Data connection starting when opening Sense? - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

Why is my data connection starting when I reboot my phone and sense is about to start?

Probably weather or time syncing with network.
Nice taskbar BTW... great work.

It might be weather, but even if I remove the weather tab it keeps doing it. How do I disable the time sync thing?

I think the setting resides in Clocks and Alarms I don't recall.
If not, maybe in settings tab.
Also, weather will still attempt to update even with tab removed because of home tab weather.

The time synchronization in the settings tab is disabled. Really don't know what it might be, and thanks btw, glad you liked it
EDIT: I think I found the problem, I disabled the sync for Facebook/Twitter and Youtube and now it won't autoconnect anymore.

I assume you want to prevent data from connecting, have you tried No Data or something similar?
Ah, NM. Glad you fixed it.

HELP! Wifi gone on my HTC Hero

Hey guys,
I have no idea what happened but since yesterday I lost my ability to connect to wifi networks.
I have tried turning wifi on/off, turning the whole phone off and on as well. I went into the wireless controls -> wifi settings and checked/unchecked the "network notification" option, nothing...
I did the new hero firmware update via the HTC Poland site about a week ago since it took my serial number just fine (thought so since my unbranded phone came with eastern European countries listed in the locale and language settings) and everything was fast, nice and dandy until this happened.
Any ideas why? What can I do to try and fix it? Hopefully it didn't die forever (HW failure)
Helpppp! I also tried using a 3rd app program like wifi buddy and wifi analyzer (I already had them installed) but they don't see anything, no networks. Uninstalled wifi buddy since I installed that after the 2.73 update and thought it might be conflicting somehow with the build in stuff but still nothing.
Help please!
Hi,
I have the same problem since yesterday night.
Absolutely the same (Hero, new ROM installed one week ago...)
Strange. I hope, this is not a scheduled hardware failure. :-D
Regards,
-RoB-
Are you able to turn the Wifi on? I had similar problem.
Yes, I can turn the wifi on, the toggle shows it on, and in the settings seems to work, but this can't find any wifi network, and there isn't any wifi indicator icon on the status bar. Meantime i am using my netbook on my wifi network, so I have a network, and I have tried it in my office, with the same outcome.
So I am very disappointed. It was very good in the last 3-4 weeks.

Did you do hard reset? Try it
try to install drizzy/modaco firmware..
or maybe hard reset also
Same issue. Used Modaco 2 ROM. No hard reset yet.
same problem
I had the same problem. A few days after ROM upgrade (Orange) I could not detect wifi signals. I also had installed wifi buddy and something called Y5. Even after uninstalling these programs the wifi did not detect.
After a factory reset it seems to work OK for now!!
After same issue I have take it back to the shop. They flashed it again with the new ROM, wipe my data, and so on (okay, a have made some backup).
After it, my wifi was working again, but I could not use mobil internet. Same issue as with wifi before.
After this I have reboot the Hero, then it did not boot anymore.
It stucks in the HTC logo and not continue booting.
So tomorrow I will take it back to shop again, and I will try to change it to a new one. I think it is a hardware failure.

Damn.... hard reset?
Is a hard reset the same as doing a factory restore using the option in the phone settings?
I guess this is just like doing a new firmware update, backup contacts and programs with mybackup but still having to re-do the home screens (all 7) and re-apply FB pics to contacts, etc.
This suxxxx
I really hope this isn't a hardware failure that is going to keep on happening. I think it is going to be related to the new firmware update if anything..
Cause before the update (performed 2 weeks ago) I was using the firmware that the phone brought and it was working perfectly on many different wifi networks all the time... this was for about a month or two...

Why not sync your contacts with google?

