are more or less the same and more or less acceptable
good luck!
thanks alot guys

I got the HD, my wife the omnia.
The HD has a much, much!, better screen. I don't see much difference between the camera's (except for the flash I suppose, but I don't think she ever used it).
As for GPS:
We tried it, driving with both telephones running Garmin software.
I didn't see any difference, the voice directions came mostly simultanious or at most within tenth of seconds from each other and to be honest, I have no idea if the omnia or the HD was the echo
No way I would ever want to swap my HD for her omnia

I don't use videos much but I do use the youtube application and it's fine, I never get a stutter.
It probably depends on the coding/format being used.

Agreed, don't use videos, but I do find it annoying that when playing music you get an occasional stutter/blip with no apparent fix yet!!
How do you find the data charges when using youtube a lot?
cheers guys, orderd the omnia now in white.
thanks
Someone found the right thing to do with an omnia:

As to data charges for YouTube, I use this over wifi and not GPRS so I use it for free!
I get no noticeable GPS lag in either TomTom or Google Maps.

Help me decide btw HD or Diamond2

Hi fellow Xda members.
I'm considering of changing my N95 8GB out with a new HTC device. I just can't decide between the HD or the Diamond2.
As I see it the HD has a bigger screen and therefore more chunky and less handy. And the price tag of the Diamond2 is much lower. Is it true that other than that they are identical?
Does the screen size really matter that much, I will use it mostly for email and internet surfing.
What would you chose? Hope someone can make my decision making easier.
Thanks a lot
I haven't had the new Diamond in my hand, but I've been using my HD for three months now. The size is absolutely perfect, it's just right. It's as big as it can get without being too uncomfortable to wear in the pocket or use with a single hand.
I'd say go for the HD, but I'm not familiar with Diamond 2's price tag, if that's your deciding factor. It really boils down to whether you think that the larger screen and form factor (TD2 is ugly) are worth it.
The price tag isn't really a deciding factor. I really like the big screen of the HD
Is there any news on the video recording capabilities of the new TD2 ?
Or is it the same as the HD?
Screen size
Battery life
Zoom bar on Diamond2
3.5mm jack on TouchHD
Housing of TouchHD vs Housing of Diamond2
Price tag
Btw, diamond2 should be more expensive or just as expensive as the touch hd since it's a new device even thought it's a lower end device.
Hey Mate
one of my work mates has the Diamond and after he seen my HD he regrets the purchase once ur familiar with the HD there is no other you want, as long as you use a video convertor easily found on this site it works great my VIDS are so clear and the sounds is awesome my whole company is jealous
i think the screen size of the hd is an important feature in a keyboard-less device like this
less screen size equals smaller virtual keys
and bigger pain when writing
HD every time. Big screen is fantastic but not too big. Any bigger (ref Toshiba) and it would be cumbersome.
For internet surfing - that was one of your needs - the HD is great. Here is where the big screen and high resolution really shows.

What does the video converter do? Do you use it after you record something with the HD to make the quality better?
Thanks a lot for the reply everybody, so I guess the HD isn't chunky and too big after all :-D
Does anyone know the specs for the video recording of the new TD2?
Check out PDADB.
You'll see that the new Diamond II has the same camera as the Touch HD.
By the way, a videoconverter converts a video
It converts a video to a size that's optimized for the screen on your phone.
Means you can scale your vids too 480x800 and having the quality optimized so it'll look fabulous on your phone.

Okay thanks..
haha I know what it means
But maybe it could do some magic so that the recording got better hahaha
Because there is such a program for Samsung Omnia...
for me it was the screen size... had been using BlueAngel for past 4 yrs.... it is still working fine.... only hiccup was that it did not support faster data connection (only GPRS... no Edge or 3G). only thing that I miss in HD right now is the h/w keyboard.... but i'm getting used to the onscreen qwerty of HD.
Never used the TD2 but I used to have the original TD and that was simply awfull!
It kept hanging, had an earth problem and was really crap for signal, check the specs of the processor/RAM out before you make a decision!
I have the HD now and can say it's absolutely fantastic, it is the perfect size and coming from the TD it feels more comfortable aswell!

Not that I know off.
IF there's a similiar program for the Touch HD, I'd be happy to use it too.
As far as camerawise, my personal opinion is to rather have a pixon, n96 or a x1.
In my opinion phones for the "more standard users" but with better camera's.
I'm thinking of getting the Diamond2. I lost my HD on holiday a couple of weeks ago and if the insurance comes back with money instead of a new HD I'd like a change. There isn't a massive difference in screen size, but the diamond2 is slated for an official upgrade to WM6.5 when it arrives later this year. I won't miss the 3.5mm socket since I never really used it on the HD. Battery life might be the only killer for me as its not as well specced as the HD in that department.
i should go for the pro 2 because i hate the onscreen keybord
