Hi
Love my HD2 but I am on O2.
The gits have removed the wireless router mode.
I know of 4 other HD2's and they all have it on (all non O2).
Looked and looked but cant find anywhere that tells me how to turn it back on.
Dont want to go the whole hog and load a new rom unless some one has the offical htc one.
Is there a reg tweek for it?
Thanks

There is a difference to Wifi and the Wifi router the OP is talking about.
The wifi router is an app that allows you to share your phone's internet connection with a computer by creating a wifi network.

Installed cab. It appears in the remove programs list but nowhere else.
Is there a reg entry i need to change so it appears in comm manager?
Thanks so far
any update on this?
any update on this? I just got my HD2 and want to set up the wireless router feature as well.
Why did Tmobile deactivate it in the first place?

Because the swines want to sell you a USB dongle with a separate contract, I expect
o2 germany
my 02 germany hd2 is able not act as wifi-router. Are you Uk costumer???
update
Update for everyone.
Yes I am on uk O2.
They have taken it off so you dont use your mobile as your home broadband and overload their network (fair usage policy etc). O2 also stopped an app being released for the iPhone that did the same.
I have installed the cab file for the wifi router but cant run it from anywhere. There is probably a registry setting to get it to display in comm manager!
Does anyone know where????
Phone works fine on usb cable and internet connection sharing (with fast download speeds) but often I dont what to plug it into a PC. Would be so much easier to turn on router mode and connect that way.

hey I've searched pretty much everywhere and I can't find a solution, Got K-jam Rom 2.16.9.1, apart from not being able to find a better Rom, I can't fix my wifi issues, weak signal - struggles to connect and usually gives an error stating that it couldn't assign IP adress. ok so far I've put wifi setting to full performance and placed a registry hack, but nothing changed. assigning my own IP I haven't tried cause I don't know how to do it! anyhow I know this wifi problem is old, but perhaps there is a solution out there!
anyone come across a solution ?
Try to update the Radio ROM.
I'm having this same problem and I can't figure out how to fix it.
I'll try connecting to wifi at home and work and it'll say it's connecting but never actually connects, and then an error message will come up saying "cannot obtain a server assigned IP address"
and I've already updated my Radio to the 2.19.11 version. I also tried changing the access point name from "wap.voicestream.com" to "internet2.voicestream.com" and that didn't work either.
Please help!
ah dude if your using t-mobile, then u have to get 2.69, works best
If you have T-Mobile and you're having this problem it's because you can't use the proxy while you're connected to wifi. You have to go in to connection settings and remove the check from the use proxy checkbox.

i just checked the proxy setting and it actually wasnt checked...but im at my friends house and the wifi is actually working. i guess it just doesnt work at home and work haha.
If it works at your friends house and not at home or work, is your network protected? Did you supply it with the keys if it is?

Yeah at home my network is password protection and I do have the key, but still doesn't work :*(
The one I connected to earlier was an unsecure network, btw.
Ref: Wifi - New Rom
I have i Mate K-Jam with ROM 2.16.9.1 WWE. Post that I have upgraded Radio Rom to 2.47.11 which is available on XDA ftp site and it works well with 64 and 128 bit WEP key and over Wireless Access Points which are G or B standard.

It sounds like you may be using the wrong type of security on the network. Log in to the network with a laptop and then check the security settings. I generally use WPA-Personal with TKIP. However there are several other possibilities. My WIZA100 works fine with my g-54 set to TKIP.

I admit that I am somewhat unaware of some of the workings on the Wiz. However, I thought that the Radio Rom was only for the GSM functions. Does the ROM also include the Wireless Radio functions?

Hi, i thought this falls under hacking so I posted it here. First off, allow me to mention that my device is an O2 Atom. I work for a corporation w/c has it own internal security implementation. I'm not sure, if the said corporate security is the reason, that I could not detect any access points(AP)? But my pc w/c also has a custom corporate build, can detect and successfully connect to the APs. Can the corporate restrict or hide it from an unauthrorize personal device, like my O2 Atom?
The wifi in my atom is working fine, as I could verify this by connection from my brothers house, w/c has his on personal internet connection w/ wireless access point(AP) setup. I've also used several wireless detection applications here and there, but still could not detect wifi in the office area. Kindly advice.

The Atom (as far as I'm aware) only supports Wi-Fi 802.11b
One reason is the network you cant see might be a 802.11g or n, which is not able to be connected to.. you can nicely ask your network admin to enable .11b backwards compatability.
Another reason is because they are maybe not broadcasting the network name SSID, your device cant see it - even though it is actually there. I don't know if the Atom has the ability to specify a network connection it cant see.
Hope this helps.

can a registry tweak enable this 802.11g or n thing? i saw in one of the threads here the said registry tweak and sk tools has this. i tried both but still no luck would you happen to know if it is hardware or is it really possible to strech this capability on atom?

the g/n wifi options are hardware specific, so unless you want to buy a new phone you might be out of luck, sorry to say.
I'm surprised your network admin has not enabled 'b' compatabilty, but there's so many different security concerns he may have done it for the right reasons. Talk to them, it's the only way to be sure (be warned though - a lot of admins wont like you using non-offical hardware on their networks)

hi snachez, our network admin verified that our APs are running on B and G. i've also verified that my unit is B compliant. btw, my device is an O2 Atom. i think i mess it up with the registry tweak i mentioned before. apparently is it for another device. my mistake this is the said registry tweaks:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS: dot11SupportedRateMask=1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS: dot11SupportedRateMaskG=8
Your problem is probably that the SSID isn't being broadcasted, so you'll have to connect manually.
btw, i'm using a cooked rom. maybe there is somebody out there that is still using the official wm5 for o2 atom, please verify and post the default(O2 Atom official wm5) registry of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS: Thanks in advance...
Anybody used the wi-fi router option on the hd2 to connect their pc to internet? I have startet the application and it says running, but no wi-fi router is found on mine or my colleagues computers. I tried the same thing with the wifi hotspot app for iphone, and that worked as a charm.
Just wondering if anyone else has got it working at all?

