youtube out of memory - HD2 General

Hello everyone!
I am on .48 ROM and I have installed all the hotfixes available for me. I have although installed CorePlayer and TCPMP Player on the phone memory not on the SD card. After awhile, not immediatly, the youtube application started to not function properly telling me that there is not enough space. I uninstalled those 2 players and youtube works again. The question is why my phone memory is so full while all I have is the operating system and it's hotfixes?

anyone? what do i do wrong?

Do you have lots of photos/videos on your phone? HTC Album uses a lot of space for cache. There is a cab somewhere on this forum (do a search) for a HTC Album cache move to the storage card.
Also, search on this forum for ways to move the Opera cache to the memory card too.

You may also want to navigate to:
windows-youtube----there you will see a few folders and TONNES of thumbnails....delete the thumbnails.

But why the need to do all those things?! Is this because the RAM is too small or because of the ROM? All I have installed is Windows Mobile and this is using the ROM memory. The Ram memory should be empty. Right?
Or maybe i do not understand corectly the notions of RAM and ROM memory?

I think the issue is with the ROM, you should have about 130Mb free if you haven't got any caches (mentioned above) in use, but these can easily increase to fill that if you use the Album and Music tabs as well as Opera/Internet Explorer

Windows Mobile is very powerful but on the other hand it needs maintainance, especially when apps use the internal memory as a temp location. Youtube and HTC Album are such apps.

installing programs on Diamonds (memory question)

As all us Diamond owners know all too well, we are dealing with a pathetically small amount of main memory. I've got virtually no aftermarket apps installed, and my main storage memory only has about 20MB left.
Two Q's
1. Is it possible to uninstall bundled apps? When I go to "Remove Programs" I only see the apps/cabs that I've installed aftermarket.
2. Is it adviseable/possible to install apps to the internal storage card? I've always been under the impression that programs should go in the "partition" where ...\Windows resides, but that may not be true.
Thanks.
1. yes it is possible if u cook your own rom.

2. why not ? (you wore wrong )

Every app I install goes in the Internal Storage because, well, what's the point of having 4GB of memory and not using it? I did the same with my previous XDA IIi; everything went onto the external memory card and it's never caused any problems.
cool, sometimes it's good to be wrong!
no way am I cooking my own ROM though. I would totally find a way to screw that up.
no other way to remove pre-installed apps?
and additionaly why install apps??? I have quite a long time apps folders on my internal storage with shortcuts in windows folder and they WORK so I saved space and as bonus doesnt screw up system with aditional installs after HR...

Install apps onto the internal storage and create shortcuts in \windows with total commander. It saves memory space and also headache from reinstalling apps after flashing a new ROM.

[Phone Memory] How to clean up unnecessary files clogging the memory ? ?

I have realized my phone memory decreasing over time, I had 100+mb before and now its on 55mb
Does it have to do with album cache or internet cache ?
How can I know what exactly is taking up the memory on my HTc HD2?
it depends on.
Look at here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638
I would go for the hints described how to move the opera cache to storage card (#65) and then go for the hints by #67....
Use SKtools or Memmaid to clean it up....
And the obviousness that is - don't install software to the device. Install it to your storage card.
The biggest memory hog is the Youtube cache. Delete it from \Windows\Youtube.
Thanks for the replies guys,
Yeah I only install in storage memory. Thanks lee, I did move the cache storage to the storage card
Dont have much youtube cache I believe, I want to use SKtools or Memmaid, do they really work ? (assuming anyone tried it ? )
yeah, is there a specific version of memmaid/sktools for the hd2 or is any fine?
I am using ClearTemp and change the custom folders to \Windows\Opera\Profile\Cache and \Windows\Youtube.

And the reason of using a much slower memory for most of your everyday programs instead of the faster and already available for that reason system memory being...?
System storage is actually not related to RAM and filling it up does not really affect your performance, so I would always use the faster system storage for my most important applications (that excludes games, of course).

