Sorry for Cryin out loud but need your help guys - HD2 General

Hello Guys,
I am from india and I got the HD2 few months back, well to sum up the experience, I have had with the device would be “love and hate” kind of. There are times when I am simple awe stuck by the awesomeness of the device and yet there are times when she acts like a complete ***** freezes for no particular reason. It got so frustrating at times that I even contemplated on selling it off but some thing always stopped me .I would like to thank all the wonderful developers out here who have come up with such amazing apps that at least has made my device usable to a great extend. I THANK YOU ALL from the bottom of my heart.
I am on my official ROM with which the device came shipped with and the version being 1.43 and it’s quite ironical that we haven’t had a single ROM update ever since it has been launched in our country. Any way to cut the whole story short I would humbly request you guys to please look in to my queries:-
1)I am a newbie in to windows OS, so the utter thought of flashing the device kind of scares me off cause I have heard that if not done properly it can brick the device ,But lately I am willing to take that risk only if the cooked rom can solve these 2 grave issues of mine.
a) the screen acts like a lunatic on the run .ghost presses ,hyper sensitivity etc the screen sensitivity tweak did help me a lot but still I am not 100% confident while typing ,So my question is does any of the cooked ROM takes care of this ? and if yes kindly let me the name of it.(this is one issue which I really cant get over)
b) The phone freezes for no particular reason at all , It just stops responding of its own .does the cooked ROM would take care of this as well?
2)Do the official ROM’s address the issues that I have mentioned above from what I know that HK got a new ROM update with the version being 1.72 (Sorry if I am wrong),So in 200 million years I would get to get the official ROM in my country as well and If I am not a prehistoric fossil by then I would rather wait for the it to come as its rather a safe bet for a newbie like me .So any ideas guys as to if the HTC official ROMS take care of these issues .
3)The erratic nature of the screen is it a generic problem ? I can not replace my device in the pretext of this behavior if this is a problem specific to my device, because we have no replacement policies out here. So can a ROM update (cooked or Official ) get rid of this completely .
So guys please do let me know the name of the roms both cooked and official which can help me get rid of these issues.
Cheers .

Flashing the phone is extremely straightforward and easy to do.
If you can follow instructions, you can do it.
I've HSPL'd 3 devices and haven't bricked any of them.
Once you've HSPL'd it's highly unlikely that anything else (within reason) you do will brick the device.
You may render your device temporarily unuseable, but the fact that HSPL allows you to flash without a USB connection off the microSD (!) means that it's nearly impossible to brick a successfully HSPL'd phone.

my suggestion is to dare for a custom rom. study very carefully the tutorials in the rom development forum and you'll be fine, it's not rocket science.
however, to avoid any issues, please remember to always clean your device between two custom flashes by any of the 3 methods:
- flash stock rom + hard reset
- mtty
- task 29
i've always used the 1st method without any issues. it's more time consuming then the others but i've got used to it.
about which rom, this is a matter of preference, there is no best rom for everybody.
you can see which is my favorite under my signature. it's very fast and stable and very close to stock.
i will end by saying that i had many issues in the first couple of month after buying this phone but now it works like a charm, i love it!
oh, and i'm never gonna go back to stock... ever.
cheers and good luck,

Mate did you have problems with the screen as well? If yes then did the ROM that you are suggesting took care of them all?
Cheers.

i'm not sure if this is what you mean but i remember it acting strange at some point, after continuous use for 2-3 weeks with the original stock onboard and especially in opera. for example, streams of small vibrations but no movement while trying to scroll or zoom pages.
i've never experienced anything like that since but i have to admit that i flash a new rom every second week or so. i always want to try the latest release, it's very addictive .

hey chakraa...
I have had similar probs...and did HSPL on my HD2 and have been satisfied, and have tried 30 different roms so far.... if you are looking for suggestions i would say "ROMeOS" makes some good roms... his latest 4.07 is good....suggest you try it.... after you do the HSPL your HD2.

