Edit touchflo/sense/manilla to myself possible? - HD2 General

Ive seen and heard the device can be easily adjusted to my needs...
Im kinda wondering if i can remove the stocks and footprints from touchflo, and then add a newspaper widget for example, or a games/application menu.
Also, id like to use a real start menu instead of getting a list of icons when i press start.
Is this all changable?

anyone? is this hard to answer?
Is it possible with hacks/tweaks, or in settings, or not at all?

You can do some of what you ask, but not all.
To remove tabs from the Sense UI, go to the Home page, click Menu, and select "Personalize Home Screen Tabs". You can re-order, remove and re-add tabs there. I don't have stocks or footprints either, as I have no need for them.
You can't (currently) just add a tab to the Sense UI. It's not widget based, so it isn't possible. It may become possible in the future, but I don't expect that to happen. You may be better off looking at something like PointUI Home. That's a FANTASTIC UI that is much more customisable than Sense. You can find out about that here.
Finally, the start menu is the windows start menu, so you're stuck with what you've got.... unless you try something like QuickMenu, which I used to use and would highly recommend. You can get that from here.
Hope this gets you closer to what you're after. Have fun

wow that sucks alot.
I like the theme and eyecandy of SENSE UI, but not being able to add your own tabs sucks....ALOT.
I have not seen any other UI yet that is capable of bringing a similar high graphics and eyecandy experience.

Actually you can add your own tabs, but making a tab is not something that's easy.

ive seen iphone UI, point home UI, SPB shell....compare them to HTC sense...htc sense is alot better, but really lacks the "adding more tabs" function.
They could make sense UI such a success...but we are so limited with the functions of it now.
Think of it...
im making a own thread.

You can make PointUI work exactly the same as Sense. You just need to spend time on it. Then, you will have a UI that looks and acts exactly like Sense, but you can add new tabs and widgets as you see fit.
It does do what you are asking, but you need to put time into it.
Anyway, as I've said to you in another thread, you really need to wait till you have the phone. You are asking lots of questions that you can't even try the answers for yet.

can a moderator lock this thread? i would like to continue this discussion in the other thread.

Which "shell" is the fastest? (SPB, ultimatelaunch,...)

Hi,
I own a Nike and wanna change its "GUI". There are great skins available (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=421944) but I want the Nike to be also as fast as possible, so which one is the fastest? Thanks a lot
PointUI home, is very fast - just uses quite alot of resources.
>> See more details about PointUI Home, click here
SPB mobile shell is also fast, but I find ulitmateluanch and throttle launcher the slowest.
UL is still my favorite. It's customizable and uses the least amount of resources.
I think it's homescreen++
Tried a bunch of them, and it's the lightest, fastest and most stable IMHO !
Homescreen++ isn't a shell, it's a today plugin
I tried them all, and each time I come back to Ultimate Launcher. It seems that it's the only program my Trinity can handle well.

well ultimatelaunch is a today plugin too dude !
I guess you're talking about fullscreen app, but that's not the question
Somehow I prefer the today plugin style because then I don't have to worry about red button taking me out of the launcher/UI/whatever.
I used UL and BatteryStatus (before it turned into Homescreen ++) but I found in general the full UI has better response. My favorite is Pointui but currently they're hanging in development so I'll wait till they come back to it.
I also use MortButtons now, strictly for program launcher.
i would say either htc home or battery status, both use very little resources

I prefer Large HTC Home
It works good and no too much resources consumed, and in my fantastic 3.5" VGA screen looks very nice!
Cheers to all
yargo is vary customizable but dont know how far i can customize it. i like to use htc home with ul
Ive tried most of them but I always end up going right back to Ultimate Launcher.. My current setup is Homescreen++ as my main main screen in Ultimate laucher

Trying to Kill My Sense Addiction

Coming from a G1 after two years and Cyanogen, I felt it was inevitable that I would hate Sense UI. I hated teh Hero version, but after being stuck with stock for two weeks and SlideMeRoot for another, I grew attached. I am now torn, whether I should move on to a more stock Android feel or wait for the Froyo update that will never come... I also ponder why we exist and how the universe works.
Yes it is for this reason I now establish the first SUAA. Sense UI Addicts Anonymous I thought I also would hate it, but I am close to installing the Launcher Pro Beta or whatever it's called to wean myself off of it.................... This group would have it's own steps: Step 1: Admitting that you have an addiction, but continue to clutter your device screen with widgets that aren't even really that useful and take up entire screens on the Home pages. Step 2: Install an alternate Home app Step 3: Don't look back and hope the update doesn't cause you to relapse.
How I got over my Sense UI addiction:
Switched to LauncherPro.
Got the Weather and Toggle Widget (you can also get Fancy Widget which is free). This replaces the HTC weather & clock widget.
Twitter + Facebook widgets on one screen. This replaces FriendStream.
That's about it. There's nothing else I liked about the Sense UI.
Original Sense UI = kickass
Espresso = Cheap TMO inspired UI with some real Sense UI widgets thrown in. IE. the weather widget.
I never understood how much I missed plain no-border icons until I finally installed one of Eugene's ROMs