Because I have 1527 contacts in google contacts (basically everyone I've ever emailed for some reason... guess google auto adds them) and I don't want those to pass over to the phone... so I disabled the auto sync on contacts at the initial setup and just left it for gmail and calendar.
I had the same prob with my HTC Pro and winMO + MSN... it imported all my hundreds of msn contact to my phone contact list and it sucked!
Unless there is a specific subgroup in google contacts or way to make it so it only syncs/reads the ones I want it to?
K for your contacts, go to people app groups tab create a group called phone. Add your contacts to this group then go back to the group tab press menu then 'sync groups' make sure only phone is checked. Enable contact sync and your away.

Ok I went into the "All contacts" menu and then into the "Groups" tabs by using the bottom sliding menu. I then clicked on "add group" and created the group called HTC Hero. I went into the group , clicked menu button on the phone then clicked on the "Edit" option that popped up and it gave me the option to "add contact to group" so I added 62 contacts.
Now I'm stuck there... I've checked in the "all contacts" menu, the "Groups" tab, the "HTC Hero" group I created and hit the menu button on all of them but I get nothing that says "sync groups" or gives me the option to select which groups to sync.
The only thing I can ever find is by just going into the sync settings and having the gmail, calender and contacts "autc sync" checkmark.
Help
It is easier than that.
Go into People, and then Groups. Press "Menu" and the "Sync Groups". I've never set up any groups, so I'm presented with two "default" groups:
1. Sync all contacts
2. My contacts
Ensure that only "My Contacts" is ticked and you should be good to go, as "My Contacts" only includes people you've explicitly set up as a contact, as opposed to everyone you've emailed or received email from.
Regards,
Dave
EDIT: I just noticed that you said you don't ever see the "Sync Groups" options. Possibly this is because you did not select the option to sync contacts when you initially set up the phone. Assuming you've a custom recovery image, I'd be inclined to make a nandroid backup and try wiping the phone and setting it up from scratch again - at least the initial stages to see if you can get "Sync Groups" to appear. If it doesn't do anything, you can restore your backup.

Yup... maybe that's it.
Ok so to do a nandroid backup, do I need to root it? Cause I haven't done that.

I had a similar problem after upgrading to the latest MoDoCo release. I tried everything bar hard reset. Lastly I removed the wifi networks that were listed in Wifi Settings and it fixed the issue. I later found out that whenever a BTOpenzone hotspot was remembered in my list of networks wifi would stop working, if I remove that hotspot wifi starts working again. No idea why.
Hope this can be of some help.

Holy hell... you got it!
So it looks like this is a bug of some sorts. I remember that the last wifi network I remembered was one off an APPLE airport or whatever device they use to share wireless connections... so that must have been it. If not maybe it was one in Bennigans (yes, it still exists down here in Panama).

HD2 data connects by itself

Periodically throughout the day my HD2 will automatically and by itself make a data connection, which then stays open until I disconnect it. Initially, I thought it was the Weather or Stock tab, and I've disabled the automatic update for those; in fact, I don't even use the HTC Sense Today plug-in. I can't figure out what other app(s) may be making their own connection, so am appealing to the pros here with any suggestions.
Thanks much,
James.
got your phone linked to your facebook account? how about the twitter tab? email accounts? internet time sync?
go to settings tab, and tap 'data services', and have a look through the options there.
Thanks for the tip, looks like the time was set up to sync over the Internet. Didn't see it because I wasn't using HTC Sense. I think it likely that was the cause as nothing else was connecting automatically. If the trouble continues, I'll post a follow-up, but I think it's likely solved.
Thanks much,
James.

Sync Indication

I've looked around the forum a bit, haven't seen this mentioned. Sometimes when I look at my notification bar, the little sync symbol is ON and it stays there for hours until I manually kill it in settings. The only things I have set to sync is Google and Weather app set to hourly. Anyone else having this issue? I am rooted, but still running stock. No ROMs loaded YET!
I've noticed it on mine also. I'm pretty sure its not syncing anymore as there is no data going through on the 3G icon. I also noticed it takes longer to clear out Gmail notifications.

i have the same problem, it started a few days to a week ago, and i'm not rooted. i just kill the sync manually.
I also had this issue and this may not actually be the case for everyone, but my T-Mobile sync thing was running (even though I had it unchecked). No idea how to permanently kill it :-/
I also found it was the "T-Mobile" sync. I unchecked it, but it does appear to sync anyways once a day. I just check it and uncheck it again and it works the rest of the day. I discovered that it's syncing to my "MyLife" profile on tmobile.com. It does give you the option to remove the account, but I haven't done it yet.

