Does X10 have panel manager? All I've heard from X10 are timescape and mediascape.. Xperia isn't Xperia without panel manager (in my opinion)
I love the panel manager in both X1 and X2 (of course X5 is not considered) but X10?
No Panel manager, at least at the moment anyway.
That means SE is officially abandoning Panel Manager in X10? Although it's great or fine if there will be xdadevs that can add PM in x10.. But still, never thought SE would just give up it's Xperia-ness..
I think SE have made a concsious effort to revamp the xperia.
They have dropped the panels in favour of the new UX, which is basically just two apps (the scapes).
The new Mini and pro are also in the xperia range and use the scapes without the use of the panels.
I also think it's down to the OS.
The panels originated on WinMob which only had one homescreen. The panels were useful in this scenario as shortcuts and for easy access to running apps.
With the intro of android you have multiple homescreens to start with and can access an MRU list by long pressing the homebutton I don't think the panels would be as effective, It would be just more eye candy.
You can always live in the hope that they will restore them.
Oh thanks for telling that mate.. Really hope they'll restore it back..
Why would you even want the panels back? They were the worst part of my X1 by FAR!

dunno.. But I just love the panels.. It gets better in X2.. It'll definitely gets better in X10 if they have it.
(Of course like what Baggyb said.. It's an eye candy for me.. Not that they're useful or something.. but it kinda display an elegant look for the phone.)
Panels work well with WinMo where you need complete UI replacements, and they work well on the smaller X1 and X2 screens where things like a car friendly interface are needed (On the Road Panel). But like was said above, I wouldn't want the panel face on the X10, Android is good enough, and its multiple home-screens accomplish what Panels do for the most part anyway.
I think it is very definite that Panels are not coming to the X10, or any Android phone for that matter. In fact, I think Panels as a whole are dead with WM6 as Windows Phone 7 doesn't allow for UI changes.

i wonder if that would work, i mean both devices have graphic cards, same screen resolution and are made by the same folks. What do you think, do you think it can be done. Post your thoughts
I think the possiblities are pretty high.
I know if I were to get the phone that would be one of the things I would be interested in doing just because of the fact that the panels interface would have to grow up me so I would go with what I knew. Or if I wasn't to fond of the panels interface I would be trying to figure out how to use the touch HD interface.
The only thing that sucks bout the Touch HD ROM is that there won't be a US verison of the X1 and for a lot of US users it would probably be a lot of work put in to get the rom to work correctly on the X1

There wont be a US-spec Touch HD....
Either way the ability to change this to an X1 would be exactly the same as people have done porting TF3D and Manila2d. The Touch HD still uses TF3D likely with just higher resolution icons and such. Shouldn't be any different otherwise. Also, TF3d if I am correct is just a UI plugin for the Today screen on Windows Mobile. Which is basically the same thing as one of the X1 panels. I wouldn't be surprised if someone created a panel for the X1 that was very similar to TF3d, the possibility is there, just need someone to code it or attempt to port etc.
I agree and I think that it would be probably easier to build one based on the touch pro rom
wow, this looks good
would it be a similar process to make this into a panel as making TF3D into a panel? So it should be able to be done?
Would love this as a panel!
Love it....one more UI to show off to my MAColyte family (They hate it when i can show them that my winmo phone can change UI's lol)
looks promising but then so did 1.5 till I installed it..
Is the Bell interface based on it?
Check this out!

Looks nice!!!
Looks like it's still only optimised for VGA though, note the large gap at the bottom.
Nope, watch the video again, and note the use of the full screen.
So how do we get this or demo or trial it?

only one of the screens looks as if it has some gap at the bottom (others are filling the screen nicely). I'm guessing that even on that home/main screen, the gap is somewhere where you can add some quick access icons or something... or maybe not. It is still a work in progress, so let's hope for the best. (In my opinion, it looks way cooler than SPB)
Looks like it's just a Today plugin
it's activated via today plugin just like how touchflo3d is for the Touch series phone.
if there's a beta version of Home UI 2.0 available, I won't mind coding a panel for it. it's not very difficult after experimenting the nav panel.
btw, the UI works on WVGA but I don't think it's optimised. The home page has a chunk of white space wasted...
I think it looks really promising, can't wait to try it out... I found this on their website: "Accompanying the announcement was a demonstration of the user interface on the HTC Diamond, a customised build of Home 2." Does that mean that Telstra developed Touchflo 3D for HTC? I thought HTC made it themselves.

