Hi, for the past 6 Months i have been a htc Magic owner but ive just recieved my Hero which i have now rooted. Its currently running a Modaco custom Rom formware 1.5 but i want an update. I normally use Cynogens Roms for my Magic, Can anyone recomend a good Rom for my Hero thats very stable please?
This one has issues I.E the backlight and screen never switch off. Its constantly on draining the battery to death. I was thinking of installing the generic rom on there so it can update automaticly when the provider releases the Rom. is that a bad idea?
Thanks you, and Merry Christmas!!
Merry xmas bud,
if i were u, knowing what i do now, i would continue with the MCR's...
v3.0 is spot on for me w/regards to having no bugs/issues... (also looks sweet with Ratcoms ''Clear as a bell'' theme http://www.4shared.com/file/166539476/ad6fb729/clear30.html )
If u wanna venture into the Android 2.0/2.0.1 realms, i played with most of them but they each lack ''core'' elements which is a must for me for day to day usage...
hope some of this helps.
Dickie.
thanks for that, i've been holding out for a 2.1 hero rom for a while now. I guess i may go with the modaco rom until htc get their act together with the 2.1 hero rom.
I have to say i'm massively disappointed with the hero support... i guess this is what happens when open source fragments!
thanks a lot!
If i install one of the generic roms off Modaco http://android.modaco.com/content/h...-24-11-hero-roms-radios-in-update-zip-format/ i will recieve the update earlier compared to the T-mobile carrier Rom wont i?
Thanks

not as far as im aware...
as with most custom roms, someone usually gets hold of a pre release, and base their rom on that before anyone receives it OTA or via the appropriate website. Then, when the official is released, they update it with the kernel etc from that... (with their tweaks etc...)

I use the latest generic HTC rom, i think its perfect, i had some issues with modaco 3.0, the most annoying being the device didnt remount the sd card after i unmounted it, i had to soft reset before it would read it again, the official rom is gr8 tho, its fast and stable, i havent had any issues to date

