Of all the rotation features why do they disable it in mms? Every picture I have forces me to view in landscape mode. Pictures originally taken in landscape mode come out fine and the portrait seem to be on the small size. Is there any regedit or "hack" to fix this?
Save the file(s) and view in the Photos and Videos tab?
Tis what I do.
That is absolutely obnoxious... plus the pictures come in small for as large as the screen is.

i don't quite know what you are referring to as obnoxious, I don't exactly see people bending over backward to help you, and as I said that is what I do.
Rotate Screen might work, I don't know I don't have any MMS's since I last hard reset.
Search the forums for MMS fix.
It'll fix the small picture size real well.

Tried all the fixes and they either remain the current size or smaller. I looked at our demo HD2's and all my buddy's HD2's and they are all the same. If the picture was originally taken in landscape mode it is considerable larger than one taken in portrait. Maybe I'm being just too picky I figured a MMS would come in full screen but that isn't anywhere near the case.

I appreciate the input... I mean having to save the picture to get it to rotate is the obnoxious part. Do all MMS pictures play as a slide show? What happened to the old days where someone sent you a picture and it just displayed no fancy slide show. I feel the slide show time indicator as well as the play and pause is what is causing the issues... it takes up like 1/4 of the screen if not more
I have this problem as well, and I don't think it's the same as what the others have posted about small mms sizes. I have tried enabling rotation for messages and albums app using BSB Tweaks, but it's a no go. Also, is anybody else having the same problem as me where an image mms file will play as a 10 second video clip when opening from messages?
EDIT: jvcjbl I think I am experiencing the same problem as you where it plays as a 10 second slide show. No clue how to fix this.

Hi All,
Are there any cameras around that will allow you to zoom. It does not look like the stock one has that ability. Same thing for video.
Also, anyone have a good way to clean this damn screen? Its a real fingerprint magnet! LOL

Hey mobi, I think it's something that just has to be switched on, because on my stock ROM I have zoom on both the camera and the video camera. It's not great, but it's there, it appears when you hit the little slider icon right under the shutter button.
It's possible that I have it available (where you don't) because I've activated all the "extra" camera and video modes with BsB Tweaks, and I guess the zoom is apparently one of them. I thought it was there all along, but if you don't see it on your stock ROM, then that's probably how you can turn it on
Thanks for the info. I do have it I guess I just needed to look harder. Seems like there are a lot of hidden things on here.
I was looking through the manual on the HTC site the other day and even some of the settings that they were talking about were not on there.
An example would be the conference call feature, the landscape mode (which I've somewhat fixed with the landscape cab except even in landscape I have to flick up and down and not left to right on images, etc) and a few others.
Oh well, it’s a learning experience. Just wish they'd enable everything and let us decide what to leave on or turn off.

However, there's probably exactly the same number of people here who would say, "Just wish they would disable everything and let us decide what to turn on or leave off" LOL

Pictures taken in PORTRAIT (with just holding the phone straight up) do not save EXIF data correctly, and are shared as LANDSCAPE when "Shared" to Messaging, Gmail, etc. This is ****ing embarrassing.
You can try out Camera 360. I love that app and use it as my default photo app, I have the paid version. It might resolve your issue. Since I have not gotten my phone yet I cannot test to see if it works.
Link to free version.

You sure it's not just your web browser, or Gmail? I haven't checked in a while, but Exif rotational data was rarely used in browsers in recent history. Try opening your photo using the new version of Picasa to see if it's rotated correctly.
No, it is still screwed up. Take a picture in portrait. Then click "Share" to Messaging, Gmail, Facebook, whatever. It will preview as a sideways (landscape) photo, thus looking stupid.
It does preview that way, have you confirmed it sends that way?
Picture related, my panorama shots do not work, I get panorama failed pop up

Yes, I've confirmed that it "shares" that way to Messaging, Gmail and Picasa, and of course Facebook.
Interestingly enough, the original Droid has this problem. It doesn't seem to bother anyone. This is a huge bummer. No idea how to fix this.
Also after taking a photo, and previewing it, the whole screen orientation is in Landscape, no matter what you do. Keyboard open, keyboard closed - all the same. That's frustrating as well. Anyone got any ideas or insight?
Try using a photo editor such as PicSay and rotating the picture into landscape. Then maybe when you send it, it will send the right way
That definitelyorks, although I prefer Photoshop Express. But that is an honest unecessary hassle.

Bugs the hell out of me.
As far as I can tell there is no portrait mode on the Epic - that's why all of the controls are locked to landscape mode and rotating the phone doesn't do shiz.
I really hope they fix this.

