Can you get a flash bowser for the x10?
This is a deal breaker for me if you can't as the desire ships with one.
No flash support as yet.
Who knows in the future. All being well the introduction of 2.1 to the x10 will provide the device will the capability of recieving the new adobe flash 10.1 plugin.
As it stands though I think that flash 10.1, requires 2.1. I don't think 1.6 will cut it.
The Desire as with HTC's other device uses variant of Flash called Flashlite. It's not the full fat version of flash and can be a bit hit and miss. I used to have it on my HTC Hero.

Thanks for the reply mate.
So in your opinion is it not worth getting the desire over a non fully functional flash program?
I just reckon the x10 looks amzing lol. Desire does not look so "desirable"

I like that.
I was faced with the same dilmma X10 or Desire???
If it wasn't for the for the lack of Multitouch and Colour support it would have been X10 all the way.
In the end I figured that although my hero was a solid handset, the Desire wouldn't be much different and so sprung for the X10.
The X10 offers a great browsing experience and although flash is not supported right now I think it will be in the end. If SE don't release 2.1 officially I'm sure the guys on here will cook something.
Basically the flash support that the Desire has to offer now is not what your looking for. Games do not flow to well and any site using the later versions will not be compatible.
When the Adobe releases flash 10.1 the Desire WILL get the update. I'm sure you've seen the Youtube videos of Flash 10 on the desire/N1, It looks fantastic!!
I think the X10 will eventually get it too but it may be much later.

Hi,
as I don't know anything about ROM-development I wanted to ask how difficult it would be to flash just a native Android 2.1 (Custom-) ROM on the phone. Is there a lot of modding to be done or is it no big thing.
UX sure is nice but I suppose plain 2.1 would be a lot faster. Maybe with Mediascape on top..
I don't want to wait until the official update in something like Q3..
I believe that you have to root the device first.
After that you can do almost everything you want with the monster named X10.
My guess would be vanilla 2.1 is the first major happening after the root. Not ready to give up on timescape/mediascape just yet. They are both developer extensible and I have a feeling that the smart guys around here are going to figure out some nifty uses. Interesting times if this device sees some support.

I am sure it will. It is very promising, unlike the X2....

I'd love to see a timescape/mediascape UI ROM for other Android phones.
Heck, I'd love to see the whole UI on another phone. I'm curious to see how it'll work. Specifically seeing as how the X10 won't be supporting multi-touch (as I hear it's a hardware issue as well as software), it'll be interesting to see the UI on a phone that supports multi-touch.

I've heard that also.
When it comes to software issues... it can be fixed..
But I think that I heard that it was possible a month ago.
I guess that we will just have to wait and see, if it is possible or not.

Here's an email i've got in modaco foruns:
Yesterday I sent an email to Sony Ericsson asking them to confirm specs features of their X10 handset. This is what I received.
Dear ******,
Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson support centre.
I have complied some answers to the questions that you have raised, please see below:
#1 Does the device itself support multi touch? I am aware that the the
current OS Android 1.6 does not.
The handset has a capacitive screen that is capable of multi touch for features such as pinch zooming. This feature will be implemented by the upgrade to 2.1
#2 Does the device have an internal digital compass which would show
direction in google maps?
The X10 does have a magnetometer that acts as a digital compass.
#3 Will android 2.1+ be coming to the Xperia x10 in 2010?
The handset has been confirmed to be upgraded to 2.1, however there are no time scales for this, developement is currently working on implementing the Timescape/Mediascape to 2.1.
Should you have any further questions do not hesitate to ask.
Kind Regards,
Paul Conlan

Has anyone tried to include the apks from the SDK addon in another ROM? Maybe I'm too naive, but it should be possible, shouldn't it? When you extract the system.img, there are several apks and most of them have the X10 icons.
http://developer.sonyericsson.com/c...263202126/102216-XPERIA-X10_SDK_Add-on_r1.zip
The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 add-on for the Android SDK includes the complete Android system with additions customizing it for the X10 : Sony Ericsson splash screen; X10 colour backgrounds; A "skin" of the X10 which is a simple graphic of the front of the phone; A hardware.ini file to set the operating parameters for screen, camera, audio and so on.

TBH, it doesnt really bother me.
Cant say I miss pinch to zoom on my X1 when coming across from my iPod.
I just double tap
Engadget is just passing on the word from the official blog that everyone is already talking about, it isnt from another source.
sounds great!!
I would also like to have plain 2.1
Just waiting root access
When it comes to multi-touch, I trust the fact that it will be supported come the 2.1 update. I hardly doubt Sony Ericsson would create a phone of this caliber without that capability.
That's why my XPERIA is going to sit on my desk, neatly packaged in its box... until 2.1 and root happens. My Nexus One is happy to get more playing time.

