Restoring back to orginal rom - Hero, G2 Touch General

I've rooted my hero and have had a 2.1 sense rom on it for the last couple of days but have decided that i would rather go back to the orginal one and wait for the htc update.
Amd i right in think that i can download one of the rom of the HTC website and run it like normal and it will resotre my hero to default and un root it.

Why do you want to un-root?....
If you use the update thing from HTC, you will probably lose the custom recovery too.
Just install a stock ROM from Modaco's Stock ROMs + radios in update.zip format for GSM Hero .
You can also get rooted stock ROMS there.

Because i just want to have my hero how it was and if i'm having the stock rom as i may as well un root as the only reason i routed in the fisrt place was to be able to use a custom rom

But just think of the quality of custom ROMs that will be released once the official 2.1 is out!!!!!
If you want a stable 1.5 ROM to use until then, I recommend MCR3.2. I'v been using it since day one of me getting my HERO, no issues to complain about at all. Get it HERE
If not, then yeah, use the official HTC update, should put everything back to how it was when new.

Just to double check that running the update file off the HTC website will work as i'm going to unroot my phone now in preperation for the offical rom

Which Hero ROM?

Hallo all
I am currently using cynogen's 3.4.6 ROM and love it.
I want to try out a Hero ROM.
In your opinions, which Hero ROM should I try?
Thx for any info you all can give.
Wait a couple days and you will see 3-4 Roms pop up using the newly leaked release of the Hero Rom including a superhero version.

I agree, I tried out the new leaked one, and dang is it amazing. Just a tad bit buggy at the moment, however vast speed improvement and a very nice looking gallery application with that TouchFLO feel. I switched back to Haykuro 6.0.1 however for now just to wait until a more reliable version is released. Just a fair warning, I was unable to use Nandroid to restore, I got a boot loop for some odd reason no matter what I did. I had to start from scratch.
Did u have the new spl??
Yes, I use the new SPL.
I guess I shall wait then. THX!!
I tried out JAC's Hero ROM and it was BEAUTIFUL!!! REALLY slow though. Went back to Cynogen's.
Running JACs Hero 2.0 beta and a lot faster now. Still a lot of bugs but I'm sure they will be fixed in the next couple of days.
what spl did you use? which is the newest?

I used the newest SPL.
I followed the 2 SD card method listed in the SPL thread AFTER reverting back to JF's 1.43 recovery image and everything was done in minutes and working fine.

Best Rom for Hero

Hi, for the past 6 Months i have been a htc Magic owner but ive just recieved my Hero which i have now rooted. Its currently running a Modaco custom Rom formware 1.5 but i want an update. I normally use Cynogens Roms for my Magic, Can anyone recomend a good Rom for my Hero thats very stable please?
This one has issues I.E the backlight and screen never switch off. Its constantly on draining the battery to death. I was thinking of installing the generic rom on there so it can update automaticly when the provider releases the Rom. is that a bad idea?
Thanks you, and Merry Christmas!!
Merry xmas bud,
if i were u, knowing what i do now, i would continue with the MCR's...
v3.0 is spot on for me w/regards to having no bugs/issues... (also looks sweet with Ratcoms ''Clear as a bell'' theme http://www.4shared.com/file/166539476/ad6fb729/clear30.html )
If u wanna venture into the Android 2.0/2.0.1 realms, i played with most of them but they each lack ''core'' elements which is a must for me for day to day usage...
hope some of this helps.
Dickie.
thanks for that, i've been holding out for a 2.1 hero rom for a while now. I guess i may go with the modaco rom until htc get their act together with the 2.1 hero rom.
I have to say i'm massively disappointed with the hero support... i guess this is what happens when open source fragments!
thanks a lot!
If i install one of the generic roms off Modaco http://android.modaco.com/content/h...-24-11-hero-roms-radios-in-update-zip-format/ i will recieve the update earlier compared to the T-mobile carrier Rom wont i?
Thanks

not as far as im aware...
as with most custom roms, someone usually gets hold of a pre release, and base their rom on that before anyone receives it OTA or via the appropriate website. Then, when the official is released, they update it with the kernel etc from that... (with their tweaks etc...)

