Hey folks,
Stock HD2 - both hubby and I (buy 1 get one free deal) have expereinced flakyness with the data/cell radio - sitting still, the readout cycles between 3G and E with the same number of bars...
Is there an upgrade to the radio that will provide some stability? And - is it even possible to flash the radio driver without flashing a fully baked ROM?
Thanks!
well you still need hardSPL to flash the radio..you can flash a radio, then flash a 'stock' rom, but I'm thinking there isn't one for the HD2..you'd have to wait for the first upgrade from T-Mobile to try to do something like this.
crazy that this would be unstable! I would check you're setting or maybe get some advanced config tool and see if you can enable 3G only..
After doing a factory reset on mine, it stays in 3G for 20 minutes and then switches to Edge indefinitely. This is frustrating. I changed the band to WCDMA and it stays in 3G now, but I shouldn't have to do that.
The wife's HD2 is perfect. It's always on 3G. We got it as a bogo special also, so it should have the same everything.
The only thing she doesn't have is "HSPL" installed. Besides that, I never flashed any roms or anything. I just have HSPL there just in case I ever want to play with it.
Can HSPL cause this issue? LOL...noob...

Okay, I have never had a problem like this until now. I recently had to replace my VX6800 because of a cracked screen. When I got the replacement, I updated to the newest Radio and cooked a ROM based on 20270. Everything works flawlessly until I am at work. I worked at a power plant where the reception in buildings is very little. The company purchased and installed a few cell phone boosters with the external antennas and the whole nine yards. Before this new phone, new Radio, and new ROM I was able to use the signal from the repeaters, now I can't. My phone sees the signal, but will not use it for data or voice. I can't even dial *228. I can walk outside and use my phone no problem. I am totally confused at what to do next. Anybody have any ideas or suggestions? I am also running PRL version 51056.
Well if you want to experiment, flash on Radio version 3.42.40 via MicroSD (since it's SPECIFICALLY made for this device, and not ported over)
See if you notice any difference doing that.
What were you running before?
That's excactly what I am doing now. After having posted this thread, I am reading more about the .50 and realized that is was from the Vogue. I am in the process of flashing to .40 now. I will let you know.
I downgraded my Radio to 3.42.02 and it still doesn't work. Any other Radio suggetions?
I've unlocked a T-Mobile MyTouch 3G (32B) for AT&T. I rooted my phone yesterday purely out of spirit for experimentation. I've installed CyanogenMod-4.2.8.1, found on the website. I'm trying to connect to the market, but no type of data connection is being made.
The unusual part is that I have full signal strength. E or G sometimes pops on, but then drops off. I've quadruple-checked the APN settings, and they're fine. However, I did notice at one point the password had been deleted. I am aware that my phone version is not able to get on 3G band (although I'd like to find a hardware mod~)
I'm almost certain it's the Cyanogen ROM simply because before rooting, I had no data problems. Seems even a WiFi connection won't give me data. I've searched the internet to see if anyone else has had this problem, but it doesn't seem so. Any ideas?
Disabled WiFi and I have data. Apparently the two don't get along well. Just noticed an update to the ROM, so we shall see what will happen!
Or, if anyone has any suggestions on an alternative ROM, I'm not looking for anything too fancy (the MyTouch is serving as pure novelty at the moment; HTC Fuze is my primary phone). Speed and battery optimizations are most prefered, bluetooth/USB tethering a plus, and if it runs aHome or Home++ without a hitch, I'd be content.
I just upgraded to CM 4.2.9.1 on my MT3G 32B and am having data issues. Could it be a coincidence? Could it be T-Mobile upgrading to HPSA? Or could it be CM?
It's possible to be the ROM, as I'm on the AT&T network. I'll give the updated ROM a test as soon as I get some time to it.
Try reflashing radio. http://developer.htc.com/google-io-device.html
Works fine on my 32B Magic. Tried running fix_permissions, wiping and reflashing?
Got the same problem on my G1 with 4.2.9.1
When Wifi is active, after about 10 minutes i have no data connection anymore.
If i disable wifi i don't get this problem
i too have had this problem on my three magic 32a. i rebooted this morning and it went back to normal though. have only seen it once so i can't really comment on the cause. typically i have wifi always on and location by networks off...
How did you install CM?
Did you install the HTC 1.6 rooted base first, then the CM image after without re-booting?
You have to the first time you install CM. You don't say whether you did or didn't.
Did you remember to configure the APN correctly???
maybe related to instal issue?
I have the same issue but did "install the HTC 1.6 rooted base first, then the CM image after without re-booting". However upon booting into Cyanogen, I couldn't get past the "touch the android" screen and thus had to boot back into recovery mode and clear all data. After reboot I was able to pass the touch the android screen, but perhaps that wiped the 1.6 base settings?
Do I need to re-install, what if i have the same problem with getting past touching the android again?
I haven't tried updating the radio, but will try that first.
mobile network data
Found it: looks like toggle for mobile network data is turning it self off. Other than to conserve battery / airplane mode is there ever a reason to have it off? (is it bad to have on with WiFi?)
thanks.

