It only applies to Sense 2.5. Which ROM are you using, and which Sense version?

Its "home" is a thread about it here on XDA, in the HD2 forum:
Co0kie's Home Tab.
I've been using previous versions for a couple of months and luv it...this latest one is a huge feature-upgrade -- really great. I won't run my phone without it now.
But, yes, you have to be running Sense 2.5. I've experienced no downside, only benefit, using this.

I've been tempted to flash my ROM, but it really doesn't make any difference. I like SPB Mobile Shell so much that I just don't think I'd like any Sense version. But the main reason I WOULD consider flashing is to get that Cookie version with 2.5. It is as close as it comes to Mobile Shell.
The other reason I don't flash is that everything on my phone is working, and I think that a stock ROM is more likely to be stable than a cooked ROM. If I have any problems I may well change my mind.

Find yourself a appropriate official stock rom for upgrade to Sense 2.5, rom 2.xxxxx (for your region), download, install, hard reset, install Cookie`s and you`re gonna rock! If you gonna flash custom rom, don`t forget HardSpl!

I have found that most of the cooked ROMs with Sense 2.5 are actually more stable than stock ROMs. Doring a brief lapse in judgement I decided to flash the updated stock T-Mobile ROM and the speed and unstability almost made me want to smash my phone with a tack hammer. Then I remembered there was a saving grace- the awesome cooked ROMs here. The best advice is to try one...if you end up not liking it you can always go back to stock.

I too flashed the (US) Tmobile ROM updated of Jan 2010. At first it was too slow, but after a lot of tweaking it is now fast and very stable. Actually I have had the same experience with all the HTC devices I've owned. I had a Magician that I flashed, a P3470 stock HTC, and now my TP 2 T-Mobile. In each case I had to massage the unit until it was just right, and in each case it was faster and more stable after about 3-4 weeks. I think that part of it was my tweaks, and part was my learning how the ROM operates.
I would recommend that anyone flashing a ROM consider keeping it for at least a couple of weeks before giving up on it.

You need to go to the settings for the today screen and turn off all the plug-ins. One of them will be named sense. There is no point in having both Sense and mobile shell.
When running sense, you can tell the version by the home screen. If there are shortcuts under the weather icon, then you have 2.5; otherwise it is 2.1.
If you really want your TP2 to rock, I recommend Vostradamus add ons:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=574264
and there is a really cool Mobile Shell theme that looks and functions like the upcoming Windows 7 for Mobile:

New to Tilt 2 - Want Co0kie's Home Tab
Hi guys,
I'm new to the Tilt 2, but not new to the forum. Recently, I had changed to the HTC PURE (courtesy of AT&T's free upgrade), but I couldn't get the Bluetooth to initiate calls from my car. After 2 weeks of struggling with stock and cooked ROMs, different radios and a plethora of other flashes, I finally went to my final option. (Hyundai told me that the Tilt phone was compatible with their Bluetooth.) I took a chance and after much pleading and negotiating, I was able to get a Tilt 2 for no charge in exchange for my new PURE. Right out of the box, it works perfectly with my Hyundai Genesis Coupe. But now, my next dilemna is what to do about the apps and functions on the phone. I have been a loyal follower of TAEL and NRG's ROMs. NRG recently built-in the Co0kie's Home Tab into his latest ROMs. I'm worried that if I flash a new cooked ROM, then the Bluetooth may no longer work. However, if I can at least get the Co0kie's Home Tab, I might be able to live with it all. However, I have noticed that the Co0kie's Home Tab works with Sense 2.5. I don't think that my out of the box Tilt 2 has that. Can anyone assist me in determining what I do and don't have access to? Also, if anyone else has had the Hyundai problem, I would be grateful to hear how they dealt with it.
Maraming salamat,
Miguel