I use the latest generic HTC rom, i think its perfect, i had some issues with modaco 3.0, the most annoying being the device didnt remount the sd card after i unmounted it, i had to soft reset before it would read it again, the official rom is gr8 tho, its fast and stable, i havent had any issues to date

3UK will lock the Hero down.

Hi
I have rooted my 3UK HTC hero and running Hero21 community 1.7.
If the Hero gets an official upgrade to 2.1 then if I upgrade, 3UK will lock the Hero down.
I want the best of both worlds, I want to have the latest upgrade, but I don’t what the network provider
To lock it down.
Hywel
Dont upgrade to official,as soon as it is out most surely someone will port it.
Its just a matter of 1 or 2 days...

Hopefully this will alleviate some confusion about official/custom ROMs.
I'm not exactly sure how OTA updates work, but probably pretty similar to RUU's. An RUU is an executable that will flash several "ROMs" to your phone: Boot, Radio, Recovery, System and Data. It also appears to write to the SPL, but we don't care about SPL as much as we care about the Recovery ROM. Anyway, you run the RUU, it flashes all that to your phone as one big package, including overwriting our recovery ROM, and you lose root, probably forever. However, you can extract the ROM.zip from the RUU file and you see all the separate images that get written to your phone. With access to all the separate images, you can repackage them into an update.zip like we use to install custom ROMs.
You can turn an official ROM (from an RUU file) into a custom ROM in just a few minutes by manipulating a few files. (There are other threads dedicated on how to cook ROMs.)
So, if you think that there's some advantage to flashing the official RUU, there's not, because with a bit of reading and manipulating some files, you can flash your carrier's ROM without losing root/custom recovery.

Probably a few hours at most, depending on what time they release it.

The Rogers 2.1 Rom - Will I still be able to flash?

I read that the 2.1 update was released by Rogers but could not find any info if, like their Sense UI update, this would also install the perfect SPL.
Does anyone know if I can safely install their update?
Thanks
Edit:
Also, while I'm at it. If I want to upgrade, is it just a matter of installing the Rogers update or do I have to take additional steps? (I'm currently running CM6 with default radio and SPL).
Anyone at all?
Bump .....
Bump Wow, this type of question used to be answered in minutes .. now it takes weeks
I hear ya man no one ever replys :\
well your on cm6 no way to go back
but if you go to Theunlockr.net and go to android downloads > roms > magic
youll see a rom named RC rom
its based off of rogers 2.1 rom with sense but just added more tweaks
its also updated and ready to download at the developter tread
if we go back to CM6, meaning reverting back from perfect SPL, would the 911 glitch occur again?

Here is the link to download the original Aria ROM. Click on the "More" link to see the instructions to follow to flash the RUU.
http://www.htc.com/us/support/aria-att/downloads/
thanx for the reply.
1)if my aria is SEA version not under AT&T, is there a difference?
and
2) i've read somewhere from the forum that HTC Sync wont run on CM6, if i flash cm6 instead of liberated, can i still use HTC Sync to recover it back to original?
3) by flashing this rom, my phone will be like original out of the box? which allow me to claim for warranty? ( rooted or flashed will void warranty)
Thanks Again

OK sorry, this ROM file is for the AT&T branded Aria. I do not know where you would find the SEA version of the ROM.
It is true the HTC Sync cannot interact with CM 6.1 ROM at the application level to sync contacts and such, but you can still use HTC Sync to flash these HTC original RUU ROM files.
Hopefully someone else may be able to point you to the SEA original RUU ROM file.
I don't know what "SEA" is but this may be of some help to you and PM'ing the OP or posting in the thread someone may be able to help you...unless of course one of the RUUs from the first post is what you are looking for:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819610&highlight=stock+ruu
Edit: I guess SEA stands for southeast asia?