Yeah, I noticed that too. The EVO 4G used to be like that, but in the Froyo 2.2 update they made it so the controls will auto-orientate to portrait mode. But, when you used to take photos pre-Froyo, they would always rotate correctly.
I've been rotating my photos in Photoshop Express but holy **** it compresses the hell out of them, making them go from 1MB~ to almost 30kB. Anyone have any ideas?

Maybe our Froyo update will fix the whole shebang. I really hope that Samsung didn't just frak me over with a crippled crappy phone that doesn't get bug fixes like they did with my Intrepid (the bastard child of Windows Mobile and Samsung) - Galaxy S is their flagship and they need to get on top of stuff.
I am not getting this issue. Can you give me the steps to duplicate it?
I pressed the camera button.
I took a portait picture.
I went into gallery.
I shared with both Picasa and emailed via gmail to myself.
In both it was displayed as Portait.
I noticed this last night. It's extremely annoying. Have to go on photoshop express as well.

This could be a usage pattern thing. I detailed how I did it, and it works fine. What are you guys doing differently? If needed I can make a video showing that it works for me.

I am doing the exact same thing as what you're doing, and still getting pictures showing up as landscape, when they were taken with the phone held straight up.
Do you notice after you take a picture and click the PLAY button from the camera UI, the whole "preview" mode is in landscape?

No, in preview they are also correctly in Landscape. Perhaps you need to have the phone in portrait when you start the camera application?
Even while the camera app is loaded I took one picture in Landscape, then Portrait. Both displayed correctly in preview and after emailing.
I can feel your frustration though, that would be lame if it didn't do that. I will make a video tonight, not sure if it will help, but it might give you hope. As a last resort maybe you should try a hard reset back to defaults? I hate to recommend that, but it might work. Seeing as mine works and I have not tweaked anything camera related.
p.s. This might not be related, but I did not get the OTA patch after starting my phone, my GF's epic did. So my phone shipped already patched. I will test her camera tonight as well.
Settings > About Phone > Hardware Version = D700.0.5
my phone does the same thing and it annoys me A LOT
I have tried the Vibrant, Galaxy S, and Captivate camera software, none of which seem to work correctly when trying to send a picture or upload a picture I took in portrait mode, the picture always comes out sideways. Its odd because in the gallery, it shows the picture in portrait mode but as soon as I try to send it, it turns the picture sideways. Dont have this issue on my old iphone 3gs nor my G2. Strange thing is, the pics I uploaded from iphone onto my Vibrant, it correctly orients those if i try to upload them or send them. Looks like there is some sort of breakdown of communication between the camera software and the "share" portion. I find this pretty annoying as its such a small simple thing that should be fixed. Anyone got any ideas what to do? Is there a program to modify orientation so i can fix it before uploading or sending? Although the pics show up in the correct orientation in the gallery so not sure if that would help?
So nothing?

I agree with the OP and have always experienced the same issue. The suggestion that you rotate the pic before uploading is completely ridiculous. The reason we have the "share" function built into the gallery is to make things fast and convenient. Having to edit/rotate defeats the purpose.

even when the pics are taken within the facebook app, this still happens, so it might not just be a share issue from within the gallery.

I've always had this problem too
Don't you think you are doing it wrong op?
you are supposed to take pictures in landscape mode.. not in portrait, the default is landscape even though it will let you take pics on portrt.. so best solution is to take pictures in landscape... is that too hard to do?
Even if you take a picture with the phone upside down.. your screen will always show you the upright view of the image so that you won't have to twist your head around while taking pictures side ways or upside down... gyroscope is it? But it will be saved on your gallery in the way you took the picture in...

but what if it's not a landscape-type picture, which is the issue here.. pics should be able to be taken, saved and uploaded in both landscape and portrait, or frikin sideways or upside-down if the user so chooses.

Umm you mean a vertical type picture? I think the landscape mode itself is the portrait aswell.. I tried taking a picture in landscape then sent it to myself as mms... i got the picture in the upright position.. then i took another picture in portrait.. i got the picture side ways.. although the image in camera was in upright position during portrait, the pic was still side way because ovbiously the phone was in side way position..
When the camera comes up, its set to landscape, even if you hold the phone normally for a portrait shot, the screen orientation doesn't change. No matter how we tried to take this picture, no matter what it looked like in the gallery, when it uploaded or sent, it was in landscape.
The camera doesn't work like it does on other Androids.