I want to flash my Elfin with any WM 6.5 ROM. But the problem is, there are a *lot* of them in the wild, and I'm confused.
In http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=541886, you can see a bar at the bottom which is absent in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426540. Also, in the first one, the start menu is shifted to the bottom.
I'm looking for a simple WM 6.5 ROM with the *least* modifications done to it.
Any recommendations?
Also, is WM6.5 good to use *without* M2D?
First, windows mobile 6.5 is now a very 'loose' build, which means Microsoft just works on the builds and release them as and when they like it and along the way, they work on new BETA features. Or features which do not work well.
Some of the builds have start buttons at the bottom because Microsoft changed some of the features of it (Again, its Microsoft issue).
Do be reminded that Windows Mobile Official 6.5 is not out yet.
Hmmm, thanks for the reply. I have another question.
When I hard reset my phone, M2D, and other M2D components like Audio Manager, HTC Album, Phone Canvas etc. is retained.
When I dump my rom following this guide http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Elf_HowtoDumpRom, will all that stuff be there in the backup? I.e., if I want to flash this backup, will the M2D etc be flashed with it?
If not, is there a way to backup the whole thing? I'm not talking about the apps I install. I'm talking about M2D etc. which are in my ROM since I bought it. Since they are retained even after a hard reset, I guess there must be a way to back them up along with the ROM.

Okay guys, I need some replies fast .
Question:
If I dump my ROM using this method (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Elf_HowtoDumpRom), then *will* the M2D, Audio Manager etc be backed up with it? I think they should, because they were 'cooked' into the ROM, i.e. if I hard reset, they are retained.
...No one?
Well, rom dumping is quite hard.
What? This (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Elf_HowtoDumpRom) process was pretty simple. But do you know the answer to my question?

What??
Come on guys... the title of this thread states theme [THE]... this is not a theme at all, it's a request [REQ]
PS. While I'm here, I'll add my bit... I WANT IT ALL!!
I will add my voice to this request. While I appreciate the work that the various cooks on this site do (I'm currently using Yozgatg's Gen.Y D2 R4) I would like to have a stock ROM (either 2.03.401.3 or 2.03.405.3) with TF3D 2.1.
I am aware that Yozgatg also has an installation procedure to install TF3D 2.1, but the only problem I've found with it (at least when I do it) is that it takes a phenomenal amount of device RAM! You need to have 20Mb free just to install it, and when I have tried I have been left with about 6Mb free at the end of the procedure. I don't know if this is down to remnants of the original TF3D still being left on the device or what. Compare this to Yozgatg's Gen.Y D2 R4 cooked ROM which, after installing the other odds and sods that I use, still leaves me with about 42Mb free.
Great though the cooked ROMS are, the authors add or take away various components (which is their right, as they are cooking the ROMS to their own needs and then sharing them with the rest of us) e.g. I have flashed a 6.5 ROM before where all the games were missing.
I would really like a stock ROM with an updated TF3D.

I am trying A.Z.T.O.R. ROM final WM6.1 with GEN Y manila 2.1 R1.5..i can tell that i have never seen my Diamond sooo fast and stable (until now) i used mtty to flash i added BWtaskbar that makes also the X button bigger in some apps that helps a lot.The true thing is that i miss WM6.5.1. (Bsb rom i used),but the functionality of the tf3d 2.1 R1.5 is much better for everyday use than Titanium. That's my opinion!
What you're all asking for will never happen.
TF3D 2.5 will never be ported to VGA by HTC so you'll never see a stock ROM with it.
You might be able to install it via cab once XOR have finished porting it but chances are you'll at least need WM6.5 or build 21000 and above. I'd put my money on it that you guys running ROM version 2.03 are not running a build number high enough.
Do some searching before posting too. All these questions have been answered in the TF3D 2.5 VGA thread.
Manila 2.5 will never be availabe as a cab because , there are files which will not fit into 256mb rom (Diamond) , because manila 2.5 would not replace 2.1 , the files are entirely different so additional files need to be added.
I'm using - SUN Y 6.1 - Manila 2.5 Beta 3 by Kisja. Works almost PREFECT. fast and Stable.
Will be more stable with newer release.

Well, I searched the forum and checked my phone, so pardon me if this has been discussed before.
I'm using the T-Mobile WM 6.5 Stock ROM, version 1.91.531.3 (74508) WWE. Does anyone know how to determine which version of Sense is installed? I'm thinking it may be 2.1 rather than 2.5.
I"m asking because I'm considering installing some of the themes, and I want to download the correct ones.
**UPDATE**
I have found references that say it is 2.1, but I'd still like to know how to find out. The Settings menu "About" only brings up an HTML file in IE, and does not mention any sense version information.