I can't stand the Original Sense UI tho... Maybe I'll finally flash SlideM... it is still sitting on my SDCARD.
I just flashed it last night and it was a welcome change over Espresso... at least for me.
Launcher Pro does have a cool setup for the actual app drawer / call button, messaging, etc etc with some cool preferences you can mess with. It's definitely worth a try.
The Sense UI grew on me as well. I'm now using SlideM and just added a few things back to it like mytouch radio, IME, alarm clock and so forth.
This Rom is fast and I love launcher pro, it's just kick ass and looks great with LWP. I can live without the Sense UI now. This will hold me over untill CM throws something our way.
Props to everyone for all the work so far on the Slide!
I hate to say it but I don't think I can go back to stock without something similar to the MyModes option. I have gotten an amazing amount of use out of that program. Also, the Friendstream/Clock widgets are better than other widgets in the same category.
Plus, I don't want to feel like I simply have a faster G1 (even though I still want to KILL the MyFaves app)

This. I like MyModes a lot, and the Faves app is terrible. (Really? We can only import one contact at a time? How's that for efficiency?)
Has anyone ever seen the amount of logging data that gets spit out by Faves and other Sense apps? It's like they forgot to switch "static final boolean DEBUG" to "false" before release. :-(

For those that like and use TouchWiz

I thought I just throw it out here since there are so many people complain about how bad touchwiz is.
What do you like about TouchWiz interface on Galaxy S?
One thing I really like is how music players stack up onto the pull down taskbar as well as on the lock screen where you can stop, change track and play your musics without unlocking your phone.
I only like the lock screen missed call or missed sms notification.
Other than that it's crap.
I use adw for everything else.

Sliding across the notifications bar to adjust brightness.
The Touchwiz Corporate Email client is MUCH better than stock Android. Much.
The Notification panel is the best stock panel on Android, and nothing aftermarket even comes close.
The stock Clock application has a great "Smart Alarm".
Task Manager, which is just a long-press of the Home button away.
Built in "My Files" application, no need to download something like Astro.
Memo and Mini Diary are quite useful.
Very solid SNS integration into Contacts, complete with pictures.
A pretty damned good stock dialer.
A pretty good stock keyboard (and Swype too!)
The best stock Music Player IMHO. Equalizer presets!
The best stock Video Player, bar none. Divx, MKV, AVI, it plays them all.
AllShare actually works, and is actually useful and fun.
Ability to change system fonts on the fly, and to download or create your own.
Road SMS just for ****s and giggles.
Integrated Calendar (Exchange, Google, etc.)
Car Home and Desk Home launchers are nice.
How friendly TW3.0 is to 3rd party launchers.
I'm sure there's more, but the long and short of it is, TouchWiz 3.0 is pretty damned good. I don't use the TWLauncher either, but most of that is habit, having used ADW and LauncherPro for months.

I love TW3.0 I've tried all other launchers and they dont really compare to the functionality that TW3.0 offers altho most of the launchers are just home screen and application drawer replacements.
My only gripe is that samsung should have added a msg counter on the messaging icon like on the wave... everything else is great for me!
Nothing of these things have to do with touchwiz. Im on launcher pro and can do the same. The only thing missing are the samsung widgets.
Ps. On launcher pro you get msg and call counter in the dock icons
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
What i like in TW3.0 is that apps are divided to pages. I don't like scrolling, scrolling and scrolling to find my apps in other launchers. I know on which page i have app that i need right now so i jump quickly there and launch it.
I tried ADW Launcher and LauncherPro but don´t like them. They feel a lot more incomplete and slower compared to TW3. I can´t complain about the speed of TW3 and i really like the the Screenlock, and the notifications for missed calls and sms
Twlauncher isn't the only part of the phone that's changed by TouchWiz, as listed above.
I also use LauncherPro, mainly because I prefer its vertical sliding application list, but the notification icons and integration with media players is nice. I have no argument with the lock screen either - again, the music player integration is useful. The Task Manager in newer builds is also pretty decent and good to see in a stock ROM.
The TouchWiz customisations you can't remove/bypass are pretty good, and because you can change default handlers in Android, it's no big deal to use alternative launchers and applications. I was concerned about not having HTC Sense, but happy with this.
I currently switched from LauncherPro to TouchWiz recently, just because I like variation. I might use ADW instead next week. There's nothing bad about TouchWiz to make me not use it. Nice to see other people supporting the stock software.
TouchWiz 3.0 is Good!!
I am not sure why there is so much of TouchWiz hate. But once one would come out of the "only Sense/ADW is good", they would really see what all functionalities have been added to TouchWiz to make it look good and actually work well.
I really like it.
And I really wonder if Sense can do this much!!

