Back up problems for contacts - HD2 General

I've been diggin my hd2 and am going thru a learning curve as I came from android g1.
I just installed a custom rom and am enjoying some of the new features but went thru a mild panic trying to get the sync setup so I could get my contacts back. Finally figured it out and proceeded to set the phone up the way I like.
But I didnt want to go thru the contacts ordeal again, so I tried to run My Phone to back them up but it wont backup the contacts unless I turn off active sync. But whenever I do that, my contacts disappear from the phone. Quite frustrating.
Android had Nandroid back up to restore the entire phone. Is there something comparable in win 6.5.
Or how bout a good back up app for contacts, bookmarks etc etc.
Thanks guys !

vcard expert can backup/restore your contacts from a vcf file.

Problem with contacts and activesync

hi all.
i have a few things id like to ask:
i recently just upgraded my wizard, then downgraded to the same rom again.
i used spb backup.
apparently it didnt save any of my contacts nor my text messages. (any ways to do that for the future?)
anyway, im sure they are on my activesync, but for some reason, it refuses to recognise my device as the same one and wants to pair it as a new one. new one means no contacts. is there any way i could just reload it and get my contacts?i removed outlook as i hate it, and had thought id done everything that needed to be done!
Thanks for helping

SPB Backup...urgent help...anyone

i have a 2Gig memory card that i used with my first touch, i back up my info to the card using SPB back up...then one day my touch started to bug out and took it in the repair store and the coulnd fix the phone so they gave me a new one.
here is the problem, they were not able to get my contacts out so i lost all my numbers.
Do the contacts get backed up with the SPB back up app? if so is there any way to extract them from the card?
i put the card in my PC and i do see the file "spb back up" with the date and all but i clik it and it does not open or recognize the program..
please help me get my numbers back
thanks.
put the card in the phone and try to restore from there. you might have to reinstall SPB backup first. the only way to know if your contacts are there is (1) you selected to back them up or (2) when you restore your backup they are available to you. if you do recover your contacts, i suggest you use MS Outlook (on your PC) to backup your contacts. once there, you can create an Excel .csv file as a backup. good luck.
the thing is that the first touch was not working due to probably a bug of some sort....that problem got backed up into the back up file...
i took my first touch in the store, they fixed the software problems by doing a complete reset...then i put the card back and did a back up restore and the bug came back. so i took it back and said the problem was back.
so i dont want to do the restore again on my new one in fear of messing it up again with whatever software problem is in there.
thanks.
judging from your comments, someone at the sprint store performed a hard-reset and gave you your phone back. correct? if yes, you can perform the hard-reset yourself... now, if you can restore from the backup and sync your contacts to MS Outook, then you can get your contacts back. afterwards, you can perform a hard-reset, and resync your contacts back to your phone. i've done this dozens of times without problems. i can understand, however, if you're a little uncomfortable doing this... either way, use MS Outlook to recreate all your contacts, then sync them to the phone. it's easier doing on the PC vs. the phone! good luck.

Help me please, i lost everyone!!!

Hello all, I have a slight problem. I was going to do a fresh install on my phone with a nice new ROM. Things have been running slow and it was time for a change. I was trying to back my contacts up in outlook so I installed outlook 2007 on my pc. After that was completed I was going to sync my phone with outlook but activesync was not working correctly. When I went to change the settings in my phone, I got ahead of myself and ok'ed a command to delete the current sync on my phone. When this happened I lost all of my contacts. B/c I never got to sync them with my new outlook I do not have any on my pc. Is there anyway to get them back? Is it stored somewhere on the phone until a new sync is made? Please help!!!
I am running a DCD 4.1.2 ROM
Sorry but you have lost them. next time try something like PIMbackup.