It is the T-mobile sync that is messing up. Unfortunatly you cant remove it if you are running a stock MTS. Matter of fact....not sure you can remove it with a rooted MTS but I would imagine you can. Since I rooted it hasnt been trying to sync as often but I have it unchecked (not to sync) and it still tries to. Welcome to T-mobile bloatware!!!

You actually can remove it after flashing a new ROM, but you have to do so before booting up for the first time (or it will cause FC issues in your 'Accounts and Sync' settings).
Mount the system, then:
adb shell
cd /system/app
rm NabService.apk
rm NabService.odex
This eliminates T-Mobile sync from the list, but I'm not entirely sure it gets rid of the problem (perhaps its set to sync anyway elsewhere?). I've had it removed for a while now and haven't seen any adverse effects, so I suppose I'll leave it out.
When I remove NabService I get an error everytime I try to open Accounts & Sync...

You have to do it before booting your phone the first time after flashing a new ROM. I'll go back and bold that in my previous post.

[Q] Disabling AutoSync on data connection

I noticed that sometimes when I turn on GPRS/EDGE in my Android 2.2, I can see the sync icon at the top. So obviously my contacts/mail/calendar is syncing automatically.
How can I disable any such background processes on my data connection? I have no problem doing it on WiFi, but GPRS/EDGE is kind of pricey here, so I avoid using it for stuff like syncing.

go settings/accounts & sync/untick auto sync
But that would disable Auto Sync even on Wifi.
There's no way to do it...it's either on or off.
Apps like Tasker may let you setup this kind of option.

Screen Wake from FB Messenger

Phone screen just flickers on and off when I get FB notifications. Seems like a glitch.
When this happens, is the phone in vibration mode? Other possibility is that you may have set a screen passcode recently and in the process also enabled hide sensitive notifications and it is possible that it may be interfering for phone to wake up on certain notifications. Are the FB messages from messenger present when you do wake the screen or do they show up right after you wake up the screen? You may have changed the phone sync settings or if you have enabled power saving mode, phone may not be checking for notifications from certain apps or in intervals or both, or if you or another app have disabled facebook messenger from syncing or changed background data settings (for example datally is an app from google helps save data if you don't have unlimited plan but in the process it disables most apps from connecting to internet by default).
I would suggest go in settings, then apps, then tap on three dots on top right, enable 'show system apps', then look for any apps related to facebook, click on each one go to 'storage' then 'clear data'. Make sure you do this for all of them before you go back into FB or messenger. You will have to log in FB again and it is quite possible that this will fix the issue if settings were the cause. (Edit: Try uninstall and reinstall the app). If it doesn't work, and you have checked through all the possibilities above, you may have to do a factory reset, setup the phone again and reinstall FB and Messenger app first then install a few apps at a time to try and catch any apps that might be responsible. One last possibility that i can think of is that it is also possible a recent update to the app by FB may have caused this bug instead of you or your phone.

That's an interesting point you make, because the phone is doing just that - The phone isn't actually vibrating until I hit the screen and wake it. So they're essentially showing up right after I wake the screen. This is despite the fact that the message was sent minutes beforehand, so it would've been received by all accounts. Appreciate the help!

Very likely you have the Battery saver feature turned on. When it is on, among other things, the background activity and data of apps get restricted. I am very sure that this is the cause for the issue you are having. You can either turn off Battery saver mode or add FB Messenger to the Power saving exclusions list to get your FB push notifications back.
Appreciate all the help man!
Great thank you!