Have you looked at Settings>System>Device Information>Software Information? I'm on a custom rom, so I don't know how it looks on Stock, but it may list Manila version there.
But it is 2.1 -- for sure (on T-Mo USA).
I don't believe that the stock Tmo 6.5 ROM has anywhere that it flat out states "sense 2.x" (or if it does I can't find it anywhere).
However, in system settings you can just choose "about", and there it says that the build is 21881, which is a Sense 2.1 build.
EDIT: and since you're looking at installing some themes, etc, it actually helps to know which exact build you have, since even on 2.1 some of the themes and other visual elements actually work on some 2.1 builds but not others (I've run into this a few times since upgrading to 6.5 this past weekend). It's usually listed in the threads which builds are ok or aren't.

Thanks for the information, it is 21881. I just noticed in the ROM thread that the ROM shipped in August of 2009 had a later version of WM than my "upgrade" OS dated 19 Dec 09. That is very strange. Also, that August version had a different type of Sense; evidently the settings tab actually showed the Sense version.

If it's the T-mobile ROM you're talking about, the one "shipped" back in Aug was the originial WM 6.1 ROM that came on all T-mobile TP2's, before the 6.5 upgrade showed up. That 6.1 ROM didn't have sense on it at all actually, it had what was known as "TF3D 2.1"...which does cause a lot of confusion with sense 2.1. The version numbers assigned to the builds don't always increase over time the way you might suspect, so it could look like that previous version is a "later" build if you just look at the build numbers.
Oh, and yes, in that 6.1 ROM (which I was running up until this past weekend), the TF3D version was listed right on the "settings" tab....no idea why it's not there anymore.
Been trying to figure out my Sense version as I have had problems with HDWall and Facebook tab and others.
This thread has some of the information I need and now tells me that I do not have Sense 2.1.
I have a Touch Pro 2 running: TF3D: CE OS 5.2.21854 (21854.5.0.80).
If sense 2.1 = 21881 what is 21854?
And how can I upgrade it? is it possible to upgrade without using a ROM?
Cheers for your help

No, the "21854" is the Windows build number, that is separate from sense. However I discovered that the easiest way to tell 2.1 from w.5 is that 2.5 has shortcuts on the home tab; boxes with a "+" mark, that you can assign to shortcuts.
If you are running US Tmobile, there is an upgrade to WM 6.5 and Sense 2.1. I'm not sure about other carriers. Or you can flash a ROM...

According to the list of stock roms in the wiki, 21854 is a WM 6.5 build that was distributed by most every carrier in europe, so I would also presume that it already has sense 2.1. Is there Weather in your home clock? The last manila version prior to sense 2.1 was tf3d 2.1, which I don't think you have, and it's easy to spot due to it's lack of weather on the home tab.

I do not have weather on the Home Tab. it has a Tab on TF3D but the Home Tab just has the flip clock call history/calendar list.
So it sounds like I have a lower version of Sense? and the only way to change that is ROM upgrade right?

yes, that's TouchFlo3D 2.1, the last thing that Manila was before it became sense, and there's nowhere near the options for it that exist with Sense 2.1 etc.
Generally the only way to upgrade your sense version is to flash a rom that has it on there. There is some experimentation going on with a cab version of Sense 2.5, you can read about it starting with post #9 in THIS thread...but they're trying to upgrade from Sense 2.1 to 2.5, I have no idea if it'll work at all going from TF3D to Sense 2.5.

The short answer is "no".
There is no stock ROM for the HD2 that runs WM6.5.X. If you want to have this OS on your phone you will have no choice to run one of the many custom ROMS or build your own. At least for now..
Hmm, thanks for the fast answer
I hope the stock version will be available soon, or will it?
Rather sad that we haven't got one yet.
It has been out since Oct 09.
I looked through 3-4 pages here, but most of the cookers have changed most of the icons added and removed stuff. I don't link this kind of things, so I'm staying with 6.5 :/
I hope 6.5.x STOCK come out for Leo soon!

Hello dude!
You like the "stock ROM philosopy" right?!
So take a look on Artemis Project, from sir Sternas: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=612580
In my opinion is the most close to Stock ROMS for now and ever!
The roms uses the newest packages from HTC and latest WindowsMobile builds.
And the best of all, is fast and stable!
Sir Sternas does not change icons or includes modifications on his work, he let the user chose it!
Cheers!

And the best of all, is fast and stable!
Sir Sternas does not change icons or includes modifications on his work, he let the user chose it!
Cheers!

The softkey bar in Artemis is ugly though.
go for this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=699724
if you want a truly complete stock look
Digao is correct, Artemis is the more close to stock.
Also the softkey bar is the STOCK 6.5.X.
If you want nicer buttons or icons, you can always add them.
They are simple cabs (btw Artemis includes many themes to choose for the buttons).
John, NRG makes great ROMs but faaaaaaaaaaaaaar from stock philosophy.
It is not what Tunay asked.

