[Q] Data connection drops - Touch HD General

Hi
I noticed that suddenly my data connection drops from no apparaent reason.
Before it used to be on like forever (I remember not turning it off and after I checked the stauts it showed more than 70 hours of connected to data).
Till now I was using Duttys HG 2.1 (I was using this one from november - best ROM ever!!!) but suddenly this data connection problem (and also when I picked up a call there was silence for few seconds) occured. It started showing up the Cannot dial error or something similiar - sometimes data connected, sometimes not.
I have flashed a new ROM because of this (Mia Innovation III - seems fine, but I will go back to Dutty most likely) and the problem remains. The data connections can connect with no problmes, but then after quitting opera, or udpating weather or whaetever - it just drops.
And it annoys me because it stayed on forever before.
Can someone please help me? I have no clue what could cause this. Did I damage my settings somehow, or my antenna?
Thank you.
PS: I am on Radio 1.17 if it helps somehow.
PS2: I will try to flash another ROM today and see if it's still messed up.

Phone Off on Power On, outgoing call problems, etc.

I am using the latest HTC ROM in the UK with Radio v. 1.03.03.10. When I restart the unit in the morning after switching the power off overnight the phone is off enough times to be a nuisance if I do not notice it. Occasionally it switches into flight mode when the unit is on as well, but this seems to be happening less frequently. I also sometimes have difficulty making outgoing calls, ie the call ends before even getting connected, and redialling will not work until I switch the phone off and back on again. Is anyone else having these problems? Is this an issue with the radio ROM? I have read about the difficulties with the latest Radio ROM upgrades on the forum, and if a Radio ROM upgrade would solve the problem I would appreciate some advice on the best one to go with for use primarily in Europe, with occasional travel to the US and Japan.
Hi, Sorry to hear about your issues, I and a couple others here have or had the problem with the phone being off/flightmode after turning it off, then back on.
Theres a another post about this somewhere..I was just too lazy to find it before I posted, and last I checked a true fix hadn't been found.
If I am correct it shouldn't occur if you only do a softreset, and if you look at your signal bars when you shut it off, it looks like it turns the phone/radio off during the shutdown process...that is normal I'm pretty sure, cause even when it worked correctly it still shut the phone off before a power off, I think the issue is related to the startup process and it isn't correctly turning it back on.
I have had it work fine for the longest, and then when I installed some software it quit, after the fresh installation of software it has worked again, also I notice if I power off the phone while its charging and then power it back on, it always works correctly.
I haven't had any actual incall/call issues myself I can't say if a Radio upgrade would help with that, but I don't suspect a radio only upgrade would help with the flight mode being on after a power down, but I am far from being positive, I think its installed software/ROM related, sorry I can't be of some real help, I'm dealing with it myself..its aggrivating to me, I have forgotten to turn flightmode off and missed calls for half a day untill I looked and noticed.
Start the improvement way by upgrading the Radio ROM
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtractedRadioRoms
Here you can find the 1.20 ROM, extracted from JASJAM ROM. Try to install it on your device.
Tell me about this.
Thanks for the feedback and the suggestions. Most helpful.
yes - i get that too - constantly (on a t-mob vario) - i get bumped off the network at least 5-10 times a day and it takes me anywhere between and 10 minutes to get back on. i also get bumped off systematically every night (i am always off when i get up).
calls too are a disaster - an average, it takes me 3 or 4 tries to complete a call when i have full network. (sometimes as much as 10-15 tries)
took my sim and put it into a magician and all went away, so *suppose* it could be a 3g thing, but i am really not convinced because the hermes does have a 2g radio as well (so it should fall back onto 2g whenever 3g fails...)
Not a Fix but a Working Solution
I started having the issue of the radio being off on startup a few weeks ago.
So I invested($10) in a copy of SK Softwares Scheduling Manager SKScheMa.
http://s-k-tools.com/index.html?skschema/m_skschema.html
This has a powerful scripting language and one of the script commands is "GPRS on"
I created a shortcut in the startup folder to a GPRS On script. and since then I have had no more problems.
i´ve the some problem, what do you do for no more problems ?¿?¿
thanks
Thanks for this. I will give it a try. Do you know by any chance if this also provides a way to have the phone ring through the speaker when it is connected to a Bluetooth headset?
>Thanks for this. I will give it a try. Do you know by any chance if this also provides a way to have the phone ring through the speaker when it is connected to a Bluetooth headset?<
If you are refering to SKSchema, then this should be possible. You can create a script that runs when a call is received.
The script can then instruct the phone to play a sound file.
We turned off the UMTS service and reverted back to GSM and that seems to have solved the issue.
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
J.
Just a slight update to maybe help find the cause, I had created a backup with spb before the problem occurred (minus pim data and emails not sure if it mattered) and after having the problem arise again and a few other issues, I decided to hard reset and try out the backup I made.
After installing my backup the problem was gone, and then I got bored the other day and installed some software, and I think removed some, and I had it happen once again after I had ran memmaid 1.72 and rebooted.
I don't know if it the software installaions that are causing it..but one thing that has been a constant is the memmaid, and it could even be my fault.
Is anyone having this happen to a basically oem device?

