I'm awaiting arrival of an unbranded HTC Legend tomorrow or Wednesday. Now I have set up the Hero just as I want it with gmail, imap.....the apps I want etc.
What's the best way of migrating from Hero to Legend?
It's not rooted and it's got stock ROM. Rooting it and doing backup of everything isn't an option, since I can't root the Legend yet anyway.

I used to work with WM 5 & 6 phones, had plenty of them and enjoyed them all until I discovered the HTC Magic. What a giant leap forward!! Especially when using Google Apps as we do. I am however a bit reluctant to root the magic as it doesn’t seem like a walk in the park. I really miss being able to backup SMS messages and all the other apps that only run on rooted devices.
So my question is if the HERO is a rooted device or not.
Does anybody have an answer to this question? I’m so tempted to preorder one
Moved this question to HERO Q&A
Can you even buy 'rooted' phones? I believed the DevPhone One was the only one and it isn't really generally available.
rooting your phone is something you do, buy using a bug or exploit in the ROM I believe. So if this will be possible on the Hero, only time will tell.
(Android noob myself, more a Linux and WinMo god , so correct me if I'm wrong).
what is donut for htc hero and how can i get it>?
also what are advantages and disadvantages of rooting htc hero
i am new to this
thank please reply
Donut is the codename for Andriod version 1.6. The Hero comes with verion 1.5. Currently, you cannot get Donut for the Hero, so don't worry about it!
Rooting provides you with superuser priviledges to the OS. If you don't know what this means and don't need to use any apps that require superuser rights, I'd recommend not bothering with it. no need to go rooting the phone if you don't know how to take advantage of it.
HTC will update there twitter soon with a little more information soon. They have actually shed light and said it's coming our way but they can't say anything. Hopefully there might be a few more things packed in the new update over than Donut. I would like to see a slight upgrade to the Sense UI.
Hello all
I'm looking to get a Legend on Vodafone but can see that you get Vodafone 360 pre-installed. I was wondering if this interfere's with the phone and / or apps or whether you can basically ignore or uninstall it to get a "pure" android experience.
Cheers
K
Well, I myself just got the Legend on Vodafone and can safely say... no, the Vodafone interference is minimal, like... 2 widgets installed on the default scene. But HTC have provided their own scene which is identical, but removes those 2 widgets.
I basically just ignore the 360 stuff.
Probably a stupid question, but isnt it possible to just flash a official htc rom to the legend to remove all the vodafone stuff? Or doesnt it work this way with android? (still on WM)
I will also be getting a Legend from Vodafone and I defenitly do not want all the extra crap providers put in.
Btw, can you remove those 2 widgets from vodafone?
Cheers dlau77, I went ahead and bought one and, as you say, you select the HTC Scene and you've got a pretty Vanilla Android phone. Perfect.
Wildfire got approximately all froyo features in its eclair version and has none bugs but I own HTC legend with annoying message bug with none features of froyo.
even HTC wildfire have a froyo rom with HTC sense with full features.
and we legend users are JUST WAITING and WAITING.
WHAT WE DO switch to another phone or wait like HTC HERO. 2.1 update?
Or just Root your Legend and be done with ;-).
I've been using the Azure rom for a few weeks now and it's great!
does azure has the same htc sense ?
Well, actually doesn't have sense, but there are alternatives to that. In my case I have been running azure since 0.5 and now I am running version 1.0 without problems (although bugs are reported to exist). I have to say that the battery now last longer, and that is important for me because of the heavy use I give to the phone.
If you can, give it a chance .
Cheers
Yeah, I gave up on waiting and just rooted and added Azure.. I tried the others with Sense but they either didn't get it right or I wasn't getting it right. I'd constantly get "insufficient space" issues and things like that.
With Azure, I have no problems at all, works great.
all my attempts at rooting have failed (at the step2.bat, adb cant find the device). so i'm stuck waiting for the official update. i have confidence that they're working on it and that it will be released, but that its a lower priority than other phones.
Once you root you never look back...
i think i will wait without rooting because for me sense is a must ... but what i hope that the rumors are true and they will update the phone ...

Lol. Good one.
Azure rom doesnt give htc sense , adobe flash 10.1, social netwrking integration and many more.
And it has very poor battery life.
Hope for legend users!

i know thats foe microsoft windows phone 7 but who knows it bring party for htc legend users also.
I have to say that, in my case, the battery lasts longer with azure. Right now is 37% and the wall clock says 22:12. With 2.1 I was lucky if I got more than a 10% by this time. I know that it is not very scientific and that there are many variables that might have changed but my experience is azure = longer battery life.
Cheers.
Sent from my Legend using XDA App
SO T-Mobile G2 is getting Gingerbread, anyone know if Bell in Canada is releasing Gingerbread for the HTC Desire Z ? basically the same phone,
Thanks
Not exactly. T-Mobile G2 is an AOSP ROM, doesn't use the SenseUI. The Bell Desire Z has the SenseUI and it's up to HTC to push an updated ROM, then it's up to Bell to test and push the update.
My brother's Desire HD got the new Gingerbread update, but he's on the Telus Network with me. So it shouldn't be that far off for the DZ for Bell!
Koodos on your patience.
htc desire z BELL gingerbread update aug 9.2011
Hello all.
I am a noob at android and htc.
Few points:
-i am with bell since dec 2010
-at the beginning of the year downloaded and installed the
FOTA update in haste...didnt do the research and ended up lagging the
Sense interface like crazy....really disappointed....my snazzy phone instantly
Became a slow process(read POS) ...go figure.....?
-did the forums research here, but too lazy to root and downgrade
and all that jazz....im a lazy bugger...haha
(Part lazyness.part didnt wanna mess with factory settings)
-used the phone for months with annoying lag.....
-yesterday afternoon the gingerbread 2.3.3 updated.....from bell
NOW-the phone is efficient...sense interface awesome....totally
Happy with performance thusfar...and a plus battery life seems
Way improved....almost like a system refresh.
Just wanted to put in my two (htc) senses...haha.
Party on,
Thanks bell and htc and android community!!!

Ps.gives me faith once again in android and non apple smartphones.