NRGZ has started reference ROms which are close to stock roms.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=699724
if you are looking stock look i have to say there are a few to consider.
one of the closer ones is Dutty's, Miri also had a stock look last time i looked.
i ended up making my own though as they wern't quite what i wanted
there are plenty of tutorials and pre stocked kitchen options if you want to try and there are plenty of people who would help if you get stuck
regards
Chris

Hmm, thanks for the fast answer
I hope the stock version will be available soon, or will it?

Why don't you want to run one of the cooked roms? There are so many available I can't see at least one catering for your taste.
You will never see 6.5.x on the Leo in an official capacity.
With respect to all ROM chefs, I don't use Sense and therefore there is no need to have it even loaded. Pure WM and nothing extra.
Someone mentioned that there is the 6.5 stock, I couldn't find it, anyone with any reference to it?
Thank you

That makes no sense (excuse the pun) as there are numerous cooked roms without Sense included to free up extra memory. There are no stock Leo roms that can say the same to my knowledge - they all include it.
Mod. edit: not dev related, moved to general
heya guys.
i just bought myself a new Mega last week, and i kinda wondering can you guys recommend which ROM should i pick to flash it? i browsed the ROM section but i don't know which one i should pick. and some of the roms are filled with programs that i don't even know of. which is why i ask for your recommendations.
thanks in advance.
Hello, think that you have to ask yourself why you want to change the stock ROM? Not happy with it? What do you want to see improved? Do you want a lite version or full version?
Ideally you try a few of them and see which one you like best. But first of all would read the posts with the various Rom's so you have an idea what they offer.
Personally can recommend the Rom of Billabongstaff which I use myself. Also read the "new to Rom's" thread.
Succes.
heya again.
i've explored every thread about roms on HTC Mega but i can't seem to find any suitable roms that i really want to use. there's a few nice ones but i don't even know some of the programs installed in that roms. so i need someone to answers me these questions so that i could decide which roms that i should flash.
1. My HTC mega version is
ROM: 1.28.707.3 (66092)
Radio Version : 3.49.25.05
WinMo : 6.5 Pro (build 21854.5.0.80)
Is this an old rom version? Should i upgrade it or stick with it?
2. If i should upgrade it, can i flash 6.5.5 rom onto my phone? what's the difference with original 6.5?
3. If i should stick with it, can anyone suggest what good programs that i may install to this phone? so far i only find SPB Shell and Facebook that's good enough for me.
thanks in advance.

Amienzero, would be nice if that is available but do not expect a resume of all Rom's for Mega....
1 If you can not decide on a Rom because you do not know the programs used than the search function can help you so it becomes quickly clear what they are about.
2 The Rom you have is pretty new for 6.5. You can upgrade to built 21912 (or 21909 in custom Rom) but do not expect a lot of difference.
3 WM 6.5.5 is more finger friendly than 6.5 but it is also a matter of taste.
4 To decide which program you need or like simply read about the application section in Mega or general Windows Mobile but foremost try them yourself. If you read the posts you notice a few popular ones mentioned.
Succes.
thanks Frank C for answering my questions.
okay, i've looked up about WinMo 6.5.5 and i'm interested with it. say if i use HSPL, then flash the 6.5.5 rom. then if i'm not satisfied with it i can just perform a hard reset, right? then i'll be back to the original 6.5?
No if you do hard reset, the rom won't change.
You have to install original rom again.
Find attached comparison between WM 6.5-6.5.3-7......
And the article:

thanks everyone for replying.
but now i have a new problem. i haven't flash any roms yet but now the today screen shows clock instead of battery. how can i fix that? before it shows the battery indicator but recently i did a hard reset (i messed up the touchflo2d ) and now instead of battery, it shows the time. now i got 2 clock on my today screen. please help.
Try:
Start/Settings/Clock & Alarms and uncheck the box saying 'display clock on title bar in all programs'
This should sort it
sweet! that fixes it. thanks! i wonder how that got ticked.
time to get back hunting clean 6.5.5 rom or wait for that android.
okay, one last question.
my mega uses qwerty input to enter text. is there a way or a program that can change the input to numpad text input? when i pressed the keyboard button in the middle, it only gave me the qwerty and input method (Pin Yin) option.