Well, I can't exacly tell why but I get the same feeling about extra software.
After a hardreset or ROM upgrate (now Cing 1.34/radio 1.16) everything's fine. I deactivate ActiveSync and install some extra software (PocketZenPhone, Total Commander, Regedit, TomTom). After a few days still everything's fine. So I install some other software (SPB PocketPlus, Jetware, a today- and phoneskin) and still everything's fine for a few days. But then on a (not so) fine day: it hangs! The phone doesn't react or TomTom is hanging on the startup screen or the whole device is freezing. Why? I don't know, softreset and everythings fine for a few days.
I notices a few situations while it happened: first when I connected the carpower adapter and second a few times while receiving a phonecall (in my carkit and on poweroff).
Uninstalling everything doesn't seem to do the trick: it still hangs now and then. Also I dont have the patience to hardreset and use my device clean, without extra programs for a few weeks. But I guess in that case everything would be ok (?). But a device without the extra's has no use to me...
My feeling is that the installing the extra's causes a instability in the registry or elsewhere. I also have the feeling that the hardware causes certain instability: the gliding keyboard, the screen (alignmentproblems), the buttons, the SD-card, the network cards, bluetooth... (I had my device in repair with HCT because of the too easy gliding keyboard, the stylus, and the instability with TomTom, but those problems are solverd for now, exept for TomTom). So much hardware, so much software, all in one small device...
A small addition to my previous post: I think another possible cause for instability are the famous memoryleaks. Starting and stopping programs in my opinion never clears the whole memory, in spite of "real" programstoppers like SPB PocketPlus. After working a few days this could cause a freeze (?)

[PROBLEM] Suddenly no signal & no working connections

Hi,
I have a problem with my Diamond.
I use my phone nearly without switching it off. About every 5 days my device loses his signal and stops every connection. Unfortunately not with showing me.
It still shows signal strength and connected status of HSDPA, but there is no connection anymore. If I'm called they are connected directly to my mailbox. I no longer recieve SMS and I'm no longer online. I can only notice this problem, because I cannot send an email or sms, cannot make a call or surf the web.
Strangely the fault is gone, when switching flight mode on, then switching phone back on (with PIN).
Anybody an idea on how to fix this. Did this happen for someone.
May I try a radio upgrade?
Please answer asap.

On the german forum called "HTC Developers" I found a thread similar to my problem.
A lot of people had the same issue and it was often mentioned together with cleanRAM. Some noticed that the problem first happened after installing the app. But nobody could really reproduce the problem.
I will try to reproduce it by only uninstalling cleanRAM.
If the problem persists; cleanRAM is not the problem!
Any other ideas?
I have / had exactly the same problem with my Touch Cruise. (polaris).
I think it has to do whit browsing internet.
The first week I had received a boardswap from HTC, ofcourse still the problem.
Occured last month when I was using lots of wifi I noticed.
Now I upgrade my radio, in the hope it is fixed.
Maybe you can try another radio version to.