Hey Bro ,Thanks a lot , I am finally mustering courage to go for THE big step(lol I am sounding as if I am about to get married or something), I would surely look in to the ROM which you have suggested,Would let you know about the outcome.

Finally did it.
Hey Guys,
Thanks a lot for your help I finally did flash the ROM all seems to be working fine now.
@CHALLU thanks buddy in the end I installed the rom suggested by you, seems quite stable as of now.Never been a big fan of SENSE so got SPB back ,the key board works like charm and some how I am getting this uncanny feeling that the battery life has improved as well.Do suggest me some other ROMS as well which would improve battery life ,take care of the screen sensitivity and enhance the over all stability.

X1 owner for 2 weeks

Ok so i've had the X1 for two weeks now and its a really good phone but there are somethings that are narking me off:
1. When am sending texts its freezes for a few seconds then its ok, this really is getting to me
2. How hard is it to take a photo?? when you get it up and running it takes ages to take the photo
3. Everything people keep saying to put on the phone always seems to be very buggy, and i've looked at the lists people say etc and just cant get happy with the stuff they say
Overall its ok, but losing confidence in it can anyone perk me up with some good honest tips, software etc???
Stu
No I cant perk you up, and would say the same.. the phone gives the impression that it was never quite completed... everything is there and it should be really good but its not quite right.
Having used WM phones for many years now (and always swearing never ever to buy one again) I kind of knew this before getting it. However I live in hope that one day WM phones will work properly, that everything will be nicely integrated etc. or is that just called an iPhone....
With the last HTC I had, I forget the model, I was only happy in the end when I made my own ROM with what I wanted in it. I guess its going to be the same with the X1, its just I am not sure I want to invest that much of my life to make a phone work anymore.
Or flash hardSPL and download and install one of the custom ROMs currently available in the ROMs section. I recommend Touch-IT.
well i did the rom 10?? is that right, seemed quicker but like its been said just feels like something is missing.
the keyboard is pee'ing me off too (onscreen one) as with this freezing sceanrio i keep misstyping things
After I installed the latest rom (R2xxxxxx), my Xperia is much snappier and doesn't freeze as much. I had TONS of problems with the Touch Flo 3D, so that may be something not to re-install after you carefully flash your rom. Congratulations on the new phone! And, sorry too hehe...
How did you install the new rom? Do they finally have it officially on the SE Updater? I tried downloading from the links in the topic but Rapidshare...just can't work for me.
Ya, you have to get it from the rapidshare link. I checked the mirrors and i don't see any links working. Steps: Get file. Run exe on your pc with Activesync running. Follow instructions. You'll see a progress bar on both pc and X1 when working right. The forum RECOMMENDS you use Hard-SPL so you don't brick your phone, but i didn't. TIP: Match the file type with yours. Mine was GENERIC_NAM and had a Customization ID of (CDF) 1219-1224. Match those two and you should be good. Of course i take no responsibility yada yada, just telling you what i did with mine. Good luck

Latest Official HTC ROM trashed my device!!!

Hello
Just installed the latest official HTC ROM - RUU_BlackStone_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.1_Radio_52.62.25.34_1.13.25.24_Ship - from the HTC website on my device. Upgrade went smooth as so many upgrades (with other phones) before. When it boots 'smart mobility' is shown in it's normal colour for around two seconds during which the font gets some sort of dropshadow effect (much like looking through unclean glasses) and then turns cyan. WM start screen is displayed as I describe as watercolour. Switching off screen and back on gets the normal graphic to live but still with a reoccuring 'smear effect' much like at the start. Device is very sluggish and freezes. Wifi and BT are on by default, no Phone and data reception. When connected to PC it shows ActiveSunc connected icon but 'PC says no' - Little Britain Syndrme. What do you think I should do? I can't revert back to the original ROM as I can't find it anywhere.. can't reinstall the current one as of version message.. in fact can't install any other ROM as I can't get ActiveSync going. Argh! Help! As highly as I think of HTC, this is really screwed up!!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts
Martin
I'm not an expert , but def sounds like a wrong hardspl to me. I've had this happen to me twice because of my inexperience the first time and my carelessness the second. Can you redo the hspl somehow and try another maybe xda cooked rom? Or have you already tried to go back to the rom you flashed from? Thats what saved me before. Go to duttys site. He has a bunch of htc roms for D/L. Maybe you can find your old one there.

