desperate for it. makes me want android just for this app. is there one for WinMo? or anyone trying to port it?
and is this app dependent on Andoird hardware, like specific hardware to function?
Could not find sofar Google sky maps for windows. For sure is not a hardware thing.........
Think that google wants to keep some apps exclusive for Android to make this OS more attractive vs windows......
It's a matter of time till it is available to us guys.
You could try this application.

I know that people are working on developing the Android platform for other phone, what I am wondering is this: will we ever be able to sync our google apps with the mogul (or any other phone) without running Android?
What I am wondering is this; I am using an exchange server right now, but come January/Febuary I am not going to have that option available anymore, so I was wondering if we will be able to sync our google apps at some point without having an Android phone...
I don't know much about hacking or the developement that goes into customizing Android, but it would seem like it would be possible to lift whatever part of the Android os that is being used for syncing the google apps, so that it could be used on other devices. It seems like this would be possible just like taking off touch flo, or any other built in program (I know it probably isn't quite that simple, I was just trying to explain my concept of things).
Will this be possible? Will we be limited to haveing a phone with Android os for this?
I know there isn't mass support for google apps on WM but there is the gmail Java App, which i use. I don't use this, but i know its out there, and its an app to sync your google calender with your WinMo calendar. I'll see if i can spot it and drop a link for you here.

who uses google 'apps'? lol. google.com is good for searching, and that's about it. all their side software has never impressed me or been usefull.
agreed. I and the majority of the people using windows mobile don't give a **** about google apps. I want android to just simply be bootable and stable from my sd card. I really don't want to run it all the time as windows mobile is second nature to me now.

I second this.
Just wondering if anyone has thought of or better still started to build an XDA App Store.
I am thinking of an app we can all download to our phones, it will auto see what phone you have and only show those apps from XDA users, auto download updates of installed apps, auto download dependancies etc.
I have used an iphone hacked with cydia and such and it is much easier for downloading programs in this manner.
Just my 2 cents guys, I do hope we see something someday.
I know that you said that it should be XDA-specific, but another option is called App2Date.
Take a look here:
http://www.modaco.com/content/windo.../lend-your-support-to-a-generic-updater-tool/
I was thinking of making one myself, but I definitely do not have time to even start such a project. I'm fairly busy with other ones.
Its not quite what I imagined.
That program does the updates, but like cydia for a hacked iphone you should be able to download new programs as well.
I honestly don't think it would be too hard or dificult to make.
All we really need is an app to list the programs based on the device and wm version your currently running.
The only problem will be to find somewhere to store the apps. A solution could be a simple databased maintaned and hosted by XDA, that will list the program name, details, OS and device information (so you can get the correct version for your phone) and a direct download link to the cab file. This way the apps can be hosted anywhere and we can avoid having to run and pay for a huge data transfer of programs.
I can possibly help with the database if anyones interested in helping to write the actuall app. Then the listings can be maintaned by xda registered users.
Hi,
i am one of the developers of mobile2day.com an we have the possibility to provide a big database with applications mapped to several devices. So we can show only applications for a specific device.
We have allready a mobile solution running on http://mobile2day.mobi/en/usd/index.html where you can buy and download applications. Maybe we can think about to add beta software, too.
Please, if you are interested feel free to contact me.
I was owner of an iPhone before I bought my Touch Pro and besides the fact that the iPhone is not that good it has one big advantage: The AppStore
I would love that kind of store for WM Apps
OK.. allow me to express my frustrations of this enourmously integral app on any android powered phone.
1. I am unable to do predictive search on it
2. It always use strict search queries and does not show matching spellings on the apps or even similar apps that we may like.
3. The interface is terrible
4. No straightforward way to purchase apps like the Itunes with saved credit card details.
5. No screenshot of any apps in the apps detail page.
I also use the Iphone and the app store on Iphone is MUCH MUCH better as it does everything that Android market doesnt.
What other things do you think is wrong with this app?
There is a new version of Market coming with Donut, which should resolve at least some of your concerns (see http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2009/09/some-news-from-android-market.html ).
Not sure what you mean on point 4 - buying an app is very easy IMHO, and I've only ever entered my cc details once.
Regards,
Dave
Oh - forgot to add. My biggest issue with the Market are the comments.
There are far too many duff comments against applications where either the commenter has no idea what they are talking about, has not read the instructions, or is trying to make a "clever" statement to Google (e.g. all those comments about CyanogenMod).
The comment systems needs to be cleverer so that all this trash doesn't detract from the really useful comments.
Regards,
Dave
I hope they are fixing the search function.. the UI looks a little better in the video.
Easy now. I know the martket isnt as polished at the apple appstore but remember that apples appstore is a cashcow while this doesnt being in nowhere near the same revenue.
I believe Donut is available now, along with the new market app.

