Gps navigation for Cyprus! - Desire Themes and Apps

hey guys I tried copilot 8 and I am going to install sygic this afternoon. but I doubt it will have Cyprus maps, does any of you guys know a program with Cyprus support ?

There is a company that makes Greece and Cyprus specific maps for sygic called creative image.
Don't ask me if they are good though, you' ll have to try them out for yourself.
google creative image greece and you ll find them.

I heard from a friend that there's this app called IGO that works in Cyprus. He used to use it on Windows Mobile but after a quick google search it looks like its available for Android too!
Please try it out and tell me how it is

yes I know it too but I haven't found it anywhere yet

ok problem solved I found that sygic has Cyprus mqps and actually the whole program is awesome. thanks for any help

I also use sygic for cyprus but its been 4-5 days that is not working... what about yours?

I installed sygic on android but it doesn't have any Cyprus maps.. Did you get the maps from somewhere else?
Thanks

iGo has maps for Cyprus, and it works well too.

i used to use iGO on my HD2, but now and after a desire, and a desire hd, i have a sensation. locations is the best GPS for android imo atm, but it has no cyprus maps, so i ve searched for another one. a friend who owns a desire uses sygic mobile maps 10. says he's satisfied but i ve witnessed it having signal issues and the maps aren't 100% up to date. so my question is, are you referring to iGO for android or windows ? if you 're referring to an android version, which one's that, and have you got the compatible for it cyprus map. i 'd be grateful if you could share it.

I used iGO in Poland and I must say that at least for me i t read lest accurate app. The best maps in my opinion has google maps, copilot and sygic aura/mobilemaps.
For now I use google maps

Sorry it took so long to get back to you.
Yes i was talking about the Android version. I have iGo 8 i think it is,with maps from 2010 so its fairly recent.
Check you pms later dude.

I`m using iGO 8.4.2.139242 with cyprus map, on HTC desire, works great.
Higly recommended.

Yes it works everywhere when you have internet access everywhere. But this is Cyprus. 3G network is too expensive and you cannot find free wireless just anywhere. I have been searching for Cyprus GPS for my Motorola Atrix 4G and i couldn't find anything. Even for paid software! Any ideas guys??

Sygic aura is the best for Greece...test it a little bit in holiday!!!

Sygic is very good for greece indeed!

Does Greece map contain cyprus?

Yep. After a bit of meddling with languages maps and other files, I got it to work. For some reason though it's very slow at finding my location :/

Good Navigation App for 2.2?

Is there a good, working, navigation app out there for 2.2 yet?
JD
I would like to know this as well... Copilot are apparently working on an update, Sygic Mobile Maps 10 hasn't got back to me yet (currently runs but with soooooooo much lag)... and Navigon is reported to kind of work, but looses gps alot?
So far my best option is Google Navigator... it does a bloody good job... only problem is the phone gets very hot - 45c yesterday on a 40 minute drive but I think this is what happens with most apps!?

Just downloaded... looks good so far... I will give this a spin, thanks
NDrive any good?
It's sad that Sygic has lag in 2.2, I wonder if it will be the same when the official release comes out...
I downloaded the Ndrive 7 day trial and its not bad, I like the horizon panning, although the UI is a little more cluttered than Sygic. I'm tempted to buy it at 43 Euro's ($63.28 AU) but the other half of my mind says wait until the official Froyo is release and maybe Sygic will be back to normal. There are rumours that google has OTA'd an update for Froyo to it's employee's :

Nothing!!! thats been 6 days now and no reply
Ndrive seems to work well... I just don't like the announcements... they seem to tell you your next turn around 1/2 mile away from the junction, which is stupid! Personally I'm not buying it and will keep holding out for copilot which I found to be perfect
Is there a comparison chart ? I'M NOT sure wich navigationsoftware is the best and I want the best
Sent from my HTC Desire
I ended up buying Ndrive cause of urgency as it seemed the only option atm. I found this http://gpsreviewer.wordpress.com/2009/07/16/second-and-lastsemifinal-ndrive-vs-sygic-drive/ but a copilot comparison is missing. One the same blog there are a few other comparisons, I'm not sure how relevant they are to android specifically froyo. I also found http://iphonetunes.net/index.php/full_article/comments/routes_compared_-_copilot_vs_navigon_vs_igo_vs_sygic_vs_tomtom/ which compares routing for a few apps, but is for the iphone. Functionality differs slightly between devices, and I would call either comparisons scientific studies, rather reasonable guides.

Yes it works and its really good... especially as its free!
not in many eu countries.
brut maps navigation works in Australia though last I checked, there was a slight lag. As well as that, I don't like the dark background of the navigation app.
Any news about IGO Android for hi res devices (like the Desire)?

Noob Question. Best "Offline" Navigator?

I'm looking for an offline navigator for the US (and Central America, if one exists). I don't have data access most of the time, so I need to store maps on my phone. All opinions will be appreciated.
Thanks.
-Bob-
Copilot's pretty good. They do North America, but I don't think they do Central America.
I used that for nearly a year on Winmo, since it came as a trial on the HD2, but have switched to Navigator since using Android (obviously no good to you as it uses data).

Yes, I too used Copilot on my WinMo phone. Liked it, but was hoping to find something a bit more US-centric (newer maps).
I had read that Google was going to release an offline version of their software. It seems, IMHO, that Navigator is superior to Copilot. Have you seen anything about a new version?
Thanks for your response.