Thanks for for your thought cbreze. I'm annoyed as everything went by the book and the upgrade went fine until reboot. All I can do is to hard reset the phone at the moment. Can't get an ActiveSync connection going. Any way I can still flash to another ROM without it? Been to dutty's before and there's the same official version that causes me the problem and the Orange UK ROM.. not quite what I had in mind on o2. Can't find the 1.14 ROM which shiped with the device. Any idea where I can get hold of it? Also, I think I have seen a utility somewhere that helps to recover from a bad flash and in the absence of ActiveSync connection. Or was this just a pleasant dream?
Just have seen cRaCKwHoRe post at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505377 which exactly describes my issue. Will follow that trough but please let me know if you have any additional thoughts. I'm really p***** off with HTC. They could post cRaCKwHoRe's info this on their site. First time I ever got an official ROM and the last as I'm a burnt child. Usually get them from here and it's always first class stuff. Thank you people.
cRaCKwHoRe's instructions did the trick. Panic over. Thank you to everyone whom had a look at the issue and great thanks and deep bow to life saving cRaCKwHoRe. Donation is on the way as soon as I get paid.

New to this...any help appreciated

Alright...so here goes. I have been out of the smartphone market for some time now and am getting this awesome phone tomorrow. I am friggin excited! Feels like Christmas in the summer! Verizon tells me that it will already come with the 6.1 update installed. Anyone gotten one recently to verify this, and how do I tell when I get it...also how can I tell the radio that it has? I also already wanna mod this machine, and although I am selfproclaimed computer savvy, I am a little nervous about bricking the phone. I think I def want either an iCRAP setup to piss off everyone at work, or nfsfans 6.5....although I would like to have someone walk me through it. I have to say, everyone on this forum has done an excellent job with their machines and I am impressed. Also, I don't know that this will even be an issue, but it will still need to function as a phone and pda...as I have read in a few different places that some cant use their phone function anymore, etc. And I definitely wanna get the GPS running ASAP, due to travel on the job. Any help will be greatly appreciated, and I will def help out anyone on here if I can. I also am not sure about when and when not to let customizations run...any help with that would be awesome too
i am also getting this phone from vzw thursday, they told me it comes standard with wm6.0 idk or care. as soon as i get it im gonna flash a custom rom.
Hey there, I'm a fellow Verizon user. It was kind of nerve-wracking flashing the ROM for the first time, but its really NBD once you get into it (be sure and try android too!).
Do your reading first, there are tutorials all over the place. Something to remember about customizations - Don't let them run on any official Verizon updates you see floating around the internet, as they will cripple your GPS. Don't let them run on any ROM designed for another carrier. If you're flashing a generic or Verizon-specific CUSTOM ROM, let them run.
And you can check in settings to see your radio and OS version and all that (under "about" I think, correct me if I'm wrong)
Have fun!
so if i run mr1 from verizon to get to wm6.1, then I SHOULD NOT not run customizations. What buttons do I press to do a hard reset before that comes up? But, if I were to do NFSFAN's 6.5 rom, then I SHOULD let customizations run. Also, could someone point me to a set of CLEAR directions on doing the flashes? I have read a bunch of them, and it seems they are all missing little parts.....probably something so familiar to the editor, they just forget to include in the steps.
Yes, the lack of CLEAR instructions as a stickey is a real problem on a lot of boards. I've read threads over 300 posts in order to get solid info. I don't mind searching for info, but jeesh, guys it is unbearable. Granted some of this stuff is not for the faint of heart, but there can be so much info, and sometimes it is often confusing and contradictory. The SR. members and the Admins need to get their heads together and take a month to provide the community some solid resources, and weed out some of the erroneous info here. We want to make having this phone FUN and Practical. A Case in point is trying to get GPS working. Have you guys looked at all the info on here about this. Granted there is variety of carriers, but it shouldn't be brain surgery.
Also chevyspd, you want to do a SOFT reset before the customizations. Use your stylus to depress the small hole in the bottom of the phone before they run. Should be golden. A HARD reset will restart the flashing process from scratch.
10-4....so only do a soft reset by only pressing the button in the hole on the bottom before customizations runs. That is very contradictory from about 50 other posts I've read so far. A whole bunch of them say to do a HARD reset, but I will remember not to. But, when I do a custom rom like NFSFANS, I don't have to do a reset at all....correct?
You wouldn't believe how many times I got flamed for that same kinda comment on other forums.....interestingly though....Also...if I flash to NFSFANs 6.5, are the cubes still active, or is that something from HTC that gets written over with a new rom?
So, my new phone already has 6.1 right outta the box. Interestingly enough, it went to the customizations screen as soon as I powered the phone up, so I immediately hit the soft reset. How can I tell if what I did worked, and if it didn't, how can I fix it so I can use 3rd party gps programs?
Wow; a lot of questions. I'm not sure about NFSFAN's rom. To see if the gps works, make sure you have the Settings>phone>services>location is set to on. Then make sure the external gps setting is set to Comm4, then hardware NONE, baud 4800, and allow Windows to manage gps. Do a Google search for HTC QuickGPS if it's not already on your phone (varies from carrier to carrier) and Install it; Run it, outside and allow it 10 minutes to get a lock. If gps is working, then you should be golden. You will probably need to turn the radio on after every re-boot; and be aware that leaving the radio going WILL drain you battery faster than usual. All this assumes you are using the stock rom, and not one of the custom ones; each to those varies, some work out of the box so to speak, some of them require tweaking.
Funny i just got the phone yesterday to, but i actually already had it for about a year lol, just replaced the one i broke on saturday. But honestly the first thing i did with the phone is put in my SD card and boot up Android....
I really want my GPS back again but i dont really want to go through the hassle of unlocking, flashing, unlocking, and flashing, but if you deem it neccessary. and maybe i will to one day soon. lol heres the link