HAHAHA +1 for this one.
Been using the new market for 2 weeks now, it is better than the old android market, but still not 100%.
The most annoying things is the mini-gallery of "Featured" apps at the top.
When you use your finger to swipe them, your finger obscures the icons and more importantly the title of the "Focused" app, so you can't actually see what the name is.
Mind numbingly stupid.
Either the swipeable area needs to be vertically larger so you can swipe and not obscure the icon, and or the "focused" title should be moved above the gallery.. Can't believe no one ever tested it in the real world.
One more thing...
I live in Romania and i don't have access to payed apps....only for the free ones..... I would like to buy a navigation app and i can't....
That is because your region is not "Market Enabled" rather than an issue with the Market application itself. If you use the marker enabler (see http://code.google.com/p/market-enabler/ ) you should be able to effectively change your region to one where paid apps are available.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks Dave.
I'll try that and let you know.
One more question though....Do i need to root my hero for the market enabler to work?
I thought for sure this would have been asked; yet after searching for an hour, I've found nothing.
With the new Google Maps 5.0 out, allowing compass-rotation (showing the map based on your current heading) I wondered if there is a new API available to take advantage of these features?
I updated maps in the SDK but don't see anything new. How would one go about exposing these new v5-specific features in their own app?
Thank you in advance,
RKM
And why do you think you can use features from another apps in your own app?

I'm sorry if my post came across as if I expect to use features from other apps in my own app. That was not my intention. My intention was simply to ask a very simple question, that is..
Google, owning the Android OS, offers the API for "Maps". This API currently supplies the ability to render maps. Prior to v5, the rendering looked identical to what Google exposed to developers.
Google has updated their turnkey Maps app. As a result, the rendering (and the very foundation, now that it consumes vector data rather than tiles alone) has changed.
My *question* was simply whether this is passed along to the developer in some way, or whether the developer is limited to using the older tile-only infrastructure that also lacks auto-orientation.
If the answer is that the developer is limited, I'm fine with the answer. I certainly didn't mean to suggest that I should be allowed to cannibalize features from other's app, but merely was referring to what appeared to be a fundamental change in their Maps app, that I wondered whether it might pass along in their API, being that LBS/Maps is pivotal in the Android as a mobile development platform.
Ahh, sorry, now I know what did you mean
Google Maps doesn't use Maps API - these things are totally unrelated with each other. So answer is: no, you can't use vector maps in Maps API. Maybe someday Google will update Maps API as well.
Ah, okay. Although it's not the answer I was hoping for, at least I can put an end to my quest!
Thank you!
Hi all,
Ok in lieu of buying yet another sim card and device, i'm hoping to use the data connection on my PX6 Android Head Unit and GPS to act as some kind of tracker.
Other than Google Maps (which doesn't really work all that well and will involve multiple accounts to do it properly) and I tried MyCarTracks which, despite reading like it should do the job, only seems to track journeys. not current/last locations etc.
I'm sure it can't be that hard an app to do right, but does anyone know some good examples of them? preferably with no subscription (happy to buy the app)
Hi did you manage to find a suitable app?
kinda, i use home assistant and home so i installed the app on the client and use thats inbuilt tracking stuff. its not hugely ideal as its not really designed for tracking where you have been etc, but it works for what i wanted it to do.
