I want to but a gps software for the HD2 any suggestions for those already using your hd2 as a GPS. Can you provide some links as well thanks.
Copilot Live 8 seems to be the best. Very nice for only $30.
Cant post the link though, due to the forums T_T
The research has already been done:

I agree but telenav works on data right when copilot doesn't so their no competition here but still looking around I need a gps cradle or mount or what ever you call it. right now im not in a rush but i know the time will come where i do need a gps software.
I am using Garmin Mobile XT and very satisfied with it, except no TTS and Portrait display only.

For anyone who hasn't been watching the main development and hacking thread in XDA they've managed to get a working version of tomtom 7 off the new HTC Diamond and got it to work on other phones. This happend a few days ago I believe, maybe longer. That said, it hadnt worked on the Vogue untill now thanks to starbase64.
You can find the version of tomtom 7 that works with our phones here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/12398912...and_6.cab.html
http://www.megaupload.com/it/?d=6EF2ABE2
Also please find the direct link to the actual thread topic for this development here:

I had tomtom 6.03 installed with USA and Canada Maps ver. 6.75. I installed tomtom 7 which uninstalled tomtom 6 and installed 7 overtop.. booted up and my map worked fine. GPS actually connected way quicker then with 6.03.
(sidenote.... I use a bluetooth external GPS reciever as I am waiting for telus to get of their butts and release their rom update that will activate the internal gps)
The only thing I have noticed so far is that tomtom 7 is supposed to have the option of being able to change the navigation cursor.. ie an arrow to a car which it says it cant because theres no cursors so I'm sure a fix or something for this will come at some point. But all looks good. The fonts are a bit big as its for VGA but still great. The black colour bars are alot nicer then the blue.
It's been said before and I will say it again. Dont discuss anr warz or anything like that. No hacks or cracks or where to download maps from illegally. If you want a map. Go to tomtom's website!
Oh.. I have also had issues with this version of tomtom and tomtom home. It wont regonize that 7 is installed. Shows all my maps and voices and what not. This is a little frustrating as because it doesnt recognize in home you cant use the mapshare. One of the big perks of the upgrade. If anyone figures this out OR if its just me let me know!
I tried upgrading to tomtom home ver 2 but it wouldnt recognize it either.
Alright everyone... Here's the newest QVGA version of TomTom 7. Looks a little nicer on the Vogue. All the fonts are the appropriate size and what not.

I have build a pachage (look in my 4Shared TomTom folder) "TomTom_Navigator_7.450.9028_QVGA_without_installation.rar".
Extract on your SD Card and start "TomTom Navigator.exe".
TomTom must never again be installed.
This pack is without voices, you can find voice in my 4Shared TomTom folder.
Thanks "minty1978" for the QVGA Pack, is faster on Hermes.

Installation was fairly simple. I just copied the files over to my Touch and booted tomtom back up. Also check out the custom car icon files he has. What you have to do (took me a little research to figure it out) was where ever you installed your tomtom program. Mine was "\program files\Navigator" Make a folder called "art" and then a subfolder called "cars" Then put the car icon files you want inside that subfolder. When you boot up tomtom you can then change the icon of the direction arrow.
Edit: Here's some sites to download the car cursors as well

Is Google Navigator going to be a descent solution for us? Or is this going to be the best?
Of course I have no idea, as I'm waiting for Sprint US to get me my fancy new ROM update as well. So I haven't even had the opportunity to search around and play yet, using an external.
Hopefully today at 11:00am. Have to wait and see. Not holding my breath.

well googl's free.. I dont believe it has 3d map views although it does have satelite.. which is a perk. I'd say tomtom is a little more advanced then googlemaps for sure. 3d driving view ... voice guidance... thousands and thouands of poi's, easy menus etc etc. If you havnt used tom tom before you'll be pleasantly suprised how easy it is to use. Then again Tom toms been making stand alone units (PNA's) for years and years so they sort of have been working at it a long while now where as google maps is new to the game. I use both Navigon and tom tom and find them to be the best for what I need. With google map you can triangulate your position with cell towers too.. tomtom... nope. you NEED GPS for it to work

Last time I looked Google Navigator was like $60 bucks.
http://www.pdafun.net/
And I thought it had all the 3D maps, Driving Directions, voice command turn by turns and all that jazz too...??
Google Maps isn't really a navigation package, nor is Live Search IMHO.
I think you may be replying about the wrong application...ALthough I do think it's really weird for someone to charge $60 for a front end using the free google database, but hey; whatcha gonna do...
It almost like a Google Earth for WM6 devices...No...
Very true... Duh.. I was thinking about google maps. I haven't tried google navigator. I think last time I went to go try they didnt have a trial and I wasnt about to pay for something without knowing how well it worked. This threads going to get off topic quick. Tomtom 7.. download and try and you will love it!