The cube is way back when man, sorry but those things are old school already. lol so when you flash to the 6.5 NFSFAN rom it will not have the cube, but it will have titanium and manilla 2d, which in my opinion are awesome replacements

Yes, and remember to install the Verizon cab in his post
Well, the phone didn't come with the cube anyways...lol...so anywho...I think the GPS is working anyways...just gotta find a free GPS like vznavi or something.

HD2 Too Sensitive to flashing?

I have been flashing ROM's many times on various htc devices even going far back as hermes (TyTn) days, and all those times only once in a blue moon did have to resort to flashing back a stock ROM or do mtty after a bad flash!
Judging by the number of related post in the ROM Development thread and my own experiences with HD2 what surprises me is how sensitive it is to being flashed many times! where one has to either resort to flashing back stock ROM or perform task 29 through mtty in order to avoid a bad flash or any other issues!!
It's actually got to the point I now know when I've had a bad flash and that I need to either perform task 29 or re-flash stock! I came across this discovery by accident the other day, usually after flash I always perform a hard reset that's when I noticed that the progress bar for hard reset sometimes goes up to quarter or halfway and then it prompts you to re-boot normally the progress bar should go all the way!
I don't know. I don't have any experience with WM phones apart from the HD2, but I just make it a habit to run MTTY between every flash for good measure, since it literally only takes a few extra seconds to do. It's silly not to do it, IMO, if stability is something you are after, which I am.
I've never had a bad flash in my life (HD2 and Diamond) other than of my own wrongdoings...and I've literally flash more times than I care to remember.

Yes it's easy to perform MTTY no big deal! but my point is in the past I would flash probably almost every other day trying every cooked ROM under the sun and seldom have I had any stability issues!!
The point I'm trying to make is could it be the newer EPROM's HD2 are not as resilient as the older ones in previous htc devices?

