STK service error? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 General

the STK service is most of the time a icon that looks like a sim card and gives u info like credit balance on [payg] and the phone number to that certain sim card and other options etc.
the problem i am faceing is that whatever ROM i have tryed when i select a item that has to get in touch with vodafone [as that is who i am with] i get a internal error.
example- i choose to check my balance left on [payag] and i get = internal error, code 2E04
but doing the same thing on a run of the mill mobile, example- a sony ericcsonn k750 all is ok!
the windows mobile device is a o2 xda II himalaya running ROM'S from this very excellent forum.
any ideas or workarounds greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!

Questions about o2 active and using XDA Exec - hel please!

OK, im a O2 XDA newbie and just got an o2 exec.
I intend to use it with tom tom 5 eventually but i mainly want to use it to connect to 3g internet and making phone calls of course!
I have a couple of questions.
1) By removing the o2 active/o2 software what is the advantage? I understand it makes it run a little quicker but by how much? Will it make connecting to o2 3G / GPRS more complex as I like the simplicity at the moment.
2) Can i rempove the o2 stuff wiothout flashing as I already have a lot of emails/data that i dont want to lose on my device
3) If I do have to flash, what will I miss from the o2 software?
4) How can I change ringtones to my own MP3s etc and is it possible to assign different ring tones to different callers or groups of callers.
5) Is there any better wifi software. At the moment I find it a little tricky to swap from one wifi network to the other without turning wifi on and off and going through a lot of menus.
6) Do I need to uninstall 02 stuff to get Tom Tom 5 to work.
Any help much appreciated.
Cheers,
Roger
Anyone able to help on any of my questions? Please!
Roger
Hi,
I saw your post and decided to sign upto this forum.
i also have an XDA Exec and getting rid of the o2 menu bar doesnt realy do much at all, for starters the o2 menu bar is annoying and messy.
I have managed to unlock my fone but have only tested it with an Vodafone sim so far, leave your email and i can email you the file and instructions.
to add your own mp3 ringtones just put your mp3's on your memory card but not in a folder and to add an mp3 message tone copy the mp3 to the windows folder.
anyother questions feel free to ask.
Removing the O2 active software greatly improved the speed of my Exec. I didnt use it so I dont miss it at all, the unit is still very easy to use without it.
To remove the O2 software, you dont need to flash, jut goto start-> programs-> Install Type, and select basic, voila!
As for TomTom, I believe you need the 5.1 update - I havent tried installing TomTom yet, but it is in my todo list ;-)
Allan
If you select o2 active basic set up, it is not uninstalling it. Search the forums for the corp code, that kills it off I believe, that is what i am using and i prviously had basic on, and its now even faster!
Also - you will need to remove a file from the windows startup folder to do with o2 software, forgotten what is is killed, just hunt about..
If you uninstall the O2 software and you only use O2 e-mail, will this mean you can no longer access it using the xda? This may sound like an incredibly stupid question to those of you who are experts, but please bear with me, this phone is a very new thing for me, and I'm not keen on tinkering with the setup if I don't know what the possible outcome may be. I haven't been able to get my xda to sync to Outlook on my PC either, but I don't use Outlook for my e-mail, so at the moment that's not a major disaster.

I have been going over this forum (have a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=30330&highlight=
) and others for quite sometime reg any word on unlocking the xda Exec, with no real result. It is essential for me as I spend much of my time overseas.
So, I would be gratefull if u could send me the data, info and instructions on unlocking the handset.
Oh and i have some foreign SIMs here in London - so I can verify with them, whether the unlocking process can work.
Thanks
My XDA from O2 came unlocked (already tried with a "3" sim) I noticed a huge speed increase by getting rid of the O2 menu bar, I did it by removing (or you could rename) \windows\startup\active.lnk and rebooting, this plus overclocking to 624 MHZ makes it run like a dream. It is so fast E.G it can fully switch from Portrait to landscape in less than 2secs. and it works every time
hard reset it and choose the corporate mode, miles quicker and so much cleaner than the o2 garbage............The codenwhen prompted for corporate mode is 0506
if it aint active syncing, have you got the latest 4.1 update? if so, check your firewall, or come off line and disable your firewall see if that helps, if not, go to microsoft and they have a page to guide you through forewall settings.
hope that helps.
Hi, I'm a Newbie but learning fast,
I have just got the Xda exec, and was really disappointed with the Personal Modes performance so I did the hard reset and used the 0506 code to install corp mode without the o2 gear and now it runs as fast as any Pda i've seen if not faster, the screen refresh rates were much better. but hey! whats a few nano secs between models eh! I think just using the Install Type option doesn't do it properly, so I'd go for a hard reset.
Anyway after hard resetting and installing the corp install, I couldn't really find much that the O2 software actually did! I didn't miss anything. I think the O2 software is one of those type of programs that free memory but actually take up as much as it reclaims, making it useless.
You can run TomTom5 with the O2 software running but to connect to most Bluetooth GPS devices You'll find it advantagous to use the 5.1 update cab files instead of using the TomTom5 cab files. The 5.1 cab update files are actually full install files for the application only, you still need the maps, voices and the essential speed camera poi. I now have the latest TomTom and up and running. excellent program and joanna lumley's voice; well, sat nav heaven.
As for WIFI I could only find this: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=4437 I also found an interesting little program called Hitchiker.
MP3: I've found it better to convert any audio file to WMA, not mp3. wma is better compression and its native to windows. I convert all my music to wma on the computer; I think its clearer and it takes up less space. If you look in the Windows\Rings folder on your xda exec you'll find it has a wma file not an mp3. for ringtones I use the sample files used for ejay especially the sphere sounds.