I just checked that pdafun link, and there is a free trial, although I have to agree...$60 for a front-end on a free set of maps is pretty expensive. Unless they have tts (haven't researched it yet).
How do you switch TomTom 7 over to english?
Ah yes... I forgot about that.. Here's what you have to do..
I should have remembered but yes, the QVGA version I posted is set to, well I dont remember what language actually...But its not english. There seems to be two ways to get it to english.
The first is simply to delete the file [navigator.cfg] which I'm fairly sure is in whatever directory you are installing tomtom 7 to. That said you can probably just NOT move it over into the directory. Before I discovered that deleting this file would make the english the default I did this.
Here's the method I figured out
Once the map screen has popped up tap the screen once, the bottomn left icon with a wrech is what you then have to press. A new page will pop up. Push the bottom right icon (a blue arrow) 5 times. On the last page you should see an icon with 3 flags.. it will be the top left icon. Press this once. Then you'll have the option of changing the language.
Change it to english or whatever you want it to be and you are set!
This brings up another possible issue I never thought about though untill now. If for whatever reason you cant boot up tomtom because its in some other language and you have to go through a set up in another launguge (I imagine if its the first time loading up it SHOULD give you the option of choosing the language before hand but if it doesnt) maybe install that VGA version and get the set up and what not, everything the way you want it THEN copy of the QVGA files. This may not even be an issie at all but if it should happen to someone its an idea on how to get it done!
Hope this helps!
Your trick for deleteing the navigator temp file worked great. Do you have any suggestions for getting TT7 to read my TT6 maps. It keeps saying maps not found.

I too had it working with my version 6.75 maps. What version of maps do you have installed? If its older then the 6.75 perhaps they wont work. That said, if you have to upgrade then I would just upgrade to the latest ver 7 maps.
Weird, I have 6.75 also. My map folder is named "USA and Canada 675_1409". How does that compair with everyone?
I noticed that if you edit the Currentmap.dat file and redirect it to my map folder it still won't work.. Its weird TomTom 6 works fine.
I had problems with it not finding my maps. So I got some new ones and it worked fine instantly...
Just a question. Has anyone gotten Tomtom home 2.3 to work with their vogue yet? I've had no luck at all. I've been checking the main thread on this in the development area and alot of people are having issues getting their phones to connect.. While some connect just fine. I havnt read anything in there though from other Vogue users. In order to use the mapshare you need to be able to connect to tomtom home 2. So this would be great if we get it working OR if someone has it working maybe they could tell us what they did.
Thanks!
Anyone be able to download one free map from tomtom.com?

6xx maps won't work, you have to get the new 7xx map.
Also, you need to activate the maps as well. Tomtom 7 increased the security.
does this file work w/the vogue internal gps? I'm using TomTom_Navigator_7.450.9028_repack2.cab that works with my maps, but doesn't pick up my GPS. (it works great on a friend's mogul)
Needing help again from my fave community ....
Long story made short; I'm Italian but now live in Egypt, some of you may or may not know that Egypt prohibited any kind of gps map.
what I was looking for was a gps application that would tracK and\or record my route, to then reproduce it as if on a map ( turn left, right etc....)
Is there any app (maybe tomtom or igo or garmin ) capable of doing this.
I searched and found a prog called trackr! but 1 its format is .gpx (not compatible with tomtom for ex.) plus it does part of the job online !
thnx in advance everybody !
EDIT: I read around and it seems igo can record ur route and of course guide u back through it...yet it won't launch without a map, is there a base map of africa for example ? , i really know there is no egypt map, i just want to record my "offroad" routes!
You can get fitness apps that will track where you run or cycle via gps (cant remember names off the top of my head just now sorry) they track where you run/walk/cycle and I guess go by car (?)... not sure if they are what you are after but sounds like it might be...
thnx for the reply...really don't know if that will help cause actually i don't know if those will give any kind of "voice" assistance like a standard gps ....again thnx
Hi,
I was looking for GPS Software a couple of month ago. I needed a tool for tracking and calibrating an image (maps, pics and so on). So you can scan a paper map and bulid your own map.
I only found one program. It called GLOPUS. (www.glopus.de) But it is only aviable in german. But it hasn't got any voice command or navigation function. It just shows the route on the selfmade map and other POI (if you have the coordinates).
Bye
donpepe23
wow....pity it's in german cause that sounds gr8...thought yet far from what i need, i'm sure somewhere there is a program that would just track my route to a place and guide me back to it
I tried another app "trackme" I think maybe this is what i need but its not working, it gives a net framework error though i', on touch-it 4.1 rc1 rom which has it pre-installed !!
I dont think it will be trouble if I use my X1 with Garmin in Egypt... do you??
Lots of friends from Egypt are getting thier Mobiles from outside because of the stupid GPS ban... I dont get it why is it banned there while I can still see everything on google maps!
no it will not be trouble, but u'll find no maps ...that's the whole point ....i really don't get why their banning it, that's not my problem, i just want to have fun with my gps !!
Hi folks,
I am wanting a decent GPS software for my touch diamond..
which one would you lot recommend?
thanks
I've heard google maps has gps support in settings, windows live has it, and if you want the kind when the lady talks to you you can get TomTom or iGo. Im sure there are more...
Whichever one you choose just remember to search for it, theres been tons of threads on how to get the specific app to work on the diamond properly.
thanks for the reply..
yes I meant sat nav to be precise lol
I have google maps on it but thats no good for me since I dont use and pay for the internet unless its my wi-fi at home, no good when im outside!
tomtom still the best would you say?
try GarminXT..works good..
TomTom= least amount of memory and ok visuals
IGo8=uses lots of memory but stunning visuals
Tomtom does the job!
cheers peeps,
I will try and see which one i can get hold of..
in the meantime, i found this link for the IGO8:
http://revver.com/video/992123/igo-8-htc-diamond-test/
it might be useful for those of you, like me, who wants to see how the sat navs are on the touch..
also, wats GarminXT like in terms of memory usage??

