Can't Get GPS to work! - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

I just purchased my TD2 this past week, and have been trying to get the gps to work ever since but have not been successful. I tried google maps (COM 4, port 4800 up to 56700), downloaded garmin mobile xt (com 4: com 4), beeline gps (COM 4, port 4800) but none of them work. Beeline GPS does, however, find a gps signal when it searches but I don't think it's working because it doesn't display the coordinates of my location.
I also have one of the latest Radio ROMs (4.49.25.91), so I don't think that is an issue either. Please help! Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Mine just worked out of the box.
Have you tried, in Google Maps, using the "Managed by Windows" option? I've never had to change the default settings in any way.
Hope this helps.

run quickGPS. It will speed up the satellite search. It comes with WM

actually, i have the same problem. Managed by windows, and AGPS updated, but i can't get my GPS to work, any comment welcome.

I have had some problems with GPS on my pure as well. I found that turning on the wifi (even if there is no hotspot) helped me out. Also sometimes wont wok unless the bluetooth is turned off. I hope that helps

thanks for all the replies... the quickgps did the trick. I needed to download some satellites... I just assumed it would work out of the box.
Thanks again, this site is great!

Check out a program called gpsgate. It will locate more satellites, and get them quick. I use Garmin xt, and it works better with the gpsgate.

GPS problem

Hi all,
I have encountered a strange problem on my IPAQ 6915.
I am using the IGo GPS spftware and it suddenly stopped detecting satellites.
The really weird thing is that when I set the IGO to find the GPS on com7 with 57600, the IGO program starts going haywire and it it looks like it is clashing with another program.
I have removed all the latest software I installed (mostly SPB utils) but that didn't help.
Another issue may be a registry cleanup I did with SK tools.
I am not sure how to solve this - any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Danny.
Hi danab11 !
Did you try with Quick GPS Connection and download the newest satelite location files ? You can Try this. You just go to Start -> Settings -> Connection and there is an Icon with name: Quick GPS Connection -> click on that Icon and then press Button: Download Now (Before that Turn on your Wirelless internet connection that software can download this files)
Best Regards,
Drahtman
I think the problem us deeper then actually detecting satellites.
I think the problem us deeper then actually detecting satellites.
I think the IGO software is conflicting with another program.
The strange thing is that it only happens when I set the com port of IGO to 7 (which is the only correct port).
Any ideas?
Same here!
I'm having the same problem, anyone figure this out?
It just stopped detecting satellites, using TT6.

RichesseGPS?

Hi guys,
I've previously used Richesse GPS for geocaching- its a great, free lightweight GPS programme. http://code.google.com/p/richesse-gps/
I can't get it to work on my Jade. I've edited the registry as mentioned on other posts, and have told Richesse to use Com4 at 9600 baud.
I'd be interested to see whether anyone else has successfully used this software on their Jade?
Thanks heaps,
-Clark

Hey thanks for the hint, nice program!
I have no problem getting gps to work, i used com4 / 9600 baud and ticked autoconnect and reconnect. then i activated gps, waited a little while and voilĂ ...works
hope i could help
Strange, as I still can't get it to work. In the "GPS Info" menu item, it says "Status: not running", and I never get any GPS data.
I confirm that Com4 and 9600 baud works on the device, as I've no problems with other GPS software. Have you modified your device firmware or registry settings at all? When you say you "activated GPS", do you mean you just selected "GPS ON" in the Richesse screen?
Thanks for the help!

exactly...
i did:
options-> gps
Port: com4
Baud: 9600
(+) autoconnect
(+)reconnect)
[OK]
Left Softkey (GPS On)
this softkey then changes into GPS Off and when selecting menu-gps info i have status: Running
Stock german ROM, nothing modified...
Have you tried other GPS programs ?
By the way, does the baud rate matter at all ? I Use 4800 bps and it works, too.
Got it working guys- I was doing something stupid! Yes, all other GPS programs worked fine. The reason I couldn't get it to work was I was mis-understanding the "GPS On" button- I assumed that was a status readout, saying the GPS was on.
So when I thought the GPS was on, I was actually turning it off.. Thanks heaps for the help!
Please help
I tried all suggested setting, but I believe it is still not working for me.
As with COM 4 and 9600 setting, it is swtiching on the GPS with left soft key. But it is not retrieving my location and doesn't show the compass as well. Even in the GPS info tab it shows running but other details are unknown like latitude etc.
Please help, thanks in advance!!

