hi all
am a new Android owner with a HTC Legend.
one thing thats confusing me is that..yes the system reports the firmware as 2.1
however, of all the Android 2.1 clips I've seen...mostly of the Nexus1, there are 5 home screen pages, saw a diagonal ribbon type thing on a Doid stock 2.1 video, a button to open the apps page instead of the drawer, with the apps page being a 3d wheel kinda thing....and so on.
Now, with the Legend, once HTC Sense is disabled, i get Andoid's original (i think) Home screen. this shows up as 'Home version 7' under Manage applications.
And it's NOTHING like what i've seen of 2.1. it looks basic, not so different from one of the earliest versions that ran on an emulator on windows.
the only thing i can make of this...is that f/w 2.1 and Home version 7 are different things. much like HTC Sense is different from f/w 2.1..in that they're both just skins and can be different versions independent of the f/w as long as its supported to run.
can someone clarify?
thank you.
doesnt anyone know?
I can't seem to find the answer to this anywhere...
HTC Legend doesn't have live wallpapers.
ahh so all that I described is part of the live wallpaper?
thanks for clearing that up

Hi,
New guy here so go easy.
I am running an HTC tattoo and am not a big fan of the Sense gui so I have reverted back to the android. However I would like use of some of the HTC widgets. Is there anyway to use these with just the standard GUI?

I tried doing this some weeks ago, and it won't work. The HTC Widgets won't be available on the Android Home. Unless other know of a way to get it to work...
The lock screen is the same of Hero???
Is there a way to change it? anyone??
Thanks
I am not here to help, because I myself have never used Android before and know only very basic (aka noob) things regarding the OS (will be joining with the Desire).
I just wanted to say: I think it is the same as found on the HTC Hero, because this is the HTC SENSE lockscreen. Both phone's feature HTC Sense, so...
On the desire you can disable HTC Sense and get the stock 2.1 experience (including the stock 2.1 lockscreen I assume). Maybe you can try that to get another lockscreen, but then again you will have to give up on HTC Sense.

It makes Sense. Thanks for the tip
I should have tried it before I talked.
No, turning off Htc Sense does not give me the Eclair lock screen, it gives me the same Htc Sense lock screen.
I thought this smartphone was be able to add voice dial commands, but so far I couldn't find a way to. Is it because of Htc Sense?
Regards
Ok so this is my first time using android os and i have to say its awesome. I about had it with windows. My only problem is the Droid x seems more like a pda then a phone. With my HTC Touch Pro 2 i could just start dialing the number on the keypad and it would narrow down my search instantly. With the Droid im stuck to using favorites or scrolling through the list.
Is this a motoblur thing and im just used to the awesomeness of HTC?
Try dialer one from the market.

I think this is actually the Android standard (unfortunately). The EVO has this type of dial-to-narrow-down-names functionality, but I think that's something HTC added for Sense.
The HTC Android phones with Sense also have this feature. Motorola does not.
You really start to miss sense and HTC when you see all the little things that you don't have on the droid.

This is one of the big reasons I stayed with WinMo for so long. This was default behavior for WinMo since Smartphone 2002 (my first).
I actually left WinMo when the 1st Droid came out, but took it back within my 30 days to get a TouchPro2. Despite a number of replacement dialers in the marketplace, I just couldn't replicate it effectively. I also had issues with Android 2.0 and Exchange, so it just wasn't a clean fit.
I've now dropped my TP2 for the Droid X and still kind of miss this functionality. Not enough to give up the phone this time, but I might investigate some dialers again.

They each have improvements they've added. Unfortunately can only get one or the other.
For instance, the DX has the iphone-style text selection (standard Android and HTC text manipulation sucks).
The DX's dialer has done minor pluses, like easier/quicker access to the contacts list. But the HTC dialer is nicer. Not sure I'd say that about Sense overall.

Its true it depends on what you are used to, but one things for sure if you are used to Sense or came from HTC winmo phone you won't like the Droid as much because of the missing functionality.
Dear All,
kindly help me on my concern. I friend of mine just offered me a G2 but i dont like the homescreen of all. Would there be no way to get HTC sense on a later stage or will this option not be allowed on the device. Is there another option to enhance the home screen (i like black but looking for something fancy like the upcaoming SBP mobile shell 5.0...). Another issue understand that there is no radio too, so could i download a radio cab or will this not work or and at least could i download an HTC Desire z rom at a later stage....
How is the keyboard, can i write mail quickly...
thanks a lot...
In another thread some people claim that the Desire ROM would be compatible with the G2, thus opening an easy avenue to get Sense on a G2. However, that requires permanent root to be available, which we don't have today.
What you can do today is getting something like Launcher Pro, which allows for a lot of customizations of the home screen.
Typing is fine on the Keyboard, but I'm still using Swype for anything shorter than a multi-paragraph email...
There is an app in the market called TuneIn Radio that streams radio stations over the internet. It has the ability to display all local radio stations too.