i agree mate
My reason for doing this topic, is that i have tested roms, over a long period. My history is that i bought a used HTC Magic, it had a Hero Rom on it (Fata1ty) It was so full of bugs and errors, that after i while i started searching for alternatives.
I found the JacHero roms, and tried installing them according to the guides, but i couldn't, since they required Danger SPL and so on.
So i searched some more and came across MyHero (1.1.3) I installed it, and it worked surprisingly well.. I followed the updates until 2.05. But i found some bugs (Bluetooth didn't work!) So after a while i started searching again.
I then stumbled onto GyD's roms.. I Started with the 1.xx version, and updated until the latest 2.1.1, and this rom rocks on the stock spl and radio. Everything works and its has very little lagg. So i could actually have been stuck on that.
UpdateBut i decided to test some other roms, when i heard about the Android Eclair 2.1 coming out. I found Eugene373 and his Hero 3.1, which had been ported to 32a by ahmgsk. I had it on my phone a couple of days, but a lot of things didnt work (Like my language, danish, bluetooth, camera, and there was a few bugs, especially with the HTC apps) so i went back to GyD - But learning to use the xda forum taught me to check out devs statistics and i found that ahmgsk had ported some other roms, including the Expresso 2.0 and the SuperD. So i tested them - and that brought me to test Amon Ra's Ion and Cyanogens 1.6. I compaired the three roms (RAION1,6, Cyanogen 4.2.12.2 ahmgsk's ported SuperD) and i found that SuperD is the closest i can get to having a fully functional Android 1.6 rom.. Unfortunately it doesnt have HTC sense UI, and since i dont like the Sapphire Donut ui, i went further with my testing.
I read about CursorDroid a while ago, i saw that i had to flash radio and spl to use it, so i didnt go into that, since i had a bad experience trying to get JacHeroski 2.2 on my magic - I followed his guide on updating Danger SPL, unfortunately i somehow got the SPL for the 32b, and i bricked my phone.. I didnt like doing that again, but i felt that i had to try. And this i dont regret at all.. Its simply so fast, running so smooth and the guy is amazing. Updating the rom every day, and he responds to all the queryes he gets. I can recommend that all try this - Just follow Amon Ra's guide on upgrading radio and spl, and you cant do it wrong..
First postHi there - This thread is for sharing experiences with the developers rom's, not to ditch anyone, so i hope we can keep a good tone in here. I have tested the most of the rom's for the 32a, and i have tried changing SPL and Radio, and i have rooted a magic, from the latest HTC RUU..
In my experience there are two criterias for being a fast and stable rom.
-It has to support as many users as possible - This means multi language(HTC_IME, Locales and dictionaries from almost every country), no change of SPL and Radio.
- It has to have limited bugs, and Cam, bluetooth, wireless network etc. has to work.
So, i did some testing, i bricked one magic due to it, and i have tried installing the lastest update from HTC, getting root back on my magic, thanks to Amon Ra, and many others.
I always use Amon Ra's recovery images, since they have all the necessary tools. Latest is the recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.5.2H.img, which can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=530492
The roms i have tested are:
Amon Ra's ION1.6 (Android 1.6) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538645)
Cyanogen ROM 4.2.12.2 (Android 1.6) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567610)
Ahmgsk's Expresso 2.0 (Android 2.0) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=608581)
Ahmgsk's Ported Hero 3.1 (Android 2.1) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=592114)
Ahmgsk's Super_D 1.5.1 (Android 1.6) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609714)
GyD's 2.1.1 (Android 1.5) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548837)
Myhero 2.05 (Android 1.5) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5325344)
These are all tested with SPL 1.33.2010 and Radio 3.22.20.17.
In my opinion, the best, most stable and usable by anyone is GyD 2.1.1, this you just install and setup to your liking, and it runs smooth and fast. Myhero is also like that, but it has some glitches and bugs, like a brightness issue, and the screen seems interlaced when running it.
Of the other roms, if you want to run Android above 1.5, i would suggest that you try out Ahmgsk's Super_D - It is the one that has the latest UI, but it doesnt come with HTC keyboard, and only has limited multi language and dictionaries. You need to install HTC_IME yourself, Cyanogen has put it out on XDA here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567294
I have excluded JacHeroSki 2.2 in this thread so far, because i have been unable to make it run on any of my phones - And i have searched for help regarding flashing radio and Danger SPL, but have been unable to find it for 32a..
I then went and tested CursorDroid's CursorSense which has some complicated installing issues..
First you have to change Radio and SPL, and then you can apply the Rom. This is the only rom available for this SPL and Radio, so you have to revert back, if you dont like this Rom - CursorDroid claims that this is the closest to the real Hero, i wont say for or against, i can just state, that it really works.. This is the best rom on the market at the moment!
CursorSense 1.0final (Android 1.5) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=592856)
CursorSense 1.0final has just been released, you can just apply without wipe.. Here is a list of apps i have removed from my version of CursorSense:

Last but most importantly, i would like to give big thanks to all the developers on xda, you make a tremendous effort, giving us all the best experiences with our phones. Without you guys, no one would have the opportunity to experience the full capacity of Android! Keep up the good work, and do you guys need any help, i would gladly help out in any way i can..
Cheers dude!
Thumbs up for CursorSense , indeed the BEST rom out there! ( Thanks Cursor! )

Eyegor
Nice article!
And I couldn't agree more.
I have also tried a few ROMs, but I have never been as satisfied as I am now.
My ranking would be:
1. CursorSense 1.0RC1
2. MagicGyd 2.1.1
3. CaSense 1.11
4. MyHero 2.0.5
CursorSense is the only ROM that is currently under development, and we can expect a new version (1.0RC2) in the next few days. Updating Radio, SPL and using Amon's Hero Recovery is a requirement, but when following instructions, you should not risk bricking your phone.
Highly recommended!
CursorSense is still 1.5 right? Same as all other Hero roms? Just want to know what is so great about it.

