Desktop Integration with CDMA Hero - Hero CDMA General

Everyone,
I have been scouring the web in an attempt to find a "bluephone elite"-esk app for OS X (or windows) that will integrate with my Hero.
I effing loved this app with my sony ericsson. It is, with some phones, full integration of your phone with your computer. It allows you to do things like: get SMS notifications on your computer screen and reply to them from your lappy/desktop, mod your address book, gives you power and radio stats from your computer, pops up a notepad when you receive a call, and notifies you who is calling with a popup on your desktop.
I'll be honest, I'm mostly interested in the SMS notification and reply features.
Bluephone does offer some but not all features. They say that the phone "lacks required features".
If anyone knows of another program like this I would love to know about it... And if there are any dev's that know why bluephone can offer full integration I would love to hear why.

I found one...but they want $40 for it.

Yeah. If you are really into getting/sending SMS messages on your computer check out Google Voice (free).

Unfortunately, gVoice only supports sending SMS if you use a Google number; I'd imagine that he'd want the messages to appear to come from his cellphone.
I'm told that http://code.google.com/p/android-notifier/ will be adding support for replying to SMS and making calls sometime in the near future. For now, it only works to receive SMS, voicemail notifications and caller ID.

droid explorer has that ability

This also has me very interested in finding such an application.

Step 1: Cut a hole in a box
(j/k) Just head over to CodePlex to download/install DroidExplorer then with the program open go to TOOLS -> PLUGINS -> DESKTOP SMS

I chuckled with that step.
But, will that tell me if I have incomming calls too, or just SMS?

Any chance we can get one that's wireless, bluetooth, or something along those lines?

I haven't used this app nor does it give much detail on it's features but it works for Mac and Windows.

On a side note:
I can't get droidexplorer to work anyway. Do I need to set it up to look for the messaging app or something?

This project has a long way to go.
Do not want.
<doesn't stay connected, buggy as hell, no alert for incoming sms, fugly>

Pdanet has an sms pop up when tethering that works on the 2.1 eris build, but I haven't tried it on a sprint based rom yet, and it didn't work on 1.5 so I'm not completely sure it will on these latest roms

Step 1 = Awesome.
Well DroidExplorer is web based... Do Not Want.
Many of you will think I'm being too picky here but once you've had Bluephone you can't go back. Its "one-stop-shop" for all the stuff you want in Desktop Integration.
It looks like most of the HTC phones aren't compatible with bluephone though. I wonder if the problem is HTC crippling the bt from the factory.
I think I'm just going to have to buck up and see if I can code it myself.

Droid Explorer is not web based. The sms part for desktop is java based. In order to connect to phone you need to have the server apk installed and started on the phone.

For those too posh to push:
Do you like chatting with people you don’t know? Do you want to be able easily share multimedia files with your friends? Do you hate the cost of MMS? Well now you can do it all via BlueTooth ? Find your target, take aim and let Sniper do the rest! Sniper is a MoSoSo (Mobile Social Software) application designed to operate using BlueTooth. Using Sniper you can send/receive and reply to text messages from other BlueTooth equipped phones (including non Windows Mobile devices such as Nokias and Sony-Ericssons). Sniper also contains a BlueTooth scanner which will locate discoverable BlueTooth devices in your vicinity to start socializing with. Sniper will also allow you to transfer files between devices as well as messages. With just a few clicks you can designate folders (on the storage card if you wish) for Music, pictures or any kind of file. Sniper is skinnable and comes with a range of cool skins. More skins may be easily added. Sniper also includes a Bluejacking feature which means you can send files or messages to all devices within range at the same time. A useful feature for sending out Business cards at meetings! Since BlueTooth is short range 10-12 meters and does not use a Wireless carriers data network, all this messaging and data transfer is FREE

Name just one?
Sniper is not just a BlueTooth manager.
With it you can
1. Send/receive messages and have an inbox
2. Allows the use of preprepared msg templates and you can create your own new ones at the touch of a button.
3. Send/receive files (to your storage card if you wish) and specify default folders for different incoming file types
4. Store often used addresses in address book with friendly names
5. Scan for all devices in Range
6. Sniper, will on request, BlueJack all devices in range with a file or msg until you tell it to stop.
7. Talk to any other BlueTooth device, doesn't have to be windows mobile.
This is just a sample of what it does and it's less than a fiver
So, what is the better freeware alternative???

TellMeText FREEWARE (SMS read )

TellMeText intercepts incoming SMS (text) messages to your Windows Mobile device and reads them out to you before they go to your inbox. This can be really useful in situations where you have your phone but can't or don't want to physically touch it to read incoming messages. (For example, if you're driving a car or eating your lunch).
TellMeText can run in the background so it doesn't interfere with your normal use of the device.
The TextToSpeech functionality is provided by software from the Flite project.
TellMeText requires priviliged access to your device in order to intercept the SMS messages. For this reason, we strongly recommend that you download and install BlondieSoft's Windows Mobile Certificates first.

While this sounds cool I'm not so sure how great it would work for me. I don't know about everyone else but everyone that txts me writes in short hand. Hell its almost like a new language everything is short hand to fit in as much as possible as fast as possible.
It would be interesting to see how that would be read.
how to use it? I have installed it and when mes comes there is nothing change??

