I was looking in a few other threads with screenshots and other examples and saw that many people had customized the line just below the Start button and just above the flip clock to say various things they wanted.
Mine just currently says 3G T-Mobile.
I apologize for such a newbie question, but how do you customize that? Can you customize it with a custom ROM? I'm on Elegancia 2.5 if that matters.
Thanks!
Never mind I'm an idiot
For those that come in here and want to know the same thing the app is the CHTEditor and comes on the ROM I already had
Yeah make sure you have the latest version of Cookie 1.7, even more customizations to be made.

Ive seen and heard the device can be easily adjusted to my needs...
Im kinda wondering if i can remove the stocks and footprints from touchflo, and then add a newspaper widget for example, or a games/application menu.
Also, id like to use a real start menu instead of getting a list of icons when i press start.
Is this all changable?
anyone? is this hard to answer?
Is it possible with hacks/tweaks, or in settings, or not at all?

You can do some of what you ask, but not all.
To remove tabs from the Sense UI, go to the Home page, click Menu, and select "Personalize Home Screen Tabs". You can re-order, remove and re-add tabs there. I don't have stocks or footprints either, as I have no need for them.
You can't (currently) just add a tab to the Sense UI. It's not widget based, so it isn't possible. It may become possible in the future, but I don't expect that to happen. You may be better off looking at something like PointUI Home. That's a FANTASTIC UI that is much more customisable than Sense. You can find out about that here.
Finally, the start menu is the windows start menu, so you're stuck with what you've got.... unless you try something like QuickMenu, which I used to use and would highly recommend. You can get that from here.
Hope this gets you closer to what you're after. Have fun

wow that sucks alot.
I like the theme and eyecandy of SENSE UI, but not being able to add your own tabs sucks....ALOT.
I have not seen any other UI yet that is capable of bringing a similar high graphics and eyecandy experience.
Actually you can add your own tabs, but making a tab is not something that's easy.

ive seen iphone UI, point home UI, SPB shell....compare them to HTC sense...htc sense is alot better, but really lacks the "adding more tabs" function.
They could make sense UI such a success...but we are so limited with the functions of it now.
Think of it...
im making a own thread.

You can make PointUI work exactly the same as Sense. You just need to spend time on it. Then, you will have a UI that looks and acts exactly like Sense, but you can add new tabs and widgets as you see fit.
It does do what you are asking, but you need to put time into it.
Anyway, as I've said to you in another thread, you really need to wait till you have the phone. You are asking lots of questions that you can't even try the answers for yet.
can a moderator lock this thread? i would like to continue this discussion in the other thread.

must you flash the rom in order to customize anything on the HD2?
I wonder if i could just customize the clock, sliding bar, and icons, make some transperancies?
I've clicked through atleast 3 pages but cant find a definite answer.
Thnx in advance.
no not at all. Go have a read in the themes and apps section of the regular hd2 section.

First job, check out co0kies home tabs.
its only roms and radios you have to be careful about, the regular apps and tweaks should all work on the tmous.
thnx very much
Hello,
I was just wondering if there is a way to change the default 3 icons wide quick launch icons using the TMOUS stock rom? I've seen custom roms with 4 and I'm thinking this would suit me better but I dont really want to flash a custom rom until I find out more of what I want.
TIA.

One of the greatest projects to ever come out of XDA is "CoOkie's Home Tab Editor" (aka "CHT")...it will allow you to do all sorts of customization to the home tab on your stock ROM (and on many custom ones as well). It's a powerful tool, but dirt-simple to use. There's also an add-on known as "CoOkie's Home Tab Editor" which gives it even more functionality and flexibility. It's going to be the easiest way to make the kinds of changes you're wanting...links to the threads for both of those are below, and the screenshot shows the customizing I've done to my stock ROM, 90% of which was achieved with CHT and the editor...
CoOkie's Home Tab
CoOkie's Home Tab Editor
In the screenshot below, CHT/CHTE are responsible for the following:
-The location and layout of the quick link icons (you can have even more on the screen than that, if you want)
-The clock/weather size, style, and position
-The notification bar just below the clock...size and location as well
-The custom device (carrier) name just above the clock
And that's really just the tip of the iceberg with what you can do with it
Great advice. Works great. Many thanks.
After using this for a couple of days and getting all the apps where I want them, it would be amazing if we could do the same thing to our contacts instead of being limited to 15.

I have installed CHT and CHTEditor 1.7.11 and love the functionality that it adds, but one thing that I have lost is the ability to change the apps in the Home Tab itself. Does anyone else have this problem?

if you mean you can no longer apply quicklinks, you have probably ticked 'hide empty quicklinks'.
menu - cookies home tab editor - quicklink settings - hide empty quicklinks to off.
I am keen to remove the redundant settings in the TouchWiz taskbar - you know, the brightness settings and toggle switches.
From the logic of previous android devices, these settings are an app running in the background. I suspect the app is CP Message. Can anyone confirm this?
Oh man i cant tell you how badly i would love to get rid of the brightness toggle when sliding my finger over the notification bar. it is my most hated feature of these devices. Unfortunitely it is still prevalent even with touchwiz removed.
someone should make a work around, put it in the market, charge $5 and make a living off sales forever.
unfortuniely i havent been able to find any accounts where people have been able to remove it or some of the other redundent touchwiz features.
Why not try switch to a new launcher app, like ADW.Launcher or LauncherPro?

As you probably know, because custom launchers dont modify the taskbar. For that you would need a custom rom.
So far it appears as though custom roms are not replacing the taskbar though. Which makes me one sad camper.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
So far there are no custom roms.
What would you call any of the roms that are posted at these forums? Why wouldn't they be called "custom roms"
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I would call them roms for devices that are not the galaxy tab.
These particular subforums currently have have no custom roms.
If you want to be the first to make one, I and many others will be suitably impressed
bump - please move to development shr
So, you know, um, set Brightness to "auto" in Sound and Display and that locks the notification bar invisible slide to brightness feature.
I will say that the TouchWiz notification bar tweaks are one of the big selling points of TouchWiz for a lot of people. No accounting for taste, I reckon.
The xScope web browser can hide the top bar, so it is obviously something that a launcher could do too. I haven't tried with any of ADW.Launcher, Launcher Pro, and the stock launcher...anyone with the patience to go through each of the app settings ?
I really don't think its an app,as all the corresponding immages and control files are in framework...like miui rom or cm6.1...
I know that ive read heaps of info and it has confused me evan more.
Model X10i
Android version 2.3.3
Baseband 2.1.71
Kernel it wont let me post this question with this included
Build 3.0.1.G.0.75
All im looking for is a way to downgrade for handset back to Android 1.6 or to change the menu bar at the bottom of the screen back.
I know its probably ptretty basic but im lost. I just dont like the way it looks and prefered the 1.6 style.
Again Im sorry but im a technical idiot so a step by step guide is what Im looking for
I don't know how to do this, but I'm shocked anyone would want to...
1.6 was horrible, and most apps won't support it
Basicly, i hate the dark colour over the home bar at the bottom of the screen. I only use it as a phone with a few games. If someone can show me how to change the transparency of that bar that would fix the problem
why don't you just install a launcher? like adw launcher ex, there's a lot of themes for it and a lot of options to customize your home screen, dock, etc. also there's many custom roms as you can see at develop section, and not all of them are like you say, even some roms come with another launcher instead the SE homescreen
