Won't hardware benchmarks always be the same between all ROMs?
Is there a way to objectively benchmark resource management? Speed of the interface, opening apps etc.
i didnt see the last one but id like to see benchmarks like on te gsm roms
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=656818
Also the following for benchmarking:
For 3D Performance
* Qualcomm's "NeoCore" 1.9.18 - Measured in FPS
For 2D Performance
* Softweg's "Benchmark" 1.03 - Measured by an internal score
* "Lag test" - Originally to measure 2D performance for Motorola Droid users. Measured in FPS
For CPU Performance
* Linpack for Android - Measured in MFLOPS
All of the tests mean: The higher, the better.
The method of testing was the usual flashing, a couple of reboots to make sure every caching necessary was done and the average of 3 benchmark of each test.

And it's also 1.5 which makes it irrelevant for these tests.
Someone should come out with a rom, with JIT enabled.
Then they can claim they have the fastest rom.
I had it running on dc 2.7.2 without any problems.. Just cant use anything HTC, like lockscreen or sense.
But nexus or helix launcher and beautiful widgets, everything is normal again.
JIT is too buggy still, im looking foward to playing with compcache when someone gets 2.6.29 source working

I agree its not perfect.. But i can use it on my daily rom and run every app I would on a normal day without an issue.
Before dc 2.06 came out, i ran it on dc 2.05 for 3 days straight.'
I dont use bluetooth or some other random things. So it would probably start 101 problems for some people.. Like theres not enough already.

Well, I guess if people are willing to download a new rom, they would like to look into all their options, not only one. For that matter, this thread (found on page 3) is much more helpful:

I don't notice more heat than usual. I only notice heat when charging and it's from the battery. Battery life is better than with stock settings. I use SetCPU, no profiles, ondemand governor and ben39_nobfs_noCC_no-whining kernel.

is yours stable at 748 if you run the setcpu stress tester for a minute or two?
if so then that's cool - I might have to try that speed too. I know mine locks up instantly at 780mHz more or less, but solid as a rock at 730. I have a feeling I tried 748 and it slowed to a crawl in the stress test and became really unresponsive yet not fully locking up... which to me makes that speed much worse than keeping it a little slower with 100% stability.
EDIT: stress testing 748 right now and it's still working ok... so maybe I stress tested a higher speed instead? running at basically 750mHz is freakin amazing for our little heroes if we can keep them running like that for the next couple of years
update: stress tested my phone at 748mHz results: lasted for 112725 ms before I exited the test with no errors! This little hero is so amazing!
EDIT: whoops - just reset itself LoL.... damn, I hope it boots up ok since I got cocky and set it to boot with the 748 top speed.... damn...
But I'll try it again - you've got me curious now
I have not stress tested the device but it runs stable for a couple of days now. No reboots and no lockups. The devices are somehow different some cannot run at 748 others can. Mine is even stable at 768Mhz but I i suffer less battery life with that setting, so I leave it 748 and everything is ok.
Dexa can you link me that kernel? I'm running ben39_nobfs_no-whining kernel clocked at 738mhz stable with stress testing and I'm curious about the noCC part that you're running. Thanks!
Ah never mind I found it; there was an updated version.

What benchmarks would this show up in on the n1?
There's no benchmark about responsiveness or latency of the system at the moment.
But you really can feel it with multitasking.
I've nimbuzz, Skype, tweetdeck, Gmail, Ms email etc everything always ON.
I switch a lot between applications and so I really fell the difference not freeze while switching between browser and calandar music etc.
My nexus one is clearly under heavy usage with me all the time.
So since there's no benches I cannot tell exactly how good it is. But phoronix speak about
-10% lag
+60% responsiveness
Which is awesome! Even just half of that would be excellent!

Nothing wrong with me, would just like to see some real stats, its way too easy to think things "feel faster" especially if you are expecting them to, just like some people feel certain UV kernels have longer life than others, unless you actually do the numbers(which was done), it is really just what people "feel", and that is extremely unreliable.

I'm sorry Sir, but are you ****ing-kidding-me? With almost stock 2.1 i had ~380. With azure 1.0.x now i have ~460.
I have not programmed anything in android yet, but I know programming java for some years and I think that I can tell you why those spectacular benchmarks doesn't apply in most games.
The improvements have been made in the dalvik virtual machine, which is responsible for executing the java code of the applications.
But if programmes want more performance, they can write part of the program directly in native code, developed in C or C++. This code cannot be optimized (more), thus applicacions using JNI massively don't see any improvement.
I suppose many games should be using JNI because of the advantages in performance, so they're already 'optimized'.
Please, correct me if I'm wrong

Sorry my bad.
Seems like JIT was disabled only until Azure 0.6.
However I can confirm that my Azure 1.0.1 quadrant score was 4XX (which is kind of low...), and as I now have 1095 with CM6.1 I don't think theres a problem with my legend's performance.
Sorry for the newbie question, but.. how do I run a Quadrant Benchmark ?
I know these numbers refer to the performance, and that the 2.2 scores a lot better, but in actual everyday usage - battery life, speed etc. what does this practically mean?

Really, doesn't everything need more cowbell?
KA6: I have been using it since it was released. It is nice. Better GPS than the previous releases. I do wonder why its not giving a faster quadrant score. I think it's RFS and the absence of a JIT compiler. Why can't Samsung just change to EXT 4? I'm not an expert by any means but the lag fixes use EXT 4. I know Quadrant is not an end-all-be-all test, but why would the Nexus one be putting out big numbers on older hardware?

Absence of a JIT compiler? I thought THAT was a feature added in Froyo.
Who said this build didn't have a JIT compiler? It runs 13-14 Linpack scores just like every other SGS Froyo build. The compiler is not optimized for our processor, so you don't get the N1 type of scores. Gingerbread is optimized, which is the reason for the giant leap in stock Quadrant (ext 4 helps too). Patiently waiting for Krylon to work the bugs out of GB
Just went from a noob to a super duper updated vibrant, now running KA6 with Voodo kernel lagfix
I have a Vibrant rooted running the Team Whiskey Bionix-v1.2.1 ROM. I have a few apps that I use daily, but the only one I know does any major damage to speed is beautiful widgets. I don't use any live backgrounds. I scored a 1536 on a benchmark test from Quadrant Standard.
Do you guys know of ways to better these scores?
Use AutoKiller Memory Optimizer
Unless your phone actually feels sluggish I wouldnt worry about quadrant scores. If it is sluggish try installing Voodoo or one of the Universal Lagfix in the developers section.

actually, if you going for score some of the older J-rom series with over clock really scored high........ But with the current setup, you typically have 11-15 or so things that are open and TSR, if you remove alot of those to make it a vanilla barebones, then o.c it...... you can improve the score........ BUT speed scores are not worth much other than bragging rights.......... Like everyone else said if your phone is performing well then,..........who cares about the scores

Stock 2.2.1 is the fastest/smoothest ROM I've used on this phone ever and it hasn't even been optimized. I also downloaded the Dragon Kernel v3.6 and overclocked it to 1.28Ghz and its very stable.