The quick answer is speed and stability. Sure some version have had issues, but with the latest release all have been removed, and since it's still being improved, the developer is addressing any newly reported issues in future releases.
The best way to learn about the ROM, and get the full story, I recommend reading through the developers thread (or at least the last 10-15 pages)
To everyone looking for a clean ROM I would recommend Amon_Ra's
Its almost as clean as a stock ROM
But it provides a 1.6 update to the 32a board (where HTC didnt) and the cleaness make it as good as a HTC update

CursorSense is Android 1.5, but its running on upgraded spl and radio - Spl and Radio that are from a genuine HTC Hero phone, so its not like other Hero rom's available on Magic spl. It's really fast, and everything works..

well the thread is a good, idea. the amount of changes required and also the higher risk of bricking it compared to other roms doesn't appeal.
I am leaning to wards gyd for my magic.
I have updated post 1, so there is some more news..
I also take recommendations to other roms than the ones i have covered, and i can test roms for you, if you want me to..
Wow, didnt' realize that all of this was going on!
Thanks guys, I appreciate the support!
Stay tuned for more updates!
For anyone scared to update radio/spl, there is no need to worry as long as you remember to follow directions and ask questions if you need help.
Cheers!

yeah, juz flashed your ROM today and must say it's freaking awesome. I was on AmonRa's 1.6.3 and it was not as fast and crash-free as your ROM.
Yeah, its a really cool rom, and now its final.
I am currently testing Cyanogen 4.2.12.2 on my other phone - Its running smooth and stable so far. All i miss is the danish HTC_IME, so i dont have to have an Locale app, to be able to revert back to danish, when i had to write in english. And then the Sense UI, that would be nice..
How about posting up some videoreviews of Cursordroid on Youtube?
Can't believe there's almost no custom ROM reviews
i use myhero 2.0.5, it's good for me

Great idea, I will most certainly think about it. Got a 8mp webcam, so..
IMO cursordroid's cursorsense is the most stable of the ROM's I have tried so far (i've tried cyanogen and Amon_RA's rom) but I didn't expect I was constantly gonna need the bluetooth FTP which made me change from cursorsense to back to cyanogen (it was very hard on me to let that ROM go)
Anyway, when cursordroid's rom gets upgraded to android 1.6/2.0 (i feel this is gonna be soon, very soon), I'll flash it again