SIM and SAT with RIL

Hello,
I am trying to access to a SIM application, I have some questions and I have been reading more or less the entire Development and Hacking section before posting. I hope you can help me:
1) We are able to create new applications for the SIM (we have some Test SIMs from a manufaturer). Is posible to select among diferent applications in the SIM by their AID?. How can I do that using RIL?
2) In the post http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41182&highlight=season, it was said that a season interface can be used to sniff the traffic betwen the sim and the mobile. I have also a season interface prepared and attached to the mobile phone. But the logs I obtain don't make sense. Which program can be used to obtain logs?. If developed individually: In that case which connection speed, parity bits, stop bits, bps speed... are necessary to access that data?. I am using 1 start bit, 8 data bits, one parity bit (even) and two stop bits. My mobile phone is a Qtek 9000.
3) Does anybody have some sample traces among the card and the host?
4) Somebody have some working code to interact with the application?.
5) Mi mobile phone has a driver called SIM, and another SCARD. Do you know if it is possible to access directly to the card using that driver?.
Please any help will be appreciated.
Thanks for this forum and for your comments!!

Daniel
Please, can anybody help me?.
Thanks in advance
Please, any help?

Strange Issue - Device does not show "free space left" when installing apps. - help?

Strange Issue - Device does not show "free space left" when installing apps. - help?
Bit of a strange one this, but can anyone shed any light.
With my other WM5 devices, a Vario, and a MDA Pro (Wizard and Universal), whenever I install applications to the device via the .cab file, I am asked where I want to install to, Device or Storage Card, and it shows the amount of memory required for this install, and the free storage remaining for that location, which obviously changes as you press the relevant radio button for Device or Storage Card.
However, as best I recall since day one of owning it, on my T Mobile Vario 2, whenever I install applications, it never shows me the free memory remaining bit, so I simply have to make a guess as to where to store it.
Is this a known bug for the Hermes with the standard T-Mobile ROM... or can other normal T- Mobile ROM users state that this behaviour does NOT occur for them, adn that it DOES show all the necessary information whilst installing...?
Thanks in advance.
Ok, let me put it another way...
Can ANYONE tell me if on their Hermes based device, they DO get an indication how much free space is remaining, when they install an application...?
If so, what ROM/Operator...
Almost this entire forum has a Hermes, if you are reading this, likely...
If so, can you do me a quick favour and try this by going through the motions of installing an application, and see.
You don't even need to install the application (any application cab file will do to test this). Simply CANCEL the install, once you ascertain whether it does or doesn't show you how much free space you have, whilst it tells you how much room it will need.
Come on, help me out here - you all have Hermes' - is this just me with this issue...?
Well, just for you I re-syncd my pda and no, it doesn't tell me on my Vario II how much space I have left, only how much space the app will take up.
I don't think it ever has told me.
Hope that helps
On mine it shows spaced required and space available.
I think my sig shows what else I have.
Thanks both...
It sounds to me like it's a ROM issue then... Marissa, is yours T-Mobile or what?
Curious that the AKU 3.3 and thus possibly cooked rom (or the beta one that got released semi-officially), DOES work properly in showing the space required AND space remaining...
That's what makes me think it's a ROM issue...
So can anyone else contribute...?