Agreed!
I like certain aspect of TW, sort of like the horizontal scroll applications page but wish there was a way to reorder things alphabetically without clearing the data. Manually sorting applications according to type etc. is useful but then sort of duplicates what the home screens are for. Like the icon display on TW as well with their button backgrounds as opposed to plain icons in Launcher Pro.
I think touchwiz is pretty good, one cool feature is sliding your finger left or right on a contact either calls them or composes s message! Until someone ports Sense to the SGS ill stick to touchwiz

That is a feature of the contacts manager, not Touch Wiz. It works the same under a different launcher.

I agree with you, but what do you mean by this? How do you adjust the brightness from the notifications bar?
This is probably some new addition like the task manager, right? I'm still using the JF3-firmware...
Think the touchwiz is pretty well thought out. I actually like it better then Sense tbh even though I figured I would miss sense after switchin to the sgs.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I love touchwiz that when I slide, if I touched the app icons first for like 0.2 sec and slide, it will still give me a slide.
If I do it on ADW or LauncherPro, it will act like I'm holding that icon. Like I hold icons from drawer to place at home screen.
I don't know how to explain this, my english is not very good. Hope you understand.

[Q] [Req] Homescreen Switcher + several questions

Hey mates,
i have this friend (he's the typical iDork) who keeps annoying me with comments about how ugly he finds my homescreens...
i used to have only one scene (The Sense HD remix scene in minimal grey).
now i'd like to install launcher pro and make it look awesome, custom icons, everything designed as minimal as it gets.
only problem, every time i hit "home" my beloved desire asks me what homescreen it should return to. i know i can make it remember one of the two, but if i want to change then, i'd have to work through the settings and options...
so, here's my request:
a SIMPLE, SEXY WIDGET, that can instantly change the launcher assigned to the home button. i think it's not much work to do, if the API allows apps to change settings (not sure about that).
I'm a C++ programmer with zero experience in java, so i can't do it myself.
finally, i'd like to know how i can mod the launcher pro in the ways seen around on this forum (e.g. Mnml Icons as buttons etc.)
Thanks for your time,
Max
PS: does anyone know a widget for email/sms with a minimal style, such as Cal Widget with transparent background.
Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > LauncherPro > Clear Defaults.
Do you need a widget for that? ..
this isn't my point
i want to be able to switch between two launchers FAST, so i have, let's say a private and a business launcher, one designed for usability, and the other for style.
i don't want to reassign the home button everytime i want to switch, thats why i wnat a widget, or a shortcut, which i just touch once.
but since it seems like i'm the only person here switching frequently between launchers, i guess i'll have to code something myself.
anyway, thx for your time.
Oh.
Not a bad idea.
Good luck.

No,not home switcher. It was called easy switcher or something like that, can't say for sure. It supported widgets for quick switching also. I found several with similar function Launcher switcher/Home manager/, don't know if this one has widgets.

homeswitcher does indeed not support android 2.2.

Best way to emulate standard Android homepage?

While Sense brings alot of benefits, I've always found that the default homepage is very wasteful in terms of screen real estate. I want to replace it with something like the default Android homepage - a search bar, and a selection of as many widgets and shortcuts as can fit on the screen. What's the best way of achieving what I want?
I've seen references to MaxManila and Co0kie's Home Tab Editor - are these what I'm looking for?
You should check out other launchers like LauncherPro from the Market
But, really you can make any homepage look like stock with widgets

Whoa, you might be jumping around to different device forums a bit here. MaxManila and CHT are mods for the old Windows Mobile OS, which does not even run on the G2/Desire Z. Different devices, different OS.
On Android, the app that is tied to the home button, and constitutes your home page and apps drawer is known as the "launcher". The stock Sense launcher is really slow and a resource hog. I highly suggest trying an alternative launcher.
As mentioned above, Launcher Pro seems very popular by users here. That, and ADW Launcher seem the most popular alternative launchers. I personally like ADW Launcher, since it has the option to lock the home screen. GO Launcher also seems pretty cool, and there are others. The ones I mentioned are all free (but have paid versions with more features). So just find them on the Market and see which you like best. You can even switch back and forth easily by using the Home Switcher for Froyo app.