Sense UI + Android 2.1 will be out eventually (The sooner the better) and when it does you know Cursor will be on it.
My opinion - which one is the best (most stable) one - CursorSense
Hi everyone
At the moment, my phone is powered on CursorSense (Updated to 1.2.6.1) and it has workiong so great so far.
I really tried, cnahged and tested many other roms before and this one looks like the most stable then any previous one.
It's the most stable rom for HTC magic (which including SenseUI) and the most featrues works.
Of course, everyone of u knows that there r some bluetooth issue and Android is based on v1.5, but upgraded rom and spl makes phone running really fast and stable
So, my recomandition to everyone (who hasn't tried yet) to run this rom
I belive that everyone would like it is based on Android 2.0 (or above ), bluetooth ftp works propetly...but there's no such a perfect rom, so, I hope this one will be upgraded to more stable version which will be deployed to my phone as soon as it comes out
Best regards!
CursorSense by a mile
The first ROM I installed on my Rodgers Magic was Amon_RA's 1.6.3. Worked great BUT my Magic is one of those that reboots when the camera is used on a Donut or Eclair ROM. After trying lots of ROMS, I discovered that the camera reboots went away using the new radio and a Eclair ROM. The Eclair roms are too slow and buggy for me so I now have CursorSense and will upgrade to 2.1 when it is released by Rodgers and rooted most likely by CursorDroid.
Alright, so I updated my phone with the official 2.1 android update from sprint, then rooted it. I hate 2.1 and my phone runs like complete crap. I even tried to re-flash it after doing a hard reset, that didn't help. I am very new to android phones, but learn fast. I downloaded the initial release ruu from sprint which has android 1.5 but can't simply run that to flash back to a 1.5 rom because it gives some type of error about not being able to update the boot loader or something. I gather that I need to get the original 1.5 rom in .zip form somewhere and then flash that rom using the menu at the phones boot up to get back to a 1.5 rom. Can someone tell me what I need to download, and the steps to do so? Also is there any 1.5 roms that are nearly identical to sprints stock rom but that have tethering enabled? Thanks guys!!
- Mike
I would like to know this also as 2.1 runs like garbage I think and 1.5 at least worked for me and wasnt so buggy. I am not happy wih 2.1 at all. Also I really want my tethering back.
Pick a 1.5 ROM like Pancake or Gumbo and install it. The list of 1.5 ROMS can be found in the XDA Hero CDMA Wiki
Which Rom is closest to stock? Know where I could find stock 1.5?
Im going to say Gumbo ROM 1.5c FULL but I could be wrong. I am going to wait and see what some more experienced member/s have to say. For now I deal with this rooted 2.1.
You can not go back to 1.5 after running the 2.1 RUU. The hboot in 2.1 has a higher version and you can not downgrade below the version currently on your phone. The only thing to do is install a 1.5 ROM..
Just look in the Wiki, there are several 1.5 ROMs.
Before I went to 2.1 ROM's I used Gumbo 1.5c Bare. FAST as the wind...but there is the FULL version also, that has all the sprint apps.
Both here.....Flash them and see which you like better.
http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-hero-roms-hacks/6699-cdma-hero-rom-gumbo-rom-1-5c.html#post41536
I am currently running Fresh 2.1.1 and it is amazing, everything works and its FAST! You might want to try this one also:

Good luck.
Hi!
I have the strangest question
My phone is reaaallly slow, so I figured I'd do a hard reset and reinstall everything.
My question is, what should I do
Basically I just want the latest version of windows mobile and HD2 updates. To get it really up to date
So can you give me any recommendations on what exactly I should update?
Thanks
The easiest way is probably to flash a custom rom..... one of the newer ones.
Should contain all the freshest updatey goodness and give the speed your looking for.......
Best thing to do is work out which apps you liked and what worked and do a hard reset back to factory spec and only install the apps you like...
After getting the phone most of us install every app that comes along, settling for a few that are essential... Hard resetting and fresh installs will help greatly...
Only go a custom rom if you really know what you are doing and only if you are dedicated to try several to find one that suits you...

I know I used to do so with my old telephone (TYTN II), but recently I spoke with a friend of mine (he has a HD2 too). He's really into computers etc, and he has the latest roms and everything. He told me that his phone is A LOT faster now.
The only thing is: I have no idea where to start. Just download the latest windows mobile? or should I download the latest HTC HD2 rom? Or both? In what order? Any other updates?

Before i went down the custom rom route i did modify a stock 1.66 rom so i can make a comparison here between as shipped stock, modded stock and custom 6.5.5. I can tell you that 6.5.5 is miles better, faster and if you get a custom rom with a newer version of sense that's even better.
Flashing custom roms has been covered so many times many people are bored of replying but i'll see what i can do in one post.
First you need a copy of HSPL3. Search for it, it will turn up. Don't ask how to install it. All you need to do is run the exe in the file you download.
Then you have a choice. You can either install and updated radio rom (will possibly improve signal and battery life but to find the best one for you and your area may take a couple of flashes and some testing) or just skip straight to the main event. I recommend that all new rom flashers use Energy 23569 standard sense 2.5 because it's fast, pretty lightweight and very close to a HTC stock rom in looks which makes it pretty easy to use. To install follow the instructions in the first couple of posts of the energy rom thread.
I also recommend that you have a look at leocpuspeed V4 and chainfire's 3D driver patch v2 (search for those). Once configured they will greatly improve the performance of the device running any rom you install and it's well worth it.
if you dont wanna go custom rom, i guess you could check see if you have all the latest updates from the HTC site, take it from there, only install apps to the device that need to be on the device such as tweaking apps and install everything else on the sd card, and get your self clean ram or bsb ram sweeper, will reclaim the ram for you from the programs you thought you may have closed but didnt really close.
Hi guys
Received a sms message from T-mobile announcing the official release of ROM update. Check out the Tmobile HD2 site.
Edit:
Installed the update; found nothing new or exciting and now reverting back to Kumar's TMHD2 Touch Premium 2.9 WWE
For those who have flashed 2.08.HSPL to use unofficial ROMs, if you install the official release by USB your 2.08 HSPL will still be intact after the upgrade and you can go back to other ROMs with out any problem. That's what I did by reverting back to Kumar's ROM.