Er Marisa, having re-read your message, I'm now a bit confused...
Not sure what you mean by "having re-synced my pda"...
Can I clarify, this has nothing to doing with a sync...
I merely mean that if you go to install software on your PDA, usually by way of clicking on a cab file using File Explorer on the device, the device will then sometimes prompt you with a warning, do you wish to install untrusted source etc etc.
If you say yes, the next thing that will happen, is that you will be asked by the pda, where you want to install, if you have a storage card inserted, and have a radio button choice of Device, or Storage Card.
And as you tick one or the other, the text below this will tell you how much space is REQUIRED, and the killer>>> on all previous devices, also how much is REMAINING on whichever storage type you tick - device or card.
But on my Vario 2, it DOESN'T show any info at all about how much is left remaining...
On a vario 1, and a universal, and all my previous windows smartphones, it DID tell you this.
So were you meaning something else, as this is what I was referring to. Or did you just mean you installed an application initially via a PC .exe file, with your device connected, so it then triggered a normal install as above, on the pda...
Just not clear where the bit about PC sync came in.
This has got me a little frustrated, as all I am doing now is banging everything on card, as I now have no indication of how much free memory is on my device, while I install.
(I can go in to check via System Tools from time to time, but this is not the solution...)
Cheers all.
S.
Hi I always install software if possible through an exe file through activesync, most people do.
It does just the same thing, and you get the same messages when you install, and on my install message, it asks on the pda where I want to install the app, main memory or storage card, and how large the app is. But nothing about how much space is left.
It's a T-mobile with the original rom, radio etc etc.
Hope this helps.
I Found That It Doesn't Show How Much Room You've Got Out Of The Box, But When I Unlock My ExtRom Or I Must Enable Some Other Tweak Using HTweakC, Then The Amount Of Free Space Gets Shown.
Cheers
When I install cabs directly from the phone (not activesync), it always shows the required space / remaining space for each medium. I haven't done any ExtROM or CID unlocking, just SIM. Sounds like a rom thing...see sig for details.

Hi Marisa - yes that's great thanks, as what you describe is just another way to trigger the installation - using activesync etc - it just copies the cab across and triggers the install itself, as I do manually.
So you have confirmed that T-Mobile ROM has this problem. Cheers.

Cheers mate - so it sounds like the base Orange ROM also has this issue too.
Unless you do some magic -jiggery pokery...
Don't suppose you can have a better think what it was you did to fix it...?
But cheers - another confirmed issue.

Again, another Cingular user with an updated ROM, that is NOT having this issue.
So it's more and more sounding like an early ROM issue...
Cheers mate.

new official ROM v.1.72.207.0 [O2 Germany]

Hi,
today i've found a new official ROM v.1.72.207.0 provided by O2 Germany, it's brandnew!!
Peace, Andi
Link: http://www.o2online.de/nw/support/downloads/software/xda/htchd2/htc-hd-2.html
Changelog:
Digital image enhancement: removing the "Red Shadow" for Photos
Improving the SMS functions
Correct display of SIM contacts, in addition to the telephone calls, and Exchange Server contacts
Determine the correct amount of free space on a memory card and an improvement of support for certain memory sizes
Extended functionality of the Calendar application
Eh,with the amount of bugs and freezes this phone has, this rom update seems quite lacking.
so is this coming out in an english rom? and would it even be worth upgrading as it doesnt seem to do a lot...??
Would expect anything more from O2? For all the time i have had my o2 Orbit the ROM updates for that device were pathetic at best.
I'm afraid I found the first bug in this new ROM
After flashing the device my Java app (DB RailNavigator) is unable to go online. Of course I tried several things like restoring the orginal files from backup or re-installing the app from the web.
Ant the network and security setting of the java vm are also ok.
When I tap some online-function within the app it even does not come the point where the java runtime asks for permission to enable online access.
it simply locks up.
Has anyone else here tried to use online-aware java app with this new ROM from O2?
For me this rom really fixed problems.
For example the appointment bug is solved and the pink flicker or dot in the camera seems to be solved too. the cam now really takes decent pics.
I will stay with this rom as it just fulfils my needs - i only need that damn ereader tab get to work...

I hope it is!
Today I installed JavaFX Mobile 1.2 from the SUN website. Now DB RailNavigator works again online and NEW! can access GPS via location API.
So to me it strongly seems that with the new O2 ROM something changed to the standard Java VM.
BTW: HTC support told me to ask for a new version of DB RailNavigator, but
how could DB know what is the problem???

[Q] SW SIM card app - idea

I would like to make APP which simulates SIM card in software on android. I would load 2 or 3 SIM cards into phone and then I would chose which one I need in android.
Do you think that it`s possible to be done? I don`t know how phone communicates with SIM card, it`s by SW or HW?
Thanks for any advice.
to make it more clear what I want, I want it to work like deamon tools in Windows for cd-rom, but i want to emulate sim cards
You can get most of the source code from market enabler or market access. It does that in order to allow users to buy apps
XDA App
Actually I doubt that it's possible to emulate SIM card, take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subscriber_Identity_Module at least.
The SIM card is designed not to allow the Ki (Authentication key) to be obtained using the smart-card interface. Instead, the SIM card provides a function, Run GSM Algorithm, that allows the phone to pass data to the SIM card to be signed with the Ki.
Thanks for reply. Market enabler doesn`t do what i really need. As I looked in the source code of it I found that it only rewrites system variables in which is stored Operator ID and string ID of Operator.
I know SIM cards have protection, but I know that there are ways to copy it, don`t know how yet but it`s not my problem right now. My problem is if it`s possible to emulate it in android or not if I will have it copyied.
Thanks.
