will it be possible to hack it for tmob? mighty devs?

There has to be a way to bypass carrier check

probably a change in build.prop
the same way users are able to use Skype and other Sprint/ATT/Verizon apps

There doesn't "have to be"
If the NFL is only allowing access to their service from Verizon's IP addresses, there is nothing we can do about it.
I hope this is not the case though. NFL's exclusivity deals are a bunch of BS.

Verizon and AT&T block wifi tethering from market.

I thought we'd all get a nice lol out of this ;-)

agreed.. more reasons to be on sprint..
Agreed, what's funny though is they can still get the apk online. But I suppose its a small step in their intentions

yeah.. pretty sure that anyone that knows how to root to get tether to work knows where to find the apk.
But according to the article the carriers can differ the use of their own tethering services and the use of tethering that Google wanted to be allowed in Android, basically even if it isn't on the market it's less people using the tethering and makes it easier to pinpoint and cut people off.
A) Sprint will likely follow suit
B) I didn't even know it was available in the market lol.

Hmm I wonder how they would go about doing so, and am curious if they are able to if we have removed carrierIQ?

Sprint's the only company that hasn't followed in the major two's footsteps so far.
First being encrypted locked boot-loaders. Not one phone has been so encrypted that it's impenetrable. Then second being this. I think Sprint's taking the route of T-Mobile and going to support AOSP to the fullest. Of course, it's wishful thinking but on the other hand, it does appear to be the case...for now.
I would lie to know the source of info in that article stating that they can tell when you are tethering. I don't believe that is true. Data should be data. There was another article out and this was not stated, just the block. That is achieved by the market lkooking for the carrier's signature and not showing certain apps, like Verizon's NFL app to Sprint or At&T.
Sorry for the newbie question, but does anyone know how to remove the carrier IQ? It seems that if that is not there then one cannot be detected tethering.
I am a new EPIC user and rooted my phone using the oneclick method and RFS filesystem. Basically rooted just for tethering my tablets to my phone for occassional net access. So how do I go removing sprint's IQ? TIA!

Yup. Put on a ROM that has it removed. Read OPs in development ROMs
I had to post here.
I noticed this, and when I went on the website to install it, it said I couldn't "Carrier blocks the install."
I go on my phone, fire up the market, and it lets me install it from there.
So apparently, T-Mo just wants me to download it from my phone, not from their website.
Whatever, I didn't even know that there was a website for the market till like a week ago. xD
Currently, putting a rom on is the only way to remove it.
There its also the factor of how much data is used - generally, a tethered device like a computer or game console would use more data than the phone by itself. If Sprint sees an unusual amount of data being downloaded, they might be able to consider that proof enough (just speculation, I'm not an expert but it is plausible)
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
i think sprint cares just a little less because their data plans are truly unlimited. my phone is my only source of internet. i use it to download movies and games and everything else. i use about 9-30Gb of data a month. and 've been doing it for over a year. no one has terminated my contract or throttled my data speeds or anything. they put up with it as long as i pay my bill.

(contribution to the Android Community I say )
I use so much data and tethering is a small amount. I wonder if they track based on browser?

It would be an easy sell for sure if it was available.
any hackers find a way to trick the app?
There is a new 2011 NFL app for tablet on the market...works great...

Carriers Suck!
Sucks, this got hacked previously to run on any device. Seems someone with skills could get past a device model check, even if the app still does a network check. I'm so sick of carriers and media providers being so stingy with their content! Ugh!

Wireless tether

I was going to ask this in the root thread but I can't post there yet. Is there a way to enable wireless tether to work without it redirecting to the verizon site?

Technically, we are not a fan of provisioning yourself features that haven't been paid for. That said, using secondary methods like Barnacle or having an altered kernel that performs said HotSpot methods differently than the native.
However, you may want to note that Verizon is now actively looking for all these methods and trying to circumvent them. So YMMV, and watch your back.

App request: Xfinity TV Go app that works with T-Mobile 4G

Like the title says, trying to use my T-Mobile Note 3 to stream movies via Xfinity app but apparently only Verizon users have this privlage. That's pretty messed up, may drop Comcast if I don't find a solution. Is there some kind of FCC rule against this kind of thing?

I have noticed same thing and after small read, apparently they have struck some kind of exclusive deal and #[email protected]&#[email protected] the rest of us. I find it very unfair. I pay good price for the service and do t see why I have to be excluded from ALL benefits of it.
Would love to see if there is an old app that works before an update or if there is a hack to trick fake wifi over 4g
Ohhhhh man.. same here bro. . I have att now and my note 3 will not stream on 3/4g like it did on verizon. I am using Android tuner to adjust permissions to see if I can get it to work. Will report back

Will the Moto X allow unlimited native tethering out of the box?

I have a few buddies who have the One Plus One and claim to have unlimited native tether without tripping any kind of notice to their mobile provider.
Will the Moto X Pure Edition have the ability to do this? Or will it have to be rooted for this to happen? I currently use the Wifi Tether Router app on a Rooted S6 Edge and it works great.
If you're buying a SIM free device, why would Moto tell anyone what you're up to?
Ahhh I always thought that Mobile providers could tell?

If they look close enough they can tell. Some have basic flags set up to alert them but they are easy to bypass.

I was reading through the 2014 Moto X threads where people were discussing how to edit their build.prop scripts so that native tethering would not be detected.
I just met up with my buddy today who has a One Plus One and he showed me his native tethering app and it worked great...

CDMA doesn't even exist outside of the US, so I never give it any thought whatsoever. I said SIM free because that's how the device is being sold, without contract.
