I am having a problem accessing some particular email accounts on my X10. I use a few emails accounts, all of which have worked fine until today. Now, for some reason, I can't access any email accounts that I use with my domain name. From today, every time I try to connect to the mail server through 3G I get a "unable to open connection to server" error. I can connect to these accounts fine through wifi.
I contacted my domain host and they assured me there was no problem on their end. They gave me various ports to try and a direct IP address to use as the mail server, but nothing works. For some reason, from today I can't access any of these mail accounts on 3G, only wifi, which is very annoying.
All of my other accounts work fine, one of which is another domain hosted account. Has anybody had any problems not being able to connect to mail accounts through 3G? Were you able to find a solution? Thanks.

You have to replace the "x" 's
Thanks for the info, but unfortunately I couldn't find any help with that thread. It seems that the servers of my web host don't like my IP address my X10 is using and won't connect most of the time. It won't connect to any of the websites I have hosted with them or any of the mail servers, but can access any other site and mail server just fine. I'm having them look into it, but I'm not sure exactly what the problem is. It's weird that only their servers are affected.
Is there any way to manually update the IP address the X10 is getting?

Are you connected via WiFi to your own internet gateway at home, or are you connected via GPRS?
via GPRS/EDGE
Try an alternative smtp server for your outgoing mail and see if that makes a difference.
does anyone know any alternative smtp server for aol? Im currently using smtp.aol.com thanks in advance
anyone? please help...cant send emails for a week now.
bump..i've seen a few people lost on howard forums that this has been an issue with aol smtp servers...can anyone confirm this?
i'm having the same problem with sending emails
I'm having the same problem - In fact, I have the same problem when using WiFi on my home network, while my home computer using Outlook (with the same settings) running on the SAME WiFi network connects to AOL's SMTP just fine.
I'm stumped.
I can connect my device to the in-house Wlan and I get assigned an IP address like it should. I am able to browse the net (IE) using the Wlan and I can even go to the HTTP webmail site but when I set up a POP3 e-mail account I get the error message that I cannot connect with the current settings. Suggestions?
The other strange thing is that I am able to login on a local server using Terminal Services, but I can only connect to the IP address, not the hostname.
Perhaps I should mention that I have an own domain so the mailbox I'm trying to connect is a completely seperate mailbox and should work 'native' with POP3 port 25 settings. This shouldn't be a problem as far as I can see, but it still doesn't work...
I did some more testing, the weird thing is that I can send e-mails using the WLAN connection, but cannot receive them. The connection towards the server seems to be good (I didn't use seperate settings for SMTP) so DNS seems to be correct as well.
Right, I'm not under the impression a terribly large population of users are dying just to solve my problem, but since I located the source of the problem I thought I'd post it here for other users to find.
The problem I was faced with had actually nothing to do with the WiFi at all, it was the POP3 server that was the problem. The connection was fine, sending the mails was fine it's just that the POP3 daemon of the Direct Admin hosting control panel (vmpop3d-e) is unable to work with Windows Mobile 5 due to some kind of problem I don't even begin to understand (nor would I want to).
If you have your own domain and your hoster is running the Direct Admin control panel you won't be able to use the e-mail POP3 function. Instead, use the IMAP4 function which does work.
DA Forum PDA topic
when you set up your mailbox (menu - tools - options) go to the 3rd screen and click options. There you tell it what connection you want. I'd be willing to bet thats where your problem is.
E-mail client doesnt work on my wizard eather. I can receive mail, but sending it is impossibl. I think I tried everything.
If anyone have any suggestions what can I do please tell me.

@primossz, you're pretty active on this forum
You need to first install the client software provided by your're ISP. So if you use T-mobile you can let T-mobile send the parameters via SMS to yor're cellphone. Just login to your're ISP provider for that on the WWW.

hi to everybody,
kindly tell me how to configure the outlook email in my htc touch2.
i'm using my company email id. is it possible to configure company email id in outlook settings. its showing "sync error".
kindly help me
I have made it for my company Exchange server. I put my [email protected],com, then put my pass, i dont put domain name, only server address: mail.company.com.
After that it must ask you what do you want to sync and will begin syncing. If that doesnt work for you, you may have problem with connection settings.
Sync Error sometimes also happens if you don't have the certificates installed. Try installing the certificates and sync again.
Server address
to find your your server address,
Connect up to your company email via VPN on your PC, go to your inbox and the address in the address bar e.g.
https://***companyservername***/Remote/default.aspx
is your server address
setup your VPN on your phone as well, and you should be ready to go

Find out the public IP address of your company's mail servers (ask your administrator), use that as the server address.
You may have to ask your mail administrator for some assitance, it depends how they have set exchange up. The good thing is, it's only a few configuration changes, unlike having to buy and install new software like you would with Blackberries...
I hooked mine up to my webmail server
and i did my gf's like this too
If you have company webamail you can input the url as your server address (assuming this has beenset up)and use your AD usenrname and password.
Help! my email is not working on htc snap.
I am connected via home wifi network. internet explorer mobile and youtube app are working fine.
email client gets some form of connection from the internet for sure because when i enter the email address and password (not from a major provider that is preinstalled) it shows my company name in the title of the email service (again, its an small independent site so this must have been downloaded).
then when i try to Send/Receive email, i consistently get an error message. it says internet access not properly configured, check Connections.
i am connected via wifi. 3G / 2G data is not being used at all (all the access points from the APN deleted to avoid using cell phone network data for now)
so my question is, why does everything except email work on wifi? even after the email client correctly verified my password, and downloaded at least the name of my domain name's company for sure over wifi (thats the only available connection). why is the actual email downloading not working??
i also tried my gmail and yahoo accounts, and they didnt work, manual and automatic configurations.
Hey
I have problems connecting my account with Email app :S
I get this each time:
http://postimage.org/image/74zbd2pvn/
I was logged into a large hospital's complimentary WIFI service as a "guest" recently. Most apps that required Internet access worked just fine. The exception was the email app. I got a message similar to what you posted. Yahoo mail worked perfectly, however.
The strange thing is that the email app works just fine when connected to most other wifi signals. I have only observed this problem at when connected to this particular wifi source.
Strange
That's because most workplace has internet filtering on. Blocking personal emails are common practice.
For OP's issue, to connect to Hotmail/Live accounts, you must manually configure it as exchange account type. Use m.hotmail.com as your mail server.
