Hey.
Im kind of tired of converting from avi to MP4 just to watch a episode of a show or a movie on my TD2. Is there any program that can play AVI files?
I tried the program "TCPMP" but it didnt work.
coreplayer, but dont forget to convert the files for your screen resolution

Ive tried encoding a few movie clips to watch on my Hermes I've tried mp4 and avi but just get an error message, file type not supported.
Whats the correct file type? cam records in mp4 and plays back, why not my conversions?
Thanks, Chris

can i not just convert a video file to mp4 or the correct file type and play it through windows media that cam on the device?
Depends on what you are using to encode the video. The WMP may not have the decoder. Although, AVI movies all have the same *.avi, all AVI movies can be different, depending on what encoder you used to encode the video and the audio. Hence, not all player is able to play all AVI movies. I think it goes relatively the same to MP4 also.
Anyway, what format are you trying to convert. You can go Microsoft homepage and download their Windows Media encoder to encode your stuff into WMV format which should play nicely on your phone.
I have been using Xilisoft MP4 convertor, converting from .avi to .mp4
I will try out the Windows Media encoder and encode into WMV format.
Thanks for the info
converted ok but its not full screen when selected..! any ideas?
its ok sorted it out...!!!!!!!!!

Try this. I use it to reduce the file size by reducing the resolution for my videos. The website says it will convert MOV files.

Not sure if TCPMP will play it, but you could always convert the quicktime file into another format.
I use http://www.zamzar.com to convert files to mp4 or 3gp that will play on my phone.
I have tried to play some AVI files on my phone using TCPMP, and I can get the sound to play just fine but it won't play any video at all. Any suggestions to why this might be?
i remember just dragging n dropping avi movies on my Blackberry bold ..i can just play the movie and enjoy it.
but on X1..the Windows media player says 'cannot play the file'
why?
isnt it supposed to be more friendly with such formats?
NO..i am not willing to pay for a software just to play a world famous .avi format.
avi
simple answer is NO you can not play avi's out of box. you have a couple options....either re-encode the video to another format or dl a different player. I like coreplayer and i know alot of other people like it as well. some people just get the divx player but you have to know what was used to encode the video as avi is only the container file and not the encoder.
most of my videos are DivX encoded...
so is it possible to install DivX codec on X1 and then play those files?
really sad but..i thot i can just drag n drop the movies on my mSD and watch
yeah using coreplayer or TCPMP
not sure if the codecs works with windows mobile media player though
but those 2 players does the job
Okay thanks a lot for the quick response guys.
i got hold of Coreplayer....just wanted to try.
it works..i just dragged n dropped some TV shows and movies ..and they work fine
i have yet to see such an awesome clarity on a mobile phone.
this is even better than bold because i can see the movies in widescreen and the contrast is superb
hey people,
just a quick question, what the deal with Divx player and avi files.
after a minute or so it starts to stutter (video and sound)
what you think stepping over on mp4 would be beter?
greetz gunz
oke figured it out my self.
changing to mp4 solved the stuttering
I have the same problem. Did you convert your .avi to .mp4, or just got new files already in .mp4? If you converted, mind telling how?
Did you use the AVS Converter? I just saw an add for that.
Use "mp4forhd" to convert
And than htc player to play