Moved to General (Q&A)
Should of stayed with t-mobile.
Flashed T-Mobile 1.43 to generic 1.66 which has improved the loud call volume and distortion greatly. But the network now says G rather than 3G are they the same?
Does this mean the network settings have changed. I have selected T-Mobile as the network internet.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks
3G is as you expect 3G, G is GPRS which is deffinately NOT 3G speed.
Chances are the rom you have installed has 3G mode off by default. Open Comm Mannager and you should find some toggle switches, one for data connection, and another for 3G. If the data connection one is on, but 3g is 'off', you will get G or E (for edge), but with the 3G one 'on' you should get H (HSDPA) or 3G
Tlooked through the settings and there is nothing that switches 3G on or off.
Anyone else seen this?
Thanks.
Suggestion:
Flash to Dutty's HG v8, which is based on the t-mobile ROM and has this option (and is much better than 1.66 stock, IMO)
I don't know about you since you are on T-Mobile, and if there is a 1.66 ROM released explicitly for the T-Mobile net, but I'll share my knowledge on this:
I'm located in Sweden and use the HD2 on the Tele2 net. I also upgraded to 1.66 and got the exact same problem as you.
I tried the 2.07 rom and the problem remained, however after 2-3 hours I finally got 3G connection.
The problem is that both 1.66 and 2.07 comes with newer radios. These Radios are the reason I can't use 3G at least. I downgraded the Radio to 2.05.51.05_2 and it all works fine for me now. I don't know if this is operator related or hardware related and hence I'd like to know if the 1.66 ROM you installed is explicitly released for the T-Mobile net.
If that's the case I'll probably need to contact my vendor since I'll probably not be able to use any of the newer Radios, which frankly sucks. Please let me know!
I have the 1.66 on Virgin UK (Tmobile and the 3G has not dropped at all.
Don't know if that helps or confuses ?

+1
Ild rather have the choice, than no choice at all. Dutty's ROM has been the only flashes ive needed since T-Mobile stock ROMs.
The ROM is the latest 1.66 on the HTC website. I asked T-Mobile about it but the person did not really know. They asked if the internet connection was fast, but since I've had the phone it has been patchy. It seems reasonably fast today. We have two other T-Mobile phones, HTC Hero and Samsung Galaxy and both these also show the G and these are non flashed standard as bought.
I'm a bit nervous about using cooked ROMs.
Andy
Went over to Hungerford this morning and 3G came up so it must be a network/location issue and nothing associated with ROM 1.66.
Good to know all functionality is still there.
Thanks for all the replies.

As I said, in my case it took a couple of hours (no matter location) and the 3G appeared. Could you do a soft reset when you get the 3G at Hungerford and see how long it takes before you get 3G again?
I have been reading mixed views about whether the the T9193 loses 850mhz compatibility once a cooked rom has been flashed to this model. Some say they lose the nextg connectivity and registry tweaks are required to fix this, whilst others say it is simply a hardware issue and that any rom can be flashed, keeping 850 connectivity. I bought this phone purely for its 850 mhz ability, but i hate the telstra bloatware. Can someone please confirm this for me.
Regards Romeash
I have a Telstra HD2 and use it in the US on AT&T 3G(850) with NRGZ28's rom without any problem. HSPL and ROM were the only changes I made.
Brad
where are you australia
my t9193,running v1.50 ozrom and 2.08 radio
there is a telstraband cab floating around that puts all the 850 setting back in the phone
works a treat in hobart
Yeah I've flashed several times and played with the band settings in registry. Changing the band frequencues in registry didn't make any difference so don't worry about it.
Radios did make a difference
I flashed to this ROM- RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.66.405.2_Radio_CRC_Signed_15.32.50.07U_2.07.51.22_2_Ship
this got rid of the telstra stuff and seemed to give the best reception

Yep, I can confirm that too. I kept the Telstra ROM on my phone for almost an hour and a half before I got sick of it and flashed to something better. I have had no problems at all with connecting to HSDPA (and I've tried at least 5 flavours of cooked ROMS, and 6 or 7 different radios). Radio 2.08.50.08_2 works best for me, with full reception bars all the time.
The registry fix allows the 850 band to be displayed in the band options, but this is purely cosmetic and has no affect on the phone's ability to sync with the network. I haven't encountered a single problem despite numerous (and for a while daily) upgrades, so you shouldn't need to worry too much.
I would definitely recommend sticking to the HSPL and flash-overoUSB route though - much easier to recover if anything does go wrong during flashing.....
thanks alot guys, much appreciated. now i know i can go through with the flash. first i gotta get it repaired under warranty. the audio manager keeps crashing every time i try to play music through the music. ive used different micro sd's so i know its definitely not the cards. must be the phone.
Hi i just brought and HD2 and can not get on 3G and I know I am in the 3G area. I thought by flashing to froyo's build it will work, but I am still having the same problem. I checked and made sure it is not in 2g mode either.
anybody have an ideal on whatis going on?
A OS ROM flash/Android build wouldn't really change your 2G/3G connectivity... unless it has a radio packaged with it. (HD2 compatible Android builds do not come with radios)
I would suggest going to the Radio thread and trying a different one, see if that works better for you.
just make sure it's a x.x.50.x radio!!!!!
(2.12.50.02_2 is the latest... been working really well for me here in the greater Seattle area)
yeah I updated to the latest radio also, same one as you and still nothing
I had similar after flashing to a new ROM, turns out it was defaulting my "Data Connections" to off, which killed out my 3G. soft resets, etc didnt help, took me 2 days to figure it out and finally the guy at the tmobile store who had the exact same problem prior helped me out. Worth checkin if you have something similar.
^^^how do I go about doing this? Where is it under?