HD2, system disk full

Hi,
Just few days ago, I had like 20 MB of free disk space, today its <1 MB. Already deleted all the temp files, etc. using software.
Any ideas? Is it possible to sort folders by size or do some other inspection, as it does that for files only.
- Install all your apps to Storage Card?
And if you download your apps through the Marketplace, get the new version of it which gives you the option of installing apps to Storage Card.
- Move pictures, documents to Storage Card.
- Delete unecessary MMS'es
- Email. Are attachments save to phone memory or storage card.
Hi, all pics, videos, mms, emails are deleted, most of the software is installed in storage card.

Flash a "lite" ROM that doesn't install all the operator crap when you first boot.
BTW which disk space is it refering too? Storage or program memory?
Storage
180.60 total
Used 179+
Yeah, but I want to find out, who consumed all that disk space... There must be something.
Free storage: 0.00
And I did freakin nothing... Surfed system via file explorer
get Memmaid and run a Quick Clean.

This issue seems to be running through a number of threads and its not just a matter of clearing mem. I never clear anything and I don't get my storage mem filing up and I only ever install to phone.
Lets start again and take a scientific approach.
Give full details of network, ROM, installed apps etc.

Hi, using official 1.66 ROM on Tele2 network (3G), noticed this issue when I was abroad (and was not installing any softwares or games, just surfing the net via Opera Mobile 10).
Flashlight, Gyrator, clearRam (or clean ram), incall lock, net 3.5, smartlock, skype (installed before went abroad, but into 1gb card) and swype, that's pretty much it.
I have also removed many items from start menu and noticed that HTC recreates some of the shortcuts (not sure if this is related or not) with blacnk icons, such as HTC Messages.

OK. Let's run with your configuration.
Firstly do you install to mem card or phone mem?
Secondly have you done a hard reset and fresh install of settings?
I currently run CleanEX HQ 2.32 Uni WWE ROM with 2.06.50.23_3 radio.
I have 30 apps showing in the start menu of which 10 were preinstalled with the ROM.
My base mem is as follows-
RAM 576 MB
ROM 512 MB
Storage 292.91 MB
System settings shows-
Storage
Total 292.91 MB (as above)
In use 89.30 MB
Free 203.61 MB
Program (RAM)
Total 453.78 MB (of the full available 576 MB)
In use 170.39 MB
Free 283.39 MB
I don't see any reason why yours should be significantly different, however, if it is there is definately some problem with some apps hogging resources.
And it appears to be occuring on the T-mobile US versions?
Very strange!
had this problem before when using dutty's old cook rom.. never solved the problem..
but I noticed if you open Total Comander.. you can check My Document folder that soething create a file name.... (I forgot) and it's HUUGE! I deleted it.. and the problem's gone..
But then it after sometime.. it create the file again..
using dutty 1.7 HG and smaberg's latetst and doesn't have that issue anymore.. weird..

Hi, checked now, Cache folder got some big files, like 15MB total, is it safe to delete all of them?
IC_C - 7.25M
PG_IC_C - 5.66M
thumb_caches - 3.13M
Other than that, there are like few thumbnails only, ~1mb total in usage.
--------------------------------
pa49, I have installed only Opera, Swype and maybe ArkSwitch into a phone memory, everything else is in card. I haven't tried hard reset or soft reset.
I have bought my phone from clove.co.uk without a contract, I believe it's not a T-Mobile version.
Could it be because of the start menu icons deletion? I have deleted HTC People, etc from there and those icons reappeared (but without an icon), so maybe HTC generates some kind of error whenever I open start menu? Is there any error_log location in HTC?
--------------------------------
zelduy, I have tried dutty but deleted it after few mins or so, haven't found any files larger than few KBs in my docs folder.
--------------------------------
P.S. Is there any way to access phone memory via PC? As when I connect USB, can only access memory card and not phone itself.
P.P.S. Is it possible to delete default sounds, as when I right click on such files, delete option is grayed out.
P.P.P.S Is there any disk space management software on WinMo which shows what files/folders consumes the most of disk space?
Thanks for all your help, guys!