Possible G.P.S. Activation Fix

I'm pretty sure the following tip is accurate. I received yesterday a new HD, my first having broken just by pressing the screen! I was very relieved that just by reinstalling from memory card all my apps, that the apps settings were still valid - I didn't fancy having to go all through setting up tomtom again with pocketgps camera database and warning tones.
However I did notice that after switching Tomtom on, it was hit and miss whether my unit found any satellites. By going into the satellite status screen, I could see that the software would access the satellites for a few seconds then lose them again. I also noticed that a fix for this was to run google maps first and turn on gps from there.
This was strange, since my previous HD, locked on within seconds every time. Hardware issue? Maybe, but thought I'd try to remember anything I hadn't done on my new HD that I had on my old.
"Ha-Ha" I thought, I haven't run the connection wizard, and this is sort of a connection issue.
Start --> Settings ---> Connection ----> Connection Set Up-----> Tap O.K. ----> restart
Now TomTom works perfectly and picks up connections immediately without google map initiation.
Try it if you having similar troubles!
cheers,
mooro
For me this must be a placebo, neither do I understand why the connection setup has anything to do with the gps chipset, nor does it work me. I have configured my connection using the connection setup and nevertheless I have some gps drops with iGO.
I think this gps drops have some other background, I will try a new radio version. Some people also said that it might help to change the polling interval, but for me neither an increase nor a decrease of the interval has changed anything about it.
Not a placebo for me, is working perfectly now.

Nobody has said that placebos don't work, but the reason why they work is controversial. Maybe you have done something else, because I really can't imagine how the connection setup could fix a problem with the gps.
However, its good to know that it runs for you, maybe it will work for me with the new radio also.
How about this theory:
Because you did not do the connection setup yet, the GPS Quickstart had not run yet. So no almanac of GPS satelite data existed yet, meaning it was an icecold start?
And Google Maps worked faster because it is using the 'about' position of the GPS towers to bootstrap the location?
Placebo works only for those that believe in it!
This device is A-GPS capable.
Don't know whether e-plus supports A-GPS services but in theory this might be a clue
I have tried all of the above and still I cannot get GPS to work
If I open google maps it just keeps searching with indicayor showing no satellites.
When using TomTom it displays a number of satellites but all appear grey and none become active
Advice welcome

It may be too obvious to mention, but: Did you try this outside with a good sky view? Cold start is always a bit more tricky.

have you tried start ---> settings ----> external gps --->access---> check manage gps automatically?
and in google maps, options-->gps settings---> toggle auto/windows?
I am fairly sure intermittent gps is a memory problem of some sort. I used to get that a lot running IGO. Now I kill TouchFlo every time before running IGO, and even thought the problems still happens sometimes, it is clearly much less often. You can find the description of how to kill TouchFlo using Mort script in IGO thread. This makes the whole thing clearly better (not perfect).

Tried both of these.
Yes I can see that satellites are being picked up but both google maps and tomtom don't fix onto any of them. They all just appear grey
Maybe you should try a tool by htc to try and wakeup your gps. Run the file on your HD and from function menu select chip and then q7200. Choose port 4 and baud rate 4800. Then open the port and wait for a gps fix. After that close the port and exit the gps tool. Then run your gps navigator and see if it works!
Hi,
I had issues with GPS and tomtom 7.
I discovered that it was caused by a modification I did to the registry with HD Tweak.
Here is what I did:
going thru the settings with HD Tweak I seen that default value for AGPS was Disabled so I decided to set it to enabled it as I now the phone is capable of it.
After that The GPS would only work once with tomtom, if I closed tomtom and re open it again it GPS would not be found, I had to reboot the phone for it to work again (for an other single use).
I restored the AGPS value to Disable with HD Tweak and everything worked perfectly after.
Though I noticed that tomtom will still use AGPS when GPS sensor is down, but I can say if this is how it used to worked before the registery tweak because I did the tweak immediately after installing tomtom.
I had a similar problem with Advanced Config after I turned on Quick GPS Fix, turning it off seemed to fix it.