I am having a gallery issue where I select a picture and and different picture loads. Sometimes from the same album or different album. Shutting down sometimes resolves the issue or a soft reset and sometimes it does not. Sometimes I have to go into USB mode and add or delete a picture for ot to work properly again. One time the images in my download album al appeared blurry. I downloaded a picture from my email and then they all appeared normal again. Anyone else have this gallery bug?

Another one of those mind boggling simple bugs in Gingerbread/Nexus S.
Yes, I've seen similar, in that if I take a picture, it often won't show in the gallery unless I open it via a file explorer app from the sdcard.
I haven't tried forcing a media scan manually (there are apps for that), to see if that addresses it.
The Nexus S feels much more like a BETA product (software wise) than I recall the Nexus 1 feeling.

I had this exact same problem. You have to delete all of the thumbnails for your photos so that they reload. The only thing is, the thumbnails are no longer stored in the DCIM folder like they were pre-Gingerbread. Unfortunately, I don't remember exactly where they're stored - I used root explorer to find them and delete them.
/Android/data/
You will see a folder called 'com.cooliris.media' delete it. The gallery app will regenerate your album thumbs.

I mean wth do we have to go through all that to see our pics... they took forever to fix the text issue they said they have a fix for which we haven't received. The fix for blurry mms is fixed thank god. Now this? Yeah the N1 did feel like a better product but the updates helped that one too. These are stupid things that shouldn't be an issue though.

This issue happens on and off; it's quite absurd. My pictures are once again not opening to the correct photos. As I've said before, it's stuff like this (among a slew of other issues and glitches) which make Gingerbread, and to some degree Android, feel like a second rate experience.
Has anyone also experienced that sometimes pictures aren't clear in the gallery? Often, the picture will come up unclear, but after a second, will be clear as it's meant to be. But sometimes the clarity doesn't happen.
Does it have anything to do with the internal memory or something again (similar to the random ringtone change issue)?
Is this yet another glitch of Android?
Edit: I should mention this is not the MMS issue which is often mentioned. I'm talking about regular photos that are taken with the Camera. Those sometimes don't clear up either.
Yeah, I get this too.
I wait until all the pics are done downloading from the SD card... then I pick the picture.

It happens to me randomly even long after the SD card has loaded.
Why is the gallery reader like this anyway, where it is blurry at first, then clear?
Promise you its not androids fault. You will never EVER have a phone with HTC SENSE do that.

The low res fade into higher res gallery quirk is more of a feature and is how the gallery always has shown photos even back on the nexus one. It allows quick flipping enough photos without having to insanely cache everything in full from the start. It only should take a second to flick over though.
I'm loving the nexus s gallery performance. I'm sorry to hear some aren't as thrilled.
One if the posters spoke about this stuff not happening in htc - that's rubbish, the 3d gallery acts the same there too, only worse, because oh the lack of hyper fast inand. And the htc gallery is rubbish, it struggles to even show thumbnails if you have too many pics. I speak from experience owning the desire hd, which is the most powerful htc phone to date.
The wrong photo issue is completely fixed by clearing the photo cache and then restarting the device. It didn't clear up until the restart, for some reason.
I have some issues with the gallery as well. But I must say that it performs 10X better then it did on my N1, it was sooo slow and laggy on that thing!!!
Get JustPictures! from the market, way better that Gallery3d imo, plus you can access your picasa, flickr, facebook, smugmug, etc pics from there as well.
Android Gallery sucks ... It just sucks. It does not display in high quality, 16 bits instead of 24 bits. You will see terrible color banding on gradient colors.
Google just lied when they told us everything is 32 bits on Android 2.3.
Nah, that's not true.
I hate that because HTC Sense gallery is much better.
Skip that 3D animation transition, it is an image gallery. Without high quality output, that's no good.
JustPictures is the same, it still display terrible color banding.

I'm very happy with the Gallery performance, and as has been said the low res image fading to high res is a feature of the Android gallery, it's always done that on every handset I've owned.
The gallery has it's share of quirks/bug in the NS version of it, but agreed with others, the fading is a design feature, not a bug.
Has anyone encountered the situation wherein even the application images are in your gallery?
Hey all,
I've had my Nexus 4 for about 3 and a half weeks now, and I'm absolutely loving it. However, I seem to be experiencing an issue with PhotoSphere that I haven't seen reported yet.
When I take a PhotoSphere panorama, there is always a hole in the top part of the image which effectively leaves a black area along the top edge of the image (see attachments). I haven't seen this issue on anybody else's photos, so I am curious if I am doing something wrong or if there is a setting I missed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