that demo on the HTC Diamond UI is not TouchFlo, but the PointUI interface customised for Telstra based on 1.51a platform
Looks sweet!
I wants me some of that!
If only Microslouch could make winmo look and work like that.
great work, can't wait to put my hands on it
Yes ok, but what about the phisical keybord???? Rotation screen will be supported? I really hope so... otherwise this ui doesn't make sense on xperia (as the tf3d imho)
he old version did (and still does it, even on my X1) this perfctly within 1-2 Seconds... So it's your guess what it will be like in the next version...

-widgets
-flexible engine (open development of widgets?)
-hardware accelaration support (will my mogul run faster?)
-facebook integrated into contacts!
-multiple home pages
-professional and lifestyle (huh?) layout
-kinetic scrolling
-fully customizable (themes supported?)
This can tide everyone over until 6.5! Way better than TouchFlo (IMO).
Amazing
Looks Amazing. Hmm Should I get ready to remove Manilla 2D off my Omina?

Not if SPB hasn't really done away with the standard Today screen. One of the reasons I didn't switch over to 2.0 was the fact that the Mobile Shell home screen did not replace the today screen. I know there's an XDA hack for that functionality, but MS 3.0 should take lesson from PointUI and replace today completely.
this looks awesome.
their standard/default themes always sucked. and somehow 3.0 looks just like 2.0 just with a little tune up..hmm...after all this announcements im a little bit disappointed.
was it announced when this would be available?
Uffff I think i would use this for sure!!! need a release date...
I am a little dissapointed. When I heard about Facebook integration, for some reason I was thinking of the ability to use chat, change status, etc... instead it is just a way to get the profile photo to the contact in your address book. Bummer.
I agree. Not much better than the current version. Should've integrated a few apps would've made it more useful. new version of mobile shell might make current skin invalid too.
So this is basically the same, but a little "upgraded." By not changing the overall idea at all, the same reasons I dont use 2 will be the same reasons I dont use 3. I was expecting so much more with the hype. PointUI kills this. Kills. When will they learn, keep it simple, make it customizable. Oh well.
It looks ok but PointUI didn't do anything for me either so I'll stick with my TF3D till either is truely better.
Glad to see they're trying something new since TouchFLO pretty much made me stop using Mobile Shell as it did what I needed, and it came with my OS, rather than having to install something on top.

Since when is PointUI customizable? I have used it and there is not customization built into it.
Any idea on when the beta of SPB3 will be out?
Do we realy need a second topic with the same questions and wishes?

JukEboXAuDiO, you seriously must be joking right! Pointui Home not customizable? Is being able to replace every graphic in the app, being the only UI with scripting support to allow you to build all sorts of applets and things, and being able to customize the background through the entire app not quite enough customization for you? Or are you referring to the old version released 12 mths ago?
I opened this thread because i really want to know what you other guys think about the new visual changes of WM 6.5. I personally think they are ugly and there is very little innovation in it. so basically most of things are increased in size ...When i saw for the frst time the mods i thought they were done by some registry change. if you compare it what HTC has done graphically is very very little i think. MS wants to make wm finger friendly by increasing the size of the graphic objects and dont care even if they look well or are aligned.
opinios are welcome
Agh who cares about the standard 6.5 home screen, everone has TouchFlo anyway...which is waaay better
i think 6.5 home is sexy, especially with the few themes made by some devs here on xda, i cant wait til seus give us 6.5(thats if)
i like the titanium home screen much more than TouchFlo
well the home wasnt my point actually i mean those new windows and those giant notifications ... sooo ugly ...

I agree with you, I thought that was a bug with my rom or it wasn't 'cooked' properly. I think MS have a long way to go to match the IPhone and various other touch phone interfaces.

Why? .
I think you guys are expecting WM7 features to be in WM6.5. That's just not the case. What I've seen (in the betas) isn't bad, but, definitely does not compete with next-gen smartphone OS'es (yet). I wouldn't judge WM6.5 until it is released.
I think the eye-candy element is only part of making a GUI and OS great. What else helps is refinement, speed and stability.
