pl. help me in detecting is my GENE is New Gene or OLD?
I have seen a lot of methods, but i feel non of them is a 100% success.
Pl. suggest me a working method, which u ppl came through.
And Suggest me the Best ROM for my Gene but stable and minimum bugs.
As i will be doing this for the first time pl. help me out in this.
U can see the details of my GENE in my Signature.

Well you might find this method risky, but here what I did / observed:
Follow krazy's thread word by word. If your Gene is bricked on the first HSPL patch, i.e. it won't continue to boot to Windows, your Gene is old. Simply continue with the rest of the steps. Otherwise stop right there! Your Gene is HSPL'd

Well there is always a certain amount of risk in hacking - or for that matter life . We have to live with it .

Well, I guess that is a question, that has no answers at all, since different people has different requirements and likings. Some may want his mobile come with all the latest eye candies while some may prefer no eye candy at all. So in this case all I can suggest you is download a few ROMs (remember - they are all free ) and try for yourself. You may read that ROM thread for a list of Bugs.

Iam pretty much dumbfounded with all the things here........
First of all,I am new in this matter,so please bare with me.
Seeing most of the threads here is giving me a headache to which one I am supposed to do first hand???
1)There is the hard spl thingy u shud do 1st before upgrading anything......
2)now lets say i did that already then whats next...........errr.........a wm6.1 by udk 8.0.......errr............bepe's wm6.1 premium 0.67..........errr...........radio rom 1.6xxxxx...............am actually very nauseate right now............to which one is the best or the latest things to upgrade the TC.............
3)isn't there a one universal rom or patch or whatever ya call it to just slap it on ur TC and "they live happily ever after" ending?????
please anyone can pinpoint the right procedure to do here????
please before I splurge all over..............lols
bottomline is I want the best and stable upgrade for the TC?

you need to have the rom that feels good for you from your post you got the idea hope this helped

As its already mentioned lot of times, every rom has its advantages and all roms are good. it depends on the user needs to choose a rom

If you want to flash a rom, read this guide. As for which rom is best for, everyone has different tastes, you have lite roms, and full roms (lots of apps included), then you have wm6.1 or wm6.5 as well as different versions of manila. Best advice would be scan first post of each thread and see which appeals to you then try a few out and make your own conclusion
Any future help on flashing should be posted in guide thread
Plenty of people have asked same question and get same result. Research, read & trial.

Hi there,
According to the diagnosis list of error codes (found here), Error 244 means the following:
You have used the wrong RUU to do the upgrade. RUU will check if the Model ID and Language ID are compatible with the device. Make sure you use the appropriate RUU tool to upgrade. This can also be caused by a mismatch between the CID of the rom you trying to flash and your device.
Please follow this guide and read it carefully before attempting again.

Read , re-read and read again all info in the stickies and wiki. It tells you everything you need to know. There are no short cuts to getting it right.
As for which rom to flash, try them all and make up your own mind which is "best",

That's no problem matey, its a pleasure to help.
As mentioned by Stuntdouble, carefully read through the guide (link for it posted above). All the information you need to unlock your phone using the Hard-SPL or USPL method is explained in great detail.
If you have real trouble following the guide posted above, then see this guide as it tells you how to unlock and flash a custom ROM onto your phone, step-by-step.
To give you a better idea on what ROM to choose I think it's always a good idea to first find out what one looks for in a ROM (i.e. speed, performance, reliability, etc). Click this link for more information one the latest builds, it will help to make your decision easier friend.

im planning to buy a tatoo soon i do know that maybe i should wait for the wildfire but then i want to try android and tatoo is within my budget
my question what is rooting is it the same as HSPL done on a Win mo ie u do this to flash any rom u want on a win mo and i see things like a gold card
u see i positively want to flash other cooked Android roms on the tatoo
so kindly advise

firstly to understand root you need a little linux understanding, a simple definitive answer is here...

now back to the tattoo, you will see in the first few threads that guides and how-to's are available to help you root your phone, its easier now than ever,
theres a simple click and wait method, (it works well but you wont really understand whats going on using that method )
the SPL is not the same as root, hard spl allows cooked roms to be flashed and on some devices it re-maps the device memory to give more space ( see G1 danger spl for details )
follow any instruction very carefully if your used to windows mobile - its all a bit different with android, there is so much scope though and lots to learn which is the best bit i feel..