Yeah, you gotta go to voice command options in personel then select messaging. click notifications then pick "announce notifications through device speaker or wired headset"( default seems to be using bluetooth handsfree. I tend to turn off "Password Protected" too but not sure if this is important or not. Will announce sms messages but not sure about e-mails, haven't really tried, maybe someone can experiment and post results. Cheers.
I don´t like the "crappy" synthesized voice...would be great to change pitch, speed, man or woman, etc.
Looks very interesting, thank you.
It would be great if we could run a command line to this program, like -on or -off, so I can make a shortcut on my Ultimate Launch. I only want this on when I'm in the car or something, and if I can easily turn it on and off with a single shortcut, that would make it very useful.

it should work as long as you uncheck the box for high priority messages only. MSVC will only read the subject on emails though.
I was using MSVC to read my texts, but because of my job title, felt it wouldn't be too professional to have it read a personal message out loud for everyone to hear. I did however have some fun seeing what it could read aloud. I.E.: the Oscar Meyer Weiner Song was hilarious to hear on it.

yes. No button mapping needed.. PTT button is a software button on program.
Likin it! Thanks Volt
I also can verify that it is working nicely, a few glitches to work out all in good time. I used HButton to remap the program so when minimized it comes up, then on my wizard I use the center on the d pad and hold while I talk then release. Just like nextel, bit slower but free, what can I say! You have to (sender and receiver) both be set up on the system to communicate but that doesn't take too long to get set up. Put the word out and we can all help work out the kinks so this system can run smoothly. Remeber before you lauch you must already be connected to the internet. Andason is also correct, if you leave it open then you would not have to do any mapping at all as the program uses the select button on your phone. If it is a different button on your phone it will not be difficult to find by trial and error. Remapping isn't that difficult and HButton is a free program, works great...................Later.
Hey Voltage?
Hey Voltage do you know how a person with a touch screen only (no hardware buttons) can utilize this great software. Is there an issue because of the lack of a default hardware button to access?
hey wanted to just re-post that the developers are watching

[Req] - WM6.5 Twitter Tab + notification

Hello dear community,

[very simple mockup ]
Okay so basicly it has a
tabslide for updating your status
tabslides for unread tweets*
*cause tweets will only have 140 characters.. it will be possible to show them completely in the tabslide itself.. hovering over means.. it is read
avatar image
it has a function to show like unread text/email... but than how many unread tweets.
it should have a notification option in the sound/alarms section inside wm6.5 options.. so you can add your own sound/vibrate/mute to it.
and most important.. it should run in backround.. without popping up in the taskmessenger.
it should have options for how many times a day it will update (5 minutes/30 minitues etc)
clickable url's
extra - a sort of extra inprogram window ( this will mean you go out of wm6.5 today ). where you can see all tweets. or at least latest 100 or something
I hope someone can develop this, cause i think personally it will have a big target audience Me myself.. aint a programmer.. would like to, but i simply dont know where to start on it and/or how!
tx
strages
anyone? comon know some want it too
this would be really nice
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=509388
this thread is also on developing a twitter tab for wm6.5
let me get my cabs working then I will see where I can go with mine. I like the idea though. If someone wants to beat me to it thats cool too.

Isn't twitter accessible via standard SMS? I thought most people use twitter in tandem with their built-in SMS system, and since you already have a txt plugin on titanium you should be good to go!
Sure, it would be nice to see the mailboxes kept seperate between tweets and all else, but personally I'd like to see an RSS feed or active tasks (i.e. the PIM tasks) since there is currently no other way to get that on the 6.5 today screen.
so if i use pocketwit on my phone right an send twitts, itll be using my text messages??? i ask cause i dont have an unlimited text plan an dont wanna get burned aka screwed with a huge bill!!!

Not necessarily. I said it CAN be used in tandem with SMS, and it shares many similarities (limited character message size, etc), however that doesn't mean you get charged for each tweet.
I don't know anything about pocketwit, but it may use data instead of SMS.
Most people I know use standard SMS instead of data, especially if they don't own a smartphone.
While I would agree that a twitter plugin is a cool idea (if you sms a lot, your tweets could get lost in the crowd), there are other potential plugins as I already mentioned that currently have no alternative. If it were up to me, I'd like to see those come out first.

PockeTwit uses data.
thanks for the guys who like my idea.. hope someone can compup with the acutal program XD

It should be possible to build a panel a bit like Shocos Weather panel which comes in two MortScript parts:
1. Settings, stores stuff in the registry like username, password and frequencies of updates, default Twitter app
2. The downloading of the tweet, shouldn't be too hard as it's pretty similar to the weather panel (might need a little work on the avatars), just need the RSS feed [although saying that, I'm not 100% sure you can get a password requested XML file with Mort, damm!].
The only thing that I can't see being possible is the update page, as I'm not aware of any input boxes on the tabs, instead you could have a page showing your status, with clicking on it bringing up a Mort prompt for the new status.

How do you block a number?

I remember on my droid there was an option to send numbers directly to vmail. Does this phone have it? Or just block the number? An available app?

I'm trying to remmber what the option is but if you have launcher pro installed you can block numbers with it. You don't have to be using the launcher though. If I remember right, start up launcher pro and press on the screen like you are adding a widget. Select shortcuts then activities. Depending on home many apps you have installed it can take a little bit for the phone to build this list. When it comes up scroll down to call settings, select it then scroll down to auto reject list click on it. It will make a shoetcut on your home page. Click on it and add numbers. The shortcut can be erased and the numbers will stay. Also you don't have to be using launcher pro for it to work.

AOSP roms have the option to send a number straight to voicemail in the contacts list but any blacklist app in the market will do this.

I use a profile in Tasker. When a phone # I specify rings, it picks up the phone, and then hangs up.
I am, however, working on something a bit more devious. Tasker will do just about anything, so I've gotten my hands on an audio file that does the "Doo doo deep! Your call could not be completed as dialed, please hang up and try again."
I've written a profile that will pick up the line, mute the microphone, and play back the audio file on a loop until the caller hangs up. Going to test it when my girlfriend gets home from work.