I'm not using wifi connections. I already thought of upgrading my radio, but that is the last thing I want to do.
Just for my knowledge: are you using cleanRAM, too?
I'm already in discussion with ronenpg. Until now he says that cleanRAM can't be the problem, but perhaps it's a process I'm killing while cleaning.
i used shipped wm 6.1 from htc touch cruise.
only installed opera beta.. which i thought was the problem.
upgrading radio isnt that big of a hassle.
ronenpg told me that cleanRAM can't be the problem. It only handles software not the hardware.
But as a hard reset is my last way I will wait and see what happens.
So far:
2 days without losing connection after uninstalling cleanRAM!
Work Around
Turn on airplane mod and then back to phone

Yep This is exactly the only thing to get the phone back working.
But only until every connection "freezes"!
So far:
Did not happen again after uninstalling cleanRAM.
edit:
Too bad. It just happened over night. So it definitly can't be a cleanRAM issue. What can I do next?
Radio update?
Where can I get one from?
Does a radio update delete all the system data similar to a hard reset/ROM update?
It will sound weird, but may Opera Mobile 10 cause that problem?
After upgrading to the latest release b3, the issue seems to be solved!
Let's wait and see.

Data connection issue

I'm having trouble with my data connection as it keeps turning off. One minute, I'll be sitting there with H/3G and the next I look up and my connection is gone. I'll have to go into the Comm Manager and turn it back on. Also, when I reboot the phone, I always have to turn the data connection back on. I don't think I have any 3rd party apps that would be causing this.
Anyone have a clue what might be causing this? Oh, I'm running Elegancia if that matters.
Thanks in advance!!!
I just installed the Kumar ROM and am having the same problem....
1 - Phone will show an "H" for the data but no connection
2 - Can't turn off wi-fi
Hosed..
edit - after a few hard boots it appears I am connecting to the internet for now!
my phone is stock and does this also. very annoying.
Bumping. i have the same problem. is this has something to do with "power save on" option in B&B tweakes or "disconnect after 30seconds inactivity"?
any thoughts?
I was having this issue with the stock TmoUS rom so I decided to finally face the fact that I would have to HSPL and go with another rom (Kumar)
...and its still happening
I notice that it only happens at home when I am connected to my wifi network...my phone will show either an H or an E one moment...then I look again and only have the (Y) antenna signal. It will not restore itself for nothing when this happens, I have to open the Comm manager and toggle the data back on.
When im not at home and have the wifi toggled off and running on pure tmobile data service, I have no issues with losing it...
Mine was doing that but after a few hard resets, it no longer does...
I'm on the bus right now and something similar just happened ,while browsing this site a screen just popped up saying data connection error, check settings and if the problem persists reboot your phone. when i went into comm manager data connection was off andwhen i try to turn it on it gives me the same message so i reboot and so far its working good
this problem is now happening all the time for me,anytime im on the internet, marketplace, wallpaper app etc... the data connection drops and i have to go into the comm manager and turn it on. does anybody have suggestions on how to fix this,im on the stock rom and dont feel like changing it yet.
If you're in the United States there is a known problem with the HD2 and the T-Mobile network. I called T-Mobile last week complaining about my bizzare data connections problem and the chic said it is a known issue. She then knocked the cost of my data plan off my bill and apologized for the inconvenience, sadly she couldnt tell me when the issue was going to be corrected. I've switched back to my G1 and haven't had a network issue since.

[Q] 3G/ data connection turns off spontaneously

I have a very annoying problem:
For some reason the data connection on my Legend turns off spontaneaously. Only way to turn it on again is by turning on/off flightmode or data connection.
Because of this I'm missing out on emails, facebook updates and whatsapp messages. Very, very annoying.
It should just work in my opinion -i.e. have a stable, permanent data connection . Btw, I have tried with my sim in another phone and then the connection is stable. So I am sure it is hardware/software related.
Anyone? Thanks!
I get the same issue if I'm out of range for extended periods of time. Almost as if the Legend forgets to search for signal again. A reboot fixes it in the short term
3G/ data connection turns off spontaneously
I have a same issue on my Legend, hoping that someone will come up with a fix...!
I also had this issues with CM-6.1 after 3 month without any problems.
Today i updated to CM-7.0-RC4 and the problem is gone and hopefully don't come back (Was gone before i updated the radio)
anyone has some useful idea in this topic? i am also ccping with this problem. syncing worked for 4 months and but since then it just disconnect from mobile data network and i have to force it to connect again. I have stock 2.2 rom anyway.
have any of you tried factory reset to solve this problem? it is a bug, i think and man, we sometimes miss important things.