I am curious too about what it is for, it would be cool if it was Windows 7.
I am running Energy Rom, and Radio 2.15.50.14, so I am assuming updating would be a bad idea.
I just got the sms message too - I'm downloading it right now from the t-mobile website.
Figures - I just put a different ROM on my phone - yesterday! hahaha

Still no multitouch keyboard. Is this not possible with WM6.5? I just can't understand why, almost a year after initial release, HTC has not released a multitouch keyboard for WM6.5 on the HD2. Iphone and Android have had it forever, and it makes SUCH A BIG difference!

As so many forum members have said, perhaps for a million times, ROM preference is really an art of matching ones individual needs; I have been testing several ROMs, Energy, Kumar's, Omega etc. and currently find Kumar's ROM meeting my needs. To me Kumar's ROMs seem stable and do not have many programs that the chefs generally tend to add to their custom ROMs. I like my system to be as minimum and as stable as possible so that I can add and customize it as I want.
So the best thing is to try couple of Custom ROMs and see if you feel comfortable with the version of ROM you have installed.
Also, the latest version of ROM (both Official, Custom) are generally less buggy.
For those of us who do not want to go for the custom ROMs, I guess today's official release from T-mobile should be the one we should be upgrading to. T-mobile must have ironed out previous noted bugs in this new upgarde. For the brief moments that I played with the official new release; everything was smooth and working. But as I said earlier, I have now reverted back to Kumar's ROM.
It appears that today's 'Official" release is the same as the leaked release from a couple of weeks ago.
The size of the RUU_signed.nbh is exactly the same size. The date is different but I doubt that means anything significant.
I never got any text from tmo. :-(
after attempting the update, I get 7 vibrations in a row at the tmo boot screen and then it freezes. Anyone else have this issue?
Just installed, took like 3 mins and it runs ok, they added new icons: amazon Mp3, Myaccount, Shazam and T-Mobile Help... my account and t-help icons are useless they dont do anything, still testing, i saw some improvements like faster reading from memory, now when i insert the sd card with a bunch of images, videos and music it takes less time reading them, the only issue that i got was that im unable to run android cuz it gets a weird screen and it does nothing, but if i get some problem i'll post it ok? thx!
what does the update even do?

- Cannot unlock the phone
- Cannot unlock the phone with the correct password
- No space bar on company directory keyboard

I just updated to 2.13 the other day, and I put a custom ROM on my phone that I really really like alot since my phone seems to respond better to this one with no small lag. I have a question though, if I update to 3.14 will I loose the ability to put the custom ROM back on the phone or is it safe to update and put the custom ROM back in?
hi,
I have stock ROM 2.13.531.1
i recently installed HSPL3 and radio 2.15.50.14
now my quuestion is will i be able to install the new ROM without any problem? i dont want to brick my phone. Also will i be able to install the same radio 2.15.50.14 after installing the new stock ROM.
Hopefully htc have fixed the sms bug coz everytime i get a new sms my whole phone freezes for like 5 sec. and its really killing me.
thanks guys