But I dont think you are! SE were to cheap and they were not supposed to upgrade to 2.1, but then all their competitors did and they did not have a choice.
(I think)

Sumit Malhotra confirms no MT on X10
Here's what he said:
Back in November, I posted that X10 will not support multi touch functionality at launch, but will be considered for the future. I can appreciate that even though there wasn´t a commitment, such wording both creates expectations (small or big) on future support and implies restrictions on software side.
That is the information I had in hand at that point of time. I am well aware that you rate multi touch functionality very high and therefore I regret to inform you that X10 screen hardware does not register simultaneous entries. Meaning even though we will upgrade the underlying operating system in relation to upgrading our user experience layer, X10 will not support multi touch functionality. We believe that it is important for you who follow this blog to be clear on that, which is the reason why I want to confirm Rikard’s comment.
We are working on alternative solutions for certain use cases, like zooming. I will share more details about that initiative once confirmed.
Due to vendor understanding and agreements, we don´t discuss in detail regarding hardware specifications. Having said that, X10 is upgradable and as earlier described there will be significant value offered through upgrades. X10 is about to reach stores and early consumer feedback is very positive, also highlighting room for improvement which we will share in due time.
Regards,
Sumit
There were some rumors that some of the Android devices of HTC will not receive the newest update to Android Froyo 2.2. While this is partially true, we’re happy to say that HTC Magic is not included in that “black list”.
As announced by the second largest French mobile operator SFR, the device will receive the desired Froyo soon. Some believe that this will take place even in this month. T-Mobile has also plans to update myTouch 3 G which is basically the same device to Froyo by the end of this year.
Let’s say that the device looks to handle the novelties quite well, considering the fact “of not being that new”. Good job!

so correct me if im wrong... but if the htc magic gets official android 2.2 does that mean the amazing developers here are going to have a field day with it and make it even better and more customizable than the actual creators of it?
I sure hope so would love to have a nice custom rom with 2.2 that works and with tons of bonus stuff pre installed.
Maybe you haven't noticed, but the amazing developers here are having a field day since the froyo source was dropped in to AOSP a few days ago. CM6 should be just around the corner.
i know they are already playing with it, but with a copy from the actually phone i imagine it would be easier to mod and play with since they dont have to port and do all kinds of ridicules things to get it to work on another phone.

Remember that the 32B Magic is the ION/ADP2, everything you need to get a fully working ROM is supplied in the AOSP. What you're suggesting is probably more relevant to devices like the Hero. At any rate, we'll probably see CM6 or some other froyo ROM before a shipped one.
ok well you seem to know more than i do so i hope a 2.2 near perfect rom comes out soom. im so excited lol
Yeah me too, Cyan's feed is the only reason I'm checking twitter atm, really looking forward to speed increases

HTC EVO 4G, Nexus One, Desire HD and Incredible joined the Honeycomb world....
it seems that, in this joyous family, missing only our HD2 ....
is possible or not ?

Yes.

Honey Monster
What is Honeycomb, I've heard (read) a few posts refering to this, but the only Literature I can find refers to Android 3.0 which is supposedly Tablet only. Can someone show me the way to enlightenment so I too may share the dream. I would love to add more OS to the seemingly endless capabilities of my HD2.
It is meant for tablet only. However some have modified the roms to run on Phones.
However, apparently the current phone Honeycomb ROMS are flakey to say the least.
I am so used to a stable working gingerbread I'd be hesitant to jump ship until its been through a few iterations on the HD2

Is Google trying to fatten us up by feeding us all these sweets before throwing us into the oven?
What is Gingerbread, Android 2.x??

Well my interest would simply be for trying it out for fun and curiosity more then as a daily OS.
Its primerily for tablets but would be nice to try on our HD2 screens, bit like the ubuntu UI.
Dear All Wildfire Users,
I would like to know if you could provide me some information & comparison between Wildfire & Galaxy Ace...
I'm going to purchase among these two...
Thanks...
Just by going though the tech specs, the Galaxy Ace seems to ace the Wildfire everywhere (Far better CPU, a good GPU, Larger Screen, Better Screen Res, ). The only downside as of now I see is the lack of the modding community for it. (Expected though, since it is a new phone)
I think samsung is not too popular in usa & europe...only asia & india...
that's why not many modification...only thing is the Ace is not support flash browser
Even Wildfire does not support it, just FYI.

Absolutely not. Flash is a feature included by default in Froyo 2.2, but, it requires ARMv7 or newer processors to run. Wildfire has an ARMv6 processor, so, Flash will never work on the Wildfire (Unless Adobe redesigns it to work with old hardware, which is next to impossible).
The only thing that works on Wildfire is FlashLite, along with Sense based ROM's, however, as expected, this is nowhere close to the real thing.

@Andy Milk Neo etc... ALL Techies
I know Flash is incompatible with the armv6 processor of Optimus one.
But i heard flashlite works well on eclair browser and low level s60 symbian phones with less hardware capabilities than O1.
SO, O1 having better config can atleast get flashlite. Is their any possibility to make it work with stock froyo or on your gingerbread rom.?? Flash or open-source alternatives for it.
Plzzzz do something. It would be of gr8 help to many.
no answers .??????
I'm gonna repeat what I've see elsewhere. First flashlite is very limited. If you are expecting to use Hulu or some other site it ain't gonna happen. There is a mod that gets 10.1 working on these old phones but first you need HTC sense and second it still acts like flash lite.
Another point is that the necessary info needed to port flash to an armv6 does not exist. Add in the fact these processors just don't have the horsepower to handle it, like why we will never see Google Earth on these phones. And the time vs benefit factor is low considering armv6 processors are dinosaurs, many users have moved on to bigger, better phones now.