Noob:HD2 issues....need advice. (T-Mo U.S.)

Hello XDA,
I first off want to say that this site is amazing. Alot of good people on here making some great stuff and i just want to say thank you. Now, my issue...
I purchased the HD2 (T-Mo U.S.) the day it was released and ever since i have gotten the phone i have experienced nothing but issues. The first thing i noted about the phone was that the speaker was WAY too loud. Even when i turned it down it just seemed to be still be loud enough that people in the same room could hear my convo. After a while the speaker started to crackle and now the call quality sounds like ****..it's not all the time but most of the time. Another issue i started to have was that everytime i picked up a call the ear speaker would go mute. I would have to either put the convo on speaker OR hold the phone face down to active speaker, then whip it right back to my ear and it would sometimes unmute itself. You can only imagine my frustration when i called the tmobile store and they tell me i can get a replacement as long as i "wait for a new shipment"
So now to my software issues. As far as modding concerns i have not really changed much on the phone. I' ve installed HD tweeks + some games and my contacts. Now every time i exit a game...the OS either freezes...or it just starts buggin out on me. The bottom bar (phone / menu) will freeze or the whole OS will become super laggy and unresponsive. It has even happened just by using the SMS application at times. Also i find that i could be doing the simplest thing on the phone and for no reason...it wil decide to freeze on me. Sometime half the screen, sometimes the whole thing. I have to remove the battery to reset it when that happens.
Now i know about closing opened programs through the task manager and also about clearing sms's regularly and soon and so forth. If there is anything else you guys think i should consider doing i am ready to hear it. I came from a 1st Gen iPhone that i had since 2007, which i jailbroken for tmobile (the OLD way...lol) and in the 2 years i had that phone the HD2 has given me more problems in its 2 weeks.
Do you guys think i got a really defective phone?...or is WinMo really just that ****ty? I dont want to get another phone but as it is,..im really thinking about just giving up on it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and once again thanks!
I think you have a defective phone. My HD2 (from T-Mobile) doesn't have issues at all with the phone going mute. It could also be the HD tweeks, i would do a hard reset and see if you are still having this issue.
i would suggest try flashing a custom rom with new radio and c if that works i had the call sound problem flashed rom n radio now its crystal clear and runs brilliant

Oh really?...Can you give me more info on this and your previous issue?
my phone would occasional mute or hold the call without me relising and the call quality was terrible my friend in usa has t mob one and he had similar issue he read the stickies in the rom development forum and flashed a custom rom and radio and he thinks it solved his problem it solved mine if its new i would be tempted to take a new handset and see
hope that helps

i wouldnt flash a rom. its a brand new phone do the factory reset first and if that doresnt work exvhange it. If you flash the rom you will void your warranty most likely. IMHO you're already on 2.10 rom which is pretty new and should have all the latest hotfixes

You won't void your warranty flashing anymore... the hspl can easily be taken off now with the same app that puts it on. You can try flashing a rom... it might fix it. Otherwise, flash back to stock rom, take hspl off, and then exchange it. I'm still on stock atm, and haven't had any problems people are complaining of. My only issue is T-mobiles crappy 3g coverage that doesn't even work inside my house. I have 1 more day to decide if I want to return it and go back to at&t... Save up and get myself an australian HD2.
Returning the phone today. Even with the issue of broken ear piece, i just cant take this anymore. Beautiful phone, great UI (sense) but the glitchy-ness of WinMo is just too unbearable. guess ill be getting a Nexus.
it is really up to you if you wanna return it back and get a N1. i bought this phone cause of this specs. and for me it do very nice. you can even buy a iphone also which also very easy to use and less bugs ofcourse nothing is perfect as in "Perfect"
not everybody wants to take risk and flash roms and other stuffs so i guess its your best decision. good luck... but if you need any help about HD2 please feel free to come by this threads...
yea i bought the HD2 hopefully i dont get those problem or else NEXUS one for me too.