My laptop file manager shows the phone in the file tree and allows access to both storage card and internal storage. It just sees them as a drive. Even without WMDC running.
It's showing my installed app data, HTC cache as 1.75MB and 292 MB of free space.
i delete everything in the HTC ALBUM folder , its just temp files that appear to be created when using the album , any files that are needed get remade so its a quick way of saving some space
I have 2 hd2 phones, 1 has original - never flashed rom, the other I've flashed many times.
When I ran into this free space issue, I found that my phone showed only 190mb for the total size of the storage drive, the other, untouched phone showed 690mb total size.
Even after flashing many different roms, the storage drive on the rom I've been flashing was 190mb total size.
No free space of course.
So, what can resize the storage drive? any idea how this can be fixed?
What size do you see for total mb on the storage drive?
Maybe GoogleMaps Cachefile ?
You'll find it in \appdata.
Unless you install the app onto your storagecard, it'll spam your phone mainmemory...

How to delete ROM files in Windows folder

Hi.
I have searched for this issue, but haven't been able to find any answer to it.
I am running low on space on the phones main storage, and I discovered that there are several albums sample pictures which takes up a lot of space and I don't use CoPilot and the exe file takes up about 6MB. I tried to delete them but couldn't.
I have done step 67 in hints, tips and tweaks thread, and I install most of my apps on the storage card, but I am still running low on space.
So my question is: is it possible to delete some of the albums sample and CoPilot.exe?
Thanks
Copilot.exe is burned in the ROM, so the answer is no.
But I don't think that is the problem, as well as the sample pictures.
Try this instead:

Thanks for the help but, that thread didn't help me.
I don't get any error when I try to install an app. I just noticed that I don't have much space left on the phone's memory.
It seems that although I install most of my apps on the storage card, some files are still copied to the phones memory. And trying to cleanup the space on the phones memory I noticed some files that I don't use (e.g. CoPilot.exe and all the Albums sample images, total about 17 MB!). I just cannot delete them, since they are part of the ROM. So I was just wondering if someone had succeeded in deleting them. Has anyone succeeded in deleting those files?
By the way, I have done steps 65 and 67 in the tips & tweaks thread.
try cleaning your internet browser history
there's no point deleting files in rom because they are not consuming ram anyway... because they are in rom! So even if you could delete them, it wouldn't help.
deleting the googlemaps cache and the htc album cache will free up device ram.
you can also move your opera cache files to the storage card. If you use the MS facebook app, the thumbnail images located in \Temp\fbimagecache can also be moved to the storage card and i'm pretty sure the HTC generated facebook thumbs can be moved there as well. But you'll need to delve into the registry to do it
The \windows\rings folder can also be moved to storage card

that's not relevant, he's looking to free more space from the internal storage memory, not the ram...
And alas, you cannot remove files that are in the rom... that's why you'd be better off finding a custom rom suited to your needs without all the apps that you don't really need.
Best I've seen is ~250MB free after flash with sense, or about 30MB more without sense

Yes, exactly.
Anyway, thanks for the help. I'll take a look at the custom ROMs.
Its a HTC Touch but for this simple Question don't want to open a new Thread in the Touch Forum:
My Girlfriends HTC Touch P3450 (with this 6.5.3 ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=636589) is running out of space.
(even with Original 6.1 ROM the little Space was a big Problem)
All Apps but Windows Marketplace and My Phone are installed on Micro SD.
Office Mobile 2010 needs less Space than the "old" Office Mobile so i upgradet
Ist there a Way to delete the sample Pictures, Sounds/Ringtones and other (unused) Files?
No success with Windows 7 or RESCO File Explorer.
I remember that it was possible with original Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM on P3450 and T7272 but with 6.5.3 it isn't.
Thanks
(and sorry for my poor english)

Memory problems on HTC HD2

I bought the Telstra version of HTC HD2 and flashed the ROM to version 1.66 with Arabic support. What I have started noticing is that after installing several programs, my storage memory started running very low (now down to anywhere between 3-6MB while my free program memory is >160MB) even though I have setup my Windows Marketplace to install programs on the storage card, temp and cache files are as well as Email attachments are stored on the SD card and actually more than 80% of my program are installed on the SD card but I believe even when you tell a program to install on the SD card, portion of it has to install in the main memory.
My question is what to do about this situation (BTW, I have tried apps that clear the RAM and they work temporarily and, obviously, as I use my device the memory goes down and then I have to re-run that program to clear the RAM again). Is there a way to change the memory allocation between storage and program RAM like we used to do in Windows CE?
Please advise?