I don't think so. My "fix" (as I reported in another thread) is to change baudrate in IGO GPS configuration. After one or few baudrate change, the connection is stable.
No one as reported this fix not working.
So it seem a virtual COM port issue..

Yeah !!! Seems to work on my side !! I just spent minutes fighting with my HD this afternoon, still loosing the GPS device... I had to activate one other GPS app to make it work. Now I just changed this setting and it seems to work !!
Thanks for the info ! You're my king
Worked for me by turning off a-gps in HD Tweak and enabling it through the gps app on the rom.
after flashing the 1.10.25.25 radio on my HTC diamond, The GPS signal goes on and off, on and off....continuously on the TomTom GPS status. it was strange, I have to use QuickGPS to download the data again on open air to get the signal on continuously again. If I download the data inside my house, it just go on and off again when I use it on open air.

GPS issues

Now i have Touch HD for about 2 weeks, and my GPS is not working. I tried so much. HTC GPS Tool, TomTom7, iGo8, GPS Test, changing COM Ports, Baudrate and so. But my GPS isn't working. It doesn't found Satelites, and i get no GPS Fix.
Im over with my ideas.
Can someone help me to get the GPS working?
I hope you understand me because I am an Austrian
The first GPS-Fix could take some time.
First I would try this:
connect your Pda to the internet (wifi,...) and download with "quickgps" the local sat-gps-data
then try to connect again with a gps-program.
beware that you must stand outsite, irq is 4. if there's no connection after 15 minutes your settings are broken and it would better to make a hard-reset.
Before installing gps-programs make a backup.
also i would consider to flash an actual rom. the gps works now really much better, also in buildings.
you can use for quick gps testing, i mean without installing an application, mobilemagic. good luck.
I have the current QuickGPS datas and I did 4 hard resets, because i hoped that it would help, but nothing.
I was driving around with my car for about 2 hours but no signal.
And i was testing it with the old Radio Rom 1.09 and the new Radio 1.10. But same issues.
Check to make sure aGPS is turned off and that you are just using GPS.
Also, stand outside without moving when getting a fix. It can take up to 15 minutes as the HD downloads the data from the satellites.
As for settings, using COM Port 4 with baud of 57600 works for me.
I think your description isn't good enough in order to say what is wrong.
The best you can do is to use programs like VisualGPSce or BeeLineGPS.
AGPS is turned off in AdvancedConfig.
VisualGPS and BeeGPS didn't start on my Touch HD
Now i test it with GPSTest and it says "GPS Starting Up" for about 20 minutes
"VisualGPS and BeeGPS didn't start on my Touch HD"
This tells me you have a problem somewhere on your HD, not even gps related (but which does cause also GPS not to work). Have you installend .net 3.5?
Yes .NET Framework 3.5 is installed.
VisualGPSce tells me "Could not initialize communication buffer size"

GPS doesn't run

Hi
I use TomTom6 with my X1, and it did works fine before. Since a view days I didn't got any GPS-Signal at all. Is there anyone who can help?
Thanks for your help.
Regards, Richard
Simple things to try first:
1. Switch off/on
2. Download the latest QuickGPS file
3. Stand outside for several minutes with Tomtom running
Open up the GPS monitor in Tomtom and you should see the bars move up and down as it acquires satellites. If you see that, just be patient until the bars turn blue which means you have a lock. If you see no bars at all, and maybe a message saying 'No GPS', use the configure option to select the built-in receiver.
Had the same problem and even the new QuickGPS load did not work.
I installed the HTC GPS tool and searched for the Satelites with the "Clear Memory" option. Took a bit longer ~15 Min to get the fix, but now it works fine as well in TomTom
try to disable assisted gps
generally it don't work indoors really try outside