The next version of Google maps will still need a data connection to download the map data initially, but will not require one after that. I have to say, Google have been working pretty hard recently to give us some good updates, but the maps app is the one I'm looking forward to the most!

Galaxy s GT-i9000 [europe] with Ndrive 11

Dear members:
I have Ndrive 11[gps software] in my galaxy s ,if you have any questions about it please feel free to ask away.
pros:
new interface, simplified
super fast gps lock ,less than 5 seconds!
Weather forecast
new share feature for facebook ,favorites,my location, etc
support for foursqare.
google places search within app.
cons:
The above features in blue text crash the app when trying to log in,not a deal breaker but never the less i would like it to work.
But compared to the versions that i have in windows mobile devices it is miles better.
greetings! i have Ndrive 10, i can't find Ndrive 11 on android market...how does it work? can i upgrade using the same maps or i have to pay again? thanks!

it is available to Italy, just use the Ndrive word in the market not ndrive 11,
a list of contries\regions will come up.
about the facebook problem etc....
Ndrive support just told me that a fix will be out inthe coming days.
lucky for me a use ndrive 10 in other device, but it should be an upgrade option, i must stress that when i bougth the app it was not listed on ndrive website yet.
how do u like ndrive? im thinking of trying it
i see, this time main program is given together with maps...again they should give an upgrade option with a discount to whom already bought Ndrive 10 (in my case i bought all europe maps). i will not give my money for ndrive 11 to pay again for ndrive 12 and so on wtf. thanks for your answers OP.

To be honest the reason i got it is that Ndrive is the only gps software for android that offer the most features at the moment plus it is the only one that has maps for the island i come from, Madeira.
personaly a love Igo8 but so far is only available for windows mobile.
I also trying Aura sygic, now this software is allot more polished than ndrive but it does not have the google feature that i love in ndrive.
Sorry ... but IGo MyWay is available for Android. Try a search for "iGOMyWay v8.4.2.139242 for Android"
I've using NDrive (10) on my SE Xperia X10i since last summer.
I find the gui a bit clumsy, but still I think it's ok.
I agree with regards to their upgrade policy!
I received the following answer today:
Dear Costumer,
Thank you for contacting NDrive Support.
While acquiring a NDrive product, the customer acknowledges that is acquiring a life-time licence for the product as it is presented in the date of purchase. The licence is only valid to a unique device (non-transmissible) and any map update or software upgrade may have costs associated to it.
We will soon have available a free V11 upgrade (software only), which will be available through Android Market. When it is available, you will be notified on your device.
Cumprimentos / Best Regards

That is a ridiculous policy and I'm not sure it is legal. When you buy software independent of hardware you should then have the right run it on whatever device you want. You should be allowed to reactivate the software when you get a new phone. I would never buy Ndrive if that is the way they operate.
I've tried Aura, Mobile Maps and Ndrive but the one i prefer is Copilot live, it just seems more stable than the rest.
Good, I'd like to know how to use the Ndrive folder on the SD, since many use maps, maps have 6GB of internal memory to occupy! Does elguem can help me!?

The trick is getting garmin maps work on android devices... I'll post full details tomorrow (no guarrantee though )
HTC location doesn't have highly detailed maps of all the countries...
Garmin has those, but it's not fully available on android

But i'm using another app to read the Garmin maps... As i said, i'll post all the details later...
Keep posting guys! I wanna see more people interested in this

Having offline interests me a lot! I use Google Navigation and Google Maps right now but takes awhile to boot and locate. Not having to use data, I'm hoping, will lead to faster performance. Plus, I'm sure this could be used in other devices as well? I'm looking at my WiFi-only tablet as a 10" GPS if this works out =)

you obviously don't have knowledge in those apps.
Navitel is the app that will be used for navigation. but navitel DOES NOT support .img maps. it does support .nm2 maps, and the key is to know how to convert those maps, and get rid of the errors...

For which country?
For example, in Russia or Ukraine there is Yandex.maps application with possibility to store maps locally on SD. But in Europe it is not so useful, very poor details.
Navfree or was it freenav. It uses openstreetmap and its free. Works okay, bot perfect but hey, its free
Motonav + most recent iGo maps.
I use it only for Western, central and eastern Europe.
waze
I live in Israel (where waze was first conceived & started few years ago
over the course of time it became the most popular nav app around here (for good reasons)
Only problem is - you need an install base in your area for some of its features to become effective - the more drivers using waze - the more traffic (and other) information the system has to provide you with.
In Israel its not a problem, its a small country as it is and as mentioned - everyone use waze already (there is literally no smartphone around here without it)
try it out in your area and see how it goes.

You could enable map caching on google maps then wait for it to load at home then leave Offline maps I used to use Copilot. Definitely one of the best. Otherwise Google Nav is the best navigation there is. Not many good free ones otherwise.
Hello guys,

I trust more than any other the Navigon. it takes better routes than sygic or copilot.
Why dont you try iGO 8.4. I'm using it,its very very good, with mostly all maps (file with maps is 2.2 GB),if you want download link, send me pvt .
Igo 8.4 is very outdated although it is very good for moving from one point to another and I think it's the best for non Android system because they stopped supporting it.