Mine's an O2 phone that came without the WiFi Router app installed on the ROM. I downloaded and installed Tom Condon's HTC WiFi cab from and it works well. The only thing that I don't have (yet) is the shortcut to the WiFi Router app from the Comm Manager interface.

*Edit....this *does* work but the range is abysmal, the HD2 has to be sat on top of my laptop in order for it to work.

I heard O2 ripped the wifi app and drivers out of their ROM (not 100% sure). If thats the case you could always flash the Official HTC ROM which will restore wifi, clear a load of horrible O2 branding and add Youtube app Check out this Tutorial on how to do it.
By the way I've use the Wifi app and my Linux and Windows PC/laptops can all detect and connect to the phone. Handy if your out of cable...but unsecure due to WEP.

I had the YouTube app on my O2 ROM. I've now flashed with the latest official HTC ROM and WiFi Router is now fully installed.
I've found that name of Wi-Fi router needs no space !!! so, my computer could found it now...
been using wifi tethering with win7 64bit laptop no probs - nice function to have.
I tried to use, but can't see it neither in a XP nor a Vista!!!
my computer could'nt see it too
I could see and connect but no connectivity to the internet
Assigning IP took about 1 min
I can confirm it works fine for me, on an unbranded device.
It worked for me but only when I switched off my home broadband wifi router.

They may have been using the same channel, which would mean that the stronger signal would drown out the weaker one. I'd expect a home router to have a stronger signal so that would make sense. You can change the channel that your home wifi router uses, if this is an issue for you.
Hi guys, i would like to know if it's possible to navigate on Hero with the PC connection just like on Windows Mobile with ActiveSync. Thanks
not out of the box, no. HTC Sync is not designed to allow that.
I don't hook mine up to the PC at all so i don't know of any workarounds or third party apps, but i am sure that if it is possible, someone here will know how.
I know this has been asked before, and i have a nasty suspicion the answer may well be no.
Ok, thanks for the quick reply. This means that i have to wait a week before starting navigate with my Hero.. i've got a problem with my operator atm and i can't subscribe a data connection

Do any of the custom roms around here allow it?
I am able to do this on an older HTC Touch Diamond.

You could do it on a Touch Diamond, because this has long been a function of WinMo. I'm not aware if this is even possible within the versions of Android currently available, but I'm sure it will come eventually.

How would I do that?
first of all, youd have to find a hero that actually works with an Ad-Hoc connection!
Do you not have a wifi network at home? if so, just hook it up to that and use your broadband.

With this Cab installed it can I believe:
http://bwone.com/downloadsthebowmanpackpro2.zip
Take the cab file in the zip and put it on your phone then install.
you can connect the hd2 to the laptop with the usb cable and choose the built in internet sharing application or share via bluetooth. wifi router is a paid program but also excellent program since it turns the hd2 into a wireless router.

Yeah, but you can still install the application file in the USA T-mobile version of the HD2 right?
reclaim wifi router with hard reset?
My Tilt had the native internet sharing option hidden. I received advice from this forum to do a "hard reset" followed immediately on boot up by a soft reset. It was great it took off all the AT&T garbage programs and gave back the Internet Sharing and other at&t blocked tools.
Will that work here on the T-Mobile HD2? And how?

Yes
Download the file in the 3rd post in this thread...unzip it on your desktop...copy the HTC WIFI sharing cab file to your HD2 SD Card...use the file explorer on your hd2 to navigate to the SD card...install...surf
Using the Wifi router cab worked flawlessly last week while I was in Vegas. I was using it with my macbook air and no problems.
so this only works for sharing a wifi connection, or will it work for using the cellular network as well?

When you use the WiFi Router Application, it turns your HD2 into a access point. The HD2, now an access point gets connectivity from your 3G/Edge/GPRS Data Connection and transfers it to the device ( notebook, desktop, etc) you connect to the HD2 Router application.
Simply put, you are using the HD2's data(internet) without having to connect cables.
Hope this helps clear things up for you
Thank you,
Monnie
sweet! this is what I was looking for.. did TMo include this application, or does it need to be installed from a separate source?
anyone try it on a mac yet? how is that set up?
edit: nevermind.. this isn't for "tethering"- it's for using your device as a wifi "hotspot", right? so I just open airport and tell it to connect to the name of my hd2 network connection...

I wanted the wifi tethering as well, but when I installed wifi-sharing cab it kind of wigged out my phone a little. No longer allowing me to use wifi on my phone it was thinking I was trying to launch the app and would not connect to my home router. So now I use the Internet Sharing App that comes with the phone. It is super easy to use with no side effects. All you need is a USB. Just go to start/tools/internet sharing. and bingo!

First, try changing the SSID (network name) on the phone...don't use whatever it defaults to, try "pandanet" or something.
Second, I know there's a couple of cabs floating around for the wifi router thing, the one I have attached here is the only one I got working properly..don't know if this is the same one you used or not.