Hey guys! first off i wanna say thank you for helping with some problems ive had with my TP2 and providing me with some killer .Cabs!! But i have a question. I am currently running Mobium for GPS and its great but its gonna expire. Is there any crack/keygen for this program or a GPS that i can use that works just as great? I tried aMaze and cant get it to work probably because of my location. It just seems to wanna work for Chicago and im in Central Illinois. Google Maps is laggy as hell and isnt always right on directions. Mobium's turn by turn and the voice says the streets and everything haha but im a broke college student who cant pay for it (just yet. lol). Any tips would be helpful. Also my Weather on my Today screen cant seem to pinpoint my location correctly. I have US Cellular as a provider. Its great when im in Chicago but not here. Also any tips on improving battery life and overall proformance of the phone? Thanks for any info!
first off I wouldnt go around asking for a keygen or a cracked program on this site, pretty bad idea to ask for warez here. as far as free GPS i like google maps and also live search mobile. if you want to improve performance and battery life i suggest getting phm reg editor (free) or total commander (free) and search for TP2 reg edits either here or use the google. happy hunting!
I like tomtom as a GPS app but you will have to purchase maps...
tweaks try ADVANCED CONFIG or BSB TWEAKS
power try LumosWizard for the backlight and WMlonglife for signal
GPS.....looks like you already tried all the free ones, lay down some money for a good program like garmin or tom tom...or if your really good you can dig up a torrent file....(google)
later....

I am having trouble finding a good working turn by turn gps navigation app (such as tom tom) which also works on the HD2....
any help/ advice ?
Thanks in advance...
TomTom works fine on HD2.
Navigon MN7, Copilot.
what versions ? and what are your radio/rom/ wm version info's, please ?
iGO, Garmin XT...
Tomtom works fine for me too...
*edit* ttn 7.917 at the moment, probably change that to 7.918 once I get the inclination to transfer the files... Radio in my sig...
Igo works fine for me. Sometimes you need to set the GPS device port to 4 before it will pick up the internal GPS hardware.
I use this. It is fantastic.

I've got Navigon MN7 and GF is trialling Copilot8, routing is similar but we both like the MN7 interface better.
Copilot also waits until just after you turn left/right before telling you to "turn left/right shortly" which is a bit confusing.
Copilot is good VFM tho'
are there any free equivalents ?

AFAIK there is no free turn-by-turn navigation for WM.

If you do a search on this site you will find a link to the TomTom v916 program for the HD2. The program is free, but you have to buy the maps.
You could always go to the ROM section and flash an official HTC ROM, as this comes with co-pilot. I have no idea how much the maps cost or it is a subscription as I don't use it.

Co-Pilot ranges from £26.99 to under £100, dependant on the number of maps you buy.

Yes, anything that involves GPS + leaving your screen on for an extended period of time will use the battery fast. Get a car charger...