I'm with this guy....I use Microsoft "My Phone" too....I like to mess with my phone and this program syncs everything that I need and stores it online. I can even access and make changes from my PC if I feel the need. Everytime I change my ROM I just sync it up and all my contacts, calendar etc are back on the phone!
Seem those guys never upgrade their phone, uh!
Every time you have to re-enter all config stufs (e.g. e-mails accounts & passwords, connections settings, and so on); everything can be saved by ActiveSync or My Phone EXCEPT those specific configs!!!
I just found CeRegistryEditor (link to ceregeditor.mdsoft.pl/?lang=en): it allows to backup & compare registry entries with file(s) by using ActiveSync connection.
Everytime you add/change some specific settings just compare entries with previously saved one and save it with mnemonic name; once you re-initialize your phone just load all saved keys, of course without forgetting to re-install all related programs, if needed!
Your phone will be just as you want in a couple of minutes. That's it!

Definitely SPB Backup.
Give that a shot... it's a costly bit of software... but completely worthy.
Sprite Backup is a must for anyone, especially for those who wants to do some tweaking.
sprite back up
Exactly 12 hours ago my Leo 's sence stopped launching and I was in a horrible time.I had collected 79 nice opera bookmarks and doing a hard reset should clean all of them !
spb back up was not the solution ,cause it can't back up favourites.and Microsoft my phone couldn't sync cause the wi-fi was dead ! so I beamed up Sprite back up tool from my old Hd .
and it selected percisely what I wanted...I think spb phone plus or suit has the same function for backing up favourites but SPRITE is perfect.
I want to back up my hd2 too, can anyone tell me how to use Activesync for backing up plz
Hi,
i think you can't use AS for backup. You could copy all the user-data and programm folders but not the registry entries. You need special backup software for this purpose. I know Spb Backup and Sprite. Although i ve registered bith i mainlay use Spb because it works better for me. I think it is worth his money.

Re: HD2 backup
Personally I store everything on the storage card - and use Jeyo Mobile Companion to backup and restore contacts, sms, call history etc prior to flashing... works like a charm...
And in conjunction with Microsoft My Phone - never lost anything so far... even able to recover my business mobile while roaming...

As with Android you need to set up a GMail account, so you can access the app market.
Set up a new exchange e-mail account on your WinMo phone - Use the details you used in the GMail account. Once it is set up, the GMail account will pick up your contacts when you sync the phone (via the phone's Activesync).
When you go into Android sync your Gmail account.
PIM Backup.

if you use hotmail, just use activesync/exchange connection on your android
I got a question, when you install the wp7 on the HD2, do you also lose files from the internal memory? like the camera software or the album software or everything from internal memory?
so which backup file can i use to save all those folders and files?
I tried SPB.
Downloaded it ok.
Ran it ok.
Then at the end of the process it crashed the phone.
Booted but sense wouldn't load at all. Start worked but irratic and laggy, settings didn't open.
Tried numerous soft resets but nothing worked.
Did a hard reset and used Microsoft MyPhone to restore contacts, tasks, SMS and calendar all perfect apart from havingbto resync contacts with facebook.
I did have to download all my apps and mods again and confit email etc. A real pain but didn't loose anything valuable,
MyPhone very useful and free.

Hello,
I use spb backup for over a year and it works more that perfect.
Maybe you are doing something wrong (although I can not imagine what can go wrong in such an easy installation). I have used it for numerous backups and restores. No problem at all. Spb Backup is Highly Recommended.

John

How do I keep contacts when loading new rom

I have a HD2 running a 3 month old Froyo with sense, I set up the contacts and phone numbers, if I decide to load a different distro of Android, will I loose my contacts.?
What is the best process to save or copy them, and then reload
Sync contacts with your Google account, easiest and simplest
Use your Google account for storing contacts.
mybackup pro, with it you can even restore call logs
WOW, you guys are good, thanks plenty of items.
I did the google thing and it even gave me back my old contacts from when I had a G1,, nice
There is anouther way.you can export your contacts to the SD and then when you load up your new rom you can import them back
